-Chapter One Hundred and Sixty-Nine-
"Because they want you to get mad so you'll butt in and do something stupid" Usopp explained.
"We just got to grin and bear it, Luffy" Nami huffed.
"We can't do anything rash that might make us lose the match before it's even over with—we need to win this" I frowned. "Besides, I prefer if we didn't prolong this match any longer than it already is—it's clearly outstayed its welcome..." I muttered, glaring at the Groggy Monsters.
"The preparations are complete, all that's left now is to sit back and enjoy the carnage! Whatever happens from here on out, don't blame me!" Itomimizu announced. "Anyway, it looks like they're going straight for the Ball Man" he noted as Hamburg and Pickles rushed Sanji, Pan following close behind. "Unless he acts fast, he'll be grounded and pounded, sliced and diced, trapped, and stuffed into a hamburger patty!"
"Alright then—if you want a cooking battle, well you got one" Sanji scowled. "I got to warn you, I've never cooked scumbags before, so I can't say how it'll turn out" he spat before lashing out, doing multiple backflips and repeatedly kicking Hamburg in the face until the primate fell back with a startled cry that was cut short by the blond smashing his foot into his stomach. Right when it looked like he was finished, his assault quickly picked back up as he kicked the monkey into the air and struck his back multiple times.
"Ooh, that's got to hurt" I winced as a small grin tugged at my lips upon witnessing the continued attack until finally, the blond sent Hamburg flying.
"Stop crushing!" Pickles frantically cried as Hamburg flew between the two pans that Pan was mindlessly smashing together. "No, Hamburg!" he winced as the monkey was crushed between the two pans—weakly groaning in pain before unceremoniously crashing to the ground when the Wotan pulled the pans apart. Angrily growling, the larger man turned toward Sanji and sneered. "You're going to pay for that!"
"Hold up, fatty, you forgot about me" Zoro glared as he stepped in front of the man's attack.
"Out of my way, small fry! I'll cut you!" Pickles threatened as he brought one of his swords down, only to be sent flying back toward Pan by Zoro, causing him to slice up the giant instead of his intended target.
"Oh no! Say it ain't so—Big Pan has fallen victim to Pickles Spinning Blade Attack!" Itomimizu gasped.
"Somebody help me! I can't stop spinning!" Pickles screamed, already starting to grow panicky and queasy as Pan's body slowly started to tilt back—the pain now getting to him as he was knocked off balance by his fellow crewmate's attack. Sanji hastily slid right underneath him, striking his back so hard that he was instantly straightened back out on his feet once again.
"What?! Not only did they knock Big Pan down, they knocked him right back up too!" Itomimizu gaped in amazement. "Although Big Pan is indeed on his feet, I'm not sure he has any idea where he's at right now—to make matters worse, Pickles is looking pretty dazed himself! Team Foxy is in a pinch!" he nervously proclaimed, shocked by this sudden turn of events when just mere seconds ago his crewmates were ruthlessly beating on the two. "Uh-oh! Now Zoro from the Straw Hats is charging in—will he be able to overcome Big Pan in his state of confusion?"
"You're not getting passed me!" Pickles growled as he protectively stood in front of the dazed giant with both his swords out. He didn't make it long before he suddenly cried out as Sanji came up behind him and struck his back—sending him flying across the field and toward the referee.
"I've had enough of your crap and that goes to the Ref too!" Sanji snapped.
"The crowd—or rather the Ref—takes a direct hit from the flying Pickles! Did Sanji have an ulterior motive perhaps?" Itomimizu asked.
"You did that on purpose...didn't you...?" the referee weakly groaned as he crawled out from underneath the unconscious Pickles. "Red card!" he sneered before being taken aback when he realized the thing he was holding wasn't a red card. "Huh? Wait a second—my whistle and my cards are gone!" he gasped in realization.
"You're such a naughty girl" Robin chuckled.
"Nice work" I giggled.
"What can I say? Old habits die hard" Nami grinned, pulling the referee's cards out from inside her shirt as the whistle dangled from her neck. Proudly did she show off her stolen goods, pleased to know that she still had it in her to swipe what she wanted without others noticing until it was too late.
"Oh! This is bad—here they go again with victory in their grasp!" Itomimizu gasped. "The Straw Hats turn on each other, how strange..." he curiously remarked as Zoro suddenly rushed Sanji who lifted his leg and helped kick the swordsman up toward Big Pan the second he jumped onto the outstretched limb.
"Oh wow..." I felt my cheeks grow just the tiniest bit warm as I watched in amazement as the swordsman grabbed hold of Pan's upper lip and used nothing more than raw strength to drag the giant down with him.
"Incredible! Big Pan's airborne!" Intomimizu gawked.
"What?!" the crowd gaped, shocked that someone so small could pull the giant down with nothing more than his mere strength.
"No way!" Porche gasped.
"The massive Wotan Warrior..." Itomimizu muttered in disbelief, just as baffled as the rest of the crowd by this sudden turn.
"Alright!" our crew began to cheer as the giant finally started to near the goal.
"It can't be!" someone in the crowd cried in distress as Zoro smashed the Wotan's head into the goal and finally ended the game.
