-Chapter One Hundred and Forty-Four-
"Boy, those Blue Sea people sure do like to party, don't they?" someone quietly whispered after being woken up by the rowdiness of our crew.
"After four days of this? You'd think they would be worn out—there's no way they can be human..." another grumbled as our captain and navigator continued to argue. But once the arguments finally died down and everything was calm once again, we patiently waited for the people who had woken up to fall back asleep before quietly huddling around one another.
"So that's the plan, guys" Luffy grinned once he had finished telling us what exactly he was wanting us to do come morning.
"I think he's right, gang" Usopp nodded with a grin of his own. "It's not every day we get to go to an island in the sky, so let's make this trip worthwhile!"
-The Next Day-
"Cut!" Zoro huffed, swinging his sword downward as I boredly sat off to the side—eyes drooping as my head would occasionally fall downwards every now and again. "You know, you could train too" he suddenly suggested, sparing me a glance the moment my head jerked back upright before a loud yawn left my lips.
"In my tired state? I might accidentally cut a limb off..." I drowsily said.
"Didn't get much sleep last night, did you?" he asked.
"No, I didn't" I truthfully shook my head, seeing no reason to lie with the evidence as clear as day.
"What were you dreaming about anyway? I could feel you squirming around beside me all last night" I didn't respond, not really wanting to think back on the nightmare that had come a-knocking on my mind before ruthlessly dragging me back into a hell that I wished would disappear and never return despite knowing it never will.
"I'm so lucky!" Usopp's excited voice suddenly cut into our conversation as the sharpshooter came walking toward us, a giddy smile on his face as he held a few dials in his hands.
"You're in such a good mood, Usopp—I'm assuming your trading went well" Zoro assumed as he turned back to his training, not feeling the need to continue our conversation any longer now that the sharpshooter was here.
"Yeah, what did you get?" I curiously asked, tilting my head as I attempted to sneak a peek at the dials he had on him.
"Oh yeah, and how—just look at all these dials I got" Usopp proudly showed off. "One little press and tada!" he grinned, pressing down on the apex of one of the shells and causing it to spew out fire from its opening.
"Nice" I whistled.
"Well, good for you" Zoro said, not really sounding all that interested as he continued to swing his sword around.
"You mean great—I can do so many things with them" Usopp grinned as he plopped down beside me which allowed me to get a closer look at the dials he currently had on him. "The old Usopp Workshop is going to be revolutionized! You know what? I can use one to store smells in your swords, that way you can smell fresh-cut lemons every time you practice—sound good?" he asked.
"No thanks" Zoro shook his head, quick to shoot down the sharpshooter's idea.
"Come on, you could cut your enemies down with a lemony fresh scent" I chuckled.
"Not interested" Zoro responded with another shake of his head. "What about you?" he asked, quick to turn the offer back on me.
"I don't like lemons" I snorted.
"Oh! Speaking of weapons, I'm going to use these to make Nami's Clima Takt stronger" Usopp excitedly grinned as he started to think about all the things he could do with the dials he now had. "Not to mention my slingshot—I can't wait!" I couldn't help but smile, watching with a gentle expression as he started to giddly bounce as if he could no longer find it himself to sit still. "So where's everybody?" he finally asked once he took notice that it was just Zoro and me out here.
"Luffy and the others are still inside and Robin went off by herself" Zoro answered, motioning toward the giant snake beside us as he finally put away his sword—now seemingly done with his training for the time being.
"The snake is still conked out, huh?" Usopp questioned. "He must be really tired" he remarked, looking toward the sleeping overgrown reptile.
"Same" I hummed.
"You'd be too if you danced four days straight—wonder what he was so happy about?" Zoro pondered. "Anyway, I hope they come out soon—when he wakes up, I don't know how friendly he'll be" he admitted, not really liking the idea of sticking around once the snake wakes up.
"Huh? Who? This well-mannered snake?" Usopp asked.
"Easy for you to say, you didn't see him when he was mad" Zoro frowned.
"Well, I'd be mad too if I had someone beating around inside my stomach" I defended, not really wanting to blame the poor creature for its sour attitude after learning that Luffy had been inside it the entire time—punching and kicking at the walls of its stomach.
"He's dangerous" Zoro emphasized as he looked toward me, not really wanting to leave any room for argument.
"So are you, but I still hang around" I shot back.
"Just because you're tired doesn't mean you get to be snarky!" he snapped.
"Huh? Who? This well-mannered snake?" Usopp suddenly repeated.
"Like I said, you didn't see him—just wait until he tries to eat you, you'll see what a pain he can be" Zoro huffed.
"Huh? Who? This well-mannered snake?" Usopp asked once more, now sounding like a broken record stuck on repeat.
"Usopp, are you even listening to me?!" Zoro irritably growled, turning around as his face dropped once he saw Usopp press down on the apex of the Tone Dial he was currently holding. From the opening of the dial came his voice as it once again repeated the same question as before.
"Fooled you with a Tone Dial!" he laughed.
"Ha! He got you good, loser!" I snorted.
"Stop being so stupid! Both of you!" Zoro angrily snapped, causing the two of us to laugh even harder.
"Me, stupid? You're the one that got fooled!" Usopp snickered.
"He's right" I teased, already starting to feel more awake now thanks to all of the excitement that was starting to build up in the air around us. "Took you guys long enough" I said when Luffy and the others finally exited the snake's mouth, now leaving Robin the only one absent from our little group.
"Skylar, my dear—did you miss me?!" Sanji cooed as he came rushing over to my side, his arms filled with gold as hearts danced all around him.
