Chapter 25: The Special Administration Zone of Japan
At Ashford Academy…
Rin made a twinkie bundt cake with mint tea for her, Lelouch, Suzaku and Nunnally to enjoy together at the dining room of the clubhouse.
Suzaku started reminiscing to the vi siblings and Rin about the summer days of their childhood.
"Those summer days. I can picture them right now."Suzaku remarked with a sad smile."They didn't last that long, but I remember everything about them."
"What brought this on, Suzaku?"Lelouch asked."Why this nostalgia all the sudden?"
"I bet I know."Nunnally remarked with a bright smile.
Rin gives Nunnally a soft yet smug smile.
"Oh."Rin chuckled."Do tell us then, Nunna."
Nunnally looked at Suzaku.
"You were talking about the past with Euphie, right?"Nunnally assumed.
The smile on Rin's face shrunk a bit at the mention of Euphemia.
"Nunnally…"Lelouch started.
"She mentioned you three."Suzaku admitted."You were all really close, weren't you?"
Nunnally nodded. "Uh-huh."
"That's true with Euphie."Lelouch replied.
"So she was 'Euphie' to you?"Suzaku chuckled.
"As a matter of fact, whenever Euphie stopped by to visit at Aries Villa, it was mostly about playing dolls and having tea parties."Rin complemented."She had the habit of sticking around and acting as the glue that held people together."
"Yeah."Lelouch agreed."We had different mothers, but Cornelia and Euphie were in good terms with us."
"Cornelia idolised our mother."Nunnally giggled.
"So your mother was a Knightmare pilot, wasn't she?"Suzaku assumed.
"Yes."Lelouch replied with a nod."The Knightmares were still prototypes back then."
"She was so impressive."Nunnally remarked."They used to call her 'Marianne the Flash'."
"When I think about it now, she was a very daring woman."Lelouch declared.
"Remember that time at Capricorn Villa?"Nunnally questioned.
"Yes."Lelouch answered with a faint smile."She caused quite a stir when she got into a big fight with thirty of the other Empresses."
"They said that she rode all around the audience chamber on horseback."Nunnally declared.
Rin chuckled at Nunnally's respond.
"Oh, I remember that."Rin replied in amusement."Beside being an aesthetically beautiful woman, Lady Marianne was a sweet and kind-hearted person with a rebellious spirit and a deep protective feelings towards her children."
"Wow."Suzaku replied with a smile."It must've been exciting to be around her."
Then Sayoko walked up to Lelouch, Suzaku, Nunnally and Rin.
"Miss Nunnally, we need to go to the hospital now."Sayoko informed.
"Sayoko, is it time already?"Nunnally pouted.
"Yes."Sayoko answered.
"Can we skip it today, please?"Nunnally begged."How often do I have Lelouch, Rin and Suzaku here together?"
"But…"Sayoko started.
"No, Nunnally."Suzaku responded."You should go."
"We'll be here."Lelouch assured."We're not going anywhere."
"Lelouch and Suzaku's right, Nunna."Rin agreed kindly."It's always important to check that you're still healthy. But the three of us will always be here for you. I promise. So go ahead."
A soft smile appeared on Nunnally's face at her sister figure's words.
"Alright."Nunnally remarked.
"Well then, if you excuse me."Sayoko commented."Master Lelouch, Lady Rin and Master Suzaku."
Sayoko moved Nunnally's wheelchair and the two of them headed out to exit the clubhouse.
"Miss Nunnally, what were the four of you talking about?"Sayoko asked.
"The old times."Nunnally answered."Like remembering the fight Lelouch and Suzaku had the first time we met and Rin had to break them up."
Sayoko laughed lightly at Nunnally's declaration.
"That's boys for you."Sayoko chuckled."So who won the fight?"
"At first it appeared to be Suzaku, but in the end it was Rin."Nunnally giggled."She acted so strict most of the times, so that peace would be brought between Lelouch and Suzaku."
"That sounds just like Lady Rin."Sayoko commented.
Sayoko and Nunnally laughed together as they left the clubhouse, leaving Suzaku, Lelouch and Rin by themselves.
Rin blushed in embarrassment upon having heard Sayoko and Nunnally's conversation.
"Nunnally sure remembers everything."Rin stated.
"Without a doubt."Lelouch sneered and then glanced at Suzaku."What is it, Suzaku?"
"Huh?"Suzaku said in confusion.
"There's something you didn't want to mention in front of Nunnally."Lelouch commented."You never brought up the old days before."
Suzaku was silent for a moment before responding to his two best friends.
"You two heard about the Special Administration Zone of Japan?"Suzaku asked.
Rin's mood immediately turned sour at the mention of Euphemia's nationwide announcement.
"Yes, we have."Rin replied in a calm tone."Why do you ask?"
"Lelouch, Rin, I'll just ask this once and never mention it again."Suzaku stated.
"Hm?"Lelouch responded.
Rin slowly stirred her cup of tea with a small spoon, a little eager to hear what Suzaku was going to ask her and Lelouch.
"Lelouch, Rin, do you think the three of us can team up again like we used?"Suzaku questioned.
"Are you asking us to help you with the Special Zone?"Lelouch assumed.
"I'm sure Princess Euphemia will understand your situation."Suzaku remarked."A-And Nunnally will be happy about it too."
"Did Sub-Viceroy Euphemia asked you to do this?"Rin asked with a hint of suspicion.
"Not at all. It didn't come from her."Suzaku replied."This is something that I, Suzaku Kururugi, want to do with you two. Lelouch, Rin, just think about it. With your help-"
"We can make miracles happen?"Lelouch finished."You used to always say that when we were kids."
"I used to believe that too."Rin admitted and stared at her reflection in her tea cup."But we aren't kids anymore."
"Maybe we can still make miracles though."Suzaku insisted."Why not? We're capable of so much more now."
"We can also distinguish fantasy from reality now."Lelouch complemented.
"That's right."Rin agreed with a small frown."The Special Administration Zone of Japan announced from Euphie is nothing, but an insult to everything that Britannia stands for. Do you seriously think the Emperor would even allow such a thing to exist since he encourages the strong to reign over the weak?"
Suzaku let out a sigh upon realising his best friends were against the Special Administration Zone of Japan.
"You two sure have changed."Suzaku declared.
"You've changed too, Suzaku."Lelouch stated.
A small smile appeared on Suzaku's face.
"But one thing hasn't changed though."Suzaku admitted.
"And what's that?"Rin questioned.
"We were friends. Best friends."Suzaku answered."And we still are, right?"
"If that's true, then we have to tell you this, Suzaku."Lelouch said."Don't get involved with the Special Zone. It's nothing, but an idealistic dream."
A surprised look appeared on Suzaku's face.
"If we are still friends as you say you are, me and Lelouch won't stand by watching you take part of this failure."Rin declared in a small yet stern tone."In other words, Euphie's plan will bring only false hope of peace to the Japanese. It only spells unwanted trouble and possible terrifying disaster to come."
