-Chapter Seventy-Eight-
"Usopp, no!" Luffy gasped.
"Help me!" the sharpshooter cried, visibly shaking as he and the Marines finally came to a halt once they reached the shore. Drawing their sword, a Marine pressed the blade right against the pirate's neck.
"No one move, not even one little twitch or the big nose gets it!" he threatened.
"So, they already had a landing party in place waiting for us, did they?" Zoro growled, lowering his weapons and semi-relaxing his posture so that the Marine wouldn't get the wrong idea and carry out his threat.
"What nasty people..." I bitterly grumbled, a bitter taste now filling my mouth at the realization that none of this had anything to do with upholding justice and instead was simply because of some treasure.
"Excellent work, Corporal, nice timing" Minchey praised.
"Drop your weapons now or else!" the Marine Corporal ordered.
"Usopp" Nami whimpered as Zoro and I dropped our swords, the only ones out of the seven of us that actually had visible weapons on our person that the men could see.
"Dammit!" Zoro angrily cursed.
"Fuck!" I quietly hissed.
"Forget me and make a break for it! These guys are planning to kill us no matter what happens, so run!" Usopp cried out.
"Keep your mouth shut, big nose!" the Marine Corporal growled as he pressed the blade harder against the sharpshooter's throat until he was almost drawing blood.
"You…rotten coward!" Luffy sneered.
"We did what you said, so don't hurt him!" I snapped.
"Now that we captured all of you, we don't even have to wait for the captain to land—men take aim!" Minchey ordered as three of his men now aimed their guns at us. I jolted a little when I suddenly felt Zoro grab my hand and pull me behind him, growling a little as he now protectively stood in front of me.
"It figures..." Sanji grumbled.
"You rotten creeps!" Chopper cried out.
"Big deal, I can handle bullets" Luffy huffed.
"That's great..." Nami weakly said as she took a fearful step back.
"But, unlike you, we're not made of rubber" I said as the Marine Sergeant laughed.
"I get the treasure of Zenny the Moneylender, the heads of the Straw Hat Pirates, and all the credit after I send you to hell!" Minchey grinned, giving his men the signal to fire. But before any of them could pull the trigger, the ground started to rumble, causing our heads to immediately turn.
"Is that...?" I muttered, taken aback along with the rest to see Zenny's pirate ship come flying down the mountain.
"No, impossible! A pirate ship sailing down a mountain?!" Minchey gasped.
"Goat man!" Luffy happily shouted the second he saw the old man at the wheel of the ship.
"How's tricks with you?" Zenny brightly smiled, holding up a peace sign as the Marines and Usopp quickly scrambled to jump out of the way of the pirate ship that went sailing past them and out onto the sea where it eventually slowed to a stop right beside the Marine ship closest to the island.
"Is that...?" Minchey gaped as he stared at the old man in shock.
"Way to go, goat man!" Luffy cheered.
"Hey, don't encourage him like that!" Sanji snapped.
"His heart hasn't stopped, has it?" Zoro asked.
"Don't make jokes like that, Zoro!" Nami snapped.
"Yeah, that's not really something to joke about" I scolded, now worried for the old man's well-being.
"Old-timer, are you okay?!" Chopper worriedly asked, calling out to the old man.
"I'm actually at sea, I've done it...I've become a pirate..." Zenny said in awe as if he couldn't believe what he had just done. "No longer is this my coffin, it's the pirate ship Zenny! Scourge of the seas, right guys?" he brightly smiled as the goats around him cheerfully bleated in response.
"Yeah, old goat man!" Luffy cheered as well.
"We've told you not to encourage him!" everyone snapped as I laughed.
"He's a sick old man!" Chopper scolded.
"That may be so, but I think to Luffy that doesn't matter as much as the old man fulfilling his dream" I chuckled. "Besides, look how happy he is" I smiled, happy to see the old-timer so ecstatic to finally be fulfilling his lifelong dream.
"Well, if it isn't Zenny the Moneylender—even with that ship you're nothing more than a blood-sucking penny extortionist" Minchy smirked.
"Well, not anymore I'm not—you're talking to Zenny the Pirate, boy!" Zenny laughed.
"And you're talking to the Marines, you geezer!" the redhead sneered.
"Be careful, old man, he's after your treasure!" Usopp warned.