"Goal!" Itomimizu shouted—excitedly repeating the word over and over as the rest of the crowd stared on in shocked disbelief. Stunned that they had lost despite how well their team had been doing—despite the fact that their team had viciously beaten ours almost to an unconscious and bloody pulp. It was as if they hadn't expected Zoro and Sanji to get back up after such a harsh beating and, to an extent, I couldn't blame them as my own fear had made me think the same there until the end.
"Whoo! Yeah—way to go!" Nami squealed in delight.
"Yeah!" Luffy cheered. "Alright, we won! We won!" he laughed as he danced alongside Usopp.
"I'm so happy!" the sharpshooter cried out in happiness.
"Yeah! You did it!" I laughed, excitedly clapping my hands as I jumped around—laughing when the captain suddenly threw his arm around me and dragged me into his and Usopp's cheerful dance.
"You won!" Chopper cried, happily cheering alongside the rest of us from the other team.
"Aw! No fair!" Porche whined. "He's mine—you can't have him!" she childishly pouted as she possessively held the reindeer close.
"Zoro! Sanji! Thank you!" Chopper sobbed, ignoring the young woman holding him as the crowd suddenly started to go wild. Now cheering alongside the rest of us once their shock had finally subsided into pure awe despite their loss.
"Awesome! Those guys are awesome!"
"Bravo! Bravo!"
"Aw, man! I'm moved to tears!"
"Get your best in the third round too!"
"Shut up!" Foxy angrily snapped at the men in the crowd—quick to silence their praises as they clinked their jaws shut and grew tense with fear as if afraid of the lecture they were sure to receive. "Whose side are you on anyways, you traitors? I can't believe this—nobody has ever beaten the Groggy Monsters!" he angrily ranted.
"Oh! Hi, Ref!" Nami greeted when she saw the referee finally starting to regain some form of conscious awareness after having passed out at some point earlier. "Wakey, wakey—hey! You better make your call" she said, snapping her fingers when she saw the dazed look on his face. "Go ahead, here" she innocently smiled as she handed him his whistle back. "Here" she urged, practically shoving it in his hand.
"Oh, thank you" he nodded, still dazed and not fully aware of what was happening. "Yeah, that last one was a foul if I've ever seen one—he's out of the game" he huffed as he took the whistle and blew it.
"And that's the final whistle—there you have it, folks! The Groggy Ring match is officially over!" Itomimizu announced, causing the referee to look around in confusion as Chopper, Luffy, Usopp, and I started to joyfully cry. Happy to know it was official and we had rightfully won.
"Nice work, you're a real pro" Nami grinned, patting the confused man's back.
"It's the end of an era! The Groggy Monsters have finally been defeated as Kings of the Ring—our new champions and winners of the round are Zoro and Sanji of the Straw Hat Pirates!" Itomimizu proclaimed.
"What did you think would happen? Like our guys could ever lose to you!" Luffy cheekily laughed.
"Hey, Nami! Hey, Robin! Hey, Skylar! Was I great?!" Sanji asked as he wildly waved his arms in an attempt to catch our attention. "Huh?! Was I?!" he swooned, hearts floating all around him as he eagerly awaited to hear our praise for how good he had done during the game.
"You were just wonderful" Robin complimented.
"Yeah, the best..." I mindlessly nodded as I hastily rushed over to Zoro the moment I spotted him.
"You're nothing but a jerk! Don't scare me like that!" Usopp cried as he repeatedly hit the swordsman.
"Hey! Hey, stop!" Zoro snapped before flinching as he quickly caught me the second I flung myself at him. His hands instantly grabbed hold of my thighs as my legs wrapped around him. He did a small spin, stumbling before quickly regaining his balance as he firmly planted his feet on the ground.
"You scared me too, you jerk!" I cried, grabbing hold of his face and forcing him to look at me. "You know how terrifying it was watching your ass get brutally beaten like that?!" I tearfully sniffed before pressing a series of kisses all along his face, finishing it off by capturing his lips. Relief flooded through me knowing he was alright despite everything that happened.
"I'm sorry..." he mumbled once I pulled away and pressed our foreheads together. "But at least we won" he grinned.
"Yeah...we did..." I huffed a smile before perking up as I suddenly remembered something. "Oh! Hold on" I motioned, hopping down as I finally remembered the swords on my back. "Here you go, good sir!" I brightened as I removed them and held them out to him, my smile only growing as he took them and ruffled the top of my head in silent thanks.
"I'm so glad you followed my plan after all!" and just like that, the moment was ruined by Usopp's boastful claim. I had nearly forgotten about the rambling sharpshooter who had been lost in his little world of lies this entire time.
"You really think you had something to do with this?" Zoro sweat dropped as we turned our heads and blankly stared at the sharpshooter.
"Now, as I'm sure you all know, at the end of our fight our winners—the Straw Hat Pirates—can take their hard-earned prize" Itomimizu reminded everyone. "Will they take a member of Foxy's crew or will they take his Jolly Roger? Either way, it's up to their captain alone—now, drum roll please!" he ordered as the sounds of a drum began to play.
"Well, the choice is obvious, isn't it?" Luffy grinned. "Okay, I choose—"