"I don't care about success or failure."Suzaku assured."You have to take risks if you want to change people's hearts. You'll never do that with cold calculations or being negative."
"You really believe people are going to follow Euphemia?"Lelouch retorted.
"I'll follow her."Suzaku declared.
"You know beside being short-sighted, both you and Euphemia are actually very foolish to have the belief that a problem must be changed from within."Rin scowled in a bitter tone."This could be probably why she chose you to be her Knight in the first place."
"I rather take that chance than siding with Zero and Shade!"Suzaku argued honestly.
Both Lelouch and Rin fell silent at Suzaku's declaration.
"Suzaku…I can't."Lelouch answered."I won't help you."
Rin turned her head away from looking at Suzaku with her eyes closed.
"Neither can I."Rin added."As I said, the Special Zone is nothing but a plan of false hope."
"Lelouch, Rin…"Suzaku started.
"Forgive us, Suzaku."Lelouch commented simply.
Suzaku gives Lelouch and Rin a sad frown.
"I understand."Suzaku answered."It was too much to ask. Forget I mentioned it."
"No. I won't forget."Lelouch assured."I'll remember that you invited us to join you."
Rin turned her head to look at Suzaku.
"Anyway, you should get going."Rin insisted."Euphie's probably waiting for you, isn't she?"
"Right."Suzaku replied as he stood from his seat."Lelouch, Rin, see you guys later."
"Yes, later."Lelouch answered.
Suzaku was about to leave the clubhouse before he stopped when Rin called out his name.
"Oh, Suzaku? A quick reminder."Rin warned with a small glare as she fiddled with her slice of cake."If things end up going wrong in the Special Zone, I won't say I told you so."
"Sure."Suzaku responded.
Suzaku then left the clubhouse as Lelouch and Rin watched him go in silence.
"Hey, Lelouch."Rin spoke up, glancing at her boyfriend."About the Special Zone-"
"I already know, Rin."Lelouch assured firmly."We'll talk to the others about it."
At the Government Bureau…
As final preparations were made to a stadium in the Special Administrative Zone of Japan, many higher-ups begin to suspect that Euphemia willingly joined Zero's cause on Kamine Island.
"About the Specially Administrated Zone of Japan, there are some unpleasant rumours about Princess Euphemia."the third government official informed.
"It must be due to the Kamine Island matter."the first government official commented."You think she contacted Zero and Shade there?"
"I suspect there's a connection here that goes all the way to the top."A female government official assumed.
"No connection."the Vice Minister admitted."The Viceroy wasn't the only one asking what was going on."
"But in any case, our connections with them need to be–"the third government official started.
"Hmm, right."the Vice Minister agreed with a frown."We'll have to sever ties with them at once."
Then the doors of the room opened, revealing General Bartley and Darlton.
The government officials were all shocked upon seeing them.
"I'm afraid it's too late."Darlton declared."All the evidence has already been gathered, Vice-Minister. Namely that N.A.C. profit-sharing bribe."
"I appreciate this, General Darlton. With this–with this, we can finally sweep away the parasites who were sucking Prince Clovis dry."General Bartley stated and thought in annoyance."There are more rats than expected. And all of them are confused by Princess Euphemia's proposed Special Zone, aren't they?"
At the same time, Suzaku and Euphemia were at the stadium, where 200,000 people were registering for the program.
The Honorary Britannian was amazed at the progress he was seeing.
"Over two hundred thousand people have applied to join the Japan Special Zone."Suzaku remarked."The way things look, that number's only going to grow."
Euphemia smiled at Suzaku.
"Thanks to you, Suzaku."Euphemia giggled.
"Huh?"Suzaku said in confusion.
"Because of what you represent to the Japanese people, everyone is rallying."Euphemia admitted."They believe in what we're doing here."
"No, you're giving me too much credit. It must be due to your proclamation, Princess."Suzaku complemented happily."I'm truly thankful for this. I really am."
"Just as I'm thankful to you."Euphemia giggled."And I hope you're going to help me with everything that's still to come."
"Yes, Your-"Suzaku started as he was about to bow.
"Not like that."Euphemia interrupted.
A surprised look appeared on Suzaku for a moment, but he then smiled as he raised his head knowing Euphemia didn't want him to act formal with her because they were a couple.
"Yes."Suzaku chuckled and then remembered something."Hey, Euphie?"
"Yes, Suzaku?"Euphemia said.
"I've actually asked Lelouch and Rin for help in supporting the special zone."Suzaku admitted.
"Really? What did they say?"Euphemia asked with a joyful expression."Did they like my idea?"
Suzaku's frown deepened at remembering the argument he had with his two best friends.
"Apparently, both Lelouch and Rin disapprove with your special zone."Suzaku admitted."They think it will end in disaster."
A sad look appeared on Euphemia's face.
"Oh, I see. I'm sorry to hear that."Euphemia commented and thought with a hurtful look."So this means Zero and Shade won't be coming to the ceremony."
Meanwhile…
Lelouch and Rin (wearing their Zero and Shade attires except their masks) headed to the hideout of the Black Knights that was in the Shinjuku ghetto to talk their allies about the Specially Administrated Zone of Japan.
In the meeting was Kaguya, Naoto, Kallen, Rai, Tamahome, Diethard, Rakshata, Tohdoh and the Four Holy Swords.
"I assume you all heard about my sister's Special Zone?"Lelouch assumed.
"We have, Lelouch."Naoto replied with a frown."And it's kind of worrisome."
"It's indeed an unexpected move from Euphemia."Tohdoh complemented.
"I don't like it one bit, Sensei."Rin retorted with her arms folded."It's a complete naïve idealism if you ask me."
"I agree with Rin."Kallen admitted with a nod."It's a total pity gift."
"That's what Lord Kirihara said too."Kaguya stated."He and the other Houses of Kyōto are totally against giving their support for the sake of their pride."
"Well, believe it or not, but the SAZ has already a great deal of support, unsurprising from the Japanese population."Rai pointed out."The support are mostly from those living in the ghettos beside some Honorary Britannians."
"Unlike the Black Knights, there's no risk involved in signing up for the Japan Special Zone."Diethard informed.
"Besides, when you compare the pedigreed princess with the mysterious, unknown man behind the mask, it's obvious which one exudes more appeal."Rakshata remarked while holding her kiseru pipe.
"Then again, do you all actually believe that all Britannians will accept wanting the Japanese people to be treated as equals?"Rin questioned."Even if Euphemia says its true that they're offering equality, do you think the Emperor will allow this to happen?"
"I doubt he would since he doesn't really care about the lives of foreign nations."Kallen replied with a frown."He will likely see Euphemia's Special Zone as a threat to his ideology and would find a way to sabotage it."
"He seriously would do that?"Asahina said in disgust.
"The Emperor was the one who exiled Lelouch and his sister to Japan before the war started."Rai reminded."I doubt that sicko would care if Euphemia ends up dead by his own actions."
Urabe glanced at Lelouch, who looked down on the floor in thought.
"Would do you think, Zero?"Urabe asked.
Lelouch brought his attention at his allies.
