-Chapter Ninety-Two-
"These guys really take their salvaging seriously, don't they?" Usopp questioned.
"Well, with how they talk and act, I can assume this is their job" I said. "It'd be concerning if they didn't."
"Well, I think they're showing off because their captain has a crush on me" Nami cut in.
"Is that so? What gives you that idea?" I asked, crossing my arms as I raised an eyebrow
"Just look—he's totally trying to show off what he and his men can do as a way to impress me" she pointed out, motioning towards the men now hard at work on the other ship.
"And why would he want to impress you of all people?" I questioned, lips twitching upwards.
"Why wouldn't he? I'm cute" Nami grinned.
"Yeah, you got me there" I chuckled. "I'd want to impress you too if I was a man" I smiled, lightly bumping her with my shoulder as she giggled.
"Move it, men! I want this done fast!" Masira ordered.
"Aye, aye, sir!" his men exclaimed.
It went silent after that saved for the occasional sound of low chatter as the men on the other ship worked. The atmosphere around us was somewhat calm...sadly, such peace wasn't meant to last as one of our men finally tried to speak to us after what felt like an eternity of silence on their end. Nami and Usopp were quick to cut them off, covering the speaker as they nervously smiled at Masira who was now staring at us with both curiosity and suspicion.
"So...uh...why such a big monkey? There on the bow of your ship" Usopp nervously smiled, quickly trying to direct Masira's attention onto something else.
"Yeah, it's rather...unique looking..." I nodded, helping the sharpshooter in guiding the monkey's attention elsewhere that wasn't us and our suspicious behavior. Although...I couldn't help the soft look in my eyes the moment I really took a second to look at the ship's figurehead and see just how...cute...it actually was. It looked almost silly with its adorable little design of a monkey holding cymbals.
"Oh, that? Do you like it?" Masira perked up. "It's a special bow I designed—it aids in our salvage, just watch" he explained as we all sighed in relief the second he turned his attention forward, his mood now doing a complete one-eighty as he seemed to just automatically forget about our strange behavior from earlier. "You're gonna love this—lower the Bark-o-Hunter!" he ordered.
"Aye, aye, sir!" the men saluted before setting out to do what they were told as they started to ominously chant the word "monkey" over and over.
"It's moving..." I muttered, watching as the monkey on the bow was suddenly removed from the ship and lowered into the water.
"Wow, amazing!" Chopper awed.
"Simply amazing!" Usopp agreed.
"Are you kidding me?" Nami grumbled.
"All they did was just drop it into the ocean" I deadpanned.
"Excellent! Now it's time for me to blow!" Masira grinned once everything was ready and upon hearing this, his men started to cheer.
"Wait...there's no way..." Nami muttered. "He's actually going to use his breath to bring up that ship? That's ridiculous!" she gaped as Masira sucked in a large amount of air before blowing into the tube in his hands.
"That's some powerful lungs you've got there, sir" I whistled.
"Alright! Haul her up!" Masira ordered once he was finished blowing.
"Aye, aye, sir!" the men saluted.
"Let's hustle men! Send more air!"
"Aye, aye, sir!"
"Captain! There's a problem with the underwater crew!" one of the men suddenly shouted.
"What?!" Masira frowed. "Talk to me—what's happening down there? Is it the intruders?!" he quickly asked.
"Yes, sir—they're in the ship" one of the men apart of the underwater crew nervously answered before being cut off by a scream.
"How dare you lay a hand on my hard-working men, intruders!" the monkey furiously shouted as he suddenly posed, his men now holding up a painting of flames behind him.
"Uh...you know we're not going to take your picture or anything" Nami sweat dropped.
"You're not?" Masira questioned.
"He was giving us a photo-op?" Usopp asked.
"Too bad we don't have a camera on us, we could have framed it on the fridge" I chuckled.
"Help us! Someone, please! Help us!" another crew member apart of the underwater crew fearfully cried out before continuing to scream.
"What are they doing to them down there?" I winced.
"I don't even want to know" Usopp shivered, turning his head away as if that would block out the sounds of the men's screams.
"I'll be right down! Continue with the salvage operation men!" Masira ordered before diving into the water.
"Aye, aye, sir!" his men saluted.
"You sure they're alright down there? It's awfully quiet..." I muttered after a moment of silence.
"Of course, I'm sure—I doubt that Masira guy can do much to them" Nami reassured as I huffed and lazily hung off the railing of the ship.
"I guess..." I mumbled, silently peering down at the calm waters beneath us before perking up when everything suddenly started to shake. "What's going on?" I asked, now clutching the railing as the once calm waves around us now became harsh.
