On the morning of Friday, August 5th, 1994, Harry went down to the kitchen for breakfast to find that in addition to Sirius, Hermione, and Ginny, Lily was also sitting at the breakfast table.
"Hi, Lily, " greeted Harry cheerfully when he saw her, "It's absolutely wonderful to see my newest friend again this soon."
"You are sweet and kind, Harry Potter, " said Lily happily, "Thanks for the warm welcome. I'm sure you must be curious about why I'm here but it says a lot about you that your reaction to seeing me at the table was not to ask why I'm here but to give me such a warm welcome."
"I'm always happy to see a friend no matter the reason, " beamed Harry.
"Anyway, " said Lily matter of factly, "The reason I'm here is because I'm dropping Divination and replacing it with Ancient Runes. Hermione is going to help me catch up on Ancient Runes as well as help you can up on Ancient Runes."
"That's good to hear, " said Harry approvingly, "Hermione realized early on that Divination is a load of old rubbish and a useless subject. I'm glad I caught on."
"Tracey and Daphne advised me against taking Divination but I thought the subject seemed interesting. I know now how worthless Divination is, " admitted Lily.
"Why don't Daphne and Tracy help you catch up instead of Hermione if they're your best friends?" Ginny asked Lily curiously.
"Neither of them are taking Ancient Runes, " said Lily truthfully, "They are taking Care of Magical Creatures like me, but they chose Muggle Studies for their other elective course. So, they don't know about Ancient Runes, but Hermione does."
"Are you taking Ancient Runes, Ginny?" asked Harry, "You'll be a third year when the next semester starts so you'd be starting your electives, right?"
"Yes, " confirmed Ginny, "I have chosen Care of Magical Creatures and Ancient Runes. "
"If you're just starting Ancient Runes this coming semester, then you don't have catching up to do, do you?"
"I'm still going to join the sessions, " said Ginny determinedly, "I'll have a head start on Ancient Runes before the semester starts."
"Well, " said Harry in a teasing kind of voice, "I expect you to get an O n your Ancient Runes exam next year."
Ginny smiled.
"Since Lily is the newest guest, " explained Sirius, "She gets to choose the meals today!"
"You are sweet and kind, Sirius Black, " beamed Lily, "For breakfast let's do sausage, bacon, and ham burritos with Sunny Delight to wash it down with."
So, Pinky, Blinky, Inky, and Clyde made them a breakfast of sausage, bacon, and ham burritos and brought them Sunny Delights.
As Sirius, Harry, Hermione, Ginny, and Lily chowed down on their burritos and sipped away on their Sunny Delights, Lily asked Hermione, "Do you have a strong interest in Ancient Runes?"
:"Yes, " admitted Hermione, "But I offered to help Harry catch up on Ancients Runes because I knew he was serious about wanting to change his elective and felt like I could help."
"You are sweet and kind, Hermione Granger, " beamed Lily.
"Turning to Harry, Lily asked, "What is Sirius Black like as a guardian?"
"If my mom and dad were alive today, they would be very proud of the godfather Sirius has been to me, " answered Harry as Sirius shed a few tears of emotion, "He's looked after me in every possible, looking, after my health, providing for me, loving me, etc. I have no complaints. Sirius is a pretty permissive guardian. As long as I stay away from the vices of sexuality and sex, Sirius is happy to be a pretty permissive guardian. "
"Are you looking forward to learning Ancient Runes Harry?" asked Lily eagerly.
"Very much so, " said Harry excitedly.
"Where are we doing it?" piped up Ginny.
"The living room, " said Hermione clearly, "It's big enough to seat all of us and Sirius doesn't want the kitchen table used for anything other than eating."
Sirius, Harry, Hermione, Ginny, and Lily went into the living room and sat down at the table in question. There was a whiteboard, black marker, and eraser siting on the table.
"So, " smiled Hermione, "Let's go down to the basics of Ancient Runes!"
