-Chapter One Hundred and Ninety-Two-
"So, excluding our boss, Hamburg, Jacob, and Porche, that should leave us with—oh! That's four hundred ninety-six exactly" Itomimizu blinked. "Well, there you go—it's settled, Captain Luffy" he said, already quick to start referring to the rubber man as captain.
"Nice, thanks!" Luffy grinned.
"Well, folks, this is Itomimizu signing off for today and signing on as the Straw Hats brand new MC" Itomimizu wrapped up as the men started to cheer.
"Three cheers for the new Straw Hat Pirates!" someone cheered in celebration.
"I hate to say this, but no matter how long you look at it, the Merry can't hold this many people" another remarked when they realized just how small our ship was.
"Aw, it's no big deal—we'll just follow along in the Sexy Foxy 'til we work something out!"
"Good point!"
"You'll do no such thing—the Sexy Foxy is my ship, you miserable ingrates!" Foxy angrily snapped, quick to shoot down the men's suggestion to use his ship to follow along under someone else's flag.
"Your ship, huh? I'd like to see the four of them run that huge ship by themselves—they wouldn't last a week" one of the men scoffed, causing Foxy's jaw to drop in shock as if he hadn't expected his own men to turn on him that quickly.
"Yeah, fat chance!" another laughed.
"Fat chance!" Hamburg snickered.
"Is there anything you don't laugh about, Hamburg?" Jacob irritably questioned.
"Aw! Then go, you jerks—who needs you?!" Porche pouted.
"So long, ex-boss!" one of the men waved as Foxy and what was left of his crew were placed inside a small rowboat with the painted Jolly Roger Luffy had made for them.
"Don't catch a cold!"
"Brush your teeth twice a day!"
"Take a bath!"
"They really do care about him, huh" I softly smiled as I listened to the men's reminders toward Foxy and their ex-crewmates. Despite how willing they were to take his ship and devote their loyalty to another captain, they clearly still worried about him to an extent.
"Hey, rubber boy!" Foxy scowled. "I'll make you pay for this, just you wait!" he sneered.
"That's supposed to be a joke, right?" Zoro sweat dropped along with everyone else as we looked at the four and their tiny rowboat.
"Okay! Listen, men!" Luffy clapped in an effort to gain the attention of our new crewmates. "It's time for your first job as members of the Straw Hat Pirates crew—are you guys ready?" he asked.
"You can count on us! Yeah, rubber boss!" they saluted.
"You're all dismissed" Luffy smiled.
"You mean you're kicking us off?" they sweat dropped, not having expected to be dismissed so soon after joining.
"Yep, you got it" Luffy nodded.
"Captain's orders are absolute, so I don't want to hear anyone complain" Zoro said, making it clear he wasn't going to put up with any whining over the captain's decision.
"I don't care if you join your old crews again or you go back to Split Head, but whatever you do, you can't stay with me—so long" Luffy waved as the men boarded the Sexy Foxy and sailed off—none of them really putting up much of a fight or complaining about this sudden turn in events as they hastily sailed after their former captain.
"Well, that worked out nicely" Nami hummed.
"I guess it's because they truly missed Foxy" I nodded.
"You made it back" Tonjit remarked when he spotted us heading toward him and Shelly.
"We brought you a souvenir" Luffy grinned, handing the flag he had taken from Foxy to the old man.
"You're hurt—are you alright?" Tonjit worriedly asked when he saw how badly bruised and banged-up the captain looked.
"Aw, this? It's nothing" Luffy dismissively waved.
"Thank you for your help" Tonjit gratefully smiled.
"Is that why you accepted the fight?" Nami asked. "Because you wanted to help him? And here I thought you were being stupid again" she softly huffed.
"Man, you're rude" Luffy frowned.
"Yeah, Nami, you're pretty rude" I chuckled as I threw an arm around the captain. "He may be dumb, but he's got a brain in that nogging of his that he uses sometimes" I grinned, causing the captain to laugh as I ruffled his hair while Nami rolled her eyes.
