-Chapter One Hundred and Seventy-Five-
"Round four is about to begin!" Itomimizu announced as everyone started to get into place.
"Long time no see!" Jube laughed, taking his place next to Robin at the starting line. Completely unbothered by the way she ignored him.
"Ready...go!" Itomimizu called out just as the whistle was blown, causing the two to shoot off with Robin quick to take the lead. "That's twenty seconds—Defenders, go!" he announced once the twenty seconds were up and the second whistle was blown.
"Is…is he going to be able to do this?" Usopp nervously asked as we warily watched Luffy skate ahead, curious to know if he'd be of any help this round or not.
"God, I hope so..." I muttered, shaking my head as we started to skate after him right as he was reaching the first turn in the ring. I couldn't help but grin as I watched how he grabbed hold of the railing and swung himself around the turn—practically copying what he had seen Chiqicheetah do last round. "Well look at that, he can learn" I chuckled.
"Alright!" Nami grinned.
"Yes, yes! Way to go, Luffy!" Usopp excitedly cheered.
"Bring it on! I'd be happy to give you another taste of my Mucha Karamete!" Jube sneered.
"Oh no, you won't!" Luffy frowned as he skated after the Fishman—stretching out his arm and harshly punching him straight into the wall.
"Seems like he's getting the hang of it! Straw Hat Luffy seems to be flying!" Itomimizu proclaimed as the captain came to a stop right next to the knocked-out Fishman.
"Robin, keep going! I'll handle this guy!" he shouted, motioning for the older woman to continue the race while he kept watch over the unconscious Fishman.
"Right, thanks" Robin nodded as she continued to make her way around the ring—easily dodging the attacks of our opponents and breezing right through the course with no problem.
"Hey, my baton's gone!" Porche gasped as she frantically started looking around.
"What?" Jacob frowned. "Don't tell me you gone and lost the damn thing!" he irritably snapped.
"Sorry" Nami snickered, spinning the woman's baton around and proudly showing off that she had been the one to take it.
"What?! Give me that back!" Porche angrily snapped as Robin passed by her.
"Don't even try, I'd sit this one out if I were you" Luffy glared when he noticed the Fishman waking up—quick to stop him before he even had a chance to get up and rejoin the race.
"Okay..." Jube nervously nodded, deflating as he watched how his opponent skated past them.
"Astounding! The Straw Hat Dangers are on a roll—they've taken a one-lap lead!" Itomimizu announced.
"We'll see about that" Foxy growled. "Hamburg! Prepare for a full dash!" he suddenly ordered.
"Right!" the primate nodded, squatting down as he allowed for his captain to climb aboard his back.
"Usopp! Skylar! It's time!" Nami shouted.
"Yeah! Now, Operation: Laugh and Fall—are you ready?" Usopp asked.
"You know it" Nami nodded.
"Yeah, I guess" I shrugged, seeing no other reason not to help.
"Hey, Split Head!" Usopp shouted just as Foxy was ready to use his Devil Fruit powers. "You going to use your Slow Slow Doo Doo Beam?" he mockingly asked.
"Split Head? Doo Doo Beam?" Foxy depressingly muttered as he began to sulk.
"Don't make fun of him! He's handsome, intelligent, and wonderful!" Nami quickly defended.
"Clearly the ideal man any woman would want!" I firmly nodded, trying my hardest to keep the sarcasm out of my voice as Foxy shot right back up—sparkling as he proudly puffed his chest out upon hearing the praises being thrown his way...it was so painfully easy to stroke this man's ego.
"What?!" Zoro snapped as he turned his head.
"That stupid fox is anything but that" Usopp huffed, crossing his arms as Foxy fell into a depressive state once again.
"I'm serious about this! I'm head over heels in love with him!" Nami argued.