"Euphemia's Special Zone won't likely last long."Lelouch complemented."Even if it's for good intentions, my sister doesn't understand the consequences in making something that goes against everything that the Emperor makes Britannia like some sort of Utopia. But despite the Special Zone crippling our part of our plans and goals, we can still work our way around it."
"Huh?"Kallen gasped.
"We can?"Naoto said in surprise.
"But Zero, if we don't support the Special Zone, then aren't we going against equality and freedom?"Diethard asked.
Lelouch shook his head.
"Not exactly. I don't intend for us to do anything to sabotage Euphemia's Special Zone."Lelouch answered."Beside the Emperor, the upper class of Britannia wouldn't allow for something like this zone to exist for too long either. The existence of a special zone itself actually threatens the safety of other colonies."
"In addition, Britannia won't ever allow any form of self-government to its conquered nations."Rin informed in a firm tone."Then again, I haven't heard that no one inside the Empire is actually planning to support Euphemia in her attempt to help the Japanese. Not even Cornelia."
"That makes more sense."Senba agreed.
"So this Special Zone really can't help the Japanese even if Euphemia thinks it can?"Chiba suggested."We won't need to disarm."
Rakshata removed her kiseru pipe from her mouth.
"If that's true, then who exactly was the one who actually gave Euphemia approval to her plan?"Rakshata questioned.
"It was likely the 2nd Prince and Prime Minister of Britannia himself."Tamahome retorted."Schneizel el Britannia."
"Beside being a charismatic snake, Schneizel was always a negotiator."Rin scoffed, remembering seeing the 2nd Prince of Britannia in her childhood."Euphemia could never have talked or gotten support from the Emperor of forming her special zone, so it's obvious that she would go to Schneizel and he would agree with her idea since he knows it would tear our organisation apart."
"No doubt he is thrilled at this moment that he found a way to finish us off."Naoto snarled.
"Unlike Cornelia, Euphemia is young and inexperienced."Tohdoh commented before looking at Lelouch and Rin."But it seems you two learned that there are many flaws in this zone of hers."
"Indeed we have, Sensei."Rin chuckled.
A smile of approval appeared on Kaguya's face as she clasped her hands together.
"I think it's best if you both explain to us a bit more as well as the Black Knights' goals for the future."Kaguya requested.
"Gladly, Lady Kaguya."Lelouch answered with a small smirk.
The Next Morning…
In a room, where the Ganymede was standing, Nina was sitting on the floor and listening to the radio near her as well about the Special Zone with a scared look on her face.
"The Specially Administrated Zone of Japan is the first attempt of its kind in Britannia, and was personally proposed by Her Highness Princess Euphemia."the female Reporter said."This youthful inspiration was an idea from her school years. It has not only caught the homeland's attention–"
"If Princess Euphemia thinks it's a good idea, then even I have to."Nina commented with a fearful look.
At the the Government Bureau…
Cornelia was in a video chat with Schneizel, who was back at the homeland for some business to take care of.
"Euphie really is amazing, isn't she?"Schneizel remarked."Now the terrorist groups in Area 11 will lose their popular support and fall apart. Public order will be stabilised."
"I personally oppose this."Cornelia declared.
"But since you understand the situation, you've sent Darlton and Nonette to advise her, have you not?"Schneizel asked.
"To ensure public policy stays on track."Cornelia complemented dutifully."It's a measure that a Viceroy would obviously take."
"Hmm, did you approve her future plans as the Viceroy or as her older sister?"Schneizel questioned.
Cornelia paused at the question, remembering the news she had heard earlier that day from a call from the mainland.
In another room, Nonette was drinking a cup of coffee while Gino and Anya spoke to her.
"Nonette, do you seriously think this is a good idea?"Anya asked with an unsure tone and holding her phone."Princess Euphemia giving rights to the Elevens? Especially, inviting Zero and Shade with her Special Zone? Doesn't this go against everything Britannia stands for?"
"To me it sounds like a good idea."Gino remarked."If Zero and Shade disarm by joining the Special Zone, this won't only mean the fighting will stop. The big terrorists surrender, the little terrorists will shake and quake and disappear."
"That's mostly true, Gino."Nonette agreed smugly and thought."Not only that, Lelouch and Lynn will give up on their pointless quest to wipe out the Empire. I'll make sure to tell Viscount Rossellini and Adeline of their and Nunnally's survival tomorrow after the ceremony."
Near the Tokyo Settlement…
Kallen and Rai (wearing their casual clothes) walked together in a sidewalk and looking at one of the huge screens that reported about Euphemia's Special Zone.
"Rai, I don't like this."Kallen declared.
"Neither do I, Kallen."Rai commented."But after what Lelouch and Rin said to us, it seems that Princess Euphemia's Special Zone is not really the end of the Black Knights."
"It's not that, Rai."Kallen stated while gripping the side of the bridge."I mean about leaving my mother here in Japan."
Rai glanced at Kallen.
"Kallen…"Rai started.
"I don't want to leave my mother here in prison and neither does Naoto."Kallen informed sternly."I should stay here and find a way to bring her out."
"Your mother is sentenced 20 years for using Refrain."Rai complemented with a sad frown and remembered his own mother."But of course you would want to help her. There is only woman that can give birth to you so that you can live and raise you to your best potential. It would be a bad thing to not do that."
Rai suddenly felt Kallen place her hand onto his and give a soft squeeze to it.
"It's not your fault what happened to your mother and your little sister."Kallen assured."I'm sorry. I didn't mean to make you feel depressed."
A small smile appeared on Rai's face.
"No. It's okay."Rai assured firmly and smiled confidently."What I learned from my mother is as long as there is life, there's always hope. The soon as we beat the wretched Empire that is crushing all parts of the world, all of us will live a better life we deserved. Including the people we care about."
"Yeah."Kallen chuckled lightly."You're right about."
Just as it seemed Kallen and Rai were about to kiss, their moment was ruined when they heard someone shouting.
The duo looked down and saw a young Japanese boy on the street, his hands covering his head, as a Britannian nobleman, beat him with his cane.
"I don't care about your Special Zone! I don't care about support!"the nobleman growled."I'd sooner die than sign that!"
Both Kallen and Rai glared with angry looks at what they were seeing.
"That swine."Kallen retorted.
"It seems not all Britannians are happy of having the Japanese not to be treated as dirt."Rai muttered.
The nobleman kept hitting the Japanese boy.
"You think you're equal to us now?!"the nobleman yelled, holding his cane back from the groaning boy on the ground."The lower classes should simply obey their betters without any back talk!"
Then Lelouch and Rivalz walked forward to help the Japanese boy.
"There it is."Lelouch responded, making the people nearby turn to him and earn the nobleman's attention."That's the true nature of the sub-viceroy's benevolence."
"What do you want?"the nobleman snarled.
"Doesn't it feel good to look down from above?"Lelouch scoffed with a frown."It is rather like being a god."
The nobleman's larger security guard stepped before Lelouch, placing a hand on his shoulders.
"Hold it, schoolboy."the security guard ordered."Just back off."
