(A/N) Okay, just to quickly explain, this chapter is basically the last chapter from Teresa's perspective for most of it. What she was up to and saw things and the rest will be basically the same thing that happened last time. A little shorter, just to introduce some new characters, and get the story rolling for the next chapter.
As we eavesdropped on Teresa Parker's whispers in the middle of the night, you could sense a hint of apprehension in her tone. "This is not going to be the story you expected," she said, her voice barely above a whisper. "Yet again...I wasn't exactly planning on being a part of this story either." Her words hung in the air as she went silent, listening intently to the sounds of the night.
Suddenly, something went bump, making Teresa jump up from her bed, fully awake. She looked around in confusion, trying to make sense of what was happening. She heard some shuffling and realized it was coming from her brother's room. She made her way across the hallway, her footsteps soft and cautious.
As she approached her brother's room, she could hear him mumbling to himself. She wondered what he was doing up this late and why he sounded so agitated. She opened the door to find him standing there, half of his body badly bruised. He had clearly been in a fight with the Lizard, a notorious villain in the city.
Teresa could smell the stench of sewer on him, which was odd because her brother had never ventured into the sewers before. She looked closer and saw that his suit was badly torn, revealing the injuries that were slowly healing. She felt a pang of worry for her brother and wondered how he had managed to survive the encounter with the Lizard.
"So...you're the Spider-Guy?" Teresa asks.
Peter sighed when he saw he was caught. "Yeah. I'm... I'm that guy."
Teresa looked down at his costume and scoffed. "You need a better suit."
"You're the third person today who's told me that," Peter said as he walked over and tossed the mask into his closet, using a quick web to close up the door.
"That's cool," Teresa commented. She approached her brother as he sat down on his bed. "You seem to be taking this whole 'great power comes great responsibility' thing to heart."
"Yeah." Peter sighed as he tried to relax with the wounds healing. "I can't stop thinking about it. If...if I had just let Ben explain..."
"Maybe he would still be here." Teresa understood what her brother was saying. "And since you can't change what happened...you are using these... superpowers to make up for it?"
"Something like that," Peter told her. "Sorry that I woke you."
"Hard to sleep when I am worried about you." Teresa sighed, always worried for her brother.
Teresa had always been a worrier, ever since she was a little girl. She had a tendency to be anxious, especially when it came to her older brother Peter, whom she cared for deeply. However, over time, she learned to manage her feelings of worry and concern. She realized that being in a constant state of worry was not only exhausting but also unnecessary. Instead, she chose to focus on being prepared for any situation that might arise.
Teresa's martial arts training had been a turning point in her life. She had taken it up at her Aunt May's encouragement and support, and it had helped her become confident and capable of defending herself. She had worked hard to become a black belt in martial arts, using her background in gymnastics to improve her flexibility and agility. It had been a challenging but rewarding journey, and she was grateful for the discipline and strength it had given her.
As she woke up one morning, Teresa realized that she had overslept and her alarm had been blaring for a while. She groaned and hit the snooze button, but then realized that she had an important driving test to take that day. She quickly got out of bed, feeling a flutter of nervousness in her stomach. She took a long time to brush her tangled hair, trying to calm herself down and focus on the task ahead. She headed downstairs to find her aunt May and brother Peter getting ready to leave. They were both surprised to see her up so early, and Teresa explained the situation to them. Aunt May gave her a reassuring smile and wished her luck, while Peter teased her about being nervous. Teresa rolled her eyes but couldn't help but smile. She knew that her family had her back, and that gave her the confidence she needed to face the day ahead.
Peter greeted her with a quick "Hey, sis" as he rushed past her to grab his things.
May, on the other hand, smiled warmly at her niece and asked, "Are you ready for your driving test?"
Despite feeling nervous, Teresa nodded confidently and took a deep breath, feeling grateful for her aunt's support and encouragement. "I hope. Third attempts the charm, right?"
"That's what they say." Peter joked. "I mean, I don't say it. I never bothered to try since I can swing anywhere."
"Yeah, we get it, Pete." Teresa rolled her eyes.
Teresa was now behind the wheel of May's vehicle and was preparing to take her test. She took a deep breath and started the car. "Okay, you got this." She encouraged herself. Then she took the car off of parking. "Let's do this."
Except she accidentally put the car in reverse, sending her skidding the car backwards and crashing into a parked car behind her. She totaled the entire back of May's car, and the front of the parked car. She looked over at her instructor who gave her a sorry look.
"Yeah, I think I know where this is going." Teresa whispered.
"Yeah. That was my car," the instructor reminded her.
A while later, Teresa stood by the side of the road and watched as May's car was being towed away, thanks to Harry. He called in a service to take care of the car and fix it.
"It's okay, it isn't too bad." Peter tried to assure Teresa. "Harry said they can get it fixed before May gets off her shift."