"Yeah, I was just telling Zoro and Usopp how this past hour's been hell without you" I overdramatically sighed, smiling just a little as I watched how the blond swooned. From the corner of my eye, I watched as Zoro rolled his eyes before huffing as he crossed his arms and turned his head the other way as if to pout.
"Come on, Robin, we can't wait too long..." Luffy grumbled, impatiently bouncing in place as his stomach loudly began to growl. "I'm so hungry..." he weakly moaned, body slumping down as we patiently sat there around one another and continued to wait for the raven-haired woman to return.
"Never would have guessed" I said.
"There's not a soul in sight—I got to admit, this is pretty weird" Sanji admitted. "Wonder where all those angels and warriors ran off to and why" he pondered.
"Hey, be thankful they're gone" Usopp frowned, quick to shut the blond down before he could think any more of the two races absent. "Trust me, if they see us making a run for it with all their loot we pulled from their favorite giant snake...well, they're not going to be too thrilled" he shivered at the thought of what might happen if we all were caught stealing.
"I don't know, maybe they'd let us off the hook since we saved everyone" I hummed as I leaned my body back against Zoro's chest which in return caused him to automatically place his chin down on top of my head.
"I doubt it..." Usopp muttered. "Nami and Conis probably already have the ship ready to sail by now, so Robin better hurry and get back here quick—we got to go" he huffed.
"I'm hungry!" Luffy loudly whined. "Sanji, got anything to eat?" he asked.
"Nope, all the food's on the ship" the blond responded, shaking his head as I stood up and stretched before reaching down and offering Zoro a hand he probably didn't really need, but still took anyway.
"You got to have something to munch on, right? Because come on!" Luffy continued to whine as if it was killing him not to have something to eat at this exact moment.
"I've had enough, I'm tired of just sitting around" Zoro huffed, ignoring the argument that was starting to break out between Sanji and Luffy. "You guys can wait, Skylar and I are going to go to the ship" he said.
"Why do I have to go?" I owlishly blinked, curiously tilting my head as I peered up at the swordsman. "Why do you get to make that decision for me?" I asked, lips twitching as I watched the way his cheeks began to darken in color as he now seemed to struggle to find a reason for why I had to come with him back to the ship. It's not that I didn't want to go back to the ship with him nor that I had a problem going back to the ship with him, I just wanted to fluster him is all.
"Zoro!" Usopp glared.
"Jerk!" Luffy frowned.
"What are you..?!" Sanji snapped.
"Stupid!" Chopper huffed as I sidestepped and backed away from the four who now got into a fight. Chopper only wept as he fell down, clearly unable to join in or keep up with the others who seemed to almost disappear into a cloud of dust and limbs.
"Idiots! Do you have to fight right now?!" I angrily snapped before huffing as I crossed my arms and turned away from the five. "Acting like a bunch of children..." I grumbled.
"Hey look—it's Robin!" Usopp suddenly pointed, causing the men to finally halt their fighting as they turned their heads. Looking in the direction he was pointing, we watched as Robin calmly made her way toward us with a group of angels and warriors following close behind her—all of them carrying something slim and large and covered by a large sheet.
"Hi, hot stuff!" Sanji wildly waved, instantly love-struck by the sight of the older woman.
"Hey, Robin, hurry up! Run!" Luffy shouted. "We got to leave—we stole some gold!" he wildly waved right alongside the blond.
"Luffy, you're not supposed to tell them when you steal something" I sweat dropped.
"Quiet! Look, you moron!" Sanji snapped as he grabbed Luffy's head and directed it toward the people following close behind Robin. "Right behind her, see them? They can hear you too!" he hissed.
"It's an army!" Chopper fearfully squealed.
"No, not good! Not good! That big thing can only mean one thing!" Usopp cried as he started to freak out. "A cannon" his voice returned to normal for but a second before he started to freak out once more alongside the reindeer. "Dammit!" he wailed.
"It's just our luck, it all comes back at once" Zoro frowned.
"Come on, guys, this is a huge leap in logic—for all we know, it might not even be a cannon" I said, trying to be the voice of reason.
"What else could it be?!" Usopp frantically screamed, not really giving me a chance to answer as he continued to panic
"Robin, get the heck out! We got to get back to the ship now!" Luffy shouted toward the raven-haired woman. "Check out this gold, I bet we've found every piece on the island, huh?!" he excitedly grinned as he held up the bag of gold he was carrying.
"I don't know whether to laugh or scream at you for your ignorance" I deadpanned.
"Oh great, here they come!" Sanji grounded.
"Run!" Luffy shouted.
"I guess it's up to me to handle this one" Usopp puffed out his chest as he ran forward, planting his foot on higher ground as he placed his hands on his hips. "Stop? Stop you say? Like hell we'll stop!" he proclaimed the minute he heard the crowd of people shouting for us to stop and wait.
"Yeah, you tell them Usopp!" Luffy cheered.
"We risked life and limb to come to this island in the sky!" Usopp huffed.
"Yeah, we did!" Luffy nodded as he jumped in the air.
"And then we found the City of Gold!" he continued.
"Robin, hurry before they catch up!" Sanji worriedly shouted, jumping in the air as well.
"If you think we pirates are leaving empty-handed, you got another thing coming!" the sharpshooter proclaimed.
"I still say we're all thinking irrationally right now..." I grumbled with the roll of my eyes.
"Let's go!" Luffy cheered when Robin finally came running toward us which signaled for the rest of us to start running as well.
