-Chapter One Hundred and Eighty-Two-
"Hey! Knock it off, you two!" Nami angrily snapped.
"Wow...how unsurprising..." Skylar sweat dropped at the sight as Robin only offered a smile.
"Yeah, concentrate on the game!" Usopp shouted as he and Nami came to a rest, both now losing the energy to even try and keep up with the two up ahead.
"They're amazing!" Chopper awed, panting as he came to a halt right beside the two.
"Whoa! What the heck?" Luffy gaped. "How could you call that word out for so long, freaky old stilts guy?" he asked in amazement when he noticed that Tonjit was still going.
"He certainly has a set of lungs on him—I'd have already been on the ground out of breath if I held that word out for this long" Skylar chuckled.
"He makes an ideal stoplight" Robin remarked.
"Red" Tonjit said, finally switching over to the next word and holding it out just like he had with the other one. Skylar sweat dropped the minute she realized Zoro and Sanji had come to a stop and were now just fighting.
'I don't have time for this' Zoro scowled, his jaw clenched the second he saw just how far ahead the other team was. He refused to let their team lose just because of some idiotic blonde's savior complex when it came to women.
"The only ones to worry about from the Straw Hats team are those two" Pickles said, motioning toward the fighting pirates. "Let's knock them out of the game quick, just like planned" he grinned as he picked up a nearby boulder and threw it straight up into the air. Big Pan reacted as planned and quickly knocked it toward the arguing two.
"Oh crap! It's headed right for them!" Usopp frantically cried.
"The old man's about to finish his red light" Chopper pointed out in a panic.
"We don't have time to worry about that!" Nami shouted just as Tonjit finally finished.
"Quick, stop!" Porche ordered the second she saw the old man starting to turn toward them. But before he could complete his turn, Zoro had already sliced the boulder that had been sent hurtling toward him as Sanji kicked it back toward the two Groggy Monsters.
'If we move, we'll be out!' Pickles tensed in realization the moment he saw the two pieces of rock hurtling toward him and Pan.
"You're out!" Tonjit called as he watched how the two monsters were thrown back into the water by the pieces of boulders which in return created a huge splash that sent water flying everywhere. Water that had splashed into the air and rained back down on Jacob who had been leisurely following behind the two. Irritated, he shook his head and tried his best to comb his hair back into place after feeling his bangs fall right into his eyes. If he's being honest, he didn't really care what happened or who won—he was only on this crew because he had nowhere else to go, no family or home to return to. It had been a miracle back then when they had found him stranded in the middle of the sea on a rowboat, starving half to death and sunburnt
It's not that he hated the crew—no, the women were pleasing to look at and the men were easy to get along with. Despite how vastly different the life of a pirate was compared to his old life on a fisherman's boat, he felt right at home amongst Foxy's crew. But...when it came to these silly fights...he normally saw no reason to put that much effort into them since they always cheated their way to victory in the end. They never played fair to the point that it felt almost pointless to actually try and genuinely strive to win any of these matches...
Still...
Despite this, he couldn't help but be irritated with this particular pirate crew and how quick they were to fight back against their cheap tactics and other such tricks. Normally, most people just accepted them or gave up right on the spot once they realized there was nothing they could really do—but not these pirates it seems. Perhaps losing wasn't exactly something he enjoyed—perhaps actually having to take something as ridiculous as these games seriously wasn't something he wanted to really do. Whatever the reason, he found himself growing more and more annoyed the longer these silly little games got dragged out.
"An early upset to Team Foxy for Pickles and Big Pan, they've been knocked off the course and out of the game!" Itomimizu announced.
"Alright, Zoro and Sanji—way to go! Nice one!" Luffy cheered.
"Whatever! It's no big deal, we only need one person on Team Foxy to touch him for the win and it doesn't matter which one does it!" Foxy laughed, quick to brush off the fact that he had already lost two members for this round.
"Chiqicheetah, Hamburg, and Porche are in the front and have quite a significant lead over the Straw Hats" Itomimizu relayed.
"Oh my, that put me in a "we're totally going to win" mood" Porche smugly grinned as Hamburg burst out into a fit of laughter.
"Damn, they're way too fast!" Nami cursed as she realized that there was no way that she or the other two who were falling behind could ever reach the three who were currently in the lead.
"It looks like Zoro and Sanji are our only hope" Usopp sighed.
"Stupid moss headed sword swinger!" Sanji spat.
"Delusional love cook!" Zoro snapped.
"I'm warning you, I'm on a very important mission to rescue my sweet Robin and Skylar!" Sanji sneered, almost as if he had forgotten that they could only win one member back this round—forgot that the little deal Luffy and Foxy had made last round only applied to that one round.
"What do you mean your sweet Skylar?!" Zoro growled as his temper flared.
"If you do anything to get in the way—"
"Green" Tonjit said, unintentionally cutting the blond off as he switched to the next word and began stretching it out once again.
"I don't have time to listen to this crap!" Zoro huffed, turning away from the blond as he took off running.
