-Chapter One Hundred and Fifty-Seven-
"Hey, all set up here!" Chopper shouted up to us from below the deck as Nami, Robin, and I got the octopus ready.
"Roger! Everything's ready—it's all up to you guys now!" Nami nodded as she peered down below deck where all the men were gathered in an attempt to help Usopp in setting off the Impact Dial.
"I feel sorry for Usopp—you sure it was the right thing to force him to be the one to use the Impact Dial?" I worriedly asked, starting to second guess if it was right to force him to do something so dangerous despite knowing that Luffy or Zoro could handle the force of the blast a lot better.
"Ah, he'll be fine—it'll help build character" Nami dismissively waved, not a hint of guilt in her body over what we were making the sharpshooter do. "Just stay focused, we can't mess this up" she said as the ship suddenly and violently shot up into the air.
"Robin! Hurry, now!" Chopper squealed from below the deck.
"Well, let's do it" Nami sighed. Robin used her Devil Fruit powers to stretch out the octopus' tentacles around the ship as Nami and I pointed two Breath Dials upward toward the octopus—attempting to blow air into it and inflate its head once more.
"We're still falling!" Luffy shouted when he saw that the ship was slowly starting to fall back down.
"Luffy, the Flame Dial!" Nami called over to him.
"Your time to shine, captain!" I shouted.
"Gotcha!" he nodded, positioning himself right underneath the octopus as he used the Flame Dial to help inflate it as quickly as possible like a hot air balloon.
"Come on..." Robin quietly urged as she joined in on blowing air into the sea creature, silently praying along with the rest of us that this bizarre plan of ours would work.
"Please fly! Please fly! Please fly!" Nami desperately chanted.
"I rather like living at the moment, so please fly" I begged, sounding almost genuinely in my desire to live at this very moment.
"I said fly, so do it now!" Luffy scowled as he continued to blow flames into the octopus, his jaw clenched as he tightened his hold on the Flame Dial in his hand.
"You can do it, come on!" Chopper encouraged the octopus just as the ship started to get a bit too close for comfort near the water. "Now, fly!" he shouted.
"Come on..." Robin urged.
"Please—fly!" Nami pleaded.
"You can do it" I softly encouraged.
"You can fly!" Luffy shouted before grinning as the octopus finally inflated all the way and began to carry the ship upwards into the sky and away from the water. "Yeah, we did it!" he happily cheered just as the Marines started to open fire...only to miss each time until finally, we passed over the mountains and began to float away from the Marine base altogether. "Whoa! Look at the size of that place!" the captain gaped as he peered back at the fortress we were now leaving behind.
"It thought it looked big on the inside" Chopper awed.
"Strange that a place so big was getting so many budget cuts..." I muttered as I peered back.
"Well, so long, old fortress guy!" Luffy waved with a laugh.
"Love you, Jessica!" Sanji cooed, causing me to raise an eyebrow as I now wondered what he had been doing the entire time he was inside the base and separated from us all.
"Um...guys? Not to complain or anything, but why aren't they shooting at us?" Usopp curiously asked when he noticed that the Marines were no longer firing at us.
"That base was designed to repel and attack by sea, its cannons can't target this high" Robin explained.
"I doubt any Marine base that isn't HQ can aim this high" I said. "Considering how most of this world is covered in water, I doubt they ever thought someone would try to escape by taking flight."
"This sure is nice, I wonder how far we'll fly" Chopper smiled, happily humming to himself as I leaned back against the ship's railing and peered up.
"Well, Zoro?" Luffy asked.
"Who knows? Ask the balloon..." Zoro grumbled with a shrug.
"Yeah" Luffy nodded as I raised a questioning brow.
"Why'd you ask a dummy like Zoro?" I questioned, giggling at the light shove I received from the swordsman as Luffy simply shrugged in shoulders, now wearing that silly grin of his.
"Who are you calling a dummy?" Zoro lightly frowned.
"See, you can't even tell when I'm talking about you—whatever are we to do with you?" I dramatically sighed as I rested my head against his shoulder.
"Oh yeah? Well, how far do you think we'll fly?" he raised an eyebrow as his lips twitched upwards into an amused grin.
"How am I supposed to know? You know I'm stupid" I grinned with a shrug, causing him to snort.
"Then we should sit back and enjoy the ride" Robin suggested with a smile
"Guess, we'll just have to leave everything to fate right now" I hummed.
"I just hope that it's not another Marine base..." Nami grumbled, causing me to chuckle.
