-Chapter One Hundred and Fifteen-
"What's so bad that no one can ever go over to this island?" Usopp asked. "Is it full of monsters?" he fearfully inquired, already thinking the worse before anyone even had a chance to answer him.
"It's sacred ground" Conis answered.
"Sacred ground?" Robin echoed.
"You mean like it's holy or something?" I asked, raising an eyebrow as the blonde nodded.
"But it is so much more than that, it's the land where God lives" she further explained.
"There's actually a God and he lives on an island up here that no one's allowed to walk on?" Luffy questioned, sounding and looking almost confused by this revelation.
"Right" Conis nodded as if she didn't just reveal something that many would see as quite serious and almost life-changing.
"You mean the God? The same one from all the old stories?" Chopper blinked. "He actually lives on an island next door to you?" he innocently asked, curiously tilting his head.
"He does" Conis once again nodded. "I'm sure that everyone noticed the big sign that said "Godland Skypiea," that means this land is ruled by the almighty God, Eneru" she said.
"God's name is Eneru?" Sanji asked.
"What an odd name, I always thought God didn't have a name..." I muttered in thought, mulling over this new information as I tried to slowly digest it. It's not like I wasn't a believer or anything...just that something didn't feel quite right about any of this the more I thought about it.
"He knows and sees everything" the blonde continued, further solidifying the idea that she was speaking of the same God that we've all heard stories about throughout our lives.
"Everything?" Usopp nervously questioned which got him a firm nod in return.
"He keeps his all-seeing eyes focused on everyone, always" Conis said.
"For real?!" the sharpshooter panicked, quick to stand up from his seat and frantically look all around him.
"Like, right now?" Luffy asked.
"Yes" Conis nodded.
"I hate it when people stare at me and I can't see them" Chopper whimpered with a shiver.
"Same..." I muttered in agreement.
"God, huh?" Zoro suddenly scoffed as he leaned back in his seat.
"Wait, you mean you don't believe in God? But why not?" Chopper innocently asked.
"Well for me it's not a matter of belief—I don't see proof of it one way or another, and to be honest, I don't really care to" Zoro shrugged. "But if you want to go ahead, it's not up to me to deny anyone their little beliefs" he said, causing the reindeer to stare up at him in awe.
"I mean everyone's entitled to their own beliefs" I hummed. "Besides, humans are such stubborn creatures that you're only wasting your breath in trying to put down or take someone's beliefs away from them...you're also a fucking asshole as well for trying to do so..." I said, grumbling the last part to myself as I took a sip from my drink.
"So, Conis...," Sanji started, "if this guy—Eneru—lives in the Upper Yard and it's close, then you must have set eyes on him before" he assumed.
"Absolutely not! It's forbidden to go there!" Conis gasped, frantically waving her hands in front of her as if to stop the blond in his line of thinking. "The Upper Yard is sacred ground and a place only for God to rest, I'm sorry!" she apologized.
"I see, a place that we're not allowed to go to no matter what, huh?" Luffy suddenly hummed in thought, his whole person now shining bright with utter excitement at the prospect of a new adventure.
"Uh oh, I think Luffy's starting to think" I said.
"Oh no! I've seen that look in your eyes before, Luffy, and it always gets us into trouble!" Usopp shouted. "When the lady says we can't go there because it's sacred or whatever that's exactly what she means!" he cried, quickly grabbing a hold of the rubber man's shoulders as he began to harshly shake him back and forth. "I am not letting you drag me down with you this time!"
"Oh, hey, I understand we're not supposed to go there" Luffy grinned.
"But do you really though?" I asked.
"Of course—come on, do you really think I'm the kind of guy that would do that?" he asked, turning his back to us as he went back to stuffing his face full of food.
"Yes, absolutely" we nodded.
"Hey, wait" Luffy perked up as if he just now remembered something important. "If this guy is God, shouldn't he forgive you no matter what you do? Walking around on some forbidden island doesn't seem like a big deal to me" he pointed out.
"He's right, that sounds kind of like a petty thing to get mad over when you compare it next to something as serious as murder" I agreed. "Last time I read, God's not exactly petty."