"What's happening?" Tonjit asked when the ground started to shake and become ridged as if something was burrowing around underneath it.
"An earthquake?" I questioned, my grip around the captain's neck tightening as I tried to maintain my balance.
"No, it's…" Nami gaped as we stared up in shock at the giant and long mole that had popped right out of the ground.
"Guys, I don't like this..." Chopper warily said.
"Aw, it's cute" I cooed.
"It's huge! What is that?" Luffy asked, tilting his head.
"I'd ask you the same question" a voice suddenly shot back.
"Whoa! You mean this thing can talk?!" Usopp gawked, mistakenly assuming the mole was the one talking.
"I'm not a thing! I'm a mole!" the mole snapped.
"Mole you say?" Usopp questioned. "I don't get it" he frowned.
"I'm the champion, you dig?" a boy asked as he popped out from underneath the mole's hard hat.
"Great, another weirdo..." Nami grumbled, rolling her eyes.
"Seems we're meeting a lot of interesting people today" I chuckled, comfortingly patting her back.
"Champion of what?" Sanji questioned.
"You really need to ask?" the boy frowned. "Obviously I'm the world champion of hole digging—as crazy as it sounds, I'm challenging my own record as we speak!" he proudly grinned.
"That's no excuse for wrecking the old stilts guy's house" Luffy frowned, frustrated that the boy had accidentally destroyed the old man's home upon surfacing. "Where's he supposed to live?" he angrily asked.
"Hm? What old stilts guy?" the boy quietly questioned, tilting his head as Tonjit's eyes suddenly started to water—looking down at the old man, the child's own eyes started to water as well upon seeing him. "It can't be...it's really you..." he breathlessly muttered in disbelief.
"Of course!" Tonjit happily nodded.
"Grandpa!" the boy wailed, jumping off the mole's head as he quickly embraced the old man in a tight hug.
"Littonto!" Tonjit cried, returning the child's embrace.
"I've missed you so much!" Littonto sobbed. "I was so lonely without you!"
"You've turned into a fine young man—I'm so sorry I didn't get to watch you grow up!" Tonjit sniffed. "I didn't mean to worry you—I hope you can forgive me!" he sobbed, regretful that he hadn't been there to witness the young boy's growth.
"I didn't see that one coming" Usopp said, surprised that the strange boy had turned out to be the old man's grandson.
"I don't think anyone did" I said.
-Later-
"When I thought about how hard my grandpa was working on his world record, it inspired me to work on a record of my own" Littonto explained, taking time to talk and explain things to us as the sun slowly started to set. "And suddenly, before I knew it, all my loneliness turned into a passion for hole digging" he smiled.
"And now you're the champion?" Sanji questioned.
"Yep, I'm going to dig through the whole world!" Littonto firmly nodded.
"You aim big, huh? Just like the old stilts guy!" Luffy laughed.
"Must run in the family" I chuckled, finding it rather sweet that the boy was able to look to his grandfather for inspiration instead of feeling any sort of resentment toward the old man for being unintentionally absent throughout most of his childhood.
"That's not a compliment" Usopp deadpanned, causing everyone to burst out into a fit of laughter.
"Say, couldn't you follow one of your holes to reach the other villagers?" Robin suddenly questioned, causing everyone to realize that the two could easily reunite with the other villagers who had left long ago with the help of the holes the young boy and his mole had dug.
"Looks like it all worked out, huh?" Luffy smiled as we finally started to board the Merry, now ready to set sail.
"Yes, I don't know how to thank you for all you've done" Tonjit nodded.
"Don't worry about it" Luffy dismissively waved.
"Thanks a lot, ma'am" Littonto gratefully smiled up at Robin. "If you hadn't said something, I'd probably be waiting for years to see the other villagers!" he waved, not ashamed to admit that the thought of using the holes he and his mole have dug would have never crossed his mind.
"Farewell, my friends—I won't forget you!" Tonjit waved as we set sail. "Again, thank you so much!" he happily shouted before we could get too far away.