"I swoon every time I see him—he's so dreamy!" I dreamingly sighed as I subconsciously started to tremble upon feeling Zoro's intense gaze as he glared me down from across the field
"Skylar!" he angrily shouted, causing my trembling to worsen. I'll admit, just as there was something cute about his jealousy—there was something rather scary about his anger...granted, he wasn't nearly as terrifying as Nami whose stare I could already feel from beside me as if she was silently warning me of the consequences to come should I bail and potentially ruin this plan of hers.
"Do we...do we both have to compliment him...?" I quietly asked as I leaned toward her.
"You abandon me now and I will make you suffer" she coldly whispered right back, causing me to nod.
"Impossible! No one loves that crappy split head!" Usopp scoffed.
"Crappy split head?" Foxy depressively mumbled.
"Handsome!" Nami and I defended as I tightly grabbed hold of her arm the moment I spotted Zoro stalking toward us—his eyes narrowed and lips twisted downward into a displeased scowl as if upset that I would dare think to compliment another man while in his presence. Let alone a man such as Foxy...granted, I can understand why someone would get upset and perhaps take insult upon hearing their partner compliment such a man like the opposing captain.
"Split Head!" Usopp shot right back.
"Wonderful!"
"Crappy!"
"Smart!"
"Lies!" Usopp snapped, causing Foxy to finally fall over in utter defeat as if he no longer knew how to feel at this exact moment due to the rollercoaster of emotions we'd just put him through. "Stupid, Split Head! You couldn't—Nami? Skylar? What are you doing?" he frowned when he noticed that we had stopped talking altogether. "You need to keep complimenting him" he reminded us.
"But...I can't...it's making me sick to my stomach..." Nami whimpered, showing that having to compliment such a man like Foxy was now beginning to take its toll on her. Perhaps she thought it would be easy at first, but now it was clear that just the thought of praising such a man made her sick to her stomach.
"Zoro's on his way here to give me a beatdown—I don't know if I can handle what he has in store" I trembled, eyes focused on the ground as my lips curled back into a wide smile. "His jealousy is so fucking cute..." I mumbled, raising a hand to cover my mouth as I tried so hard to bottle up my laughter.
"You think maybe we could switch it up?" Nami and I asked.
"Insult me?! How dare you!" Foxy angrily growled as he finally got himself sorted out.
"But there's nothing to compliment" Usopp argued. "It doesn't matter who says what—just keep repeating stuff!" he ordered.
"Got it!" Nami and I nodded.
"Split Head!" Usopp started to repeat.
"Manly!" Nami and I repeated alongside him.
"W-wait! I'm sorry—please, I have a wife and kids!" I squealed, flailing my arms as I was suddenly picked up from behind.
"Shut up! Who do you think you are flirting with another man?!" Zoro angrily snapped as he threw me over his shoulder, ignoring Nami and Usopp who shakily held their hands up in defense as he walked passed them before hesitantly going back to their plan once they knew they were safe from the swordsman's wrath. Instantly, my hands flew up to my flushed cheeks as I stared down at the ground with wide eyes through my spread fingers—neither of us really bothered by the announcement of my disqualification after suddenly being removed from the track by the swordsman.
"Your jealousy is so...so fucking cute..." I shook before laughing as the swordsman automatically dropped me and started to sputter as if embarrassed at being called out on his jealousy. "Admit it, you're a jealous cutie" I teased, giggling as his sputtering only got worse while the flush of his cheeks began to spread.
"I'm not cute!" he embarrassingly snapped.
"If that isn't the biggest lie I ever heard!" I grinned. "Would you prefer if I called you a handsome fella instead or perhaps a dreamy hunk?" I laughed upon seeing how red he was becoming, his blush only getting worse and spreading further as he quickly averted his eyes and grumbled. Neither confirming nor denying if he'd want to be praised in such a manner.
"It looks like the boss can't seem to find his Slow Slow Beam—seems this verbal assault from the Straw Hats has him to his knees!" Itomimizu announced as Foxy couldn't decide if he wanted to stand or stay on his knees thanks to Nami and Usopp's continued assault. "Times almost up…and there you have it, the Straw Hat Dangers win round four by a landslide!" I sucked in a deep breath, releasing it all in one big sigh as my laughter finally came to an end as the match finished.
