Amelia, for her part, felt it was best to interrogate the Carrows together.

She therefore fed both of them a few drops of Veritaserum before unstunning them.

"What are your names?" asked Amelia.

"Amycus Carrow," answered Amycus.

"Alecto Carrow," replied Alecto a nanosecond later.

"Amycus, Alecto, Dolohov had you under the Imperius Curse to come here and help him capture Harry Potter and deliver Harry Potter to Lord Voldemort in the hopes that using Harry Potter's blood would help Lord Voldemort return to power and a body via a Resurrection Potion. Is this something you would have attempted on your own?" asked Amelia.

Amycus and Alecto gave each other and Amelia uncertain looks.

This was a notable reaction in that if genuine uncertainty existed within a person, Veritaserum would bring that uncertainty to the forefront.

"Amycus and I never attempted to find the Dark Lord after he vanished because we believed him finished like many others did." admitted Alecto.

"However, " added Amycus slowly, "Dolohov might have been able to persuade us to partake in this plan even without using the Imperius Curse. The fact is that both my sister and I want the Dark Lord to return very badly. Our desperation for our wish to come true might have allowed Dolohov to seduce us."

"Why do the Carrows wish for the return of Lord Voldemort?" grilled Amelia.

"The Dark Lord wants to rid the world of muggle and mudblood animals," spat Alecto, "We must rid the world of the canker that infects us until only those of the pureblood line remain. Only then will our world be healthy."

Harry, Hermione, Ginny, Luna, Susan, and Lily didn't have much reaction this time and neither did Arthur, Sirius, and Remus. They were becoming numb to this by now. They also correctly suspected that the overwhelming majority of Death Eaters were pureblood supremists.

"We were also given many opportunities to torture under the Dark Lord's regime and we love to torture, " piped up Amycus with an evil grin.

"Do you have a preferred means of torture?" wondered Amelia.

"The Crucitas Curse," chroused Amycus and Alecto together.

"Before his downfall, "gloated Alecto, "The Dark Lord had promised both of us teaching posts at Hogwarts. We would welcome the opportunity to teach at Hogwarts and help shape a young generation of witches and wizards. I was to teach Muggle Studies, which would have become mandatory for all students, and I'd have used my platform as a teacher to see to it that our younglings understood that muggles are filth, and that witches and wizards are superior."

"He promised me the Dark Arts post and I would have used the job to train up our young witches and wizards in the Dark Arts. The actual Dark Arts and not this defense bullshit, " bragged Amycus, "He'd have put us in charge of student discipline too. Oh, no student would dare to cross us."

"How much power did Lord Voldemort intend for the two of you to have over Hogwarts?" interrogated Amelia.

"All other teachers would report to us and any out of line students would be required to be reported to us," replied Amycus with an insane grin.

"Do you actually think that Lord Voldemort could return?" asked Amelia next.

Both Amycus and Alecto gave noncommittal jerks of their heads.

"Never say never," said Alecto uncertainly, "But it doesn't feel likely. There's no point in taking a risk when the odds are stacked against you."

"I give the Dark Lord a puncher's chance to return," mused Amycus, "It's like he's holding a sixteen and the dealer's up card is a ten. A win is unlikely, but, hey, there's always that chance you draw a five and the dealer doesn't get twenty one."

"We don't really expect him to come back but we aren't writing him off just yet," finished Alecto.

Amelia, feeling like she had heard enough, resstunned both Carrows.

"It sounds to me like the Carrows don't expect Lord Voldemort to rise again but that they haven't fully moved on from him either," observed Harry.

"I agree," commented Hermione, "In contrast to those Death Eaters that moved on from Voldemort after the war, the Carrows seemed unable to let go of that itsy bitsy hope."

""But then, Voldemort must have been confident he would eventually take over the school?" questioned Ginny.

""it was never clear how confident Voldemort was that he could take over the school," said Arthur honestly, "However, he always had a plan in place for Hogwarts just in case things did go his way."

"Even if they wanted to teach the Dark Arts, why eliminate the defense?" asked Lily, "I mean, even Dark witches and wizards need to be able to defend themselves, right?"

"The Carrows probably believe in survival of the fittest, " suggested Susan.

"That's somewhat true," confirmed Sirius, "More than anything, they wanted the control that would come with others not knowing defensive spells."

"They seem to be proud and vain," said Luna dreamily, staring off up at ceiling.

"Oh, they are," confirmed Remus.

"Most Dark witches and wizards are proud," piped up Harry, 'Which is why they all fall in the long run. Lack of humility makes people vulnerable.

Everyone else nodded.