"I think you should go home right now."Lelouch ordered.
Lelouch activated his Geass and the security guard fell under its influence.
"Yeah, okay, I will."the security guard answered."Well, I'd better get going."
The security guy walked away causing the nobleman to get more angry.
"Huh?! What did you say to him?!"the nobleman demanded and glared at his security guard."Come back here at once!"
"What's wrong, you Sir Nobleman?"Lelouch sneered."Confusing borrowed power with your own ability is a big mistake, you know. Garbage like you should simply die and be thrown out where no o–"
Lelouch suddenly winced, closing his Geass eye just as Rivalz ran up beside the nobleman.
"Alright already, let's break this up."Rivalz insisted and smiled at the nobleman."Mister, why don't you apologise? What do you say?"
"Apologise?!"the nobleman growled in annoyance."You insolent whelp–"
"Go away!"Lelouch demanded with a deadly glare.
The nobleman scoffed and walked away as Lelouch and Rivalz brought their attention on the Japanese boy.
"Um…thank you very much."the Japanese boy thanked.
"It was nothing."Lelouch assured with a smile.
Rivalz looked at Lelouch.
"That was impressive, Lelouch."Rivalz praised.
"I couldn't stand by and do nothing."Lelouch replied.
At the bridge, Kallen and Rai smiled at what they saw their leader did.
"It seems Lelouch now knows he can help people without even being Zero."Rai chuckled.
"Yeah."Kallen agreed with a small smile."Though his Geass is quite worrisome."
"I have Geass too, Kallen."Rai reminded."But you know that me or Lelouch will never attend to use and cause harm to any of our allies, right?"
"Of course."Kallen chuckled simply."You're totally right."
At Mount Fuji…
Darlton threatened Kirihara, saying that if he doesn't break off support from the Black Knights, he will lose the sakuradite mines.
"The N.A.C., or rather, Kyōto, as it's known among the terrorists. Tomorrow, after the ceremony, why don't you dissolve your group and leave Mount Fuji? We can talk about a legal agreement If you hand over the mining operation to us peacefully."Darlton sneered."Of course, that will mean the end of your support to the Black Knights. Whether Zero and Shade comes tomorrow or not doesn't matter. With this, those two's downfall is assured."
Kirihara glared at Darlton and gripped on his cane in anger.
But when he looked at the view of Mount Fuji, a small smirk secretly sprung on his face.
"Don't underestimate your former prince and Tohdoh's prized pupil."Kirihara thought."Things will not go as you hope for. Especially, what those two are going to announce tomorrow."
At Ashford Academy…
Lelouch met up with Rin in his room and told her what occurred when he was outside with Rivalz.
"It seems my Geass will be going haywire anytime soon."Lelouch complemented.
"If that's true, then you're going to have wear a contact lense too cover up your Geass, Lelouch."Rin suggested.
"Yes, Rin."Lelouch agreed with a nod."Otherwise with my Geass out of control now, I can never see anyone."
Rin went up to Lelouch and embraced him.
"Don't say that, Lelouch."Rin complemented."I will remain at your side no matter what."
"I know you will…il mio angelo."Lelouch sneered in a purring tone.
"Watch it."Rin giggled.
Rin then placed her hands on Lelouch's face before planting her lips onto his as he wrapped his arms around her waist, bringing her body close to his.
The couple then stopped their passionate kiss and looked at each other in the eyes.
"Ready to tell Nunnally?"Rin asked.
"Yes."Lelouch said with a nod."Let's do it."
Lelouch and Rin then held his hands with each other as they made their way to the dining room where they saw Nunnally playing a Hanafuda card game with Sayoko.
"Hey, Nunnally."Lelouch greeted.
"We're back."Rin chuckled.
"Hi, big brother and Rin."Nunnally greeted."Miss Sayoko and I are playing a traditional Japanese game. Though I have to guess which flower card she is presenting me."
"That's awesome, Nunnally."Rin chuckled."Actually the name 'Hanafuda' actually means 'flower cards'. The deck of 48 cards is divided into twelve suits of four cards each. Each suit represents a month of the year and has an image of a flower or plant connected to that month."
Nunnally giggled at Rin's respond.
"Rin, you're very intellectual when it comes to things from Japan."Nunnally remarked."You and big brother are perfect for each other."
"Indeed they are, Miss Nunnally."Sayoko agreed.
Lelouch looked at Rin with a mischievous smirk.
"Without a doubt."Lelouch replied with a smug look.
"Though the only difference, you're only big brains and barely can run a full lap."Rin joked.
Lelouch rolled his eyes before he notice something near on the table where Nunnally sat.
It was a piece of their mother's commemorative knighthood plate, when she and Lelouch were still living with the Britannian Imperial Family.
"Nunnally, that plate…"Lelouch started.
"It was one of the gifts that Euphie gave me before we taken to Japan."Nunnally remarked."I also remember this plate it was one of the last happy memory of our childhood before everything changed. I've learned the world is not always such a gentle place it can be very cruel. But I believe in Euphie. I know she can make the world a gentler place."
A sad smile appeared on Rin's face.
"Nunnally believes that Euphie is working towards a peaceful world."Rin thought and frowned a bit."But that's not true, if the Emperor is planning something that will ruin her plans."
Lelouch glanced at Sayoko.
"Sayoko, would you make us some tea?"Lelouch requested.
"As you wish, Master Lelouch."Sayoko answered with a bow.
Sayoko headed off to make tea as Lelouch and Rin sat down next to Nunnally.
"Nunnally, there's something that I've been wanting to tell you for sometime."Lelouch declared.
"Huh?"Nunnally said in confusion.
"It is something very important that you should know about me and Lelouch, Nunna."Rin commented.
"Well, you're certainly doing this sooner than most."Nunnally said sadly."But everyone's different, aren't they? So I suppose it isn't that strange. And if you two feel like you're ready for…"
"Hold on, Nunnally."Lelouch interrupted with a hint of confusion."What are you saying?"
"You and Rin are planning to get married."Nunnally admitted."Isn't that right?"
Dumbstruck looks appeared on Lelouch and Rin.
"It has come quick, but I am happy for you two."Nunnally assured."I give you my blessing."
"Oh no, Nunna. It's not that at all."Rin chuckled, finding the guess of her boyfriend's sister adorable."Me and Lelouch are a couple, but we're not planning to get married yet or anything like that."
"What we're going to tell you it's important, but has nothing to do with marriage."Lelouch assured.
"Oh!"Nunnally gasped and looked down as her cheeks turned a bit red in embarrassment."I'm sorry. I didn't mean to-"
"It's fine, little sister."Lelouch responded."Besides, me and Rin have still a whole long way to go before bended knee to the altar."
"So what is it that you and Rin want to tell me, big brother?"Nunnally asked.
Lelouch glanced at Rin, who nodded at him before the former prince let out a sigh before he gently took Nunnally's hand.
"For starters, I am Zero, Nunnally."Lelouch declared.
"And I am Shade; Zero's right hand and co-leader of the Black Knights."Rin admitted.