"Looks like you're up" Zoro said, smacking my ass as I skated past him on my way toward the starting line. "Good luck" he grinned as I quickly whirled around with a glare.
"Don't just go smacking it all casually like that—we're in public, dumbass!" I embarrassingly snapped, hands now covering my rear as he quietly chuckled.
"Our Point Getters for round five are the Swordswoman Skylar Strife—oh how I get chills whenever I hear that name—of the Straw Hat Dangers and our very own hardheaded, overconfident, lady-killer Jacob!" Itomimizu announced as I finally took my place at the starting line. Taking what little time we had before the match began, I started to stretch out my limbs as I waited for the whistle to sound.
"So, you're my opponent? Well, this should be easy" Jacob snorted as he came to a stop beside me. He was a young man and rather handsome from his tall, muscular build to his slicked-back black hair and stumbled chin—I could understand why he was possibly seen as a lady killer by his own team. A man like him probably knew his way with words when he wanted to woo someone.
"Excuse me?" I felt my left eye twitch in annoyance the second I heard his mocking laughter as he tossed his head back.
"Petite, rather rough around the edges, and perhaps even a little pudgy—clearly you're not going to be much of a match" Jacob remarked, dark blue eyes roaming my body with a judgmental stare. He looked at me as if I was nothing but a piece of filth beneath his feet or a stain on his shirt—looked at me in the same way that they used to look at me. "At most, a woman of your size would probably make for a good little housewife...that or you could possibly make for a good fucktoy" he wolfishly grinned as his tame insult quickly turned derogatory.
"What was that?!" I angrily snapped, cheeks flaring up in embarrassment at such degrading words.
-Everyone's P.O.V-
"That's our Jacob, always antagonizing the opponents" Porche snickered as Nami tiredly groaned and dragged her hand down her face.
"Don't listen to him, Skylar! He's just trying to get under your skin—just focus on winning the match!" she shouted to the brunette who was currently glowering up at the man beside her. Sadly, her words only fell on deaf ears as the teenager suddenly burst out into a furry of insults—insults that the man was quick to return as the two leaned dangerously close toward one another until their foreheads were touching and spittle sprayed from their mouths. It was clear that the two of them intended to drag the other down with their harsh words before finally, they shot off down the track together the minute the whistle sounded out. Their shoulders practically pressed against one another as their voices carried throughout the entire track while they attempted to knock the other off course.
In a way, their words were amusing and it wasn't long before they had the crowd fired up and loudly cheering them on.
"Wow! It seems that Skylar and Jacob are currently toe-to-toe, and neither one looks like they're going to back down anytime soon!" Itomimizu exclaimed, slightly impressed as the two maintained a consistent speed no matter what. It was almost as if they were too busy wanting to get the last word in to even care about trying to pull ahead of the other.
"I don't know whether that's a good thing or a bad thing..." Usopp muttered.
"Quit arguing and focus on outskating him!" Nami snapped.
"Hey, it's just like you and Sanji, Zoro!" Luffy laughed, clearly finding some amusement in Skylar and Jacob's bickering—their insults clearly ranging from humorous and perhaps even a little ridiculous to...well, not so humorous...
"Oh yeah..." Zoro muttered, not the least bit amused by the sight before him. He clearly didn't like how close the two were, silently wishing that the older man would back off and just leave the brunette alone. Not only that, but some of the man's insults were enough to make his blood boil—he didn't exactly appreciate how degrading they were nor did he enjoy seeing the way the brunette would silently flinch and cringe away whenever a remark about her appearance was made before she'd snap right back. It wasn't long though before the verbal assault turned into full-on physical violence as the two Point Getters pulled away from each other before rushing right back. Smashing their left hands together first, halting the other's attempted assault which in return caused them to bring up their right hands.
