-Chapter Fifty-Seven-

"What do you think you bastards are doing pointing your guns at Vivi?!" Sanji angrily snapped, still in the middle of following.

"This isn't good—the two of them are sniper team!" Vivi cried out in distress.

"Chopper, I'll throw you guys up anyways" Zoro suddenly said. "It will change the direction, but you need to figure something out" he told them.

"Huh? What do I do?" Chopper worriedly asked.

"We have seven seconds!" Nami shouted up to them.

"Just figure something out!" Usopp cried out.

"There's not much time left to waste—you need to be quick!" I called up to them.

"Chopper, Vivi, are you ready?" Zoro asked as they nodded. "I'm sending you up."

"Ready?" Miss Father's Day asked.

"Aim and fire!" Mr. Seven exclaimed—the two firing their guns just as Zoro threw Chopper and Vivi further up, making sure that they were out of harm's way.

"Our bullets are sure to crash into each other!" Miss Father's Day grinned.

"And they're going to explode!" Mr. Seven laughed.

"What?!" I shouted, eyes widening.

"No!" Nami gasped as the two bullets connected, exploding right as they hit the swordsman.

"What an idiot—he's hit!" Sanji grounded out.

"He's going to be alright? Right?" I worriedly asked, not wanting to think of the worst-case scenario at all.

"Are you ready, Vivi?" Chopper asked, changing into his human form.

"Just throw me with all your strength, Tony!" Vivi ordered as the reindeer threw her further up and toward the two cannoneers.

"It's no use!" Miss Father's Day laughed.

"Adjusting!" Mr. Seven chirped as the two prepared to fire off their guns once again, determined not to miss this time.

"Aim and fire!" they shouted, shooting off their guns just as Chopper finally came into view. "Who's that?" they curiously asked, startled by the reindeer's sudden appearance. Turning small, Chopper dodged their bullets before he finally started to fall back down to the ground.

"Where did Miss Wednesday go?" Miss Father's Day curiously asked.

"Oh, what now?" Mr. Seven frowned.

"Peacock Strings!" Vivi shouted, swinging her weapons around in circles as she fell towards the two.

"Up there!" Mr. Seven gasped.

"Go!" Nami and Usopp cheered as the two cannoneers screamed, quickly backing away in an attempt to dodge the princess' attack. It was at this moment that my ears suddenly perked up to the sound of Sanji roughly hitting the ground.

"Well, princess" Miss Father's Day snickered as she pointed her gun once Vivi landed on the sill of the open clock.

"Looks like you missed us!" Mr. Seven laughed, pointing his gun as well...though their laughter was cut short when the princess lunged forward and harshly pushed the both of them out the clock tower before moving further in and out of our sights.

"Alright!" Usopp cheered. "It stopped...right...?" he hesitantly asked after a bout of tense silence between us as we quietly waited with bated breath.

"Thank goodness..." I couldn't help but sigh in relief the second Zoro hit the ground and loudly began to cough, indicating that he was still alive and breathing. Standing, I moved closer toward him. "You alive?" I smiled once I had reached him, squatting down and leaning right over him as he gave a pained groan.

"Oh hey, you're still alive" Sanji remarked.

"Yeah, what happened with the cannon?" Zoro asked, returning my smile with one of his own before wincing as I lightly flicked his forehead. "What was that for?" he frowned.

"For scaring me, you dingus" I huffed, leaning back as he sat up and rubbed his forehead.

"Hey now, I didn't exactly have any control over the situation" he argued, his smile quickly returning the minute I stuck my tongue out in response. "Quite rude of you to just hit a man who was shot at though" he chuckled, yanking me towards as he wrapped an arm around my waist.

"You'll get over it" I sighed, leaning into his side before my attention was drawn toward Chopper who came rushing towards us after he had finally landed.

"What's the matter?" he worriedly asked when he saw how tense most everyone was.

"Apparently, something's gone wrong up there" Zoro responded.

"It's Vivi, we still haven't seen her" Nami explained.

"I hope everything's going alright up there" I worriedly frowned.

"Oh no, you guys!" Vivi suddenly called out as she finally poked her head out of the clock tower.

"What is it?" Nami called back up to her.