There was now a deathly silence in the room after the responds of Lelouch and Rin.
"Lelouch…Rin…you two are Zero and Shade."Nunnally sobbed as tears started flowing down her closed eyes."All this time you two were them."
"I'm so sorry, Nunnally."Lelouch apologised with a regretful tone."I've tried the best that I could to ignore the pain and suffering that I've been seeing around us. But I couldn't keep ignoring it."
"The same with me."Rin stated with a sad frown."After Japan was invaded, I only had Kaguya left while everything else we had were ripped away from us. Our relatives. Our home. Our freedom. All of this was taken from so many people in this foreign land while the Empire brought its own rule here to sink us deeper into dirt for their own twisted great pleasure."
Lelouch and Rin began to tell Nunnally everything starting from the Battle of Shinjuku as well as other things such as C.C, Geass…and the truth behind Marianne's murder.
Nunnally gripped her hands tightly as she took in everything she learned.
"I…I can't believe it."Nunnally declared."This is a lot to take in."
"Forgive us, little sister."Lelouch responded."I know you didn't want neither me or Rin to get involve in such a dangerous task. But-"
"It's…it's okay, Lelouch."Nunnally assured."I'm actually shocked and amazed that you were able to gather so many followers against our father's Empire. But did Clovis really have to…"
Lelouch shut his eyes at the mention of Clovis.
"I know. I wish there was another way."Lelouch replied."But Clovis ordered the deaths of countless people just to hide the inhuman project that he was involved in and didn't have any remorse at what he did."
Nunnally then looked down in thought.
"And V.V, our uncle was the one who killed our mother and our father knew this whole time."Nunnally responded with a hint of anger."But mother's spirit is hiding in someone else's body, who saw everything happen on that night. I really don't know what to think of all this."
"Me neither, Nunnally. Mother was the one who loved and cared for us."Lelouch stated."But hearing that she had a Geass power that made her escape death, this changes a lot of things."
Rin walked forward and bent down to hold Nunnally's other hand.
"Nunnally, I understand that you wanted us to live a simple life with our friends here in Ashford Academy. But this world is filled with such corruption and evil that needs to be wiped out."Rin stated."Neither of us can't ignore and watch countless others that are less lucky than us suffer from those that abuse their power."
"I…I understand you and big brother's intentions, Rin."Nunnally declared."You all desire world peace for everyone. Not just for our friends. It's just…it's a lot to take in."
"I know and I am sorry for that, Nunnally."Lelouch apologised.
"But Lelouch, Rin, if Suzaku learns that you two are Zero and Shade-"Nunnally started.
"We don't know how to help Suzaku, Nunna."Rin informed with a frown."He is too much filled with his self-righteous beliefs. Me and Lelouch have tried to help him try and see no matter how rotten Britannia is, he can't change it. But he won't listen to reason."
"Maybe I can help him?"Nunnally suggested.
"You can try."Rin insisted and then scoffed."Though first he has to admit his own mistakes, if he decides to move on."
Nunnally nodded and then looked at Lelouch.
"Lelouch, if we ever end up finding the person that our mother's spirit is hosted in…I actually want to talk to her again."Nunnally admitted."I miss her so much."
A small smile formed on Lelouch's face.
"I understand, Nunnally."Lelouch answered.
Rin bit her lip, but didn't say anything.
The Next Day…
The opening ceremony begins to take place and the Special Zone becomes jam packed with Japanese, but the news was skeptical that Zero and Shade will show up.
On the stage there were the Six Leaders of Kyōto sitting on the chairs while Euphemia and Darlton sat on the other chairs next to them.
Of course, there was military personnel on guard, not just Sutherlands, but the personal Knightmares of the Knights of the Round.
"We're bringing you live coverage from the stadium where the inaugural ceremony will be held for the Specially Administrated Zone of Japan."A female reporter apologised."The place is already packed full with Elevens–sorry, I mean with Japanese. And those unable to get in are gathered outside the stadium."
"Lesley, you think Zero and Shade will show up here?"Another reporter asked.
"No."Lesley answered."And we've heard nothing about it at this time."
At the Vermillion Forbidden City…
The High Eunuchs were inside a conference room and were watching the Special Administrative Zone's inaugural ceremony from their large television monitor.
The eight men were wondering if Zero and his right hand would come to the ceremony.
"Will even Zero and Shade show up?"
"I seriously doubt it. What do you think?"
"If the data we have on the due is accurate, then I don't believe they will, either."
At the Sword of Akasha…
Emperor Charles watched the ceremony from a Thought Elevator with several cloaked individuals that belonged to the Geass Order.
At the Stadium that was near Mount Fuji…
Euphemia was feeling deeply sad as she stared at the two empty seats that were for Zero and Shade.
Even after what Suzaku told her about Lelouch and Rin not wanting to help with her Special Zone, she still decided to have seats being brought for the leader and co-leader of the Black Knights.
Since she didn't get any word for them, the pink haired princess realised that she'll just have to start the ceremony without them.
Nonette glanced at Euphemia.
"Euphie, did you get any call from them?"Nonette questioned.
Euphemia shook her head.
"Nothing, Nonette."Euphemia answered."Suzaku told me yesterday that they're not going to offer their support."
A frown appeared on Nonette's face at hearing what Euphemia just said.
"So those two don't still understand when to quit."Nonette thought in disproval.
"Princess Euphemia, it's time."Darlton informed.
Euphemia nodded at Darlton.
"Right."Euphemia answered.
Euphemia turned for a second to stare at the empty chairs, her eyes lowering in disappointment as she turned to face the huge crowd before her.
The pink haired princess then paused, however, when gasps rant through the crowd, her eyes widening as she found the source.
Above the sky was the Gawain floating above the stadium with Shade sitting on its left shoulder and Zero standing on its right shoulder with one hand on its head.
Suzaku glared at the wanted criminals of the Empire.
"Zero and Shade."Suzaku said with a frown.
The crowd were amazed to see Zero and Shade arrive at the Specially Administrated Zone.
"It's Zero and Shade!"
"Zero and Shade are here!"
Gino grinned at what he was seeing while Anya looked on with a blunt look on her face.
Euphemia immediately became happy at seeing her masked half-brother and childhood friend had agreed to come and help her with the Special Zone.
"They came after all!"Euphemia remarked.
A small smirked appeared on Darlton's face as he watched in Zero and Shade.
"You accept that you've lost?"Darlton sneered.
Kirihara just looked at Zero and Shade in concern as the Gawain headed closer to the stadium.
"Well done, Lelouch and Lynn."Nonette thought in approval."You both agreed to dispatch from the path you're following and now realised it is pointless."
Euphemia extended both arms out in an open greeting as she spoke to Zero and Shade.
"Zero and Shade, welcome to the Specially Administrated Zone!"Euphemia declared.
"Greetings, Euphemia li Britannia."Zero replied."Thank you for inviting us."
"It's an honour to be here."Shade admitted.
At Ashford Academy…
Nunnally, Alice, Milly, Rivalz, Shirley and Nina were watching the ceremony in the room of the Student Council.
