-Chapter One Hundred and Ninety-Five-
"Yes, he's truly a brilliant doctor" Robin and I praised with a nod.
"Better than any human you'll meet" I grinned.
"Isn't that right?" Robin asked.
"Shut up! You both can praise me all you want, you stupid humans, but don't think I'll like it or anything!" Chopper giggled, doing a happy little dance as he returned to his normal size.
"Really? You look like you do" Sanji sweat dropped.
"So cute—I don't think my heart can take it!" I laughed, clapping my hands together as the reindeer's bashful smile grew and his blush darkened. "His name's Chopper" I brightly smiled as I helped introduce the reindeer to the others.
"He's a reindeer, but he ate the Human Human Fruit and gained human abilities" Robin explained, adding to the reindeer's introduction to the best of her abilities with what little she actually knew about him. "He's not the only one—I ate the Flower Flower Fruit and gained Devil Fruit powers" she said, sprouting multiple arms as she showed off her ability.
"Luffy also ate a Devil Fruit, didn't you?" I hummed as I turned to the captain.
"Yep, I ate the Gum Gum Fruit" Luffy nodded as he stretched his cheeks out to an unnatural degree. "My body is made of rubber" he grinned.
"Disturbing..." I muttered, cringing at how unnatural his face looked as he stretched his cheeks far past the normal length a human should.
"And you guys are all pirates?" Chopper shyly questioned, now taking refuge near one of the corners as he once more tried to distance himself from the rest of us. "Real pirates?" he asked.
"We are" Robin nodded.
"You're a pirate too, you know?" I smiled, gaze softening as he shyly lowered his head and shuffled closer to the corner he was trying to hide in.
"Well, I guess I'll allow it—you're officially a member of my crew" Usopp sighed.
"How generous of you, captain" I rolled my eyes.
"What? But why?" Chopper frowned, not realizing that the sharpshooter was still lying.
"You believe that guy?" Sanji sweat dropped.
"In any case, we've been sailing the seas together for quite some time now as an eight-member crew" Robin explained.
"Wait, eight?" Usopp blinked, mentally recounting the number of people that he'd seen on the ship so far.
"That's right, eight members in total" I nodded, my nerves starting to build back up as I realized Zoro still hadn't shown up yet.
"You up there, Swordsman?" Robin called up to the crow's nest.
"Thank goodness—I was afraid he had wandered off and gotten lost" I breathed out, relieved to see the moss-haired man as he stood and stretched as if he had just woken up.
"It's a little early for this much racket" Zoro yawned, jumping down from the crow's nest. "I was trying to sleep" he frowned, clearly annoyed at having been woken up so suddenly.
"You're always sleeping" I deadpanned.
"What the heck? Who's this guy?" Usopp nervously asked. "State your name!" he demanded, clearly trying to sound tough despite the way his legs began to tremble in fear.
"You're not supposed to ask for someone's name unless you've given them yours first, you know?" Zoro frowned.
"Hi, I'm Luffy—so what's your name?" Luffy greeted with a smile.
"I'm Roronoa Zoro" Zoro responded.
"The Pirate Hunter?" Sanji questioned as I felt my shoulders slump at the lack of acknowledgment from the swordsman. No doubt his memory was missing just as much as the others...but surely even if he has no recollection of our recent confession, he'd at least still remember our friendship seeing how Luffy was easily able to recall an early childhood memory of his own. Then again...there's no doubt his mind was nothing short of a muddled-up mess of confusion at the moment due to suddenly waking up in a strange environment that probably looked nothing like the one he recalled falling asleep in. I'd probably struggle to recall any familiar faces myself if I were to suddenly wake up somewhere new and unexpected with no recollection of how I got there.
"That's not a description I've ever applied to myself, other people stuck me with it" Zoro clarified, sounding just the slightest bit uncomfortable with being referred to as a pirate hunter.
"But you are still a bounty hunter, aren't you?" Sanji inquired.
"Yeah, but only when I'm starving or need money to live" Zoro nodded. "It's not a profession or anything" he shrugged.
"Alright, but I'm guessing the only reason you're here is because you're on the hunt for pirates" Sanji reasoned, seeing no other reason for a pirate hunter to be on a pirate ship of all things.
"The fact that their holding a casual conversation without it devolving into a mess of a fight is amazing..." I mumbled in amazement, causing Robin to softly chuckle.
"Beats me" Zoro shrugged. "I haven't the slightest idea why I'm on this ship—so you guys notorious pirates or something?" he curiously asked, looking around as his gaze soon settled on me—lingering for but a moment as he furrowed in brows in what I could only assume was concentration as if he was trying to recall something.
"This guy wants to sell our heads for money!" Usopp cried out, distracting the swordsman whose gaze was instantly torn away and placed back on the sharpshooter. "Well fine, then bring it on! I got eight thousand pirates under my command!" he boasted, suddenly deciding to gain a backbone at the wrong moment.