"That just means it's seriously bad." Teresa replied with a moan. "Let's just...let's just get to school."
Walking to the school's steps, Peter separated from Teresa and ran up to meet Bobby and MJ. Teresa kept going on her own and made her way through the halls. She tried to avoid the chaos of everyday high school life by making her way around.
As she was making it through the chaos just to reach her locker, she was stopped when someone was trying to hand her a drink. She looked to who was handing it and saw it was her best friend Kyle Rayner.
"Sounds like you had a rough morning." Kyle commented.
"How'd you know?" Teresa wondered, accepting the friendly offering of a drink.
"Your brother happened to tell me." Kyle admitted as they walked down the hallways. "Had a bet you were gonna pass with Al, so now I'm out ten bucks. Fifteen counting the five I spent on the drink."
"Ugh." Teresa moaned when she heard that. "I hate you guys get secrets through my brother."
"Plenty of people fail their drivers test, instructors focus on the tiniest things." Kyle tried to lift her spirits.
"I crashed my car, my aunt's only car, into his car. Broke both of them." Teresa recounted how her driving test went.
"Oh." Kyle has a rough time finding a way around that one. "Okay, that's on you."
"Yeah," Teresa as she nodded.
"Like...yeah, there's no way around that." Kyle had to admit.
Then the two of them came across one of their group's friends. His name was Albert Julian Rothstein, but he liked to be called by his full name, Al. Kyle took out ten bucks and handed it to him.
"Yeah, sorry, I love you, T, but you weren't selling confident enough in yourself," Al explained why he bet against her. "So, guys got any plans this weekend?"
"Not really much," Teresa admitted. "Unless my brother drags me along to do something with his friends, I'll be free."
"Well, if you want, we were planning a movie night." Kyle offered Teresa. "Theater is doing a double feature. Spaceballs and Young Frankenstein."
"Ooh, now that's something I can get behind," Teresa said with a smile.
"Teresa Parker, please come to the office." The PA system called her out.
Teresa moaned when she heard that and reached her locker. "I am really getting sick of this whole 'I need a therapist' thing."
"I mean, you kinda did." Al reminded her.
"Yeah, two years ago." Teresa stated. "Two years ago, I definitely needed this. Now I feel it's an incredible waste of time. It's basically 'What are you doing after school?' 'Where do you want to go?' I don't really know what's next. And... that's scary."
"Well, you're smart, creative, and a skilled fighter." Kyle recapped Teresa's most important traits. "Maybe something with the military."
Teresa scoffed at that one. "Right. Me. I'd rather work at Jitters."
"What's wrong with Jitters?" Al defended the establishment. "Have you tried the Flash coffee there?"
"You've been drinking coffee?" Kyle was surprised to hear that.
Al shrugged. "It was midterms.
"Okay, it's official. I don't know you people." Teresa pushed through her friends playfully. "I'm just an innocent girl called into the principal office."
Teresa made her way to the office where she sat across from the therapist she'd been seeing. She's been assuring people this was no longer necessary, but that only pushed the school saying it should be mandatory. And it helped put May at ease knowing that Teresa was talking to someone about all of this.
"Okay, first of all, I get it." Mr. Wade tells her.
"You get what?" Teresa was lost.
"Well, I've heard you've had a haptic couple of weeks." Mr. Wade stated.
Teresa started to think back to the recent events of the past month. She recalled Hobgoblin, Zoom kidnapping MJ and Caitlin, her brother being kidnapped by a monster, Spider-Slayer's, the Metapocolypse, her brother's trip into the Web of Life and Destiny. Her adopted sort-of brother getting engaged. A whole lot of stuff has been going down.
"Yeah, I think the whole city has has a haptic couple of weeks." Teresa replied with a snarky tone.
"Well, let's talk about you." Mr. Wade tells her. "It's junior year, it's time to start planning ahead. I mean, college admissions are coming up, before you know it, SATs, essays, applications. I know you've been doing some volunteering for the FEAST shelter. College admissions eat those up. I mean, I know you like to do it to help..." then he finally noticed Teresa's worried look. "Oh, no, I'm not trying to scare you, Teresa, I promise."
"You could have fooled me." Teresa replied. "Look, do i have to figure out my whole life before lunch, or...?
"Well, I want you to go home. Not right now obviously." Mr. Wade told her. "Then I want you to take a long look at yourself in the mirror. Asking yourself, 'who is that girl I see, staring straight back at me'?"
Teresa was a little weirded out now. "Okay, those are definitely the lyrics from the Mulan movie."
"Yeah, I am." Mr. Wade commented. "All I'm saying is right now, I see a girl who's divided. Okay, I have heard Peter and his friends, they're going to be graduating soon, and I am not sure if they have all things planned out."
"Well, Peter was the brains of the family." Teresa muttered as she crossed her arms.
