-Chapter One Hundred and Thirteen-
"Quite a successful adventure" Pagaya happily answered, holding up a bundle of fish he had got. "I have an idea, you should all come over for dinner—we'll fill your bellies with the taste of the island" he suggested, already politely inviting us all over for dinner despite having just met us.
"I'm all for that, I'm starving" Luffy grinned.
"That sounds lovely" I smiled as already I could feel the way my stomach was starting to lowly growl at the prospect of food.
"Sky Island cuisine? Do you mind if I help you prepare it?" Sanji curiously asked.
"No" Pagaya shook his head, not minding at all in allowing the blond to accompany him in preparing the meal.
"Before we go, I have a question" Nami quickly piped up. "This boat, it doesn't have any sails to catch the wind and you weren't rowing it either, so how does it propel through the water?" she asked, still curiously examining the Sky Waver that Pagaya had been sailing.
"Oh, of course, your people aren't familiar with dials—are they?" Conis asked.
"Dials?" I questioned.
"What are dials?" Luffy asked. Exchanging glances, Pagaya and Conis seemingly felt that the best way to answer him was to allow him a chance to ride the Sky Waver to help give him a better understanding of how it functioned.
"Look at him go" I whistled the second Luffy started the waver and immediately shot off at an incredible speed—going so fast that the boat just tore right through the clouds as if it was nothing.
"I want to stop!" he frantically cried before finally losing his balance as the waver inevitably crashed and flung him right off.
"Oh no!" Conis gasped, hands flying up to cover her mouth as she winced upon witnessing the captain getting thrown into the ocean. "I hope he's alright" she worriedly voiced.
"It's all my fault, I shouldn't have let a rookie use the waver..." Pagaya guiltily muttered, shaking his head as already was he quick to take the blame for the rubber man's misfortune.
"Did he forget the fact that he can't swim?" I sweat dropped. "I know we're up in the clouds, but an ocean is still an ocean."
"Then I hope this sea is more buoyant than ours" Sanji said, not at all concerned about our captain.
"Maybe" Zoro shrugged as Chopper began to frantically look around at everyone as if expecting one of us to dive right in and save our captain. "I think it's safe, we're floating in the air, so then you're probably right—he can handle it" the swordsman hummed, already quick to reason with himself why we shouldn't be worried about Luffy drowning.
"Huh, he sank" Sanji remarked as the rubber man began to violently splash around before finally, he went completely under.
"Huh, it's not the first time I've been wrong" Zoro shrugged, seemingly indifferent to the situation at hand—not the least bothered at all that our captain was currently drowning.
"I'll save you!" Chopper worriedly cried out as he jumped right into the cloudy water without a second thought.
"Wait, Chopper! You can't swim either!" I shouted, watching as the others heaved tired sighs before finally Zoro and Usopp went right in after the two.
"That was close" Sanji said when Zoro finally dragged a soaking wet Luffy back on shore.
"Close? You were standing on the beach—what do you know about close?!" Zoro irritably snapped. "Oh yeah, thanks for the help by the way!" he growled in slight frustration before huffing as he glared down at the rubber man who seemed to be in a daze after his near-death experience.
"Was it really necessary for you to jump in too?" Usopp grumbled as he dragged Chopper back onshore as well, also clearly irritated with the actions of the other Devil Fruit user.
"Scary...Sky Island scary..." Chopper softly whimpered to himself.
"It's okay, buddy" I said as I squatted down. "You did a good job in trying to save the captain" I lightly praised, gently patting his chest as he quietly sniffed.
"Really?" he mumbled, looking up at me with glossy eyes.
"Yep, you were real brave jumping in after him" I smiled, heart practically melting at the way he happily beamed at the praise.
"I apologize for letting him take the waver out" Pagaya apologized with a bow. "With his light body even a small weight could shake the rudder, unless you know the White White Sea like the back of your hand—the waver is almost impossible to ride, again, I'm sorry" he apologized once more.
"It's only recently that I've become good enough to ride it" Conis admitted as if attempting to make Luffy feel a little better about his lack of experience.
"Whoa, is it really that hard?" Chopper asked, surprised to find that such a tiny boat could be so hard to handle.
"It usually takes ten years to drive it" Pagaya explained just as the Sky Waver washed back up on shore.
"You've got to be joking!" Chopper gaped, shocked at this revelation just as Nami picked up the waver and seemed to ask to have a turn on it as well. Pagaya looked hesitant, but eventually, he nodded and allowed the ginger a chance to ride the waver seeing how it was only fair after letting Luffy have a chance at riding it.
"Wow! Look at her go!" Usopp whistled in amazement as we watched Nami effortlessly glide through the clouds.
"Seems she's a born natural!" I laughed, impressed as I watched how she rode the Sky Waver with complete and utter ease—quite the contrast to how Luffy had ridden it earlier.
"This is wonderful!" Nami happily laughed, clearly enjoying herself as she easily was able to keep her balance and control wherever the Sky Waver went almost as if she was an expert.
"Go Nami! You're a vision riding that waver!" Sanji swooned with hearts all around him.
"That's incredible" Pagaya awed. "I can't believe it—this is her first time?" he questioned in complete surprise, amazed at how quickly the ginger had been in picking up how to ride the waver despite this being her first time.
"Yeah, how come she can do it and I can't?!" Luffy pouted.