"Hey, hold on! I wasn't finished, you jerk!" Sanji angrily snapped, ready to follow before quickly dodging the spiked chain that had suddenly shot toward him. Another one soon shot toward Zoro, almost wrapping itself around his ankle if he hadn't dodged it in time. Looking back, both men clenched their jaws the second they spotted Jacob. Irritation welled up inside them the second they spotted that cocky grin of his as his chains snaked their way back up into the sleeves of his jacket.
"You!" Zoro snarled, almost doing a complete one-eighty and rushing right at the man. He so badly wanted to cut that smug look off of his face and get back at him for touching Skylar in such an inappropriate way...but reluctantly decided against it last minute and instead continued running, knowing that he couldn't waste any more time if he wanted to win this round as quickly as possible. Sanji hesitated for a moment before finally making his decision as he too turned away from the man and continued running—both he and the swordsman now doing their best to avoid the chains that attempted to grab and drag them back.
"Why are you running? Scared?" Jacob mocked.
"What?!" Zoro and Sanji shouted as a chain wrapped around each of their legs—spikes painfully digging into their flesh as Jacob now shot himself forward and jumped right over their heads.
"Thanks for the boost!" he laughed as he raced forward, now leaving the two behind.
"Despite losing two players, Team Foxy has a huge lead and is closest to reaching the Stoplight" Itomimizu announced. "At this rate, the Straw Hats don't stand a chance at winning this round!" he exclaimed as Zoro now found himself having to try and control his temper before he did something rash and almost cruel to the other man who was now leaving him behind in his dust. He just needed to focus all of his attention on the race, that's all—he couldn't afford to let his emotions get the best of him.
He had to focus.
"Go! Go!" Luffy cheered.
"That's it, yes—just like that! Keep it up and we'll win!" Foxy boisterously laughed, cheering on his own team.
"Dammit! It's all your fault we've fallen so far behind, you stupid Moss Head! If we lose this round, I'm—" Sanji stopped, blankly staring at the swordsman who had somehow ended up on one of the alternate paths that stopped at a dead-end down near the water.
"How'd this happen?" Zoro frowned. "The path is gone!"
"You can't be serious!" Skylar burst out into a fight of laughter, her body now shaking the second she heard the deep concern in the swordsman's voice as if he wasn't even aware that he had ended up on the wrong path and truly thought that the rest of the main path had just disappeared. "Such a terrible sense of direction!" she wheezed, arms encircling her stomach as she desperately wiped at the tears welling in her eyes from how hard she was laughing. Luffy couldn't help but snicker as well upon hearing her laughter and seeing the situation that the swordsman had put himself in.
"How in the hell can anyone get lost on a path like this one?!" Sanji snapped. "You can see the old man at the end of it! Even your sense of direction can't be that bad!" he scowled.
-Skylar's P.O.V-
Coming down from my laughing fit, I couldn't help but fall back with a heavy sigh as I now stared up at the sky in thought...
What if they lose?
Better yet...what if they win?
They could only take one member back—who would they choose? For a minute, I found myself selfishly thinking that they should pick me just so I wouldn't have to be separated from Zoro. But, when it came down to it, that train of thought came to a screeching halt as I spared a glance towards Robin...
They should pick her. It makes sense seeing how she would prove to be less of a hassle to them...such a thought suddenly brought with it cold and familiarly cruel voices that now clawed their way to the front of my mind and harshly grabbed hold of my heart as they began to whisper such painful reminders into my ear.
"Useless!"
"Who'd ever want someone like you? You're nothing more than a waste of space—both you and your brothers."
"You lack a woman's charm—how could something so disgusting such as yourself come from a beauty like me?"
"Miss Swordswoman?" I jolted back into reality before relaxing, gaze quickly refocused as I turned my head to face Robin.
"Eh?" I blinked, tilting my head when she suddenly reached out and swiped a finger across the bottom of my left eye, wiping away a stray tear.
"Are you alright? You were laughing just mere moments ago—what happened?" she asked, questioningly tilting her head as she curiously peered down at me. I silently stared back for a few seconds before suddenly throwing myself back up as I laughed, startling a few people as they spared us questioning glances. Even Luffy seemed to curiously look our way.
"Of course! Why wouldn't I be alright?" I brightly smiled before my eyes became downcast. "Hey, Robin..." I quietly muttered, causing her to hum in response. "If they do win...I hope they pick you...you'd be less of a hassle to them..." I softly admitted before growing nervous the longer she stared before eventually looking back at the race with a small smile.
"Mr. Swordsman seems to be trying his hardest, he must truly care about you" she suddenly remarked, causing the corner of my lips to twitch at such a thought...the thought that someone other than my brothers truly cared enough about me to try so hard for me.
"Yeah, too bad his sense of direction is just as bad as a headless chicken..." I quietly chuckled, causing the woman to chuckle...from the corner of my eye, I watched how Luffy seemed to brighten as he watched us interact as if pleased to see us getting along so nicely.
"You shouldn't let such negative thoughts bother you, I don't think Mr. Swordsman and the others would appreciate listening to you talk down on yourself like that" Robin suddenly said as she continued to watch the race, not bothering to look my way. "You try your best just as much as the others—you're not a hassle to them" she softly assured me.
"Thanks..." I softly smiled as I pulled my knees up to my chest and rested my chin on top of them. Slowly turning my attention back toward the race as well.
