-Chapter Two Hundred and Four-

"You're not much of a threat once that annoying little beam of yours is taken care of!" the Fang Frog Pirates captain laughed as the crew proceeded to gang up on Foxy with little to no remorse. "Not so funny when it happens to you!" he hatefully sneered.

"Hold on boss!" Hamburg worriedly cried, knocking the crewmembers away from his captain with his club.

"This isn't much of a fight..." Jacob bitterly grumbled as he used his chains to drag and toss the men beating on his captain away. Surprisingly, he looked rather peeved with the men for interfering in what was meant to be a captain's only fight.

"What do you think you're doing?" Porche scowled as the new captain of the men roughly grabbed her and threateningly pressed the blade of a knife to her throat.

"Hold it right there!" he snapped, causing Hamburg and Jacob to instantly freeze. "Drop your weapons!" he barked, sneering at the two.

"Curse you..." Foxy grounded as his two companions reluctantly complied with the captain's orders, his body now reacting to the attacks it had been subjected to in his slowed state. Right as the beam's effects completely wore off, his entire body slammed into the ground as he finally took the full force of each attack while Hamburg and Jacob were now being ganged up on by the crew. All three dropped to the ground as they were forced to take the abuse so the opposing captain wouldn't bring harm to Porche. I felt my jaw clench as disgust filled me, even if I didn't necessarily like Foxy and his men that didn't mean I agreed with this cruel and unfair treatment.

"There—what do you think of your old boss now? Pretty pathetic, huh?" the Fang Frog Pirates captain laughed as he looked at those who didn't participate. "Only a fool would stay loyal to a captain like him!" he snarled.

"What's wrong with you?" Luffy scowled as he stood up. "This was supposed to be a duel between captains, you big cheater!" he angrily snapped, clearly becoming just as frustrated as I was with the man's disgusting behavior.

"You don't know anything, kid!" the opposing captain snapped right back. "It's true that Foxy challenged me to a duel, but I never said that I accepted" he grinned as if he was a genius for pointing out such a loophole. I flinched when I was suddenly picked up and placed in Zoro's lap as he sat up, now holding me tight against his chest as I finally became aware of just how bad I was starting to tremble with all this barely contained rage.

"That jerk's asking for it!" Luffy grounded through clenched teeth.

"Calm down, Luffy—it's up to Foxy to win this fight on his own" Zoro said as he rested his chin on my shoulder and gave me a gentle squeeze. "Fighting him won't do anyone any good" he pointed out.

"He's right..." I reluctantly agreed despite how annoyed I was. "This isn't really our fight—if he really wants his ship and crew back then he's going to have to do it himself" I sighed, aware that the men wouldn't be able to respect a captain who would let someone else fight what was clearly his battle.

"The swordsman's right..." Foxy groaned as he shakily stood. "Just sit back and watch, Straw Hat, I'll put my pride on the line and show you what the Sliver Fox can really do!" he proudly boasted. "Whoa! Check out that thing up there!" he suddenly shouted.

"What thing?" I blinked as everyone turned their heads to curiously look.

"Hey! The fox guy's gone!" one of the men shouted when we turned back and found Foxy gone.

"Did anyone see where he went?" another asked as Foxy stood up, now wearing a female mask and feminine clothing in a poor attempt of a disguise.

"He went that way—trust me, I would never lie" he spoke in a terribly high-pitched voice as he pointed in the opposite direction.

"They're not going to fall for that..." I sweat dropped, unable to see how anyone would fall for such a poor disguise.

"Great, thanks!" someone grinned.

"I...I stand corrected..." my sweat drop grew bigger as Zoro snorted.

"Hey! You think we'd fall for that?!" one of the men snapped, shooting a cannon at Foxy...well, at least they weren't as dumb as I originally thought.

"There you go, one roasted fox coming up!" another mockingly laughed as I winced.

"Yeah, no—I can't watch this pathetic excuse of a fight" I shook my head, pulling away from Zoro as I stood. There was no way I was going to continue sitting here and watching something I knew was just going to make me mad.

"Where are you going, Skylar?" Nami curiously asked.

"Back to the Merry—going to see what Chopper and Robin are up to" I dismissively waved before yelping when I suddenly felt a small smack being delivered to my bottom. Covering my bottom, I whirled my head around and glared as Zoro comfortably leaned back against the stairs with a smug grin.

"Well, go on" he waved, chuckling as I swatted my hands at him before storming off with a flushed face. I ignored the sound of his and Nami's laughter as well as Sanji's attempt to chew the swordsman out for his crude behavior.

