-Chapter Two Hundred and Seven-

"This guy has Robin scared out of her freaking mind—why?" Nami frowned, nervously fidgeting as she tried to calm her nerves upon seeing someone as calm and as collected as Robin get worked up over the sight of just one man.

"He's a Marine—Navy Headquarters Admiral Aokiji" Robin clarified, causing me to wince as the tremble in my body seemed to worsen.

"Admiral?" everyone frowned.

"That's right—there are only four officers in the entire Navy who currently hold the position of Admiral" Robin nodded. "Akainu, Aokiji, Kizaru, and Varen—the only one who outranks them is Fleet Admiral Sengoku, the top official" she explained. "The man you see standing before you is one of the four men known as the World Government's ultimate powerhouses."

"That name..." I clenched my jaw...oh, how I hated that name.

Varen.

It was such a fitting name for a man such as my father—a name that he felt so proud of that he absolutely refused to use any sort of codename just like the other members of our family who once held that same position of Admiral. They were too prideful. They wanted everyone to know their names and remember who they were even after they were long gone, so they all refused any sort of codename the government tried to give them.

"Then why the heck is someone like this even here?" Usopp frowned. "Shouldn't you be out hunting some big-time pirate with a bazillion beli bounty or something?! Go away!" he fearfully cried as he attempted to shoo the man away.

"Oh my, my!" Aokiji suddenly perked up the moment he caught sight of Nami, eyes brightened as his gaze flickered along her body as if drinking in every curve.

"What is it?" the ginger warily asked, not liking the sudden attention.

"Another very sexy lady with big bazongers—are you free tonight?" the Admiral asked.

"He's...he's rather straightforward, isn't he?" I sweat dropped, my fear momentarily disappearing upon hearing such a ridiculous line. If I'm honest, I don't recall him ever causing any problems the few times he had been around the house...but that doesn't mean he wasn't still dangerous—that he wasn't still a problem.

"You watch your mouth, lanky jerk!" Sanji growled.

"Focus! Pay attention!" Usopp snapped.

"Whoa! Whoa! Hold on a second, you guys—didn't you hear what I just said?" Aokiji asked as he raised his hands. "I'm just taking a little stroll—don't get so worked up, okay? I mean, you guys are just…you're just like…whatchamacallit, you know?" he asked, struggling to find the right word.

"What?" Luffy frowned, not quite understanding what it was the man was trying to say.

"What'd he say?" Chopper questioned.

"I forgot, oh well" Aokiji shrugged.

"At least he's honest..." I muttered, my sweat drop only growing bigger.

"You're not making any sense, you weirdo!" Sanji and Usopp snapped.

"Robin, are you kidding? You must be mistaking him for someone else—this doofus wouldn't pass for a regular Marine, let alone an Admiral" Usopp irritably huffed, finding it hard to believe that the man in front of us was really a Marine Admiral.

"You'll be surprised what kind of people can get that high up into power..." I bitterly spat.

"Hey, come on, you shouldn't go around judging people based on their appearance" Aokiji scolded. "The motto I've always lived by as a Marine is total slaving justice."

"Then our judgment was right!" Sanji and Usopp snapped.

"Anyways, what I was saying...uh...excuse me a moment" Aokiji said as he moved to lay down. "Being on my feet too long makes me tired" he yawned, already starting to feel sleepy despite not really doing anything too strenuous.

"Yeah, well maybe you shouldn't have been sleeping standing up, you think?" Usopp grumbled.

"What I was saying is that I have no intentions of capturing you or anything like that, so just take it easy" Aokiji assured us. "I'm only here to confirm the whereabouts of Nico Robin who hasn't been seen since the Alabasta incident—as we suspected, she's been with you" he explained. "Now, all that's left is the continued search for Varen's missing kids...although it already seems I've found one of them..." he grumbled under his breath, voice a low unintelligible murmur by now that the others hadn't really caught any of what he had said near the end. No, they were more invested in his earlier remarks, all of them saved for one...

"Missing kids?" Robin quietly questioned as she furrowed her brows. My eyes widened...in a strange and illogical sense, I had secretly hoped that the search would have been called off years ago and that my brothers and my fears were just us being silly and overthinking things. It's been well over eight years since we disappeared so it only made sense for us to hope that the government would have brushed us off as dead or nothing more than a lost cause after so long...

What a silly thing to think.

Mother refused to give him another child after Sora and I were born—my brothers and I were all he had which didn't bode well for someone who needed a successor. Not only that, but we weren't just the missing children of some random commoner or a low-ranking Marine officer, but an Admiral instead. It made sense that neither he nor the government would give up that easily. Despite it being eight years since we ran and despite there clearly being no signs of our whereabouts...they were still looking...

Perhaps such a sentiment would have sounded sweet if it was coming from someone other than him.

"That is one tall piece of apathy" Sanji remarked.

"The only thing high-ranking about him is his nerve..." Usopp irritably grumbled.