"Oh? Lately, the Marines have started going after treasure on the side instead of just doing their duty and hunting pirates as ordered?" Zenny questioned. "I have to say, that's very industrious of you" he mocked.
"I'll say..." I muttered with the roll of my eyes, the corner of my lips twitching in amusement.
"Nami, bring the ship around!" Zoro quickly ordered.
"I'm on it, come on!" Nami nodded, motioning for the rest of the guys to come with her.
"Dammit! You don't get to give my sweet Nami orders!" Sanji growled back at the swordsman before following after the navigator.
"Sergeant Minchey, the Straw Hat Pirates are up to something! Call Captain Moore for backup!" the Corporal ordered.
"Shut up!" Minchey snarled, firing his gun as he shot at the Corporal in anger which caused all of us to halt in our movements and stare back toward the shaking man who stumbled back and fell onto his bottom in shock at the bullet hole in the sand right in front of him. "I told you, you'll get your cut of the treasure, didn't I? Keep your mouth shut—we can't let the Captain know what's going on!" the redhead sneered.
"Let's see now" Zenny hummed in thought as he sat on the deck of his ship, messing around with his abacus. "Yes, I figure you must be paying your men all sea so you can take on this side project—that must cost you a pretty penny, eh, Sergeant?" he snickered, causing the man's face to grow red with anger.
"Why you smelly, old kook!" Minchey growled. "You're going to pay for this if I have to—"
"Shut your stinking mouth!" Zenny snapped, cutting the redheaded off. "A worm like you has got a lot of nerve thinking you can swipe my treasure! Come and take it from me if you can!" he laughed.
"You tell him, old goat man!" Luffy cheered, stretching his arms out as he suddenly grabbed hold of Zenny's ship. "Let's show him how pirates really fight!" he grinned, a certain glint in his eyes as he manually moved Zenny's ship away from the Marines.
"Uh...Luffy, what are you doing?" I cautiously asked, a nervous sweat building itself upon mine and everyone else's brows.
"Please tell me you're not about to do what I think you're about to do" Nami pleaded before wincing as we watched how the captain dragged the old man's ship back towards Minchey's which in return caused both men to scream out of fear as their ships harshly collided with one another.
"There!" Luffy grinned after he finished pushing the Marine's ship all the way into a nearby cliffside.
"Moron!" we angrily snapped.
"Why'd you do that?" Zenny weakly asked, now disorientated and sprawled out on the deck of his ship.
"Dammit! If you're pirates, you won't mind if we do our duty and kill you!" Minchey sneered as he shot back up.
"Does he have any weapons? Cause I don't think he does" Zoro said.
"I mean, he has his goats" I pointed out.
"What good are those goats going to be against armed Marines?" he asked.
"I don't know, they did a somewhat decent job with us" I shrugged, widely smiling as he went to argue before shutting his mouth when he realized he had no real rebuttal.
"So be it, let's see what you're made of, Sonny Jim" Zenny grinned. "Do you got what it takes to challenge my class ten abacus skills? Take him down men!" he ordered as the goats started to jump aboard the Marine ship.
"Oh, he's got his abacus and…" Zoro trailed off as he looked at my smiling face.
"The goats!" Luffy and I cheerfully chirped.
"Ha! And you thought they weren't going to be much help!" I laughed, grinning as he huffed with the roll of his eyes.
"Oh no! Hold on, old man!" Luffy shouted the second he saw that the old man was in danger. "I'm coming!" stretching his arm toward the Marine ship, he grabbed hold of a loose piece of rope hanging from the railing. Though he successfully dodged the cannonball that was shot towards him...that didn't stop him from still crashing into the side of the ship after Minchey cut the rope while laughing as he watched the rubber man slide down into the ocean.
"No, Luffy!" Zoro grounded out as he rushed into the water to go save the man.
"Be careful, don't get lost while out there!" I shouted after the swordsman while already beginning to nibble my bottom lip in worry.
"Are you guys blind as a pig—what are you shooting at? I'm right here!" Zenny teased as he hopped onto one of his goats, riding it as it jumped onto the Marine ship. "I'll make it easy for you, let's go!"
"What's the matter with you wimps? They're goats—you're fighting against goats!" Minchey snapped when he saw that his men weren't fairing too well against the animals.
"I can't help it, they're too cute" one of the men confessed with a whimper.
"Hey, Sarge" Zenny called up to the redhead. "The battles down here, not up there—why not come and get your hands dirty?" he grinned.
