-Chapter Fifty-Nine-
"Hey, Vivi!" Chopper brightened.
"Daddy?!" Sanji shouted, his jaw falling slack as he now stared at the man in shock. "What? This guy's Vivi's dad!" he realized.
"Guess that makes you the king" Zoro concluded.
"Be kind of weird if he wasn't" I hummed.
"Yes, and I'd be a dead king if it weren't for the efforts of your brave young friend here" Cobra nodded as sat Luffy up against one of the nearby buildings. "Even though he came into contact with Crocodile's poison hook, he still managed to carry myself and another to safety—unbelievable strength he has" he praised.
"He was poisoned?" I worriedly questioned as I knitted my eyebrows together.
"Should we be worried about the poison? I mean, is he going to be alright?" Usopp asked.
"It's okay, it should be neutralized by now" Cobra assured us. "However, his injuries need to be treated—so do yours as well" he pointed out, motioning toward our banged-up and disheveled selves.
"We'll wait, you need to be somewhere else" Zoro shook his head as he leaned up against one of the nearby buildings before sliding down into a sitting position and closing his eyes. "Go back to the square, Vivi" he waved.
"He's right, Vivi" Usopp nodded. "Now that the war's over, it's only fitting for the king and princess to say a few words, you know—tell them what really happened" he encouraged.
"Yep, it's only fair that they know the truth" I hummed in agreement.
"Right, and I can tell them all about you guys too" the princess nodded.
"Vivi, dear, please don't" Sanji piped up, pulling out a cigarette and lighting it. "We're a band of notorious pirates, the last thing we need is our faces and names known" he reminded her with a smile.
"But what we do need is food" Chopper pointed out.
"Ain't that the truth" I nodded, resting a hand against my stomach as it started to lowly rumble at the mention of food. Ignoring the flaking of dried blood that came off at my touch as I rubbed it.
"And rest" Nami added. "We'd like to crash at the palace if that's okay" she sheepishly smiled as the king nodded in understanding before finally, he lead his daughter back toward the town square where their people now awaited them.
"I'm beat..." I tired sighed the second they were gone, plopping myself right down beside Zoro as I rested my head against his shoulder while the others fell over with groans of agreement—each of them instantly falling into a peaceful slumber as the events of today finally took its toll and sapped them of their strength.
"You alright?" Zoro softly murmured, peaking an eye open as his hand worked its way into mine and intertwined our fingers.
"Too tired to talk...I'll tell you in the morning..." I tiredly muttered, smiling as I heard his soft chuckle before he rested his head atop my own as we closed our eyes and fell right asleep.
-Three Days Later-
"You know, Chopper's going to be mad at you when he finds out" I hummed, lying flat on my stomach as I kicked my legs back and forth behind me.
"Hm" Zoro grunted, his eyes firmly shut as he balanced two large boulders on his arms and continued trying to focus on what he was doing. Clearly paying me very little mind.
"Well, I mean, he'll probably be mad at me as well since I'm letting you do this...and because I also kind of left the room when I should have been resting as well" I sighed, stretching my arms out in front of me as rolled onto my back. Taking a brief moment to enjoy the peaceful morning air as the sun brightly shone down on us from above as I ignored the way his eyebrows twitched the longer I talked. "Why did I even let you drag me out here in the first?" I suddenly whined.
"Skylar..." I heard him lowly mumble.
"I mean, I could be back at the castle sleeping in with the rest of them instead of being out here in the desert sun" I huffed, lips soon twitching upwards when I suddenly heard him lowly grumble something in response. "What was that?" I innocently asked.
"I said, I will drop these boulders and hit you if you don't let me concentrate in peace" Zoro irritably growled.
"You wouldn't" I scoffed with a laugh before flinching when I suddenly heard the sound of the boulders hitting the ground. "W-wait—"
-Later-
"Oh, Luffy, you woke up" Zoro note the moment he walked into our group's shared room in the palace. I followed closely behind him, painfully rubbing the top of my head where he had hit it earlier.
"Good to see that you're finally awake, captain" I grinned before softly glaring at Zoro. "You're so mean for hitting a defenseless woman" I pouted.
"You're anything but defenseless" he snorted. "Also, I warned you that I was going to hit you if you didn't behave, didn't I?" he asked with a raised eyebrow, causing my pout to grow.