"No, breaking any law set forth by our Almighty is nothing less than blasphemous" Conis explained, causing me to frown as that sense of something being wrong only seemed to grow.
"Then I guess it doesn't matter either way" Luffy shrugged before turning back to his food.
"Tell me, I assume there are some dramatic and vicious consequences in entering the Upper Yard—do you know what they are?" Robin curiously inquired.
"Yeah, I do" Conis nodded.
"What are they?" Zoro asked as he motioned for her to continue.
"It is our belief that if you go there, you will never return alive" she answered.
"Ooo, spooky" I whistled.
"Everyone who goes there dies?!" Usopp shivered.
"I must admit, I'm just as worried about Nami as all of you—I hope she hasn't sailed too close to the Upper Yard" Pagaya worriedly sighed.
"Nami!" Sanji suddenly shouted, leaning over the balcony railing as he began to call out for the ginger in hopes that she'd respond.
"Alright, let's go find her—we're wasting time" Luffy said as he suddenly stood.
"You don't care about saving Nami, you just want to satisfy your twisted urge to do the exact opposite of what you've been told!" Usopp snapped as he started to harshly shake the captain again.
"Nami!" once again did Sanji call out for our navigator, worry and desperation laced in his tone.
"I don't care whether Luffy wants to go to save Nami or not, I'm getting worried and I think maybe we should at least go out looking for her" I frowned, now growing more and more concerned the longer I listened to Sanji call out for the ginger and receive no response.
"But—"
"Luffy, we've got to get going!" Sanji cut Usopp off as he shot toward the front door and past the rubber man that was still stuffing his face.
"Yeah, I know—just give me a second" was Luffy's muffled response over the food stuffed inside his cheeks.
"Fine! Don't listen to me, but you're going to feel awful if something happens to Nami while you're busy stuffing your face!" Sanji sneered. "The food will be here when we get back!" he angrily yelled when she saw that his words had no effect on the rubber man.
"Uh-huh, I'm right behind you" the captain absentmindedly nodded as he continued to eat.
"Conis, I know this guy and I can be here all day waiting on him—can you tell me how to get to Upper Yard?" Sanji asked. "I got to go help Nami" he frowned, his tone and expressions nothing short of serious.
"But you don't know for sure!" Conis stressed, upset at the prospect that the blond would head to the Upper Yard only to find nothing there but punishment. "About Nami, she might just be out in the clouds and nowhere near Upper Yard! I...I mean, I can't explain how devastating it could be for you to incur the wrath of our God, Eneru!" she frowned, struggling to find a reason why Nami might not have been anywhere near the Upper Yard as well as how to explain how bad of an idea it would be for the blond to go and break such an important law.
"This Eneru doesn't sound like the nicest God you could have found" Chopper whimpered.
"He doesn't have to be, he's God..." Zoro muttered as I heaved a sigh.
-Later-
"Time to set sail for the place of No Return that We're Not Supposed to Go to Anyways!" Luffy exclaimed as we got ready to board the ship and prepare to set off.
"Great name" I snorted.
"Thanks, I thought of it myself!" he brightly smiled.
"Hm, I'm so very sorry, there's no headwind blowing" Pagaya suddenly apologized. "If you were to set sail at this moment you would spend an extraordinary amount of time getting to the Upper Yard" he explained.
"What?" Luffy blinked.
"So what's an extraordinary amount?" Usopp questioned.
"Expediently longer than it would take if your ship was powered using our dial energies, but it's not" Pagaya explained.
"That doesn't really answer his question" I said.
"Yeah, that's real nice, but we need a number" Sanji nodded.
"Sorry, only the wind knows your answer" Pagaya apologized.
"Oh, of course, the wind" Usopp sarcastically nodded before finally going off on a rant that everyone was quick to ignore.
"Old man, you got to know a faster way to get us there other than just sitting here and waiting for the wind to pick up!" Luffy frowned.
"See, Luffy" Usopp heavily sighed. "It doesn't matter what we do, you're always going to find a way to put me in danger—I can't live like this!" he dramatically wailed.
