-Chapter One Hundred and Fifty-Three-

"It's too bad we'd have to leave the gold behind, but our lives are more important" Usopp sighed.

"I'm sure all but one or two of us can agree on that statement" I hummed, boredly playing with a loose strand of thread on my clothes as I leaned back against the wall behind me. Thankfully I had been able to finally switch that nurse's dress out for a skull and crossbones tank top and a pair of black bell bottoms that draped over my feet and hid the sandals I wore.

"You're the captain, Luffy—what do you think?" Chopper curiously asked.

"We need to get our gold, but I need to get something to eat first" Luffy answered.

"I heard ya—give me a sec and I'll whip something up..." Sanji grumbled, dismissively waving off our captain as he stood.

"Um...the storeroom looked kind of empty" Usopp pointed out.

"There's got to be something left to eat around here" Sanji said, ignoring the sharpshooter as he started to look around inside the refrigerator.

"Just so I understand you correctly, you guys are okay with us leaving this place without our gold?" Nami frowned as we nodded. "Well, that's too bad...cause you know, pirate treasure is always divided up—even after splitting up the loot, we'd all have more gold than we'd know what to do with it" she grinned as she tried to tempt us into changing our minds. "Just think of all the stuff we could have bought."

"Hey, wait! I want to go and buy some stuff!" Usopp shouted, quick to perk up to the idea of being able to buy whatever he wanted.

"Like what?" Nami curiously asked.

"I'll tell you what I want to buy—a big gold statue!" Luffy grinned, quick to raise his hand in an attempt to catch everyone's attention.

"Weren't you saying you wanted a bronze one last time?" I questioned, raising an eyebrow.

"I changed my mind, I want it gold now" he laughed.

"Oh! Nami, over here! I want to buy a bunch of new medical books—ones that'll teach me all the latest medical procedures and operations!" Chopper excitedly exclaimed, cutely waving his hoof in the air in an attempt to catch the ginger's attention.

"New pots, frying pans, silverware, giant mousetraps...wow! Even after all that, there'd still be a lot leftover!" Sanji grinned as he counted off everything he wished to buy. I couldn't help but giggle upon hearing the word "mousetraps," already knowing who those were for.

"I could buy lots of booze" Zoro grinned.

"Or pay off your debt to Nami" I teased, laughing when my head was lightly shoved.

"Oh yeah? What would you buy?" he asked.

"Don't know" I shrugged. "I guess sweets?" I eventually hummed after a moment of thought

"Sweets? Why sweets?" Usopp blinked, curiously tilting his head.

"They were always such a rarity growing up and back on the island, I never could afford any since the money we made working at the restaurant always went toward either groceries or other such necessities" I explained. "It would be nice to finally self-indulge in the treats I rarely get to try" I concluded, stomach growling a little at the thought of being able to try all the fancy sweets I'd catch others buying.

"Skylar, I'll make you as many sweets as you want!" Sanji cooed, causing me to chuckle.

"That's sweet of you, but you really don't have to do that" I dismissively waved, not comfortable in asking the blond to do such a thing—he already did enough of that for us girls on his own. It wouldn't be right to put more work on him by personally asking him to indulge my sweet tooth. "Other than that, I'd probably just buy more books like Chopper" I said.

"Right!" Nami nodded with the clap of her hands. "But first, I take an extra cut—eighty percent" she suddenly revealed.

"Are you nuts?!" everyone shouted, shocked that she planned on taking so much of the money for herself.

"It's not for me!" Nami snapped.

"Oh yeah, then who? Why should they receive a bigger share than the rest of us, huh?" Usopp frowned.

"It's for a special lady—we're going to set aside the gold to pay for the repairs we need to make" Nami winked, causing everyone to immediately settle down and smile once we realized who exactly she was putting the money aside for.

"A lady?" Luffy frowned in confusion. "Oh! Wait, you mean the Merry!" he brightened.

"That's right—isn't it about time we pay her back for all she's done for us?" Nami nodded.

"Well, come to think of it, the Going Merry has carried us for a long time now—hasn't she?" Usopp smiled. "Ever since I joined up and left my village in the East Blue" he reminisced.

"We've had so many adventures" Nami blissfully sighed. "Lots of good times, so many memories" she grinned as she thought back on our past adventures.

"Hey, don't forget the Merry was also with us when we crossed that crazy Reverse Mountain and burst into the Grand Line" Zoro said.

"She was also with us during that pretty wild adventure in Laboon where we also met Vivi for the first time" I nodded, grinning as I recalled the giant whale that had greeted us the minute we had entered the Grand Line.