Then when Teresa's lunch came around, she was out in the court while watching as something was going on and students were running away in fear. She wondered what was happening and started to approach while everyone was running away. What she happened to walk into was a fight going on in the football court between Spider-Man and Doctor Octopus.
"Otto! It's been so long!" Peter cried as he leaped in, using the football poles as a slingshot. "I would have thought two years in prison rehab would make you question your life choices."
Otto growled as he went to attack Spider-Man, only for one of his tentacles to be frozen to the ground. Bobby came in with his Iceman form covering his identity and struck to freeze the tentacle completely. But it ended with Otto smacking him with another one of the tentacles and grabbing Peter, throwing him across the air and crashing into the side of the school. When it did, Teresa backed off and tried to avoid the falling rubble. When she was trapped by the rubble, Peter came swinging down and shielded her from bigger pieces of rubble.
"You alright, sis?" Peter asked his sister.
"I'm fine." Teresa promised. "How did this start?"
"Otto seemed to be here for something. I think it's related to that whole AIM school from that team-up I had with Stargirl." Peter explained as a tentacle crashed through the rubble, grabbing Peter and yanking him into the air. "Ock! I was in the middle of speaking!"
Teresa groaned and watched how things played out and felt a little helpless in situations like this. She was forced to sit back and watch her brother run into dangerous situations and hope he comes out on top every day.
Back at STAR Labs, Bobby, Peter, and Teresa arrived at the labs after a few odd events had happened at the school. Peter had a bruise on his head, Bobby was rubbing his shoulder, and Teresa looked as if she'd been in a car wreck. But what occurred was a story for another day. Harry, MJ, and Gwen were out to help fix the car before May found out.
"You can have May's car fixed, right?" Teresa asks Peter.
"You're lucky Harry offered to pay for it. And promised it would be ready for when May got off work." Peter commented as he strolled into the Cortex. "Still can't believe what happened."
"That car hit me!" Teresa defended herself.
"It was parked," Bobby stated. As he strolled forward, he was almost hit with a fireball that went flying past his face. "Whoa!"
Angelica happened to be there and was shooting fireballs at a mannequin to keep her skills sharp. "Oh, Bobby, hey. I missed you guys."
"Luckily for me!" Bobby exclaimed as he panted in fear. "You almost turned me into a puddle!"
"Hey, Angelica!" Teresa was surprised to see her.
"Teresa." Angelica was happy to see her as she hugged her friend. "You keeping your brother safe?"
"It gets more challenging every day." Teresa joked.
"Hey, I saved you from Ock earlier." Peter reminded her.
"What's this about Ock?" Caitlin asked as she strolled into the room.
"It's a bit of a long story." Peter sighed. "It's fine, everyone is safe."
"What was he doing at your school?" Cisco questioned.
"I don't wanna talk about it." Peter said as he walked around. "what's going on?"
"Barry said we might have found another Metahuman," Caitlin explained as Barry sped into the room. "But I'll let him explain from here."
Barry pulled up the police file and showed everyone the photo of Skye. "This is Skye. But she's calling herself Quake."
"Meh," Cisco commented on that name being mid.
"And Quake is a whole different person than the scared, kind girl I was interviewing," Joe commented.
"She's dissociative." Wells took a guess.
"According to her medical records, it's a condition she's been dealing with her entire life." Caitlin took notice of this. "I'm sure all of the yelling at CCPD is what triggered it."
"So, we're stuck with a psycho Metahuman who can go mad at any second," Miles commented. "Better your earth than ours."
"We're gonna help, you know that, Miles," Angelica tells him.
"Yeah, I figured." Miles sighed.
"What kind of powers does she have?" Peter wonders.
"From what it seems, she can create shockwaves from her fists." Barry tried his best to explain it. "They looked like literal shockwaves."
"Oh, Quake, now I get it." Cisco was following along now.
"You said she was raised in the foster system?" Iris asks as she sneaks onto the computers.
"Yep, all her life," Joe confirmed to his daughter. "She went home to home."
Wanda leaned in and noticed them with Iris. "Wow. And maybe not so good ones."
"Yeah. She's right. Her current foster father, the one who got hurt, he's got some disorderly conduct." Iris agreed with her. "He might have some information we can use."
"Mind if I come along?" Wanda asks.
"Sure," Iris said.
"There's something else," Barry told them. "She got her powers from Alchemy. When I said his name, she knew who he was, so Quake must've existed in the other timeline too."
"Who is Alchemy?" Wells asks them.
"Dr. Alchemy is a magic man in a cloak who can somehow restore the powers people had in Flashpoint," Cisco informs him.
"And what's Flashpoint?" Miles now asks them.
"It's what we call the alternative timeline Barry created when he went back to save his mom," Teresa explains.
"So, Quake is another side effect from your time trip," Wells put it together. "Genius, not."