"Zoro, Skylar, long time no see—wait a minute..." Luffy frowned in confusion as he silently thought back over what he had just said.
"How dare you! You were out training, weren't you?!" Chopper scolded. "Skylar, why didn't you stop him? More importantly, why were you out there with him as well?!" he asked, clearly frustrated with the two of us.
"I think the bump on my head is enough evidence as to why I didn't stop him—and I had no choice, he used his monstrous strength to drag me off with him!" I quickly defended.
"What are you talking about? You came willingly with me—don't make this seem like I kidnapped you!" Zoro frowned.
"Oh, but you did" I grinned as I dramatically leaned against him, throwing my arm over my eyes. "It was so traumatic, I was practically fearing for my life the entire time" I sighed.
"Liar!" he snapped.
"Long time no see? Why did I say that?" Luffy questioned, scratching his head in confusion.
"Probably because it has been that long—you've been sleeping for three entire days" Usopp explained.
"Three days? Three whole days!" Luffy shockingly exclaimed.
"Uh-huh" Usopp nodded.
"You were in pretty bad shape after your fight with Crocodile, so it's not surprising that you were asleep for that long" I pointed out.
"I've missed fifteen meals!" Luffy suddenly cried in horror.
"You sure calculate quickly when it comes to food" Nami frowned, placing her hands on her hips.
"At his count, that's like five meals a day..." Usopp muttered which caused Vivi to laugh.
"It seems you have your priorities straight, Sora!" I laughed as well before stopping when I realized what I had said. Instantly, my face exploded with color the minute I saw that the others were now staring at me in amusement. "I-I'm so sorry, Luffy! I didn't mean to call you Sora!" I embarrassingly sputtered out in apology, lowering my head in an attempt to avoid eye contact.
"Why are you apologizing? I'm not mad" Luffy grinned as the others giggled, causing my blush to spread.
"I didn't expect you to make such a mistake—are you perhaps missing your brothers?" Nami curiously asked.
"Of course, I'm missing them" I softly sighed. "Doesn't help that the captain here sometimes reminds me of my twin..." I sheepishly confessed, smiling as I rubbed the back of my head the moment I saw Luffy's grin widen as he started to happily laugh as if I had just complimented in by comparing him to someone important to me.
"Oh! You're so adorable when you're embarrassed, Skylar!" Sanji cooed, hearts now floating all around him. "What was that, Moss Head?!" he snapped when Zoro suddenly grumbled something under his breath that the blond just barely caught.
"I heard the captain's awake" a new voice suddenly said as the doors to the room were suddenly thrown open. "Dinner will be served shortly, I hope you're all hungry" a woman similar to Igaram smiled as she pushed a cart filled to the brim with fruit into the room.
"What?" Zoro owlishly blinked.
"Hey, old tube-haired guy, you're still alive!" Luffy brightened.
"Eh?" I tilted my head upon hearing Luffy say this—yes, the woman in front of us did indeed look like Igaram, but there were clearly some differences between her and the man.
"So that cross-dressing thing wasn't just an act?" Zoro questioned.
"No, everyone, you're mistaken" Vivi smiled, shaking her head. "This is Terracotta, she's Igaram's wife and head of the palace's servers" she explained.
"I've heard of wives looking like their husbands, but this is too weird" Zoro sweat dropped.
"Come on now, be nice" I scolded as I lightly elbowed his side, causing him to grunt.
"I heard the captain eats a lot, so I had my staff put together a little snack to tide you and your friends over" Terracotta explained while motioning towards the cart of fruit.
"Thank you" Luffy bowed before devouring the whole cart of fruit in one big bite.
"Greedy pig!" Zoro and Sanji snapped.
"Ah, well that wasn't surprising at all" I chuckled.
"I'm going to eat three whole days' worth of food, old lady" Luffy firmly stated.
"Oh, a challenge? Good, I'm looking forward to it—I've never lost anyone's stomach, so eat to your hearts' content" Terracotta grinned.
By the time dinner came around it quickly devolved into a mess within mere seconds of everyone sitting down. From my spot next to Zoro, I watched how the boys quickly grabbed as much food as they could as if it would all disappear if they weren't quick enough...which it probably would have with Luffy here.
