-Chapter One Hundred and Thirty-Three-
"I'm sure you each feel what you have to say is important, but there's only one way for your voice to be heard—you must survive or find salvation" Ohm said, drawing his sword just as Zoro rolled his shoulders while I only sucked in a sharp breath of air. Still attempting to get over the painful ache in my back from where it had harshly smacked into the ground. No doubt it was going to be bruised by the end of this.
"Looks like the snake's back" I remarked when the giant snake from before suddenly burst its way through the clouds and up into the ruins.
"Yep" Zoro hummed in agreement, looking just a tad bit irritated with the overgrown reptile.
"Now, if you're ready, it's time to bring this to an end! The almighty Eneru had prophecies that you won't survive!" Ohm proclaimed.
"Oh yeah?" Zoro asked, raising an amused eyebrow.
"If only your hearts hadn't been tainted by greed—you might have lived longer" Ohm wistfully sighed, shaking his head as he looked at us with pity. "I'll grant you a few moments to repent my rendered judgment" he said.
"How kind of you" I deadpanned.
"Huh? So I guess that makes you one of those Priests that serves Eneru, huh?" Zoro scoffed. "I couldn't care less about him or his prophecies, the only thing preordain for me in this crazy place is taking the gold" he grinned.
"I'll forgive you of that sin as well" the Priest nodded as if he already knew the problematic reason for why we were here to begin with. "Your only salvation lies in a quick death, one that I can mercifully provide with my Ordeal of Iron—I'll save you."
"Save us?" I frowned. "Doesn't really sound like it if death seems to be the result either way" I narrowed my eyes, aware that salvation and death were two separate things. One does not gain salvation from death because one's sins are not automatically wiped and forgotten after death.
"High and mighty words for a bragger such as yourself" Gan Fall scoffed as he glared at the Priest.
"Let's go, Holy—be as ferocious as you want, boy!" Ohm ordered, climbing on top of the giant dog that I had only just now noticed and had been obediently standing off to the side this entire time as if patiently waiting for his owner to call for him.
"He's so cute..." I breathlessly breathed upon spying the canine, eyes sparkling with awe at the sight of his pristine fur and grumpy face.
"That one is our target, Pierre" Gan Fall said. "Since he is the most powerful, we must neutralize Eneru's Priest first" he reasoned.
"I'm getting really sick of you snake, I mean, how the hell did you get up here anyway?" Zoro scowled as he pointed his sword at the reptile—having only drawn one as he saw no reason to draw all three at the moment.
"It must be really hungry to have followed us all the way here" I said, drawing one of my swords as well.
"Well, I guess the four of you will just have to die together" the Guerrilla irritably huffed before he suddenly shot toward Zoro and me. Quickly did we jump to the side and dodge the attack. We were given very little time to rest before a bright light shined our way as dust now flew up and surrounded us. Ignoring it and not letting it distract us from the target at hand, I made sure that I stayed in view of the man—my sword pointed right at him while Zoro quietly slinked his way behind him.
"You need to work on your aim there, pal" Zoro said as I charged forward the minute the man looked behind him to face the swordsman, his attention now no longer on me. I was certain that I had stayed light on my feet and silent the entire time, but that was proven to be false the minute he turned around—his body quickly moving out of the way and dodging to the side as I slashed down at him.
"Insolent Blue Sea dwellers!" he angrily snapped. "You think you can come to this land and take what is rightfully ours? You have no idea how long and hard we've struggled!" he snarled.
"If you Sky People want to blow each other to pieces, that's your business" Zoro frowned. "It's like I told that Priest, I couldn't care less" he huffed, truly not caring for the value of this land as his only goal—just like the rest of our crew—was to get the gold and leave.
"We're only really here for the gold, not the land" I said as Zoro shot forward toward the man. Right as I was ready to follow, I quickly moved in the opposite direction the second the snake's tail came swinging right by where I had been standing only mere moment's ago. Its forceful swing was enough to knock debris around and create an even bigger mess of the ruins. I frowned as I watched it start to squirm around as if in agony, not really paying any attention to its surroundings before silently making my way past it and toward the two men that were currently fighting.
