-Chapter Fifty-Three-

Skylar breathlessly chuckled at Nami's embarrassment before quietly groaning as she reached up and lightly touched the wound located on her chest.

It hurt.

It hurt like hell, and the amount of blood flowing from it was enough to stain the front of her shirt red. Her smile felt strained the longer she felt the stain grow, sluggishly getting bigger with each passing second...it was mainly luck that the spike that had gone through her chest had been a thin one—not thick like the one that had torn through her shoulder. Despite how dangerous of a place it had struck her, she could only hope that by some miracle the internal damage wasn't as bad as it could have been if the spikes' placements had been reversed.

"Sometimes it summons rain clouds, other times it makes rainfall—it can even produce wind" Nami breathed, picking back up where she had left off on her little speech toward Miss Doublefinger. "But there's one more special technique of the Clima-Tact, and I'm going to unleash it for Vivi's sake" she leered, biting back a whimper when a jolt of pain suddenly shot through her bad leg the moment she took a step forward.

"Something a matter?" Miss Doublefinger mockingly grinned upon noticing the pained look on the navigator's face. "Oh dear, it seems that that left leg of yours is pretty injured, so much that I doubt you could run away—Sea Urchin Stinger!" her hair spiked up once more as she rushed the woman. Skylar painfully hissed, body jerking as she winced the second Nami lifted her foot and allowed it to be impaled by one of the assassin's spikes in an attempt to stop the woman in her tracks. Struggling to stand, she used the wall of the building behind her for support...only to quickly kneel back down and wrap her arms around herself.

"Fuck..." she quietly hissed, tightly clutching her shoulder as she curled into a ball. Her chest and shoulder both painfully started to throb, sending jolts of pain throughout her entire body to the point that moving seemed almost impossible. It felt difficult to breathe for a split second the moment she had tried to stand, her heart loudly thumping in her ears as her lungs constricted in agony, causing the wound on her chest to burn something fierce.

"This is nothing" Nami grounded out, doing her best to bite back the sobs that now welled up at the back of her throat. "It doesn't hurt at all—do you have any idea what kind of pain she's been going through?" she asked. "Compared to Vivi, it doesn't matter if I lose a foot or a leg or two or an arm, I don't care" her voice shook as she painfully ripped her foot away from the woman's spike.

"Quite the brave one when she needs to be..." Skylar quietly laughed, a small smile now gracing her lips after hearing what the ginger had said. Though she didn't disagree with her. Compared to Vivi, none of their pain could ever really compare to the suffering she's been having to deal with all alone these past few years—especially not now with her kingdom in peril.

"Now take this—Tornado Tempo!" Nami pointed her weapon right at Miss Doublefinger. Two windup doves on springs popped out of her Clima-Tact, causing the assassin to burst out into laughter that quickly died as soon as it started when the windup doves suddenly started to wrap themselves around her. "What? What? What? What?" the ginger frantically babbled in shock, not quite understanding what was happening.

"What have you done to me?!" Miss Doublefinger screamed along with Nami as she was violently twirled around before finally, she was shot straight through one of the walls of a nearby building—crashing all the way through to the other side.

"Well...that was certainly quite the finishing blow" Skylar grinned, groaning as she leaned back against the building behind her and shifted her weight while Nami dropped to her knees in shock. She snapped out of it quickly though with the shake of her head, loudly gasping as she frantically scrambled over toward the brunette and grabbed hold of her shoulders—doing her best to be mindful of the one that was wounded.

"Are you alright?! Please tell me the wounds aren't that serious that you're going to die if we don't get you medical help right away!" she cried, worriedly examining the disheveled brunette. It didn't take her long to notice just how much bigger the wound on her shoulder was compared to the small hole that went right through her chest, yet both had still bled quite a bit with her shoulder still seemingly weeping a steady stream of crimson.

"Nami, I'm fine" Skylar assured her as she grabbed hold of the ginger's wrists. "But, more importantly, we need to focus on the fact that you took down a bad guy all by yourself" she sweetly smiled, causing the woman to blush a little as she returned the gesture...before suddenly and harshly hitting the brunette on top of the head. "Ow! What was that for?!" she whined.

"For doing something so impulsively stupid like that!" Nami snapped as tears now pricked the corners of her eyes. "She could have killed you in an instant!" she scolded, tightly wrapping her arms around the brunette and pulling her in close to her chest.

"Aw, were you worried about losing me? How sweet" Skylar teasingly cooed, laughing as she quickly held her hands up in a weak attempt to defend herself from the ginger's slaps.

"This is serious! Quick joking around!" she angrily snapped.

-Skylar's P.O.V-

"It worked—I did it, Usopp, Vivi..." Nami gently smiled as she pridefully stared down at her Clima-Tact.

"You sure did" I hummed while curiously poking at the holes in my shoulder and chest before groaning when the back of my head was suddenly struck.

"Quit playing with those or they'll get infected!" Nami scolded.

"Yes, mom" I groaned, giggling as she rolled her eyes before grinning and grabbing my hand, intertwining our fingers together in the process. Clasping a piece of her Clima-Tact between us, she lifted our hands up high as if this was her way of having us claim victory together. When we finally lowered our arms, I gently rested my head against her shoulder and hummed. "I hope Zoro's doing alright..." I quietly mumbled.

"What? Worried about your man?" Nami lightly teased, giggling at my flushed face.

"I already told you, we're just friends—I most certainly do not have a crush on him!" I embarrassingly snapped.

"Sure, could have fooled me" she sarcastically responded before snorting as I buried my blushing face into her shoulder in response.