"Geez, I've seen even pigs eat less..." I heard one of the guards mutter in slight disgust.
"And with more manners too, I'm sure—this is the royal dining hall, not a trough" another responded in that same disgruntled manner. I simply ignored the two grumbling to themselves at that point and instead watched as the others ate, eating from my own plate as I did so.
"This smells good" Zoro complimented as he got ready to eat a piece of meat that was quickly snatched away from his grasp before he could really blink. Luffy seemed to be snatching food off everyone's plates and by the time he had reached mine, he quickly drew his hand back the minute he saw me raise my fork and jab it into the dining table, right where his hand had been just a few second's ago.
"Nice try, but I grew up with two brothers—you want to get this food, you either got to be quicker or prepare to have a fork jabbed into your hand" I chuckled, posture a little tense despite the fact I was smiling as a memory suddenly came to mind.
"Cloud! Skylar stabbed me!"
"Did you try stealing her food again?"
"Yes, but—"
"We've discussed this before, Sora. With how hard it is to come by food currently, we all get our fair share, if you want more then you either have to ask or be quicker in stealing it—like this!"
"Hey! That's mine, you jerk!"
"You shouldn't have let your guard down then."
"Skylar, don't side with him!"
"Luffy, you just snatched my food, didn't you?" I was snapped out of my thoughts by Usopp's accusatory voice as the sharpshooter jabbed his butter knife in the direction of the rubber man whose cheeks were currently stuffed full.
"You liar!" Nami snapped when the raven-haired man shook his head, quick in covering his mouth as if trying to hide the evidence. I softly huffed a laugh at the sight, my smile a little melancholic as I thought back to that memory I had...it was almost a game back then whenever we'd try to steal each other's food. Cloud was the one to encourage it, wanting to teach and encourage us to be more selfish and assertive when it came to our food so that we'd never have to risk having it taken from us ever again...
Food was always so hard to come by, it was important we knew how to protect it whenever we got it.
"Hey, you keep eating like that, you're going to choke" Sanji warned when he noticed how Chopper was just hastily shoveling food down his throat.
"There's plenty more" Vivi smiled, trying to assure the reindeer that he had no reason to rush.
"Leave him alone, he's just hungry is all" I smiled, clearly able to relate to what the reindeer was feeling as he ate. I understood that need to shovel the food down your gullet without really stopping to taste or appreciate it...I understood that fear of thinking that it'd be taken from you at any moment or that fear of never knowing when's the next time you'll be able to eat again, so you stuff your face now like a bear getting ready to hibernate for the winter.
"Snatch my food will you, some hot sauce with fix you..." Usopp muttered, practically pouring half a bottle of hot sauce onto a rice ball that was quickly snatched by Luffy and shoved into his mouth. Instantly, the raven-haired man's face turned bright red as fire now shot out of his mouth, causing Usopp and Eyelash to start laughing...
Eh? When did Eyelash get here?
"Serves you right, Luffy!" Zoro laughed. I giggled at the scene before me, only stopping when I suddenly noticed the swordsman's gaze now on me.
"What?" I asked, curiously tilting my head when I saw the soft look in his eyes as he stared. His lips upturned into a small smile.
"You got something right here" he suddenly said, pointing at his face...yet not really, it was more like he was pointing in a general direction. I frowned before pointing at the same area he was on my own face.
"Here?" I questioned as I started feeling around for the speck of food that was on my face, wiping the back of my hand from one side of my mouth to the other while watching as he shook his head.
"Here, let me get it for you..." he muttered after a while of watching me try to guess where he was pointing and swiping my hand all along my lower face. Leaning forward, I shivered a little when I suddenly felt the warmth of his breath fan across my face. I yelped in both startled surprise and embarrassment the second I felt him drag his tongue across the corner of my mouth. "There" he grinned the second he leaned back.
"You could have used your thumb or something! That was unsanitary, sir!" I embarrassingly cried, wiping at the spot he had licked as he laughed. "It's not funny!" I huffed, watching as his grin only grew as he almost seemed to bask in my embarrassment and the way my blush started to spread.
"Eyelash, when did you get here?" Usopp asked in surprise once he finally spotted the camel.