"Something major has happened here, ladies and gentlemen!"the male reporter informed."Zero and Shade have just appeared in the open! Under Princess Euphemia's direction, they are moving toward the ceremony!"
Meanwhile…
Cécile and Lloyd watched the broadcast from the Avalon's main screen.
"I'm afraid something is going to happen."Cécile stated worriedly."We should've gone there like I thought."
"What for?"Lloyd asked brightly."It's not as if we had a choice in the matter; everyone said that if Lancelot was there waiting, Zero and Shade wouldn't show."
At the Stadium that was near Mount Fuji…
The Gawain touched down behind the stadium before Zero and Shade jumped off it.
Euphemia went over to Zero and Shade.
"I'm so happy that you both came."Euphemia remarked in joy."For a moment, I thought you two wouldn't come at all."
Euphemia then gestured to the empty seats that were for Zero and Shade.
"Now if you two-"Euphemia started.
"Princess Euphemia. Both me and Shade are grateful that you're trying to bring peace here in Japan by making the Japanese and the Britannians to live in unity."Zero assured."But I'm afraid, we won't be taking part of the ceremony."
This caused Euphemia and everyone else in the stadium to be shocked by Zero's declaration as this was broadcasted life.
"Hold on!"Shade scowled sternly, earning everyone's attention."This doesn't mean we're against the Special Zone. Zero simply said that we will not take part of the ceremony."
This caused Darlton and Nonette to stand up from their seats.
"Why not?"Nonette questioned.
"You two realise just basically said that you're against equality."Darlton commented.
"I can assure you that we are not against, General Darlton."Zero assured firmly and glanced at Euphemia."Princess Euphemia, may I ask you something?"
"You may."Euphemia said with a nod.
"This Special Zone you said will give the opportunity that the Japanese people to be treated as equals, is that correct?"Zero assumed.
"Of course."Euphemia answered."And I was very clear when I made that announcement."
"But what gives you the exact idea that all Britannians want the Japanese to be their equals?"Shade questioned.
"Huh?"Euphemia said in confusion.
"You know that neither the nobility nor the military would really allow something like this."Shade explained."While the creation of a Japanese autonomous zone would improve the relationship between the two nations, it would lead to more problems within the Empire."
A surprised look appeared on Euphemia's face.
Did Shade just say her Special Zone would cause more problems?
"What do you mean it will create more problems?"Nonette scoffed with a glare."Would you care to explain that."
"Japan isn't the only nation that wants independence from Britannia, Lady Enneagram."Zero informed."The existence of a special zone itself threatens the safety of other colonies. If this works out, other numbers would have demanded the same and the Britannia inner system would start to collapse if it was allowed. Britannia wouldn't really allow any form of self-government to its conquered nations. Especially, since your Emperor is someone who regards Britannia as superior to other lands and not all men are created as equals."
A look of disbelief appeared on Suzaku's face.
"I didn't know that."Suzaku thought.
Darlton glared at Zero and Shade in suspicion.
"So what is it that you two are trying to say?"Darlton questioned.
"Part of the reason that me and Zero came to this ceremony is to say that we're planning to leave Japan."Shade admitted.
Everyone in the stadium gasped in pure shock at Shade's announcement.
"Zero and Shade are leaving?!"
"I don't believe it!"
"That's absurd!"
"They can't do that!"
"W-Wait, you two and the Black Knights are planning to leave Japan?"Euphemia said in worry.
"Our goal is not only to free Japan from Britannian rule, Princess Euphemia. It's all other nations that are suffering from the wrath of the Empire."Zero declared."Then again, there are other Japanese people beside Honorary Britannians, who see the Black Knights' presence as troublesome. Not just your Knight, Kururugi."
Suzaku frowned at Zero.
"For once I agree with you."Suzaku commented.
"But Zero and Shade."Euphemia spoke up."You two don't have to leave. There are people that see you all as Japan's Saviours."
"We're aware of that, Princess Euphemia."Shade assured simply."But for their safety, we'll remove ourselves from Japan, so that your Special Administration Zone won't suffer by our presence."
"I hate to admit it, but that is a wise choice."Darlton complemented."You're also admitting your appearances are also troublesome."
"That I have no objection on."Zero responded."Princess Cornelia does see us as direct threats."
"Then again, you don't have to really leave."Nonette informed.
"Oh really, Lady Enneagram?"Shade asked, sounding offended."And here I thought you wanted Princess Euphemia's Special Zone to succeed without any trouble."
Nonette glared at Shade.
"There is no need for all you know."Euphemia assured with a weak smile.
"Your concern is appreciated, Princess Euphemia li Britannia."Zero assured in a firm tone."But we are just solving a problem with rationality and avoiding conflict."
"In case, you still don't understand, but we live in a world where war has become the norm. Britannia expands at the expense of the blood of innocents and no one tried to fight against it until Zero and the Black Knights."Shade stated."But surely you both understand that, General Darlton and Lady Enneagram since you two are usually in the frontlines."
Both Darlton and Nonette glared at Shade upon what she just said.
"If Zero and Shade, the Special Zone will be successful and peace will really return to Japan."Suzaku thought in approval and the frowned."But we can't underestimate Zero and Shade. If this is not the end of the Black Knights, they'll probably have more tricks up their sleeves."
"Lelouch and Rin, why are you doing this?"Euphemia thought."This was supposed to be bringing us together again after so long. Why ruin it?"
A determined look appeared on Euphemia's face.
"Zero and Shade, may I request an audience with you?"Euphemia requested.
"Princess Euphemia that-"Zero started.
"We should hear what she wants to talk about, Zero."Shade insisted."I see no harm in that."
"Very well."Zero answered.
"Thank you."Euphemia thanked.
Then Zero and Shade were met Britannian military officers, who wanted to check if they had any weapons on them causing the masked individuals to raise their arms up.
The guard brandishes a metal detector to scan for anything that Zero and Shade posses such as a handgun.
However, no beeps or any scans of haywires were heard.
"They're clean."the guard announced.
Zero and Shade lowered their arms.
The security guard gave a nod as a bright smile appeared on Euphemia's face.
"Then this way please."Euphemia requested.
Euphemia started to walk toward the G1 Mobile Base before Suzaku suddenly spoke up.
"Princess Euphemia, it's too dangerous to be alone with this man and his most trusted partner."Suzaku warned."As your knight, I request that you allow me to accompany you to safety."
Euphemia turned to Suzaku with a smile.
"No, it's alright."Euphemia assured."Please just trust me, Suzaku."
Suzaku could only stare at her in defeat as he gave a slight nod of acceptance, glancing at Zero and Shade in suspicion as they followed Euphemia.
In Pendragon…
Carine ne Britannia, the 5th Princess of the Britannian Imperial Family, scowled in annoyance as she took another bite from her tea sandwich while sitting with her older half-siblings, Prince Odysseus eu Britannia and Princess Guinevere de Britannia.