"I did say I would finish you from the start!" the Guerrilla growled, aiming his cannon right at Zoro only for the swordsman to effortlessly dodge the attack just as I rushed toward the man and slashed down at him. Once again did he dodge, his body easily moving left and right to avoid every swing of my sword as I continued to advance. All of our focus was on each other as we fought—each of us jumping forward and backward in an attempt to attack and defend ourselves from the other's attacks. It wasn't really until one misstep on my part had him digging his elbow right into my side which, in return, harshly sent me flying the other way.
"Damn!" Zoro cursed as the Guerrilla's attention was once more directed toward him, sending the two into another fight. Hastily picking myself back up, I irritably huffed and blew a stray strand of hair out of my face before quickly joining back in on the fight.
Dodging.
That seems to be what the fight mainly consisted of as both Zoro and I continued to dodge the Guerrila's attacks with him doing the same in return anytime one of us would turn the tables and start advancing toward him. Quick were the three of us to constantly bounce back and forth being offensive and defensive as we looked for openings and weaknesses we could use to our advantage while simultaneously tightening our defenses to prevent such exploits.
"Now die!" the Guerrilla viciously sneered as he pushed away from us and took aim once more.
"Look out!" roughly did I push Zoro out of the way—not in fear of the man's cannon, but in fear of the snake that had come barreling toward us without a second thought. In a daze did the reptile shoot by, painfully smashing its head right into one of the crumbling walls of the ruins as if it didn't know how to stop itself just in time. Sluggishly straightening its posture, it shook its head before lashing out and biting down on the ruined wall it had just smashed into—letting its venom melt the stone as it gnawed on it in frustration.
"Alright, note to self, got to watch out for poisonous fangs" Zoro reminded himself as if he only just now remembered just how dangerous the snake happened to be.
"Yeah..." I panted, nodding as I watched how the snake continued to snap at the ruined wall as if wanting to get all of its frustrations out on the thing that had hurt it. I frowned at the way it irritably bit into the stone as it started to thrash around, hissing in frustration as if it couldn't handle the agony it seemed to be in.
"Speaking of fangs..." Zoro muttered, turning his head as we both finally took notice of Ohm and Holy now stationed right behind us. With little to no warning, Holy suddenly raised his paw before quickly smashing it down into the ground which in return caused the two of us to jump back and out of the way. "Whoa! I've never seen a dog move like that!" the swordsman gaped in shock.
"Not many people have, friend" Ohm proudly grinned as I turned my head back toward the snake the second I thought I saw movement from the corner of my eye.
"Shit!" I flinched, quick to dodge out of the way of the barreling reptile—its body practically rocketing right on by and all the way to the other side of the ruins as if it didn't know how to stop or even where it wanted to go. Unlike the humans on the field, it had no real goal or target, seemingly only lashing out at those closest to it and nothing more.
"You'll find that Holy knows a great number of commands beyond just sit and stay" Ohm boasted. "I'm a Sky Breeder, renowned for my special animal training—I've trained him how to walk upright on two legs and box just like a champion fighter" he grinned as the dog now stood up on his hind legs. "Show him, Holy!" he ordered.
"That doesn't really look threatening..." I sweat dropped, unable to take the dog seriously as he showcased some of the moves his owner had taught him. Instead of being threatening as the Preist had hoped, I found the animal to be rather adorable as he mimicked the posture and stances of a professional fighter like a child would.
"Nice doggy..." Zoro said, taking a step back as Gan Fall suddenly came flying down from the sky and right toward Ohm. Temporarily did the old man distract the Priest as he raised his sword and blocked the Sky Knight's attack.
"Gan Fall, you've already been beaten by Shura—don't you know when to quit?" Ohm asked. "What do you hope to really do? I doubt that you even have enough strength left to wield that spear" he mocked...thought there was a clear hint of frustration in his tone as if he was irritated with the old man for daring to think he could go up against him.
"I don't know what Eneru is plotting, but I will stop him with my dying breath if that's how it'll be!" Gan Fall proclaimed.
"There's no way a washed-up God like you could ever understand Eneru's noble thoughts, Gan Fall—you're a foolish old man! A man that doesn't have long to live!" Ohm sneered.
"What's with this snake?" I frowned, throwing myself to the side and tumbling over the uneven ground once more the minute the snake shot by. "Ow...!" I quietly hissed when I came to a stop and felt a jutted piece of debris painfully dig its way into my back. It wasn't too long after before Zoro came rolling up beside me, now sitting upright and heavily panting as he tried to catch his breath
"That stupid snake, it keeps getting in my way!" he angrily growled, finding it difficult to fight with how the snake kept shooting back and forth as if it didn't know which way it wanted to go.