"There's something else down there..." Nami muttered with a frown.
"It's huge! Anybody just want to run?" Usopp whimpered before screaming in startled fear as a gigantic turtle suddenly emerged from the water.
"Does anyone else see the monster the size of an island in front of us?!" Nami screamed.
"Captain! Captain!" one of Masira's men cried out.
"I didn't think turtles could grow that big" I gaped, staring at the giant reptilian in awe.
"Well we are on the Grand Line, anything's possible" Robin pointed out.
"One tooth is the size of our boat—that's it, we're done!" Nami whimpered.
"There's no monster, this is just one big stupid dream that we're all having for some reason" Usopp desperately told himself as he covered his eyes as if that would help make the giant reptile before us just disappear.
"A dream, right" Chopper hastily nodded as he and Nami joined Usopp in his delusion.
"It was just a dream" they all sighed as they tried their best to ignore the monstrous turtle in front of us.
"It's true what they say, ignorance really is bliss" I sweat dropped at the sight of how relaxed the three quickly became the moment they decide to write this all off as nothing more than a terrible dream.
"You know, our boys just got eaten" Robin suddenly pointed out as she motioned toward the air tubes the turtle was currently chewing on. "So was that ship we were trying to salvage" she added.
"What?!" I shouted.
"How can you be so calm?!" Usopp cried.
"Yep, most defiantly eaten" Robin nodded. "I can see the air hoses dangling from its jaw" she casually noted.
"Whaa! A sea monster ate my friends—what am I going to do?!" Chopper screamed as he frantically ran around.
"Nami! I thought you said they were going to be alright down there?!" I cried out, grabbing the front of Nami's shirt and violently shaking her back and forth. "You said they would be safe!"
"She's right, this is all your fault! You're the one that said it would be safe at the bottom of the Grand Line—I don't know what qualifies as safe in your book, but in mine, it's not man-eating turtles!" Usopp shouted as he and I scolded the woman.
"You're right..." she sadly muttered, looking down as I let go and placed my hands on my hip. Harshly glaring at her. "Sorry..." she sighed, crossing her arms as she looked the other way.
"That's as good as it's going to get I guess..." Usopp silently cried as he fell to the floor in defeat.
"I'm not taking that" I scowled.
"I already said sorry, what else do you want from me?" Nami frowned.
"A real apology."
"But I already gave you one!"
"You call that an apology?!"
"Yes!" she exclaimed before being interrupted by the sudden feeling of the ship tilting forward as the turtle started to move, now pulling us along with it since the air tubes in its mouth were still connected to our ship.
"If we don't cut the air hoses, that beast will drag us down to the bottom of the ocean" Robin remarked as we quickly clung to something in an effort to keep our balance.
"Ahh! I don't care what you do—just do something! You're the tough and smart lady!" Usopp cried out.
"Give me a minute, I'll see what I can come up with" Robin said as both ours and Masira's ship were dragged forward by the turtle.
"I don't know if we even have a minute to spare" I said, my chest tightening as I stared at the air tubes that dangled from the turtle's mouth. Fearfully did I wonder how the men were holding up and if they were even still alive at this point.
"Okay, boys! Time to save our noble captain!" one of Masira's men suddenly shouted. "Our pride, honor, and lives are at stake! Our captain is alive and we will find him—mark my words!" he encouraged, seemingly refusing to let his fellow crewmates despair or think the worse.
"They're right, it's in these challenging times that prove the strength by which we are made!" Usopp huffed, suddenly feeling inspired by the man's words.
"Usopp" Nami calmly said.
"Yeah?" he asked.
"Cut the air hoses and get us out of here " she instructed.
"Nami!" I snapped.
"What?" she defended.
"This is what we're made of..." Usopp sweat dropped as he fell over.
"Coward!" Chopper cried out before the commotion that was riled up by Nami's decision fell silent when the sky suddenly darkened.
"What is that? It's like everything got dark" Usopp frowned.
"Scary" Chopper whimpered.
"Did something just block out the sun or have we really been here all day?" I questioned.
"There's no way" Nami frowned as she checked the time. "Why is it dark? It's not that late, is it?" she asked before our attention was once again dragged back toward the air hoses that now started to move.
"It's time to leave guys—now! Luffy! Zoro! Sanji!" Usopp shouted, rushing to the ship's railing as Masira's men fearfully started to talk amongst one another in an indecipherable chatter.
"Luffy!" we shouted when the rubber man was suddenly thrown on board while wrapped up tightly in a blanket.