"Just what the hell is Euphemia doing?"Carine grumbled in annoyance."Giving filthy Elevens rights? That is the most stupid thing I have ever heard."
"It can't be helped, Carine."Guinevere retorted with a frown."Euphemia was always the naive type. To think she would encourage with Clovis' murderer with her puppet stadium."
An unhappy look appeared on Odysseus' face.
"Guinevere, Carine, you two must not say such awful things about Euphemia."Odysseus responded."And Area 11 is on the path to peace."
"No, it's not, Prince Odysseus."A female yet strict voice said.
Odysseus, Guinevere and Carine looked to the entrance of the room and saw two Knights of the Round; Adeline Rossellini (the Knight of Eleven) and Monica Krushevsky (the Knight of Twelve).
Adeline Rossellini was an attractive twenty year old girl with long light lavender hair down with a single braid on her left side that was tied with a black ribbon, pale skin and copper orange eyes. She wore a dark purple collared blazer jacket with six brown buttons over a zipped up long-sleeved white blouse and brown tie. She also wore a black short skirt, equally knee-high light white socks with heeled knee-high black boots.
Monica Krushevsky was an eighteen year old girl with straight amber blonde hair that was tied into two pigtails at the front with red strings and cobalt blue eyes. She wore the typical white uniform of the Knights of the Round along with a cape; her's was predominantly a light green one with gold accents.
"Lady Rossellini and Lady Krushevsky."Odysseus responded.
"Regardless what Euphie intends to do, my cousin is utterly foolish to think she can bring something on a conquered foreign land that will just bring shame and disgrace to our country."Adeline retorted."Just what Prince Schneizel is thinking to give her support on her dull-witted plan without getting Cornelia's permission first?"
"Cornelia was always the one with a strong prejudice to those that are non-Britannians."Odysseus reminded."I doubt she would refuse with Euphemia, if she told her plan on creating the Special Zone in Japan."
"But what has the Emperor said about Princess Euphemia's plan?"Monica asked.
"His strongly against it and requests Cornelia to return to him for explanation on Euphemia's actions."Guinevere admitted and her frown deepened."This mess would've been avoided if Cornelia killed Zero by the moment after she became the new Viceroy of Area 11."
"I totally agree."Carine agreed brightly and then scoffed."It looks like the Goddess of Victory is not that strong as she appears to be anymore."
Adeline frowned at the 5th Princess of the Empire's comment.
"Just what is up with my cousins these days?"Adeline thought with a suspicious look as she fiddled with the gold locket that had the photo of her younger half-sister Lynn as a five year old girl inside."First, I hear Cornelia and her Royal Guard are struggling to fight off Zero and the Black Knights. Now Euphie all the sudden establishes the worthless zone to bring fake peace to former Japan. Just what is going on?"
Back in Area 11…
Euphemia headed inside the G-1 Mobile Base accompanied by Zero and Shade.
After removing his mask, Lelouch began fiddling with a few buttons before the windows reverts to pitch dark, turning off all the lights and illuminating only the emergency lights.
"Even though the cameras are off, you're still being extremely careful."Euphemia giggled."Aren't you?"
"I've been in hiding for a long time due to a certain Empire I'm afraid."Lelouch complemented."So we can't take any chances."
Rin took off her mask as well before glancing at the pink haired princess.
"So what is it that you wanted to talk about, Euphie?"Rin asked.
"Lelouch and Rin, tell me the truth."Euphemia insisted simply."Do you two think my idea on the zone is such a bad idea? And please don't try to lie to make me feel better."
"Very well, Euphie. We'll tell you."Lelouch replied."Euphie, your Special Zone has good intentions, but there also some things wrong with it."
"To be clear, it won't truly help the Japanese as you hope it would."Rin commented.
"It won't? How can that be, Rin?"Euphemia questioned."The goal of the Special Zone is to help people and the Japanese will be able to have rights again."
"Yes. But here are the problems with it."Lelouch answered."Despite the rights and privilege that were once stripped of the Japanese after they became Elevens following Britannia's invasion were to be returned to them, there are many Japanese people that will still be treated cruelly because they are not part of the Special Zone themselves."
"Secondly, when you said the Special Zone to be formed around Mount Fuji, this means only piece of land in Japan will support the civilians. Even though they are many various other places in Japan such as Osaka, Nagoya and Yokohama."Rin added."But seeing plenty of Japanese people out there in the stadium would also mean a lot of houses to be built for them to live in the Special Zone. In other words, it also mean an overtaxed system to come very soon and there won't also be enough room to support the new people that want to join the SAZ. Also, it will take years to tackle down the poverty and disease that that the people suffered from living in the ghettos. How would you expect to pay for all of their treatment?"
Euphemia became utterly dumbstruck at Lelouch and Rin's declarations, never expecting to hear these things.
"And another thing. We've seen many civilians thrilled to be once again able to call themselves "Japanese" and be considered equal to Britannians. Even able to fly the Hinomaru flag alongside the Britannian flag."Lelouch stated."But do you really expect many Britannians appreciate seeing this and wouldn't dare to try cause a massacre to sabotage your Special Zone?"
"I…I…I…"Euphemia stuttered, struggling to find an answer.
"Moreover, Euphie. Answer this question."Rin complemented."What does your father, the 98th Emperor of Britannia encourages others to do in conquered foreign lands?"
Euphemia thought for a moment before responding to the brunette.
"Well…he actually encourages them to kill other people in order to rise to power, and still engage in global conflict as the Emperor, even if it resulted in the deaths of countless innocents or even Britannian soldiers."Euphemia explained."He is also a cynical man who believes that struggle and conflict are natural to humans, believing not at all in their kindness."
"Good answer."Lelouch praised with a frown."And what do you think he'll do if somebody such as one of his children try to bring peace to a conquered foreign land?"
"Father doesn't really believe in bringing equality or peace to any place because every time someone heard him make a speech, they were racist and hurtful."Euphemia replied."So that also means-"
Euphemia paused herself from talking as a horrible thought came into her mind.
No one inside the Empire supported her in her attempt to help the Japanese.
Not even the Emperor.
So this meant he or someone from nobility would find a way to sabotage it.
"Oh no."Euphemia said in shock before covering her mouth."What have I done?"
"I'm sorry, Euphie."Rin apologised with a sad frown."But the Special Administration Zone of Japan that you established is nothing, but a conceptual Britannian puppet state that will eventually become a river of blood caused by a certain Social Darwinist, who believes that the strong are worthy to rise or other corrupted noble ranked mad people that will attempt to destroy your reputation and have you labelled as a monster."
Tears began to appear in Euphemia's eyes in guilt.
"I can't believe all of these problems were right under my nose and I didn't even see it."Euphemia sobbed."I thought I was actually doing something good, but instead I just created something will eventually make things worse here in Japan."
Lelouch moved his gloved hand to wipe away the tears in Euphemia's eyes.
"Euphie, don't cry."Lelouch said with a caring smile, earning his half-sister's attention."No one is perfect. Not even a princess."