"Usopp, that's not really the brightest thing to say to a pirate hunter" I heavily sighed, pinching the bridge of my nose as I shook my head at the sharpshooter's stupidity.
"Really? Then I would imagine you'd have a pretty hefty bounty on your head" Zoro grinned as he drew one of his swords. "And just as I was starting to get low on food money—I'd be happy to take you on if that's what you want."
"No! No! No! I don't want that—that's not what I meant at all!" Usopp frantically cried once he realized his mistake. "Let's just take it easy, okay?! Is somebody going to help me out over here?!" he panicked as he looked to the rest of us for help.
"Usopp doesn't have a bounty on him, not a single solitary beli" Robin piped up.
"I don't?" Usopp blinked.
"That's right, he's just a huge liar" I nodded, mindlessly picking some lint off the red sweater I had thrown on this morning that paired nicely with the black skinny jeans and brown boots I had on. "You shouldn't really take anything he says that seriously" I sighed, crossing my arms. "Is that the waver?" I blinked, ears perking up to the sound of an engine as Nami suddenly came barreling out onto the deck on the waver along with our sack of gold.
"Whoa! What is that thing?" Luffy gaped in amazement as the ginger ran Usopp down and jumped over the ship's railing—crashing into the water as she rode off toward the nearby island. "Huh? Why did she take off? That thing is neat!" he grinned, confused as to why the woman had been so quick to leave.
"But our date..." Sanji sadly mumbled.
"She never agreed to one" I sweat dropped, not recalling the ginger ever accepting the blonde's offer to dinner that night.
"What? Did he jump overboard?" Luffy blinked when we suddenly heard a splash as Zoro jumped off the ship. "Why is everybody leaving?" he pouted, confused as to why everyone was so adamant about ditching the ship.
"What?" I hastily moved to the railing. "Hey! Where are you going?!" I called out, only to be ignored. Looking down at the water, I was half tempted to jump right in after him until I felt Robin rest a hand on my shoulder as she shook her head as if she could read my mind.
"Best to just let him go for now" she said, causing me to heave a sigh as I reluctantly nodded.
"What the heck is wrong with these people?" Usopp weakly groaned from where he lay sprawled out on the ground.
"That is what we're going to have to figure out" Robin said.
"And quickly" I frowned.
"Our navigator..." Robin sighed as she looked off in the direction Nami disappeared toward.
"I guess I can postpone that heart attack..." Usopp mumbled, watching in relief as Zoro swam away and was no longer threatening to gut him like a fish.
"Not that I'm sad to see the guy go, but we're losing people left and right" Sanji remarked.
"Our navigator likely headed to the island, I doubt she'll go too far—she won't do anything drastic" Robin assured us.
"Not until she thinks things through anyway" I added. "Zoro's probably also heading toward the island, but unlike Nami, I can't guarantee he won't potentially try something" I heavily sighed, uncertain if the swordsman would stay in place on an unknown island or if he'd instantly try to find a way to leave.
"Let's hope so" Sanji said, clearly more concerned for Nami than he was for Zoro as he stared off in the direction the ginger had disappeared off in. He soon raised an eyebrow though when Luffy suddenly dropped to the floor
"Hungry?" I softly chuckled, squatting down and shaking my head at the captain's antics as he weakly nodded.
"Yeah, I'm starving to death here!" he groaned before looking toward Chopper who instantly started to back away. "You look delicious" he drooled.
"We already told you—Chopper's not food, so behave" I sighed, lightly hitting the back of his head which in return caused him to softly whine.
"Geez, you really got a one-track mind, don't you?" Sanji asked, rolling his eyes. "Oh well, I guess we can try and figure out just what the hell is going on here while we're eating. But, first things first, I'm afraid I never got your two's names" he suddenly said as he turned to Robin and me.
"It's Nico Robin" Robin introduced.
"Skylar Strife" I gently smiled, internally wincing at the automatic greeting as I stood back up.
"Despite the circumstances, it's a pleasure to meet you two—now, can you both fill us in on our history?" Sanji inquired.
"Sure" Robin and I nodded.
-Later-
"So clouds are really as fluffy as they look?" Luffy eagerly questioned once Robin and I were finished filling him and the others on our shared history and past adventures.
"They sure are" I chuckled, watching in amusement as he excitedly started to list off the things we had told him before suddenly halting his speech.
"Dang it! I want to remember all this stuff!" he pouted once he realized that despite being told that he'd been on these adventures, he had no recollection of them at all.
"A Davy Back Fight and a Marine Fortress?" Sanji questioned as he poured some coffee. "Sky Islands and sand countries, talk about a fantastic adventure—and this is true?" he curiously asked as he handed Robin her coffee.
"Yes, all true" the older woman nodded.
"It may sound ridiculous and a bit bizarre, but every bit of it is true" I smiled.
"Hey, don't you have any more stories about our neat adventures?" Luffy eagerly asked.
