-Chapter One Hundred and Twenty-Four-

"Oh...um...did you see anything, Robin? Skylar?" Nami asked, quick to look between the older woman and me as if wanting reassurance that she wasn't possibly seeing things.

"No" I shook my head.

"Nope, sorry, can't say that I did" Robin answered, shaking her head as well.

"Are you sure it wasn't a monkey or something?" Zoro asked, crossing his arms.

"A monkey?" Nami muttered as she thought over his suggestion. "Yeah, I guess..." she slowly nodded, sounding almost rather content with the belief that all she had seen was something as harmless as a monkey.

"Do monkeys even exist up here?" I asked. It was a reasonable question considering that we haven't seen that many animals wandering about up here so far saved for mainly various fish and a fox.

"I don't know" the two truthfully admitted as they shrugged.

"I'm sure there are" Zoro said. "If they have fishes and foxes then surely they have monkeys up here" he reasoned.

"Yeah, I guess that makes sense..." I slowly nodded.

"So, what do you think? Maybe we should check out the other shore?" Robin suggested, motioning toward the land across from the river, seemingly still wanting to cross it despite what had happened earlier.

"Forget it! I told you, I'm not getting attacked by those sharks again!" Nami frowned.

"Here we go again" Zoro groaned with the roll of his eyes.

"Please, don't start, either of you" I softly huffed, quick in wanting to shoot down any chances of another fight breaking out.

Walking again in peaceful silence, it wasn't long before we came to the mutual decision to stop and rest for a bit.

"Hey!" Nami jolted as a sudden and very loud noise echoed through the air. "You hear that? What do you guys think that was?" she warily asked.

"I don't know..." I muttered as I cupped my ears and tried to listen closely for the sound in case it happened again.

"Quiet—don't move!" Zoro suddenly ordered, tightening his hold on his swords as he began to cautiously look around. "I've had enough!" he snapped in frustration the minute a giant alligator shot out of the water and fell straight toward Nami who started to scream in utter fear. I couldn't help but burst out into a fit of laughter as I watched the swordsman punch the large predator away from us all—it seems he was in the mood in using his fists today.

"What a day, huh?" Robin questioned, resting her cheek against the palm of her hand as she tilted her head.

"You're telling me" I chuckled. "Either Nami's got some terrible luck or she's cursed."

"Try to be more careful" Zoro said to the shell-shocked ginger, now calm after being able to let all of his earlier frustrations out on the alligator he had just punched.

"Yeah...uh...sure..." she weakly mumbled.

-Later-

I did my best to keep myself balanced on the log we were crossing, arms stretched out on either side of my body as we slowly inched our way forward. Quietly did I listen to the sounds of the forest around me in an attempt to distract myself and keep from looking down at the raging river below that was just swarming with deadly fish. Despite how nerve-wracking the whole experience currently was...I couldn't help but take a second to admire just how breathtakingly beautiful this place was. So clearly untouched by man and left to grow naturally.

"Nami, would you pick up the pace? I'm growing gray hairs back here!" Zoro's irritated voice cut through the peaceful silence that had settled around us and caused me to become all too aware of just how slowly we were moving across this log.

"Shut up! Stop it—you're distracting me!" Nami snapped as she continued to carefully move forward. "What if I slip and fall, huh? I'll be dead—then how would you feel?!" she angrily ranted, clearly annoyed with the swordsman for even daring to try and get her to hurry up.

"Nami, don't say things like that..." I softly scolded before flinching when a Sky Fish suddenly jumped out of the water, scaring the navigator and causing her to lose her balance. In her fall, she desperately attempted to grab something to save herself...

It just so happens that something was my hair.