"Seems you two are having fun" I remarked the second I jumped aboard the Merry—curiously looking at the board game Robin and Chopper were currently playing as I approached the two.

"Hi, Skylar—want to play?" Chopper happily asked as I plopped down beside him.

"Nah" I shook my head, stopping him before he could move to rest the board. "You both seem pretty far into it, don't want to make you start all over."

"You're back rather early—where are the others?" Robin curiously asked as she finished her turn.

"Still on the Sexy Foxy" I answered, motioning back toward the larger ship. "Let's just say I wasn't interested in the fight they had going on up there and leave it at that" I said, causing the woman to hum as she nodded.

"Tell me, Miss Swordswoman," she suddenly began after a second or two of peaceful silence as we watched Chopper finish his turn, "I've been wondering this for a while now, but how exactly did you come to be a part of this crew?" she curiously asked, sounding as if attempting to make small talk with me while we waited for the others to return.

"Uh...well..." I tilted my head back as I hummed in thought before finally telling her how I came to meet the Straw Hats—telling her about their arrival and that silly little game the island liked to play and how Luffy seemed to attach himself to me during their stay. I didn't share everything involving that week, keeping vague and not telling her the whole truth of everything that went down involving the captain and mine's time spent together. "Fair Haven? I don't think I've ever heard of that island before?" she frowned as she tried to recall the unfamiliar name.

"That's because it's not on any maps—it's rare to come across it and those who do know about it tend to avoid it" I told her, causing her to questioningly tilt her head. "In fact, the name is quite ironic because it's not a fair haven at all" I softly chuckled. "It's an island made up of people who have rejected the government and society as a whole—people who wish to live in their own little bubble with their own rules and societal standards. They detest strangers or any kind of outsider really who dares to move or step foot on the island" I explained. "A common form of entertainment for some of the villagers there is inflicting violence and robbing any docking ships of their money—sure they can be civil when they want to be since they do sometimes trade with the nearby islands for resources, but for the most part, they keep to themselves."

"Really? They don't sound like good people" Chopper frowned

"Indeed, they aren't" I nodded. "In fact, the people there are rarely ever kind to those outside of other natives—they don't like anyone who will risk the chance of disrupting their lives or ruining their peace" I said. "Marines can't get anywhere near the island due to how overly aggressive the residents are with them, that's why its coordinates haven't properly been recorded on any maps" I explained.

"Couldn't the Marines just use force?" Robin asked.

"Yeah...but why bother?" I asked. "There isn't really anything of value on that island and it's not like the inhabitants of the island contribute anything special to the outside world, so there's no reason to waste resources on a group of people just to get a few measly coordinates" I shrugged. "Despite how aggressive they can be...there are a few good people on that island like a few residents, the doctor, and the mayor..." I muttered, feeling it wrong not to at least acknowledge some of the people who did try to be kind to my brothers and me. "Still...they didn't do much to calm the others...they just let everyone do as they pleased as long as it doesn't disrupt their own lives..." I sighed, ignoring the bitter taste in my mouth at the cruel voice in the back of my head that harshly reminded me how even when they tried to do good, they still didn't do right...

They still left us to the mercy of the others...

"What do you mean by them rejecting the government?" Robin questioned.

"The history of the island is rather simple—I read up on it once before, but it was founded years ago by a group of people who just didn't agree with the way the government was running things" I explained as I shifted around.

"Didn't agree?" she echoed back.

"To sum it up, it's more like the island was founded by a bunch of commoners and outcasts who just detested how unfairly the government tends to treat people of certain classes and who don't exactly fit into their standards of normal" I clarified. "People who hate how the government clearly favors the rich and is more lenient with them compared to how they are when punishing someone of lower class or doesn't exactly fit in with the rest of society."

"I see" she nodded.

"So when the island was eventually founded and later discovered by the government to be inhabited, these inhabitants naturally fought to keep it off the map as well as fought to ensure no Marine bases would be put up" I continued...indeed, such information is what made the island the best and worst place to take refuge in my opinion. Sure, it kept us hidden from the government...but that didn't make up for the harsh treatment we received from the residents of the island who clearly didn't want us—who didn't like how we seemingly just came barging into their homeland and attempted to settle ourselves there without their permission despite the fact that we had no other choice. "I won't lie, despite their claims, they clearly don't hate everything about the government and how it runs things seeing how they do look up to some of the well-known Marines who have accomplished many great things in their life..." I confessed. "No matter who you are or how much you hate the government, you can't ignore the good that some of the people a part of it do in life..." I muttered.