Everything fell silent the second the edges of their palms scraped against one another, causing Skylar's hand to harshly smash against the older man's cheek and push his head. No one dared to move as Jacob's hand, in return, landed on the young woman's chest instead of her neck where he had originally intended to strike her. Instantly, they came to a halt, ignoring the sound of the second whistle that signaled the release of the Defenders as they now stared in shock at one another.
"Zoro! Sanji! Calm down!" Usopp frantically cried as he desperately tried to hold the two men back from rushing across the field and jumping the opposing pirate. It was deathly silent as the air around Skylar and Jacob grew thick with tension—both of them staring wide-eyed at the other in disbelief as they struggled to process what exactly had happened.
"How dare you lay such a perverse hand on Skylar, you freak!" Sanji snapped...though his anger could never really compare to that of Zoro's who was trembling with silent rage. Hand tightly clutching the handle of one of his swords as he glared daggers across the field at the raven-haired man whose hand had yet to move. Skylar slowly blinked once she finally registered what was happening before her cheeks flared up in embarrassment the minute she felt a painful and sudden squeeze on her breast as blood now started to trickle down Jacob's nose—his eyes not leaving her own as if he was frightened to really look down and see what he had done.
"Soft..." he quietly noted as he gave her breast another squeeze, admiring how it fit perfectly inside the palm of his hand.
"Wha...pervert!" Skylar embarrassingly snapped the minute she felt the second squeeze which fully snapped her from her dazed shock. Scrambling back and away, she lifted her leg and harshly kicked him in the stomach as hard as she could. Jacob groaned the minute he was struck—his body instantly flying back and smashing into the stands, causing the crowd to quickly clear out of the way. Gathering around their crewmate, the crowd began to murmur to one another as they stared down at the dazed expression Jacob now wore. His lips were tugged upward into a dopey grin as his eyes now shined brightly with what appeared to be lust while hearts and stars flew around his head in a dizzying circle.
"What a kick..." he dreamingly sighed, feeling the way his heart just skipped a bit at having been so roughly handled by a woman who he thought looked too weak to pack such a harsh kick.
"What's this? Jacob has already been defeated?" Itomimizu questioned, stunned that the match was already over so quickly. "Though he doesn't seem very upset about his disqualification—it seems the Straw Hats have once again gained another point, now putting them in the lead!"
-Skylar's P.O.V-
"There will now be a five-minute break before the final round begins, and remember, this next round will be worth two points to help avoid any pesky ties" Itomimizu reminded everyone as I angrily stormed my way back toward the others.
"Skylar, my sweet—are you alright?" Sanji worriedly asked, quickly rushing toward me. I only pushed him out of my way, not in the mood to really deal with him as I crossed my arms over my chest and huffed.
"The nerve of some men...fucking creep..." I grumbled as Nami patted my back once she walked past me.
"Let's just be thankful that he was distracted long enough to not react accordingly to your kick" Nami sighed, attempting to look on the bright side of things despite the embarrassment I had just gone through. "Amazing what a woman can do when flustered..." she muttered in amusement as my cheeks puffed up into a pout before I released it all into one big sigh, instantly dropping myself down into Zoro's lap once I reached where he currently sat.
"Comfort" that was all I could muster as I tightly wrapped my arm around him and buried my face into the crook of his neck. Automatically, he wrapped an arm around my waist and pulled me close. It wasn't long before I suddenly felt him grab hold of my chin with his other hand, tilting my head upward before pressing a gentle kiss to my lips.
"Better?" he muttered once he pulled away, pulling me back into a tight hug as I felt my cheeks grow warm once again.
"Yeah..." I muttered back, my embarrassment and frustration instantly melting away and being replaced by a sudden warmth that spread throughout my chest. I tightened my hold on him in return as I leaned into his hold, finding comfort in his touch as I closed my eyes for a moment in contentment.
"Aw! How cute" Nami cooed, causing the others to smile or chuckle as Sanji turned his head and irritably grumbled to himself. Clearly biting his tongue.