"Ow! Nami—hair! Hair!" I cried out in pain as I now lost my own footing and started to fall alongside the ginger before suddenly feeling a hand wrap around my ankle and harshly stop me in my descent. I screamed at the painful yank Nami gave my hair when her own body stopped as well—her entire body weight now painfully tugging at it to the point where I feared it would just rip itself clean off my scalp if I didn't do something. Quickly moving my hands, I grabbed ahold of her own and forced her to hold onto them for safety instead of my hair. Though I couldn't see, I could hear as Zoro took care of the Sky Fish above us. Curiously peering up, I was startled for just a second by the disembodied hand clutching my ankle before quickly calming myself when I realized it was only Robin.

"Nami? Skylar? You both alright down there?" Zoro asked once he was finished dealing with the giant fish—there was a tinge of panic in his voice as he looked down at us with a worried scowl.

"Yeah...but I have no idea how..." Nami weakly said as she appeared to be dizzy while just dangling there in midair.

"I think so..." I thickly swallowed, trying my best not to look down as I instead kept my gaze glued onto the disembodied hand that was still clutching my ankle as if that would help ground me and reassure me that I wasn't about to fall to my death.

"Sorry for being such a pain...and sorry for pulling your hair, Skylar" Nami apologized once we were pulled back up to safety and walking once again on solid ground.

"You're forgiven, but next time, please refrain from grabbing my hair like that ever again" I said as I rubbed the back of my head which currently felt sore and tender due to how harshly she had pulled on it. I'm amazed that only a few strands had come loose and fallen out due to her rough treatment.

"Alright—and thanks for grabbing us, Robin" Nami firmly nodded before turning to the archeologist.

"Yeah, if it weren't for you, we'd both be dead" I smiled in gratitude.

"No problem" Robin dismissively waved before she suddenly came to a halt which in return caused the rest of us to stop as well. Standing there, she stared straight ahead as if she had just spotted something interesting.

"What is it?" Zoro asked when he realized we had stopped. "No more monsters I hope..." he grumbled, giving my hand a gentle squeeze after having snatched it up the minute Nami and I had been safely pulled back up onto solid ground as if he wanted to make sure that I would stay by his side and not wind up in danger again.

"It looks like a well" Robin answered after a moment of silence as she continued to stare straight ahead of her at something the rest of us couldn't quite see yet.

"A well?" Nami questioned just as Robin quickly started to walk ahead of us—leaving us behind without a second thought as if she wanted to get to where she had seen the well as fast as she could.

-Later-

"I wonder what crawled into her knapsack..." Zoro muttered as we continued to follow after Robin who was still pulling ahead without showing any signs of stopping—no matter what was in front of her, she easily maneuvered around or over it as she continued heading forward to where she had seen that well. "Wandering off ahead like that, it's immature that's what that is" he continued.

"She must have seen something that caught her interest" I said before perking up when I suddenly heard Nami huff.

"If this is a thinly veiled attempt to call me childish, at least have the courtesy to do it to my face" she sneered as she responded to what the swordsman had just said.

"Huh?" Zoro frowned as he looked toward me for an answer, but all I could really offer him was a shrug as even I didn't know what the navigator was getting at.

"You know," Nami suddenly started, "when I think about it, most of the times that I've ended up in situations like this, they're your fault!" she hissed. I softly chuckled as I now realized that she was attempting to push the blame of all her woes for today onto Zoro.

"Losing it..." Zoro grumbled, swirling his index finger around his temple as he looked at me. A grin soon tugged at his lips the minute I burst out into a fit of laughter. "Could a well really be that interesting?" he soon asked, quick in getting back on the topic at hand.

"Maybe" I shrugged as we approached the well and watched as Robin quickly started to pull up its water bucket.

"Yes, don't you think it's odd that a well would be stuck under a tree?" Robin asked as she now held up the bucket and shook it. "The balance between civilization and nature is off" she remarked.

"Well, unless we find a way to cross this cloud river, we'll be stuck in this forest—we're still nowhere near where we want to be" Zoro frowned.