"Tell us what's wrong!" I shouted.

"The cannonball has a timing device—if we don't do something, it's going to explode!" she frantically cried.

"What did you say?!" Usopp screamed in horror as his eyes widened.

"Damn, this isn't right! Stopping the cannoneer should have stopped the attack!" Sanji sneered.

"A timer?" Chopper quietly questioned.

"Of course, he had a backup plan!" I groaned. "How were we so stupid that we didn't even realize he had a backup plan?!"

"Considering its power, even if it explodes from up there, it will still kill all the people in the square and the town" Zoro concluded.

"Then what's going to happen now?" Usopp asked. "Aw crap! Does this mean that it was impossible all along for us to stop the explosion from happening?" he frowned.

"Crocodile!" Vivi angrily screamed, looking just about ready to have a complete breakdown before freezing when we suddenly spotted a rather large bird flying around the tower.

"Wait, was that…" Sanji trailed off as the bird swooped down towards the opening of the clock tower, disappearing inside.

"Yeah, I think it's the bird man" Zoro nodded.

"You mean Pell?" I questioned, remembering the name of the man that Vivi had originally wanted us to wait for. There was an exchange of words between Pell and Vivi that couldn't be heard from where we all stood, but it didn't matter because not long after did he take off—the cannonball now tightly clutched in his talons as he flew off and away from us all. Vivi was loudly and desperately screaming for him, but I couldn't really make out her words as everything around us seemed to almost slow down before the sound of an explosion rang out. An explosion so big that the aftershock was strong enough to destroy any nearby buildings and throw people off their feet—Usopp being one of the few of us that was knocked right over as the rest desperately tried to keep themselves upright. Their arms raised against the forceful winds of the explosion as they dug their feet into the ground and turned their heads away from the blinding light.

"He's gone..." Sanji mumbled once the dust had settled and all was quiet once more.

"He…saved us..." Nami shakily realized.

"He..he gave up his own life to make sure everyone here lived..." I choked, shakily standing as I quickly grasped onto Zoro's arm the second I felt my legs nearly give.

"This can't be happening" Usopp whimpered as he sat up before being taken aback when the Rebel and Royal soldiers also began to stand up, all of them loudly groaning as they tried to gather their bearings and figure out what happened. We watched how they shook their heads before picking back up their weapons, loudly screaming at one another as they went straight back to fighting as if a massive explosion didn't just happen.

"W-what? They were just knocked over by an explosion and they're still wanting to fight?" I sputtered out. 'Had...had he been right...are these people truly not going to stop until these streets run red?' I felt a sense of dread well up within me the moment I thought this, my stomach now churning as I looked at the sneering faces of the people around me.

"Stop fighting! Stop—stop fighting! Please stop!" Vivi suddenly screamed from above. "Please stop fighting! Stop fighting! Stop it please!" she pleaded from atop the clock tower. "Stop fighting—please stop! Stop fighting! Please stop fighting!" we fell silent, none of us really knowing what to say or do as we sadly stared up at her.

"Vivi..." Zoro mumbled.

"Please stop fighting! Stop! Please stop fighting, stop it! Please stop fighting, stop—please stop the fighting! Stop the fighting!" she continued to scream even though it was clear that no one was listening to her as the fighting only continued. Nami started to cry as I roughly wiped at my eyes, my throat now closing up as choked sobs escaped past my trembling lips the longer I heard her beg. "Please stop!"

"You fools...you dopes..." Nami whimpered, angrily hitting Usopp and roughly throwing Sanji to the side. "Why are you just standing there? Get your rears in gear—doesn't matter how, just stop the rebellion!" she cried, pushing Zoro back before grabbing the front of Usopp's bandages and harshly shaking him. "We got to keep the causalities as low as we possibly can!"

"Nami..." I breathed out, taking a step forward and gently resting a hand on her shoulder. She reacted harshly by grabbing my wrist and looking at me with a watery glare. She looked like she wanted to yell. Instead, a choked sob slipped past her slightly parted lips as she suddenly wrapped her arms around me and buried her face into the crook of my neck as she finally broke down crying. Gently, I patted her back, tears now streaming down my face as I started to cry as well.