"I'll put some sort of report together for Headquarters later" Aokiji dismissively waved as if he wasn't all that invested nor interested in the paperwork that was now awaiting him back at Headquarters. "Now that you've added another crewmember that got a price on her head, your overall bounty has gone up" he noted. "100,000,000 plus 60,000,000 plus 79,000,000 equals…" he muttered, frowning as he tried to do the math. "Ah, screw it! Some big ass number..." he grumbled when he realized that the numbers were far too big for him to really calculate inside his head.

"Just do the math!" Zoro snapped.

"That's it, Gum Gum—" Luffy started to stretch his arm back, ready to pick a fight with the Admiral.

"Hold on, Luffy!" Usopp and Sanji shouted, quick to hold him back and stop him in his tracks.

"Stop it! Stop!" the sharpshooter pleaded.

"What are you guys doing? Let me go!" Luffy snapped, annoyed that they were interfering.

"Why are you trying to start a fight with this guy?!" Sanji frowned, confused as to why the captain was already trying to cause trouble for us.

"Are you crazy?" Usopp snapped. "He's one of the strongest Marines there is!"

"I'm not going to just stand around while this jerk tries to take Robin away from us!" Luffy scowled, causing me to relax a little and smile. How sweet...even if the Admiral was claiming to have no intentions of doing such a thing, he was still going to pick a fight with him out of fear that he was lying.

"I'm not going to do anything, remember?" Aokiji questioned.

"Well, I am! I'm kicking your ass!" Luffy snapped.

"Dammit!" Sanji cursed.

"Hold on, just relax!" Usopp cried.

"Eh?" I perked up to the sudden sound of fast-approaching footsteps as I turned my head—looking toward the jungle, we watched as a crowd of people came stumbling out from the foliage.

"So you're really a Marine?" a blond-haired man asked, dropping to his knees as he sighed in relief. "I wish we'd known that a lot sooner."

"Hey, who are all these people?" Nami asked as more people started to drop to their knees as well.

"Whoa! Are you guys okay?" Sanji worriedly asked.

"They look as if they've been here for a while" I remarked as I took note of how disheveled everyone was—many of them filthy with their clothes nothing more than tatters and their cheeks practically sunken as if it's been days since they've last eaten.

"I thought this island was uninhabited?" Usopp frowned, confused about where this large group had come from.

-Later-

"Well, they're probably castaways that washed up on the shore here—there was a passenger liner that was reported missing about a month ago, last seen somewhere in this area. I'm guessing it sank and these are the survivors" Aokiji summarized as we tended to the people to the best of our abilities. I couldn't help but make silly faces at the young girl I was checking up on—widely smiling as I listened to her burst out into a giggling fit with each face I made.

"How are they, Chopper?" Luffy asked.

"Some of them are injured, but there doesn't appear to be anything too serious" Chopper answered. "I got some medicine that should fix them right up, but the more pressing matter is they haven't had much to eat in days—their bodies are too weak" he worriedly frowned.

"Sanji and Usopp went to see if they could find some food, they should be back soon" Nami assured the reindeer.

"Yeah, hopefully it shouldn't take them that long" I nodded before turning my attention back to the child in front of me.

"You're really good with kids, aren't you?" Nami asked the moment she turned her head as I went back to making funny faces that got the little girl laughing.

"Yeah, they're cute little buggers aren't they?" I grinned. "Especially this cutie here" I teased, playfully ruffling the little girl's hair as she fell into another laughing fit.

"Yeah..." Nami smiled before shaking her head as she turned her attention back to the children she was helping to tend to.

"Hey, sorry it took so long" Usopp apologized as he and Sanji finally returned. "I can only imagine how hungry you are."

"Take it easy" the blonde said when the people started hastily shoveling down the food he had prepared for them. "No need to wolf it down, there's plenty more where that came from" he assured them with a smile.

"Yeah" Luffy agreed through a mouthful. "No wolf, there's plenty."

"Hey, why are eating it? Cut it out!" Usopp snapped when he saw the captain eating the food meant for the stowaways. "Hey look, this island may be deserted, but you still could have found food on your own, you know? You're lucky we came along when we did" he softly scolded, not understanding how they could let themselves get this bad on an island full of food.

"Their ship wrecked in the Grand Line" Nami reminded him as she and I helped feed the younger children who struggled to properly feed themselves.

"They're lucky to be alive at all, normally people don't survive a shipwreck on the Grand Line" I said. "Not only that, but passengers on a liner probably aren't going to have the best survival skills..." I muttered, keeping such a remark to myself despite how true it was.

"Not everyone was so fortunate, we were the only ones on the ship who made it to this island" a blond-haired man from earlier sadly admitted.

"Is that so? What exactly happened?" I asked.

"We were on our way home from a gourmet tour of the city renowned for its exquisite food when suddenly our ship collided with a giant frog that was doing the front crawl and shattered it to pieces" the blond explained, causing me to owlishly blink...I had expected him to say a storm or pirates, not a giant amphibian.

"A giant frog doing the front crawl? Seriously?" Nami frowned in disbelief.
