This coming Sunday is Father's Day. Happy Father's Day, all. To any expectant fathers who may be reading this, congratulations and good luck on naming your sons and daughters.
On Wednesday, August 17th, 1994, Harry, Colin, Dennis, Hermione, Ginny, Hugh, and Tina were sitting together eating what would be the last meal they would have at the Creevey household. After breakfast, Harry, Colin, Dennis, Hermione, and Ginny would all be going to the Burrow. August 17th had always been the day that Harry, Colin, Dennis, Hermione, and Ginny were supposed to go to the Burrow. However, Arthur and Molly graciously offered to allow Hugh and Tina to host Harry, Colin, Dennis, Hermione, and Ginny for one last meal that morning at breakfast and Hugh and Tina had gratefully accepted this offer.
Tina knew how much Colin and Dennis loved her homemade pancakes and it warmed her heart to be able to make this meal for Colin and Dennis before they left. She served her pancakes with a side of sausage patties and on this morning, they washed their meal down with Sunny Delight.
Harry, Colin, Dennis, Hermione, Ginny, Hugh, and Tina thoroughly enjoyed this last meal at the Creeveys and when it was over Colin gave his father a very meaningful look.
"Dad, " said Colin sincerely, "I just want you to know how much I appreciate you letting me and Dennis stay at the Burrow for the rest of the summer break. The opportunities for the parents of Hogwarts students to see their children is limited as it is so I know it's definitely a sacrifice on your part to allow me and Dennis to spend the rest of the summer break at the Burrow and go to the Quidditch World Cup."
"No question about that, " agreed Dennis, now giving his father that same meaningful look, "Colin and I are incredibly grateful for your understanding of how much this opportunity to visit the Burrow and attend the Quidditch World Cup means to us and we wanted to acknowledge that before we left."
"I am going to miss spending those last two weeks with you, " Hugh admitted to Colin and Dennis, "But I know how much the chance to stay over at a friend's house and go to the Quidditch World Cup means to you and if it creates lifelong memories for my sons, then it is all worth it."
"Dad, mom, " said Colin, and he then ran up and gave quick but tight hugs to both Hugh and Tina and Dennis then followed suit.
"Hugh and Tina, " said Harry warmly, "Thank you again for allowing me, Hermione, and Ginny to stay here the last week. I'm sure we'll meet again some time. Take care."
"It was our pleasure to host you three this last week, " said Tina glowingly, "Any friend of Colin and Dennis is a friend of mine. My sons' friends are sons and daughters to me."
"Exactly, " beamed Hugh.
Next nanosecond, Errol dropped in and dropped paper clips into the hands of Harry, Colin, Dennis, Hermione, and Ginny, who each vanished from the Creevey household the nanosecond the paper clips hit their respective hands.
As they arrived just outside the Burrow, Harry, Colin, Dennis, Hermione, and Ginny were greeted by Fred, George, Susan, Luna, Arthur, and Molly.
"It's to great have you all here!" exclaimed Arthur excitedly.
"Hi!" chroused Harry, Colin, Dennis, Hermione, and Ginny.
"So," said Arthur matter of factly, "For the next two weeks, Colin you will sleep in Ron's room, Dennis, you will sleep in Percy's room, and Harry you will sleep in Ginny's room. Fred and George, you two will stay in your room. Hermione, Ginny, Susan, and Luna, you four will be sleeping in sleeping bags these next few weeks."
"Just like at the Creeveys then," said Hermione simply.
"Yes, " said Arthur, "Now, I believe Susan has some news."
"OHH!" piped up Hermione eagerly, "Susan is Madam Bones's niece. She must have news about the new department heads for the Departments of Magical Games and Sports and International Magical Cooperation."
"You really are the brightest witch of your age, Hermione," grinned Susan.
Hermione beamed.
"The Department of Magical Games and Sports may not be the most important department at the Ministry of Magic, " explained Susan, "But Auntie really wanted the position filled before the Quidditch World Cup begins."
"That makes sense, " said Harry matter of factly, "You really should have the position of Head of the Department of Magical Games and Sports filled when such a major international wizarding sports event such as the Quidditch World Cup is taking place in your country."
"Who is it then?" asked Luna curiously.
"You know who Amber Athlete is?" asked Susan.
"I DO!" cried Ginny excitedly, "Amber Athlete is a Chaser for the Montrose Magpies. She's been playing Chaser for the Montrose Magpies ever since she graduated from Hogwarts twelve years ago and she holds all of the Montrose Magpies scoring records, including once scoring thirty goals in a single game against the Chuddy Cannons two years ago. She has green eyes and blond hair and she's short and lean. She's very athletic with natural gifts for running, jumping, flying, catching, and throwing. She's thirty now and she's still one of the best Chasers in the world."
"Not anymore, " said Susan in a businesslike voice, "Amber Athlete has been offered the post of Head of the Department of Magical Games and Sports and has retired from the Montrose Magpies to accept this position."
"Madam Bones couldn't have picked a better person to be the new Head of the Department of Magical Games and Sports, " said Ginny approvingly, "She's very enthusiastic about magical sports but also a responsible person who will know how to make responsible decisions. "
"Something that can't be said for Ludo Bagman, " said Harry clearly.
"Certainly not, " agreed Hermione, "And Amber Athlete is the first female to ever be Head of the Department of Magical Games and Sports. "
"Now, " continued Susan, "Auntie has a very experienced man to be the new Head of the Department of International Magical Cooperation. This man is a tall and bald black man originally from Canada. He's sixty five years old now and his name is Gerald Globe. Gerald Globe has served as the Head of the Department of International Magical Cooperation for the wizarding governments of Canada, the United States, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Japan, China, Brazil, and Peru. But he's never held a position in Europe before. Auntie sought out someone with experience working in multiple different wizarding governments across multiple continents."
"She threw a ninety nine yard touchdown pass with this choice, " piped up Colin, "Gerald Globe will know how to work with people across all kinds of borders with a profile like that."
"I'm amazed at how quickly Madam Bones got these positions filled, " said Dennis admiringly.
Fred and George now exchanged grins. They pulled some fireworks out of their left hand pockets and their wands out of their right hand pockets and prodded the fireworks with their wands.
Before they knew it, multicolored fireworks lit the sky with the words in all caps.
CONGRATULATIONS AMBER ATHLETE AND GERALD GLOBE!