"I'll go anywhere if Nami, Robin, and Skylar are there!" Sanji cooed, causing the swordsman beside me to scowl as he tensed at the other man's fawning. "I'm in paradise!" the blond swooned.
"Moron..." Zoro irritably grumbled.
"What's that?!" Sanji snapped.
"You heard me—bring it on!" Zoro growled as already the two were starting to pick a fight.
"Ah, how long has it been since you two last got into an argument? A day or two?" I hummed.
"While you guys beat each other up, I'll fix the haul" Usopp said, walking away from the arguing men as he made his way below deck.
"Hey, hold on—I never got my dinner!" Luffy suddenly frowned at this realization. "Sanji, food! I'm starving!" he demanded.
-Later-
"Already asleep, I see..." I quietly mumbled as I poked at the sleeping swordsman's cheek with the tip of my marker. "How unfortunate...at least you look peaceful..." I felt my lips twitch when he continued to snore, barely stirring at all. Now in a casual camo shirt and jeans, I quietly hovered over the swordsman and gently started to drag the tip of the marker across his face while he slept.
"So how's the bearing looking? We good?" Sanji asked.
"It's perfect" Nami grinned, giving the blond a thumbs up to assure him everything was alright.
"Just like you, Nami-swan!" Sanji cooed, hearts dancing all around him as loving stared at the navigator.
"Skylar?" Nami suddenly questioned, raising an eyebrow when she finally looked over at me
"Hm?" I hummed, just barely raising my head as I looked away from the swirls that I was drawing all over the swordsman's cheeks. "Yeah? You need something?" I asked.
"What are you doing?" she curiously inquired, peering around me to look at the sleeping swordsman...only to instantly choke back a laugh at what she saw.
"Oh, nothing...nothing at all..." I innocently smiled as I put the lid back on the marker and leaned back so that I could admire my handy work. They were simple drawings—nothing more than swirls on his cheeks, a circle with three lashes around one eye, and lastly, hearts and stars and dots drawn in random places as if to show just how bored I had gotten halfway while drawing over his face. I giggled at the silly sight before me that heavily contrasted with his usual grumpy face he was always wearing. "Hey, Luffy, come here" I grinned as I called out to the captain.
"Yeah?" he asked, curiously wandering over and peering over my shoulder before bursting out into a fit of laughter the minute he saw my masterpiece which startled the swordsman.
"What are you laughing at?" he yawned.
"Your face!" Luffy howled with laughter as Nami covered her mouth and quickly looked away, body now trembling with barely contained laughter of her own.
"My, you're quite the artistic type, Miss Swordswoman" Robin chuckled as Zoro raised an eyebrow before narrowing his eyes the minute he looked toward me and saw the marker in my hand.
"What?" I innocently asked, haphazardly tossing the marker behind me as I started acting as if I hadn't done anything wrong. Bringing a hand up, I watched as he roughly rubbed at his face—carelessly smearing the marker around in the process as he did so. "I wouldn't do that if I were you" I choked back a laugh, trembling as he pulled his hand back and blankly stared at the smudged ink that now stained his palm. Clenching his jaw in realization, I finally broke at the harsh glare he sent me as I fell back with laughter.
"Why you—"
"It's out" Luffy suddenly cut the swordsman off as our attention was quickly drawn to the Flame Dial that had finally died.
"Fuel burned out, huh?" Zoro questioned while attempting to wipe off the rest of the ink from his face before looking down at Usopp and Chopper who were currently below the ship and attempting to repair it. "Hey, Usopp, we're going down!" he called down to the two.
"Better come back up if you don't want to be crushed" I added.
"Just hang in there, octopus balloon" Luffy said, climbing up the mast as he now held a lighter underneath the octopus as if that would help to keep it inflated.
"Get down, moron!" Sanji snapped as the octopus finally deflated and we started to rocket back down toward the sea. Scrambling for safety, Usopp and Chopper hastily climbed aboard the ship just as we roughly slammed down into the water. Everything was still after that as no one dared to move, all of us silently attempting to process what had happened and how exactly we were still alive after such a rough and impromptu landing. Shakily, I started to stand before yelping when I was suddenly dragged back down onto Zoro's lap.
"And where do you think you're going?" he irritably growled. "Just because we fell from the sky, doesn't mean you're going to get off that easy for that little joke of yours" he scowled, showing that the fear of falling from the sky hadn't diminished his anger for my little stunt at all.