"Is there something in Earth-1's atmosphere? He didn't do this on our Earth." Angelica comments.
"Yeah, it's a little weird." Miles agreed.
"Look, anyone with those powers and as angry as she is needs to be tracked down fast," Joe says to them as they all scatter to do their jobs.
"Great, well, fast I can do it," Jesse said. "Hey, Angelica, Miles, how about o go get a carb-load, and maybe you guys can take me on patrol?"
"Hey, he didn't- I didn't-" Wells couldn't get the words out as he watched his daughter walk off. He then looked to Caitlin. "Snow. Please."
Caitlin gave in and sighed. "Alright. I'll try but I don't know what I'm gonna say."
Peter was a little confused as he watched his soon-to-be sister-in-law leave. "What was that about?"
"Wells doesn't want Jesse to be a hero," Cisco told him.
"What?" Peter wasn't exactly surprised, but still sounded that way. "Okay, I get the need, Wells, trust me, that was a whole conversation I had with both May and Teresa."
"Not much of a conversation more of an explanation," Teresa said as she strolled off. "I'm gonna hang with Miles and Angelica."
"Wells, you do know that parent or not, you can't expect her to listen to what you say her whole life," Peter told Wells.
"He's got a point." Bobby agreed. "Nobody wanted us doing what we're doing, but we still did it."
"You two aren't parents, you don't understand," Wells tells the two kids.
"you're right, but we are on the other end of the spectrum," Peter informed Wells. "You're the parent side, we're the side who's been through this. I have super strength. She has super speed. Compared to me, she's more prepared to fight crime."
"And he was first doing it out of vengeance," Bobby commented.
Wells ignored Bobby's comment but seemed to be considering what Peter said. "What would you have me do, Parker? Let my daughter run into danger?"
"Rather than assume that these powers will get her killed and talk her out of it, maybe you should help her understand what is happening to her and instead of turning away from you like she's doing right now, she'll turn to you for help," Peter suggests, having been through this before. "This was one of the many reasons I kept my identity a secret from May. I didn't want her to try to talk me out of it."
Wells considered that and knew Peter did have to keep who he was hidden from the people close to him for some time. And that was definitely something he didn't want to do with Jesse.
Back in the city, Peter was with Teresa as they had finally got May's car back. They were mostly joking around with one another as they were making their way home. On the way, they missed the strange figure that seemed to be watching them from afar.
"I will go down on the record the car hit me," Teresa stated. "Why don't you get your license?"
"Haven't had much of a need to take it." Peter guessed was the only explanation. "I mean, swinging is faster, more efficient, and I don't get stuck in traffic."
"And yet you're never on time for anything." Teresa quipped.
Peter laughed and gave his sister a little push when he felt his senses alert him of something. He looked around and noticed a fee people in the area, who seemed to be minding their own business. But that's not what his senses were saying.
"T?" Peter called to his sister. "We might be in trouble."
"What makes you think that?" Teresa asked when someone came out of the shadows and grabbed her by the waist and mouth.
She shrieked to get Peter's attention, only to have the same treatment meted out to her. They were both being dragged off to some unmarked van, but something remarkable happened. A small taser gun appeared out of nowhere and shot one of the abductors.
Peter fought back and punched his abductor before grabbing Teresa and running down the street. Several unmarked cans blocked their path just when a Cadillac Series 62 Convertible came speeding to a stop next to them.
When the car door opened, they watched as a strange woman who almost looked like she had materialized from the sheet, like she were a chameleon in camouflage.
"Get in if you want to live!" She demanded them.
Peter and Teresa knew much better than to get into the car with some strange woman. But then again, if they stayed they were likely to be abducted by this group of people rather than the one woman.
Peter jumped in the front while Teresa ran into the back of the car. When they got in, the woman drove off down the road to get them away from the kidnappers.
"Computer." The woman called out as a small screen came out of the dashboard. "Activate oil slick."
The back of the car where the license plate was then morphed and was transformed into an exhaust for oil to exit the car and hit the roads, followed by the cars currently chasing them to crash.
"What the heck is going on?!" Teresa asks in fear and terror.
"You're being targeted." The woman said as she swerved to the left, pushing her foot against the gas pedal. "They work for the Kingpin."
"Who is the Kingpin?" Teresa asked.
"Teresa, I'd like to answer your and Peter's questions. But can we please survive this car chase?" The woman asks as she notices an approaching motorcyclist. "Gah, I hate these guys."
Peter however was focused on another detail. "How'd you know our names?"
The woman realized she had messed up and sighed. "Because I know you." She confessed as she reached up and yanked off her hood. Revealing the face of Mary Parker. "Considering I raised you."
Peter and Teresa looked at each other, both of them in complete shock and confusion.
Mary Parker was alive?!
They also heard constant cars behind them and turned to see dozens of black vans chasing them.
What did she get them in the middle of?
