Amelia next turned her attention to Mulciber. She fed him three drops of Veritaserum and unstunned him.
"What is your name?" asked Amelia to start the interrogation.
"Mulciber," replied Mulciber.
"Were you ever a Death Eater?" inquired Amelia.
"Before the Dark Lord fell, I served him as a Death Eater. I had a very specific job within the ranks and that was to place the Imperius Curse on people to force them to do the Dark Lord's bidding. I am incredibly talented at the Imperius Curse both in terms of performing it and fighting it, " answered Mulciber.
"Why did you join Lord Voldemort?" grilled Amelia.
"He recruited me with the clear understanding that my job would be to perform the Imperius Curse whenever the Dark Lord wanted me to so that others would do his bidding while under the curse, "spilled Mulciber, "I accepted the Dark Lord's offer to become a Death Eater under those terms and conditions because I really enjoy using the Imperius Curse. Even though most of my Imperius Curses during the war were done to make people do the Dark Lord's bidding rather than my own, I still really enjoyed the feeling of knowing I could control people."
"What have you been doing since Lord Voldemort's downfall?" wondered Amelia.
"I've been continuing to practice my Imperius Curse," said Mulciber smugly, "I've been using it for more mundane things, such as making my neighbors go shopping for me and pay using their own money. I don't know if there's any chance of there being another Dark Lord in the future nor do I know if it's possible for the Dark Lord to rise again. Dolohov put a group of Death Eaters under the Imperius Curse to come here today to try to capture Harry Potter. I could have resisted Dolohov's Imperius Curse today but chose not to because I would like for the Dark Lord to return to power so why not give it a shot?"
"Did Lord Voldemort employ a large group of Death Eaters to use Imperius Curses?" questioned Amelia.
"No," piped up Mulciber matter of factly, "The Dark Lord always felt that the Imperius Curse was more effective if used in selected cases and not all the time. I was the only Death Eater whose job was focused on that. "
"Did you expect Dolohov's plan today to succeed?" interrogated Amelia.
"I did," said Mulciber, sounding surprised that it hadn't worked, "The thing is, neither Dolohov nor I had counted on the circumstances in which we encountered Harry today. We both took it for granted that we'd run into Harry Potter by himself. We certainly hadn't reckoned on him having five followers with him."
"I don't have followers, I have friends," declared Harry very angrily.
"Were you ever captured or arrested?" Amelia grilled Mulciber.
"No," said Mulciber briskly, "There are plenty of Death Eaters who were never even suspected of being Death Eaters because they just weren't publicly prominent enough. I was one of those Death Eaters. "
"Well, Mulciber, I think who and what you are is obvious," sighed Amelia, restunning Mulciber.
"It's interesting that Mulciber could have resisted Dolohov's Imperius Curse and CHOSE not to," said Harry thoughtfully, "It's clear that Mulciber thought Dolohov had the right idea."
"That is obvious, " sighed Amelia, "I've got a lot to sort out after these interviews and I still have three of those left to conduct!"
"I'm sorry, Aunt Amelia, " said Susan sympathetically.
"It's okay, Susan, " said Amelia calmly, "I knew when I accepted the position of Head of the Department of Magical Law Enforcement that there would be times when the job would be quite stressful and/or busy. I knew what I was getting myself into. "
"You're doing a fantastic job, Aunt Amelia, " piped up Susan proudly.
"Thank you, Susan," smiled Amelia, her spirits lifting a bit after the compliment from her niece.
"Mulciber seems more detached than most Death Eaters," observed Hermione.
"I agree," nodded Ginny, "It's almost like he just shows up and punches the clock and does his job in a businesslike fashion and goes home."
"He was always known as one of the calmer and mellower Death Eaters back in the day," explained Arthur.
"He certainly lacks the passion and insanity of some of the more notable Death Eaters," observed Lily.
"That's true," agreed Luna, "He seems like the type who would feel great internal savage pleasure at his deeds but not show it outwardly."
"You are wise and thoughtful, Luna Lovegood," beamed Lily.
"It's a bit scary that a number of Death Eaters were never even suspected of being Death Eaters," interjected Susan, "That means if Lord Voldemort ever rises again, he will have supporters at his disposal that we will never even suspect him of having."
"Hopefully he will never rise again," said Sirius seriously.
"Dolohov and Mulciber both really shot themselves in the foot by EXPECTING Harry to be in Hogsmeade alone," said Remus bluntly.
"That was an incredibly stupid assumption even by criminal standards," mused Sirius.
"It seems to be that the Death Eaters were indeed a group who had very specific roles in their group," said Harry simply, "The other thing with Mulciber is he just seems like he just takes things in stride and goes along with things without caring too much about anything overly much. Though, I think we can all agree that any person who finds pleasure and enjoyment out of using the Imperius Curse is repugnant and repulsive."
Everybody else nodded.