"It's like the people who built this didn't know the tree would grow to be so large" Robin said as she now looked from the bucket in her hands to the large tree that towered over us nearby. "I've never seen anything like it..." she breathed.

"Nature can sure be surprising like that" I said as I looked around us at the various trees that towered high into the sky—each of them clearly bigger compared to the trees back home.

"Hey, Nami! Can you see anything up there?" Zoro called up to the ginger after she had climbed up one of the trees in an attempt to get a better look at the surrounding area to see where we needed to go next. "Nami—say something, would you! What do you see? Hey, can you hear me?!" he continued to shout after not receiving any sort of answer.

"What do you think she sees up there?" Robin asked.

"Wildlife?" I suggested, not thinking that there was much else for her to see on this island based on what we'd all seen so far. It wasn't long before the navigator finally came back down, quick in regrouping with the rest of us as she hastily motioned for us to follow her without really explaining herself or even telling us what it is she could have possibly seen while up there in the tree.

"Uh...guys?" she nervously questioned the minute we heard a loud explosion, one that was big enough to shake the entire ground beneath our feet.

"That sounded like an explosion" Zoro noted.

"I thought I heard some earlier, but this one seems bigger" Robin remarked.

"You think it's nearby?" I inquired.

"I hope not!" Nami flinched at the idea that such a loud explosion could have occurred not that far away from us, instead, she seemed more content with the idea that it was somewhere farther away. "Either way, we have to keep moving forward!" she firmly demanded as she motioned for us to keep moving.

"Are you in a hurry, Nami?" Zoro curiously asked.

"You've been acting odd for some time now" Robin pointed out.

"Are you feeling okay?" I worriedly asked.

"What did you see?" Robin asked, finally deciding to probe the navigator for information on what she could have possibly seen while up in that tree.

"Please tell me it wasn't God" Zoro deadpanned.

"It wasn't! If I explained it, you still wouldn't understand!" Nami angrily huffed as we started to cross over some more logs. I flinched when she almost slipped, ready to help balance her back out only to draw back when she caught herself and angrily plopped right down on top of the log. "This is so stupid! Why can't I just stay on my feet?!" she growled in frustration.

"You said we should go this way" Robin reminded her.

"Something about it being faster" I said.

"Enough with the mystery, Nami! Spit it out, tell us what you saw?!" Zoro impatiently demanded.

"Quit ordering me around and just do what I say! We have to get to the seashore!" Nami snapped as she tried to stand back up on her own two feet, only to fall back down. "Will one of you please help me?!" she huffed.

"You're the leader, why don't you help yourself" Zoro childishly shot back.

"Hey now, there's no reason for you two to get snippy with each other!" I scolded as I gently grabbed ahold of Nami's arm and helped her to stand back up.

"The seashore?" Robin questioned.

"Yes, it's the only way we can get close enough to check this thing out" Nami nodded as she started to calm down a little. "Because to be honest, I won't believe what I saw until I see it up close" she admitted which only seemed to irritate Zoro further. Instead of wasting his time in carefully crossing the logs with the rest of us, he grabbed onto a nearby vine and swung the rest of the way to the other side, releasing another loud, deep yell as he did so.

"Me too, it's been bothering me for a while now" Robin nodded in agreement as the three of us continued across the log. "But I still can't prove anything yet, of course, it's only a theory until proven. But if what I dreamed of turns out to be true, it would be interesting" she confessed. "Very interesting, the one thing that I've always wanted in life doesn't seem so far out of reach anymore...although, it's only a theory."

"Glad to see you're not lost!" I teasingly called out to Zoro when we finally caught back up to him, grinning as I watched how his face flushed a little while Nami and Robin chuckled at my comment.

"Shut up..." he grumbled, quick in getting back to walking as we followed closely behind Nami who was still in the lead.

"We're almost there, I can hear the waves breaking on the shore—listen" Robin instructed as she took a moment to silently listen to the calming waves that lapped at the nearby shoreline.