"W-what joke? I...I never pulled any joke..." I nervously laughed, feigning innocence as I desperately clawed at the arm around my waist and held me in place. I squealed the second he suddenly pushed me onto my stomach and laid me across his lap. "What are you—" I yelped as my face flared up in embarrassment the minute I felt a sharp stinging sensation suddenly travel across my ass. "What are you, a pervert?" I silently cried, scrambling off of his lap and frantically looking around to make sure the others weren't looking only to sigh in relief when I saw them distracted by the octopus and the daze they were in from the sudden fall.
"What are you, a child?" he quickly shot back, causing my blush to darken. "Who draws on someone's face while they're sleeping?"
"Who whips someone's ass just because they drew on your face?!" I embarrassingly snapped, rubbing my bottom. "How would you like it if I spanked you? Huh?" I asked.
"I'd like to see you try" he snorted as if he found the idea funny.
"You're right, I'd probably break my wrist trying to hit something so flat" I suddenly teased, a grin now tugging at my lips as I watched how he started to sputter at the sudden jab. I knew his ass wasn't actually flat, but the stunned and almost offended look on his face at such a remark was enough to draw a snicker from me.
"Skylar, I'll do it again if you don't behave" he threatened, causing me to childishly stick my tongue out and begin to pout all while hastily scooting back and away from him due to knowing that he'd probably follow through with such a threat if I continued. "You're such a child" he snorted when he saw my pout, gaze softening just a little as he watched the way that I huffed and opened my mouth to respond.
"That was way too close..." Usopp weakly groaned, unintentionally interrupting me as he and the others finally started to come out of their dazed states now that they realized they were still alive and breathing. Slowly, everyone started to stand as they checked to make sure that everything was truly alright with both them and the ship.
"That should help get rid of the sting" Chopper smiled as he finished patching up one of the octopus' tentacles that had gotten hurt during the fall.
"That's two times now you've helped us out of a real tight spot" Luffy grinned as he picked up the cephalopod and tossed it into the sea. "Thanks, buddy!" he waved.
"Thanks again for all your help!" Chopper happily waved as the octopus waved back as well. "I hope you make a lot of friends out in the Blue Sea!" he shouted as we made our way over to the ship's railing to say our goodbyes. I grumbled as I rubbed at my bottom which still felt a little sore from the hash smack it had been given earlier, silently throwing a small glare in Zoro's direction as he only turned his head the other way—attempting to act innocent and like he hadn't done anything despite the obvious grin on his face.
"Stay strong and don't take any crap from those Grand Line octopi" he called out to the octopus.
"Be safe" I sweetly smiled as I waved toward the leaving cephalopod.
"You travel safe, sushi platter" Sanji waved.
"Nice nickname..." I sweat dropped.
"Careful out there!" Nami shouted. "Thanks for everything!" she smiled with a wave of her own.
"Now then—set the sails, off we go! Let's find the next island!" Luffy grinned, already throwing out orders as he was ready for us to start a new adventure.
"Whoa! Hey, calm down, Luffy" Usopp said, quick in trying to get the captain to settle down a little from his obvious excitement. "Can't we rest a little while?" he asked.
"You're a little too relaxed!" Nami snapped. "Listen, that attitude isn't going to get us very far on these seas" she scolded.
"I don't think I want to hear this..." Usopp muttered, not really in the mood to be lectured.
"The waves look a little too strange for comfort, so it's back to work" Nami said, ignoring him as she turned away. "Turn to port!" she ordered, falling back into her role as the ship's navigator now that we were back on the sea and had full control of our ship once more.
"Anything for you, Nami dear!" Sanji fawned before blinking when very huge waves suddenly started to make their way toward us out of the blue.
"You see!" Nami squealed as Chopper and Usopp started to freak out the moment they spotted the waves.
"Full speed ahead!" Usopp cried.
"This doesn't look good for us!" Chopper wailed.
"There's something in the wave—is that debris?" Sanji frowned, attempting to decipher whatever it was he spotted moving in the waves just as the ship was harshly pushed from behind and violently shoved forward.
-The Next Day-
"Seems pretty calm now..." Sanji panted as the morning sun began to rise.
"All night...we had to deal with that all night..." I tiredly groaned, running my fingers through my wet locks that had become dampened due to all the water that had been thrown onto the ship during our attempts to get away from the vicious waves that had been chasing us all throughout the night. Closing my eyes, I took a moment to find some form of comfort in the sounds of the cawing seagulls that flew by.
"It's too soon to lower our guards" Zoro said, causing me to groan once again as I flopped back onto the deck, raising my hands to press them against my face as I sucked in a sharp breath of air through my nose and released it all in one heavy sigh.