"Wow—this really requires some skills! No wonder you had a hard time, Luffy!" Nami teased with a laugh.
"Nami, we're invited to dinner! So get off that thing and stop being so rude!" Luffy bitterly snapped before he was harshly kicked in the head by Sanji.
"Talk about rude..." the blond grumbled in slight irritation as he pressed the bottom of his foot against the back of the rubber man's head.
"Stupid waver hog!" Luffy glared, already quick to start throwing out insults in his frustration at not being able to perfectly ride the waver like Nami could.
"How cute, you're jealous" I chuckled as the captain crossed his arms and began to pout.
"Go on ahead—if it's okay with Pagaya, I'd like to stay out here and ride!" Nami shouted, making it clear that she didn't really want to come back to shore just yet.
"That's fine, just be careful!" Pagaya shouted right back, assuring her that he didn't mind her staying out there and continuing to use the waver as much as he minded the idea of her hurting herself.
"Riding this freely on the open ocean without worrying about the wind is like a dream!" Nami joyfully laughed, sounding so happy with the thought as we started to make our way off the beach. "I wonder if we could use these on our ocean back home?" was the last thing I heard her pondering aloud before we were finally out of earshot.
"Whoa! Is that a factory?" Usopp asked the minute he spotted what looked to be a building that was pumping out various clouds of all shapes and sizes.
"Indeed, it is" Pagaya nodded. "That is a Cloud Quarrying site, it's where our clouds are manufactured and cut to meet all types of needs" he explained.
"I didn't know you could cut a cloud" Zoro said with a raised eyebrow.
"I didn't know you could manufacture a cloud" I admitted.
"You did take the Milky Road to get to the White White Sea, correct?" Pagaya asked.
"Milky Road? Is that the name of that messed up current we took up here?" Zoro curiously asked, tilting his head.
"Yes" Pagaya nodded. "It's a canal constructed by our engineers and made using the natural clouds we quarry" he explained. "There are actually two types of clouds on our island—the one your ship traveled on to the top of the Sea Cloud and the ones that float on their own. The ones we can build and stand on are called Island Clouds" he continued.
"That's not the normal clouds we're used to, are they?" Zoro asked as I looked off to the side.
"What are you two doing?" I sweat dropped while watching as Usopp and Chopper childishly bounced around on some nearby clouds.
"Having fun!" Usopp smiled as Chopper giggled which caused my lips to twitch up just a little as I softly huffed a smile and shook my head.
"Whatever, just be careful" I said.
"No, their condensation nucleus is different from what you usually see—it has to do with the mineral found in the Blue Sea World called Sea Prism Stone" Pagaya explained as he answered Zoro's question after a moment's of thought.
"Sea Prism Stone? What effect does it have on the clouds?" Robin asked.
"It's like this—inside the Sea Prism are corneous particles called Pyrobloin and during volcanic eruptions these particles gain moisture and ascend into the sky, our clouds are formed based on the density of the moisture" Pagaya explained.
"Oh yeah, I've heard of those before" Luffy sarcastically nodded.
"Sure, I remember when I was a kid…" it was at that point that I tuned out the fictional story that Usopp was starting to weave.
"You two don't have to be asses about this, just admit you don't know what he's talking about" I frowned.
"Enough with the sarcasm!" Sanji snapped at the two.
"In all actuality, there are three types of clouds that can be used in our day-to-day lives—the Sea and Island types are natural, the man-made ones come from Island Clouds" Pagaya said. "Now if you'll follow me, please" he said, motioning for us to follow him inside once we finally reached his home.
"Check out the view from up here!" Luffy gaped in amazement as he looked out toward the beach from the top of the porch steps.
"Look, if you squint you can see Nami riding the waver!" Chopper pointed out.
"Oh yeah, you can—she looks like she's having fun" I smiled.
"Luffy, what are you waiting on?" Sanji asked when he noticed that the rubber man wasn't moving.
"How come she's so good at that stupid thing? Fall off!" the captain angrily yelled, only to whine as soon as the back of his head was struck.
"Cut it out!" Sanji growled.
"Thanks, Sanji, you made me bite my tongue—now I'm bleeding!" Luffy whined as he stuck out his tongue and gently touched it with the tips of his fingers.
"Poor baby" Sanji huffed with the roll of his eyes.
"Skylar, Sanji's being mean to me!" Luffy huffed, suddenly throwing himself against my back and resting his chin on my shoulder as he wrapped his arms around my neck.
"How cruel of him, I'll be sure to ask Zoro to beat him up later for you" I snorted while patting the top of his head
"Whatever..." Sanji rolled his eyes before huffing a small smile as he listened to the two of us giggle. "Hey, Pagaya, which way to the kitchen?" he asked as he entered the house.
"It's right up here" Pagaya responded, motioning with his head for the chef to follow.
-Later-
"Nice place" I hummed as I curiously looked around the room and examined all the various knick-knacks put out that helped to compliment the room's décor.
"Thank you" Conis smiled before our ears perked up to the sudden sound of a ruckus coming from the kitchen, causing me to tilt my head just a bit in the direction of the doorway as if attempting to get a better listen. Just barely could I hear the muffled voices in the other room of the two men that were cooking.
"It sounds like they're having fun in the kitchen" Luffy grinned.
"Yeah, seems so" I snorted.