"Interesting" Robin hummed. "Would you mind telling me about your brothers?" she suddenly inquired as if trying to keep the conversation alive.

"No, I don't mind..." I softly smiled, shaking my head as we started to casually talk back and forth with one another while she and Chopper continued playing their game. Occasionally, the reindeer would pipe up and attempt to join in—happily making a remark or two or even asking a question of his own. I couldn't shake the smile on my face as we talked—any bitterness I may have had earlier melting away as I relaxed completely the longer I spoke about my brothers back home and any other topics that came to mind between the three of us. I always enjoyed whenever I could just casually talk with one of the others, finding it rather nice to be able to get to know them on a more personal level and see them as more than just someone I happened to sail around on the same ship with.

"Look, human fireworks" Robin smiled as a bunch of crewmen suddenly went flying off the Sexy Foxy.

"How pretty" I snorted, amused by the older woman's wording.

"They must be really going at it..." Chopper muttered.

Time passed and it wasn't long before the game between Chopper and Robin ended, causing the three of us to separate as we went on to do our own things to help keep us busy while we waited for the others to return. Chopper decided to make some more medicine as he found he was starting to run low on certain remedies while Robin chose to continue reading one of her books. I ended up busying myself with some light training when I found there was nothing much else to do while the others were away.

"Do you hear that?" Chopper asked as the sound of cheering could now be heard coming from Sexy Foxy. "I wonder what everyone is doing over there—do you know, Skylar?" he curiously asked.

"Sorry, but I left before anything really interesting had the chance to start" I shook my head while wiping the sweat from my brow. I had long since switched into a tank top and a pair of black workout shorts to help keep me cool during my training—hair now pulled up into a high ponytail so that it wasn't in my way.

"Why don't you go pay them a visit and find out" Robin suggested, not really looking up from her book. "We should be fine watching the ship on our own, right?" she asked.

"Yeah, I doubt anything would happen if you left" I nodded, unable to see anything massive happening should the reindeer leave us to go join up with the others on the Sexy Foxy.

"If something bad happens, I wouldn't want you two by yourselves—besides, I'd rather stick around and study" Chopper shook his head.

"How sweet of you" I smiled as I started to stretch. It fell silent after that with the only sounds being my occasional grunts and the sound of Chopper grinding down some medical herbs in that mortar of his.

"Is something a matter, Doctor?" Robin asked when Chopper suddenly stopped what he was doing and shivered like something was wrong.

"Uh...no, it's nothing..." he quietly mumbled as he quickly went back to work...although, not long after, he tensed up once again as my back suddenly straightened and I harshly shivered.

"Is something a matter, Doctor? Swordswoman?" Robin asked.

"Uh...no, it's nothing..." Chopper answered once again.

"Don't know, just got a sudden bad feeling all of a sudden..." I shook my head, frowning in confusion. For a second there...it almost felt like Zoro was about to kiss someone else…

Weird.

Shaking my head once again, I tried to ignore such an odd feeling as I returned to my training. Once more it grew peacefully silent between the three of us...and once more it quickly disappeared as Chopper tensed right up with a shiver as if something was wrong.

"Is something a matter, Doctor?" Robin asked once again, sounding just the tiniest bit exasperated by the reindeer's strange behavior.

"Uh...no, it's nothing..." and once again, he answered the same as always. I flinched at a series of explosions that suddenly sounded out from the ship beside us as the others hurriedly jumped down onto the Merry and set sail with little to no explanation of what had happened.

"Bon voyage, Straw Hat!" Foxy waved as he called out to us.

"You too, Split Head!" Luffy smiled, before blinking at the afro wig that was tossed at him.

"So funky!" Foxy grinned.

"Yeah!" Luffy cheered, excited when he saw that familiar wig.

"Oh no, you don't!" Nami growled, quickly snatching the wig away from our captain as I chuckled.

"It's not very nice to take other people's gifts, Nami" I playfully chastised, giggling as I held my hands in mock defense when she turned and glared at me. "So, how's Usopp holding up?" I asked, quickly turning to Chopper who was placing some kind of medicine underneath a passed-out Usopp's nose.

"Good, I thought you'd never wake up" Chopper sighed in relief when the sharpshooter finally sat upright.

"Where am I? Last I remember, I was—" Usopp cut himself off with a look of horror as if he had just remembered something terrifying. "Hey, you left me stranded with those creeps!" he angrily snapped, glaring at Nami.

"That's not what happened at all! Did you forget?" Nami nervously asked as she quickly held her hands up in defense.