"Don't forget Sky Island" Sanji piped up from the stove where he was busily cooking.

"Yeah, I even risked my life to save it when it was carried to Upper Yard!" Chopper firmly nodded.

"Yeah, and then that mysterious someone fixed the ship for us" Usopp said. "I saw somebody, I swear!" he quickly defended when he saw the skeptical look the others were giving him, still not too sure if he really saw what he claimed he had seen that night in the Upper Yard.

"When you think about it, this ship's gone through a lot for us" Luffy smiled.

"She certainly has—she's one tough cookie" I hummed, giving the wall behind me a gentle pat.

"And that's exactly why we need to give her some tender, loving care" Nami grinned.

"Good idea, the Going Merry's Great Repair!" Usopp agreed.

"Let's do it!" Luffy cheered.

"It's settled, and since we don't know how much the repairs will be, we'll just hold off dividing up the treasures until we do" Nami said, already quick in making it clear that the money will not be touched or spent until after we gave Merry the needed repairs that she so rightfully deserved.

"That's a good idea" I nodded.

"Those goons took all the food from the storeroom, but lucky for us, they didn't touch the fridge" Sanji said as he started to set down plates of food. "Here, dig in."

"Hm, I've been wondering how much longer Usopp's half-assed repairs were going to last" Zoro hummed as we ate.

"Hey, I'm a sniper, not a shipwright!" Usopp defended. "But yeah, Mekao said the same thing—it needs professional repairs" he heavily sighed as he couldn't help but agree with the swordsman.

"Yeah, right—it's time we took the Merry to a real shipyard and got some honest to good shipwright to give her the repairs she needs" Sanji nodded.

"So there are people who can fix ships better than Usopp?" Chopper innocently asked.

"Yep, sometimes when you need the job done right, you got to go see a professional" Usopp nodded.

"Sometimes it's for the best to get professional help when it's for something you really care about" I smiled. "There's only so much an inexperienced person can do by themselves."

"That's it" Luffy said as he suddenly stood up. "We got to get a shipwright for our crew—our journey is far from over, right?" he asked, causing us to nod in agreement. "We really need someone with those skills and the Merry isn't just our ship, she's our home too, so let's go find us a shipwright that can keep the Merry safe" and with that, he sat back down and went right back to eating.

"Well, I'm impressed" Sanji admitted.

"Whoa, he got to the point" Zoro said, sounding just a little surprised by how straightforward our captain had been. "That's pretty rare" he noted.

"Well, that sounds really good to me, Luffy—let's do it" Usopp smiled.

"Uh...that's what I just said" Luffy responded, confused as to why the sharpshooter was just repeating back to him what he had just said.

"I just hope we can find somebody good" Usopp sighed.

"We should get a musician too" Luffy quickly added.

"Let's forget that one" Sanji said.

"I think a musician sounds great" I chuckled. "It'll help liven the place up even more" I smiled.

"The shipwright's a great idea, but haven't you all forgotten something?" Nami asked.

"What's that?" we asked.

"We have to get our gold back first" she calmly pointed out.

"Oh yeah, right" Luffy nodded as if he just now remembered that little fact.

"Well, do we have any idea where they may have taken it?" Zoro asked.

"To a vault, I bet" Usopp suggested.

"Well, duh, genius" Sanji rolled his eyes. "Where else? The problem is we have no clue where that vault may be" he said.

"Hey, you don't have to be rude" Usopp frowned.

"I would have to say that the vault would need to be in a place that's tightly secured to lessen the chances of intruders robbing them" I said. "Or it could be in the head honcho's office, one or the other" I shrugged.

"I'd say here" Robin suddenly piped up, catching our attention as we curiously looked down at the area of the map she was pointing at. "It's just a guess—of course—but if I were to hide gold in Navarone, this multi-lock storage vault seems like it would be the ideal place."

"You're so smart!" Sanji swooned in praise.

"You're right, that does seem like the most obvious place" Nami grinned. "Alright, guys! Let's go burst into that vault and get our gold back!"

"But what do we do about the Merry?" I asked. "We can't just leave her here, she's sure to get spotted eventually" I pointed out.

"Hide a tree in a forest and a big ship among big ships" Luffy shrugged.

"So that's your big plan?" Zoro questioned as our heads drooped downwards.

"I think I like you better when you weren't so serious..." Sanji grumbled.

"I don't know if it'll help or not, but we are at a dock where ships used to be constructed and repaired" Robin smiled.
