On Thursday, August 4th, 1994, Sirius had Blinky, Pinky, Inky, and Clyde prepare a breakfast of bacon sandwiches on Texas toast, crispy hash browns. and Jack Daniels.
Sirius knew that bacon sandwiches on Texas toast, crispy hash browns. and Sunny Delightwas Ginny's favorite breakfast and he hoped serving Ginny's favorite breakfast would cheer her up after the disappointment she'd suffered the previous day.
Harry, Hermione, and Ginny came down from their respective rooms and joined Sirius at the breakfast table.
"Something smells good, " grinned Ginny as Blinky, Pinky, Inky, and Clyde brought out the plates and glasses.
"YES!" said Ginny when she saw what was on the plates and glasses, "bacon sandwiches on Texas toast, crispy hash browns. and Sunny Delightis my absolute favorite breakfast!"
"I had Blinky, Pinky, Inky, and Clyde make your favorite breakfast this morning as a way of cheering you up after the disappointment you suffered last night."
"Thank you, Sirius, " said Ginny gratefully.
"That was very thoughtful of you, Sirius, " said Harry proudly.
"It's amazing how simple things can improve a person's mood sometimes, " said Hermione thoughtfully.
As they ate, Harry turned to Sirius and asked, "About the spell "Groundify! Is that spell only for feet?"
"Yes, " confirmed Sirius, "Groundify is for keeping someone in place but it only works on feet. I will be working with you lot today on some other movement inhibiting spells, " Good question though."
After breakfast, with everyone refreshed from having slept very well the previous night and Ginny happy again, Sirius took Harry, Hermione, and Ginny into the living room and set up the dummies and put fake wands with them.
"Now, " said Sirius clearly, "Today I'm going to be teaching you some Offensive Magic that will inhibit your enemy for accessing and using his or her wand."
"We already know how to disarm, " Harry informed Sirius,
"Disarming is the most common way of inhibiting an enemy's access to his or her wand, but it is not the only way. Yesterday I taught you Explodicus, but I'm not the biggest proponent of that spell because of how violent it is. I would only ever use it against the worst of the worst or if I were absolutely desperate. There are ways of preventing an enemy from using his or her wand against you that are both less obvious than disarming and less violent than "Explodicus!"
Harry, Hermione, and Ginny were listening intently with complete focus and concentration.
"I'm going to be teaching you lot three spells to keep your enemies from accessing their wands, " explained Sirius, "The first is a spell to fuse your enemy's wand arm to his or her side. This spell is extremely limited in use because its effects are very short lasting. However, it can useful if you need to temporarily prevent your enemy from using his or her wand in order to make a quick escape. To perform this spell, you simply point your wand at your enemy's wand and say, "Fusicy!"
Sirius, Harry, Hermione, and Ginny all pulled their wands out of their right pockets with their right hands and pointed at the fake wands in their dummies' hands.
"Fusicy!" cried Sirius, Harry, Hermione, and Ginny.
Next nanosecond, all four dummies saw their wand arms stuck to their sides.
However, this effect lasted only thirty seconds and the dummies, and their wands then resumed their previous positions.
"That's why that spell is of only limited use, " said Sirius seriously, "It's duration is noticeably short. It's only for if you need to make a quick getaway. "
Harry, Hermione, and Ginny all nodded in understanding.
"This next spell is a spell that is meant to frustrate and confuse your enemy, " said Sirius in a businesslike voice, "This spell will cause your enemy's wand to hover over his or her head and float in circles. Your enemy will not be able to reach his or her wand while this spell is in effect. To execute this piece of Offensive Magic, you need to point your wand at your enemy's wand but have your eyes looking at your enemy's face. The incantation is "Leviwandous!"
Harry, Hermione, and Ginny pointed their wands at the fake wands in the hands of their dummies and looked the dummies straight in the face.
""Leviwandous!" called out Sirius, Harry, Hermione, and Ginny.
A nanosecond later, the fake wands were floating in circles above the dummies' heads. Sirius's dummy had the slowest moving fake wand by far. His time in Azkaban had weakened his magic somewhat. He could still perform spells, but his magic was clearly outclassed by those he was teaching.
It was impossible to truly tell whether, Harry's dummy, Hermione's dummy, or Ginny's dummy had the fastest moving wand, and this didn't bother Sirius one iota. He was proud and pleased that Harry, Hermione, and Ginny had all executed the spell so well.
"Great work, Harry, Hermione, and Ginny, " said Sirius approvingly.
They waited awhile, none of them were sure how long, for the effects of "Leviwandous!" to wear off of the dummies. When that finally happened, Sirius said clearly, "This next spell is rare. Rare in the sense that very few people know about it. I know about it because James, who was the inventor of the spell, taught it to me,"
"So, we're going to learn a spell my dad invented!" said Harry excitedly.
"Yes, " said Sirius with a smile, "This spell is a nonverbal spell. Nonverbal spells require MUCH more powerful magic than verbal spells. I know I won't be able to do it because of my magic being weakened from spending twelve years in Azkaban. I'd be incredibly surprised if any of you can do it, but I still wish to introduce you to it."
"Okay, " said Harry eagerly, "But what does this spell actually do when it works?"
"It renders your enemy's wand useless while the wand is under its influence, " said Sirius mysteriously, "What you do is you point your wand at your enemy's wand with your eyes also focused very strongly on your enemy's wand. You then think, think but not say, the word, "Demagicify!" to yourself. You must be COMPLETELY locked in for this spell to work. If it does, you and only you will see a small teal dot in the middle of your enemy's wand. The teal dot will remain as long as the effects of the spell are still in progress."
Sirius, Harry, Hermione, and Ginny all pointed their wands at the fake wands in the dummies hands and focused their eyes on the wands.
Their minds concentrating as hard as they could on the task at hand, each of them thought the word "Demagicify!" to themselves.
Sirius, Hermione, and Ginny showed no reaction while Harry shouted "WOW!"
"That teal is damn bright!" said Harry, shielding his eyes with his hands.
"You could actually do it?" said Sirius, sounding a little stunned.
"I did, " said Harry calmly, trying not to boast.
"You just mastered a spell James created, " grinned Sirius, "While your enemy's wand is in that state, any attempt to channel magic through it will be unsuccessful. Please don't tell anyone else you know about this spell, it's best if only a few people know about it."
"We won't, " promised Harry, Hermione, and Ginny.
