-Chapter One Hundred and Eighty-Nine-

"You know as well as I do that he won't listen!" I called down to her. "See!" I pointed as the rubber man hastily rushed into the ship's cabin and after the opposing captain without a second thought.

"I know, but for once I wish he would just listen to what I tell him!" Nami angrily huffed as she crossed her arms.

"Straw Hat throws caution to the wind and dashes inside the ship, unfortunately, that means I can't give you play-by-play anymore" Itomimizu sighed as he realized that he couldn't continue playing commentator now that he couldn't see the competitors. "But I think it's safe to assume that whatever's going on in there is completely amazing" he assured everyone.

"Live! It's time to put those wings to the test, Luffy, so spread them and fly!" Usopp cheered.

"These seats are bad enough without you standing in the way!" Sanji snapped as he struck the sharpshooter.

"Looks like this is going to be a long wait" I sighed as I leaned back into my seat.

-Later-

"Time marches on, but neither combatant has emerged as a winner in the final round of this Davy Back Fight" Itomimizu relayed as time sluggishly ticked onward. "It's truly unusual for someone to last so long against Foxy in his own territory, even if they can't see them, the crowd cheers for our boss with their hearts" he said.

"Luffy won't lose!" Zoro firmly huffed.

"Well that goes without saying, he's Luffy and he has an afro" Usopp pointed out.

"I say being Luffy should be more than enough, though the afro is nice" Sanji agreed.

"Okay, you're going have to explain this afro thing to me—you're all acting like it powers him up and that doesn't make any sense" Nami frowned.

"Who knows, Nami, perhaps it does" I grinned as she swiveled her head around and glared up at me.

"Not you too, I already said it doesn't make any sense!" she snapped as I chuckled.

"That's because you have no imagination" I teased.

"Skylar, don't make me come up there" she threateningly growled.

"Oh? Is that a promise?" I playfully cooed, causing Chopper to giggle and Robin to chuckle as the ginger huffed.

"I think this is the longest Combat Round I've ever seen" someone remarked as the crowd began to grow restless the longer the match dragged out.

"The guy's made of rubber after all."

"Made of rubber and he has an afro."

"Really? Am I the only one who doesn't get this?" Nami grumbled as I laughed.

"I'm not scared because no matter what—I know Luffy's going to win this and get us back" Chopper firmly stated.

"That's the spirit" I grinned.

"Of course, he does have that afro and all" Robin smiled.

"You too?" Nami whined before flinching when a sudden explosion rang out.

"What's this? It looks like something is happening on deck—who has the upper hand?" Itomimizu asked. "Or perhaps the battle has ended with a bang and only one fighter remains—no, wait! I see two people!" he gasped as the crowd started roaring with excitement. "But only one of them is standing and yes, it's our boss! Meanwhile, it looks like Straw Hat has been burned to a crisp! He must have taken some serious hot punches!" he relayed.

"Luffy!" Usopp cried.

"No way!" Sanji grounded through clenched teeth.

"It takes more than a few punches to burn someone like that—what gives?!" Nami scowled.

"Luffy!" Chopper sobbed.

"Wait, look!" Robin pointed before the others could despair any longer.

"He's up! Against all odds, Straw Hat is up!" Itomimizu gaped as the captain stumbled back onto his feet. "It seems he was down for the count! But the fight goes on!" he exclaimed.

"It's afro power—what else can it be?" someone in the crowd questioned.

"Finish him, boss!" another cheered.

"Come on, Luffy! You can do it!" I cheered—my heart rate spiking until all I could hear was it and the rushing of blood in my ears as I stared at the roughed-up captain, refusing to believe that he was done for. "I know you can! Just give it your all and I know you can kick that stupid, cheating jerk's ass!" I shouted, wanting to drown out the cheers of the surrounding men. "How can you become Pirate King if you can't even defeat some pathetic loser like this?!"

"Skylar?" Nami quietly questioned, seemingly taken aback by my sudden outburst.

"What's she doing?" someone murmured. "Isn't she supposed to be on our team?" they asked.

"Doesn't matter—rumor has it boss is just going to cash her in for the reward money" another mumbled, catching Robin's attention

"Reward money?" she quietly echoed.