"Tell me about it, it's starting to get on my nerves as well..." I huffed, also trying to catch my breath as my gaze slowly began to wander—eyes widening the minute I spotted a familiar-looking reindeer just sprawled out over the debris now that far from where I was. "C-Chopper?!" I choked, panic already beginning to swell within my tightening chest the longer I looked at the unmoving doctor.
"Where?!" Zoro's head swerved around in the direction I was looking as his own eyes now widened the minute he spotted the reindeer as well. "Chopper, no!" I was the first to really react, quick to scramble up onto my own two feet as I rushed over toward the unconscious reindeer with Zoro following closely behind at my heels. "We're coming, hang on!" I heard him shout from behind me.
"Oh, please be alright!" I roughly dropped to my knees the second I reached him, hands hesitantly hovering over his tiny body as if I was afraid that I would only cause more damage if I were to touch him. Carefully examining the wounds scattered across his body, I couldn't help but let out a choked sob when I saw just how bad they looked. "Oh, Chopper..." I whimpered, distressed by the sight of all that blood clumping up in his fur as bumps welled up along his face.
"I see, he was a part of your Blue Sea crew" Ohm hummed upon noting the reactions both Zoro and I had in finding our friend in such a horrible condition. "Hey, watch your step over there!" he suddenly warned, causing me to frown in confusion as I looked up at Zoro who was still making his way toward us.
"Z-Zoro!" I gasped as he grunted in pain the minute spikes suddenly shot out of the ground and pierced him. Painfully did he stumble forward before dropping to his knees as if the pain was too much for him to bear at that moment. "Dammit!" I clenched my jaw as my distress only seemed to grow.
"What the...?" Zoro groaned, causing me to sigh in relief upon seeing him still conscious and alive as he weakly attempted to move. "Barbed wired?" he frowned as he examined the spikes that dug into him and pierced his flesh.
"So that's his Ordeal..." I heard the Guerrilla mutter to himself as he too examined the spikes piercing the swordsman's flesh.
"Chopper, talk to me!" Zoro practically begged, finally making his way over as he stopped and stooped down to be closer to the unconscious reindeer. "Say something—why? Why did you try to take this guy on?! Come on!" he frantically shouted, panic now taking hold as he desperately grabbed the doctor and started to violently shake his battered, little body.
"Careful! You might hurt him more!" I cried out, smacking his arm before eventually snatching the reindeer from him as I now gently held him close to my chest. I sniffed as I protectively curled my body around his much smaller one as if wanting to hide him from the world in a desperate attempt to keep him safe from any more harm. "He'll be...he'll be alright...won't he...?" I quietly asked after a moment or two of painful silence between us. I didn't receive a verbal response, only a nod and a comforting hand resting on my shoulder as the swordsman gave it a reassuring squeeze as if that'd cement his belief that the reindeer will be alright in the end...
It did nothing to relieve me of the painful churning in my stomach as I only held the doctor closer.
"Shame, isn't it?" Ohm suddenly asked. "Those barbs are Iron Cloud—they're light as a cloud but hard as iron, blown into shape by a Milky Dial. I've rigged seven of them with hidden triggers, you and your little friend found out what happens when you step on one" he explained, making me tense. "This whole field is a weapon—I don't have to attack you, I can just sit back and watch your own blundering do you in" he grinned. "I'm partially the reason for that animal's defeat, but he's also to blame."
"How?!" I angrily shouted, already feeling my blood start to boil the longer I listened to the utter nonsense that this Preist spewed out. "How is he to blame when he's done absolutely nothing wrong?!" I choked.
"Because he stumbled into my Ordeal, all by himself—I guess you want to get revenge now, huh?" Ohm smirked.
"No" Zoro shook his head as he slowly stood. "Believe it or not, I usually don't like fighting for that reason at all" he admitted.
"Oh? I'm actually impressed" Ohm said, raising an amused brow.
"Normally," Zoro stressed, "but you've changed my mind" and with that, he rushed the man. Leaving me behind to protectively keep hold and watch over our injured friend.