Outside the G-1 Mobile Base…
The people in the stadium were wondering what Princess Euphemia was talking about with Zero and Shade. There were some among the audience a bit murmuring whether taking part in the SAZ was actually a good idea.
Inside the Gawain, C.C stood waiting for Zero and Shade to come back out with Euphemia.
"Lelouch, you were supposed to be the one to grant my wish. But it seems that you won't be thanks to Lynn, who has changed you for the better."C.C said with an amused look."More than another of your admirers ever could."
Suzaku stood outside the room where Euphemia was meeting with Zero and Shade, just before the Gawain.
"What could Euphie be possible talking to them about?"Suzaku questioned impatiently, completely concerned about his girlfriend."Then again, if Zero, Shade and the Black Knights leave Japan, peace will come here and no more blood will be spilled."
Gino and Anya walked up to Suzaku.
"Hey, Suzaku."Gino greeted."Is Princess Euphemia still inside with Zero and Shade?"
"Yeah."Suzaku said with a frown."She is."
"How very strange that she considers having an audience with the masked that murdered Prince Clovis."Anya stated bluntly.
Suzaku let out a sigh.
"If Princess Euphemia says to trust her, then I have to obey her wishes."Suzaku complemented.
At the Vermillion Forbidden City…
Xingke was in a room listening to the news report of the Special Administration Zone of Japan with Xianglin and Hong Gu.
"It's like Professor Chawla said."Xianglin commented."It seems that Zero and the Black Knights have really found a way out of this situation."
Hong Gu glanced at Xingke.
"Are you going to inform the Empress about this?"Hong Gu assumed.
"Indeed, I will."Xingke replied with a nod."Empress Tianzi has taken a liking to Lady Shade and is eager to meet her."
Inside the G-1 Mobile Base…
Euphemia continued speaking with Lelouch and Rin.
"There'll probably be a formal announcement issued by the homeland about it any day now, but I've given up my claim to the throne."Euphemia admitted.
Surprised looks appeared on Lelouch and Rin's face.
"You gave up your claim to the throne, Euphie?"Rin said in surprise.
"But why?"Lelouch questioned."Why would you give up your royal title?"
"It's obviously the price to pay for doing something that opposes our father's ideology."Euphemia remarked."But I also did this for Nunnally."
"For Nunnally?"Lelouch said in surprise.
"She told me herself."Euphemia replied kindly."All I want is to be with my brother and my friends. That's all that matters. I want nothing more."
"That's all?"Rin questioned.
"Yes, Rin. That's how I made up my mind."Euphemia complemented."It made me stop and seriously reflect on what was truly important to me in life. Do you two understand now? I'm not giving up anything that has significant meaning or real worth to me. Though…I see now it was a pointless thing for me to do."
"Euphie…"Lelouch started.
"Hey, if you renounced your claim to the throne, this also means you can come attend Ashford Academy."Rin requested with a smile."The Student Council is so much fun."
"Attending Ashford Academy? That sounds nice."Euphemia replied and her expression saddened a bit."But it won't be that much fun…if you two and Nunnally aren't going to be here."
Both Lelouch and Rin give Euphemia a small smile.
"It's for the best that we leave, Euphie."Lelouch stated.
"That way the SAZ won't attract trouble if we are around."Rin commented.
"Even though it is still doomed to fail?"Euphemia assumed.
Neither Lelouch or Rin responded to the pink haired girl.
"Even if you two will leave, I'm still going to try my best."Euphemia informed firmly."I will make sure to take my responsibility seriously on the Special Zone. Even though it will receive little success."
"Just do your best, Euphie."Lelouch insisted.
"And if you happen to get in trouble, we'll be standing by."Rin assured with a wink.
"Right."Euphemia answered.
Lelouch and Rin then placed their masks back on before stepping back out into the sunlight with Euphemia.
Suzaku immediately walked forward followed by Sarah and Paul (Euphemia's guards) to check if the pink haired princess was alright.
Zero and Shade stood close to each other as Euphemia playfully swats Suzaku's hand away.
"I'm fine, everybody."Euphemia giggled."I understand Zero and Shade's intentions. They are free to go and wished me luck that the Special Zone will become successful."
Suzaku stared incredulous and a bit angry while the guards just seem understandably shocked.
"Princess Euphemia, you can't be serious."Suzaku retorted."Letting the most wanted criminals of the Empire leave Japan would mean-"
Euphemia glared at Suzaku.
"First, no one, not even you as my knight can tell me what I can do and what I can't do. Second, I gave up my title as Princess."Euphemia admitted."Thirdly, Zero and Shade's ideas and goals aren't wrong, just the way they achieve them through is not the best. But both of them showed they care of Japan's future."
"But still-"Suzaku started.
"Kururugi, I have a question."Zero responded."What does it mean to be Japanese? A nation. Is it language? Territory? Bloodlines?"
"Not at all."Suzaku said with a frown."It's…it's in the heart."
"Then we're in agreement. A feeling within."Zero stated."A belonging. Dignity. Pride. The culture is carried in the heart. You're Japanese no matter where you are."
"It's the same for those in the Black Knights. No matter who or where they're from, they'll always have a place of belonging to where they're from."Shade complemented and her voice became a bit strict."You're Japanese yourself, try to see it from our point of view. Stop being so stubborn."
A glare appeared on Suzaku's face as he stared at Shade.
"We are in an agreement then."Euphemia replied kindly before looking at the two masked individuals."Zero and Shade, I'll do the best I can to help the Japanese people."
"We have no doubt that you won't, Princess Euphemia."Zero assured.
"We wish you the best of luck."Shade remarked.
At the Sword of Akasha…
Emperor Charles growled in frustration and clenched his fist in anger.
The 98th Emperor of the Holy Britannian Empire was not pleased how things were going on.
First his older twin brother kills his beloved and lied to him that he had nothing to do with it.
Now his prodigal son and his rebellion was now becoming a real problem to him.
All because of that girl.
It's because of her that C.C was no longer was his ally.
It's because of her that Lelouch was no longer the way he was before.
It's because of her things were not going according to plan.
V.V then walked up to Emperor Charles.
"You wished to see me, Charles?"V.V asked.
Emperor Charles looked at the view in front of them.
"I thought that girl meant to be an opportunity for my foolish and inexperienced son of mine to sow his wild oats."Emperor Charles said with a glare."I never expected him to develop feelings."
V.V raised an eyebrow and smiled in amusement.
"Oh my. This is unexpected."V.V sneered."How do you plan to get rid of her?"
"We first will start with Euphemia's ridiculous Special Zone."Emperor Charles declared in a cold tone."Prepare your test subjects."
Nunnally learned now that Lelouch and Rin are Zero and Shade. Also, the couple have made peaceful terms with Euphemia, but Emperor Charles attends to sabotage the SAZ. Though it's really sad that in the Canon, Lelouch never thought about the complete real problems that Euphemia's Special Zone would actually bring and would've found another yet better way out of it, if his judgement wasn't utterly clouded entirely by vengeance on his father and destroying Britannia. Anyway, see you all in the next chapter and have a wonderful new year:)