"I know you can do it!" I screamed, ignoring everyone as I cheered on the rubber man as if wanting to push back against those who continued to cheer for the opposing captain...

It was strange.

Never once in my life did I ever think I would find myself screaming at the top of my lungs for a pirate of all people—a pirate I just so happen to call captain. Such a possible scenario had never crossed my mind before...how strange life is and the places it can take you. I didn't care how many times Foxy punched Luffy—I didn't care when some of the men around me started to cheer louder in support of their boss as if trying to drown me out.

No.

Instead, I was focused solely on Luffy and Luffy alone.

"He's down for sure this time" Itomimizu said as the rubber man toppled over again, barely able to stand on his own two feet.

"Come on..." Nami bit her lower lip as I continued to cheer, my voice now starting to crack the longer I pushed it. It wasn't pretty sounding or delicate in the slightest. It sounded strained and rough, it was a voice that sounded raw and hadn't screamed this loudly in years—a voice that hadn't screamed this much all at once in over eight years.

"He's up! He's really up!" Itomimizu gawked as the rubber man shakily pushed himself back up.

"That's nuts! Who is this guy?" someone in the crowd gaped, shocked that the rubber man was still pushing.

"They shouldn't have let him have that afro, nobody can stop him now!"

"That beam is for cheaters, try fighting like a man for once!" Usopp shouted.

"Sit down!" Zoro huffed at the sharpshooter. "Skylar!" he suddenly called up to me as I continued to cheer, only stopping to swallow or suck more air into my lungs. "Calm down—you're going to hurt yourself!" he worriedly frowned.

"Leave her be..." Nami murmured, lightly smacking the swordsman's shoulder. "If cheering makes her feel better then let her cheer for Luffy" she softly smiled, huffing a silent laugh as she peered back.

"Oh! This looks like the end!" Itomimizu announced as one of the masts to the Sexy Foxy suddenly broke due to the number of times Foxy punched Luffy against it.

"He's beating Luffy to death out there!" Usopp wailed.

"Come on! Get up—you can't lose to this split-headed freak!" I screamed, voice painfully cracking. "Rise and fight—I know you can do it!"

"He's getting up!" Itomimizu gasped.

"Luffy..." Nami covered her mouth as Sanji held back a crying Usopp.

"I won't let you take a single member of my crew, even if it kills me!" Luffy proclaimed with a sneer as he stood back up, refusing to be knocked down.

"Luffy!" Usopp sobbed as thick globs of tears finally started to build up in the corners of my eyes.

"He's…he's on his feet! Straw Hat Luffy refuses to give in!" Itomimizu proclaimed. "Straw Hat is back on his feet again, what a guy! He may fall...!" he gasped, already sounding like he too was on the verge of crying the longer the fight went on.

"Luffy!" Chopper wailed.

"But he gets back up every time!" Itomimizu sniffed.

"Why can't you just stay down?" Foxy frowned. "You'll kill yourself!" he snapped, not fully understanding why the rubber man wasn't giving up.

"Luffy!" Usopp and I cried out to the swaying captain who looked like he could barely keep himself balanced on his own two feet.

"He's battered and bruised!" Itomimizu exclaimed.

"Luffy..." Nami whimpered.

"He's tired and out of breath, and yet, he still stands tall with a glimmer in his eye! All for the sake of his friends, now this is a Davy Back Fight—I don't know what to say! I'm so teary-eyed, I can't see straight!" Itomimizu dramatically wailed as the crowd erupted into a flurry of cheering and clapping.

"Luffy!" Usopp sobbed.

"We love you!" Itomimizu proclaimed.

"Luffy!" the crowd wailed.

"The crowd has spoken! Straw Hat has touched our hearts!" Itomimizu cried. "No one has ever lasted this long against our boss! No one has ever shown so much courage!" he sniffed.

"You idiots! Geez, don't you realize you're cheering for the enemy?!" Foxy angrily snapped when he realized that his crew was starting to cheer against him.

"Boss!" and just like that, the crowd did a one-eighty and started to cheer for their boss once again as I happily continued to cheer for Luffy.