"Shut up...let's just get your stuff and go..." I grumbled. It took us quite a while to reach Miss Doublefinger's knocked-out body, what with Nami's limp and my blood loss leaving me a bit woozy to the point of stumbling around, but we did eventually find her. Leaning against a nearby wall, I watched as Nami set to work in getting the toy doves off of the woman.

"They finally came off!" she cheered once she finally got the doves and their metal springs free. "Calling it a powerful one-shot attack...I think that's a bit of an understatement..." she sighed before our attention was suddenly drawn toward the sounds of nearby fighting. "The fighting has come this far...right there, just around the corner..." she muttered. "Guess the situation changed—anyways, we better get to the palace" she said.

"Yeah" I nodded. "Hopefully, the others will be there as well..." I quietly muttered as she threw one of my arms around her shoulder and placed hers around my waist so that we were both now supporting one another as we walked.

-Later-

It honestly hadn't taken us that long to run into Zoro, and when we did, Nami was quick to jump at the chance of having him carry her so she wouldn't have to put any more pressure on her bad leg.

"I'm telling you again, my injuries are a whole lot more severe than yours..." Zoro irritably grumbled as we rushed through the crowd of fighting Rebel and Royal soldiers that seemed to pay us no mind.

"Oh, quit your whining and act like a man—my leg is hurt so I can't stand" Nami frowned. "I mean, look at Skylar, she's badly hurt and you don't hear her complaining" she said with the motion of her hand.

"That's because I fear I'll be put in debt to you if I try to argue that I'm the one that needs to be carried..." I muttered with the roll of my eyes.

"What was that?" Nami hummed.

"I said you're right, you should be the one to be carried since your leg is injured—Zoro just needs to suck it up" I sweetly lied.

"Don't side with her!" Zoro snapped. "Your injuries are far more severe than hers as well!"

"Aw, you're worried about me? How cute" I cooed.

"Such a gentleman, looking out for your woman" Nami giggled.

"Shut up!" Zoro and I snapped, our faces now flushed red in embarrassment.

"Ah, I'm going to faint" Nami suddenly whined, the smile on her face easily giving away her lie.

"You are such a liar!" he snapped as I laughed.

"Aw, Vivi, what happened? Are you okay? You look like you've been hurt!" I suddenly heard Sanji ask not that far ahead of us as we now began to near the others who were gathered near the palace like Nami and I had hoped. Nami was surprisingly quick to jump off Zoro's back the moment the group came into view, violently hitting Usopp with her Clima-Tact the second she rushed him.

"Nami, Skylar, and Mr. Bushido" Vivi said the moment she spotted us. "Everyone's alive" she smiled, softly sighing in relief as if a weight had just been lifted from her shoulders.

"Usopp, who asked you to create some useless prop for parties?!" Nami angrily snapped. I giggled, patting Zoro's back as he leaned over and started to pant, seemingly out of breath.

"Oh, come on, you're standing just fine!" he growled when he saw how easily the ginger was standing on her own two feet.

"Nami, Skylar, my loves!" Sanji swooned the second he spotted the two of us.

"Nice to see you as well, Sanji" I smiled with a little wave.

"Well it did have a powerful attack, right, Nami?" Usopp whimpered as he clutched his now aching head.

"Just shut up—I'm going to deal with you later! Vivi" Nami growled at the sharpshooter before quickly turning her attention toward the princess. "What's going on? What's with all this dust flying everywhere?" she asked while motioning towards the wisps of sand that were flying around.

"Explain yourself, idiot! How could you let Nami and Skylar get injured like that?!" Sanji sneered the minute he noticed just how badly wounded we both were. "What happened?!" he growled.

"They're fine, let it go..." Zoro grumbled before casting a sideways glance toward me. "You are sure that you're fine?" he suddenly and lowly asked, brows furrowed in concern as he looked over me once again like he had earlier when we first met back up.

"Yes, I promise you, I'm not going to go down that easily" I hummed with a reassuring smile, patting my chest only to wince. "Bad idea..." I grunted as a jolt of pain shot through my body the moment my palm struck the wound on my chest.

"Better not be lying..." he muttered with a small frown.

"Would I ever lie to you?" I asked, grinning once I saw the look on his face. "Fair enough" I said, hands raised in defeat despite him not having really said anything.

"Listen, Chopper, do me a favor—bury my body out in the wastelands when I'm dead and gone..." Usopp weakly moaned, falling limp as if playing dead would save him from Nami's wrath.

"No, Usopp! Don't die!" the reindeer frantically cried.

"I'm sorry, you guys" Luffy suddenly apologized. "I lost to him once already, this time...this time I'm going to win" he firmly stated, stretching his arms up towards the top of the palace. "The rest is up to you."

"So, get going already" Zoro said.

"You're not going to get anything done just standing around down here" I grinned.

"If you can't beat this guy, then I don't know anybody who can" Usopp nodded.

"I'm going to put an end to this, for good" Luffy huffed, causing some of us to cheer in encouragement.

"Thank you, after everything that's happened, all of you are still with me" Vivi smiled, tears now welling in her eyes.

"Crocodile!" Luffy angrily shouted as he shot himself up the palace wall and out of sight.

"Vivi" I said as soon as the captain left, catching the princess' attention. "Exactly what's going on? Like what's the plan?" I asked, watching as she now got a serious look on her face before she quickly explained to us the current situation.

"Are you serious?!" Usopp cried in shock. "In ten minutes this place is really going to blow up!"
