-Chapter Two Hundred and Fourteen-
"Yahoo! Let's go—City of Meat, here we come!" Luffy excitedly cheered.
"Did you forget where we're going already?" Usopp sweat dropped.
"I mean...is it really that surprising" I chuckled, amused by just how quick the captain was to forget the name of the place we were going.
"Ah, what a nice wind" Nami happily sighed. "We might make it to Water Seven even faster than I thought" she smiled.
"I'll be happy either way" Chopper said.
"Don't worry about finding a shipwright, I got it all under control—I'll get the hottest girl in town guaranteed" Sanji assured us, already wearing that silly lovesick gaze of his that he always wore whenever he saw or thought of a pretty woman.
"Don't you mean the best shipwright in town?" I raised an eyebrow.
"What do I care if the shipwright's hot?" Luffy frowned, clearly not understanding what the blond meant at all. "I want a huge manly dude, like even bigger than a bear! Sixty feet tall!" he proclaimed.
"Now you're just exaggerating" I sweat dropped.
"A guy that size couldn't even fit on the ship!" Usopp snapped. "Besides, who knows how much food he would have to eat" he frowned.
"It would probably still be less than what Luffy eats daily" I pointed out.
"All that matters is that he's good at his job" Zoro cut in, making it clear that it didn't matter in the end what the shipwright looked like as long as they did their job well. "You ask me, the real problem's going to be finding someone crazy enough to go sailing with a bunch of pirates" he pointed out.
"Eh, I doubt it would be that hard—I mean, just look at Luffy, who could say no to that face?" I chuckled, causing a few of the others to grumble as the captain laughed.
"Size doesn't matter, I'm just glad we're going to make a new friend" Chopper smiled.
"See, now that's some positive thinking I can get behind" I hummed in agreement. "Who cares if they're a hot lady or sixty feet tall, as long as they're friendly then they're good in my book."
"We're lucky we ran into that train station on the way, this map should be a big help—all we have to do is follow Kokoro's directions to that Iceburg guy and we're set" Nami smiled as she unfolded the map Kokoro had given her. Her good mood was cut short though as her eye twitched and her lips pulled back into a sneer. Angrily, she crumpled up the map and angrily threw it to the ground. "I see…stupid drunk!" she snarled.
"What? What's wrong with it?" I asked, bending down and uncrumpling the paper. "Oh" I snorted at the overly simplified, drawn map—it was nothing more than mere scribbles that gave little to no information on where to go.
"Don't laugh, it's not funny!" the navigator snapped as I dropped the paper and shrugged my shoulders.
"It's a little funny, I mean, what did you expect from a drunk?" I asked.
"Whoa! Looks like Luffy's art!" Chopper remarked as soon as he scooped up the paper and saw the poorly drawn map.
"You know what? You're right, it really does" I agreed upon taken a second glance at the map.
"Okay" Luffy suddenly said, now holding up a sketchbook which contained an awful, childish drawing of what I could only assume was meant to be a man. "Let's try to find a shipwright that looks something like this" he brightly smiled.
"If I saw a guy like that, I'd run" Usopp deadpanned.
"I wouldn't just run, I'd jump into the sea to get away from that freak...but he looks part octopus, so even that might not save me..." Sanji mumbled.
"He looks like he needs to be put out of his misery" I whistled while following Zoro up the stairs and toward the front of the ship.
"Don't you have anything better to talk about?" Zoro asked.
"Okay, everybody!" Nami suddenly clapped her hands. "Since we're going to be at Water Seven for about a whole week, let me give you your allowance" she said, instantly catching the guys' attention.
"Me first! Me first!" Chopper excitedly jumped, waving his tiny arms in an attempt to catch the ginger's attention.
"Give me! Give me!" Usopp eagerly grinned as he and the others practically crowded around the woman in the blink of an eye. Once everyone received their allowance, they disbursed and went about their business—quickly doing their own thing as we patiently waited to arrive at the island.
"Why are you hugging the ship, Usopp?" Luffy suddenly asked, causing me to look up from where I was drawing patterns all over Zoro's clothed chest with my finger and toward the mast where the long-nosed pirate was currently hugging it.
"Better be careful or else you'll get a splinter..." I quietly warned.
"I know all these tin plates may not look like much to you, but they bring back some fond memories for me" Usopp answered as he hugged the ship tighter. "I almost hate to see them go, but it'll all be worth it if the Merry can finally get the repairs she needs" he softly smiled.
"I feel the same way, I'm proud of the battle scars—like anyone else—but she's taken a real beating since we've entered the Grand Line" Sanji remarked. "The deck squeaks and we got leaks popping up everywhere. Nobody wants to admit it, but if we don't fix this soon, we're as good as sunk" he pointed out.
"True..." I softly sighed before smiling as I gave the deck a gentle pat. "She's been through so much, it's rather admirable that she's still standing as is."
"Yeah, but even if we can't get a shipwright for the crew, we still have plenty of money" Luffy quickly assured us. "We can do more than fix her, we can power her up too" he grinned.
"Oh! Then let's get more cannons!" Usopp eagerly suggested.
"Yeah, and a big statue!" Luffy nodded.
"Again with the statue?" I muttered, rolling my eyes yet unable to stop the smile that tugged at my lips upon hearing the captain cheekily laugh in response.
"Hey, I think we're here" Zoro suddenly pointed, immediately catching everyone's attention as we turned our heads and looked out toward the city that could now be seen off in the distance.
"He's right! I can see Water Seven!" Luffy brightened. "Alright men, time to row!"
"The wind's enough, don't wear us out before we even get there" Sanji dismissively waved, seeing no reason for us to rush ourselves in getting to the island.
"Lovely" Robin soon praised the closer we got and the clearer the city became.
"Whoa" Zoro whistled.
"It's rather beautiful" I smiled, rather impressed by the stunning architecture of the city.
"Wow!" Nami awed.
"Nobody told me it was going to be this cool!" Luffy grinned. "Whoa! Check that thing out!" he excitedly exclaimed as he pointed toward the giant fountain positioned right in the center of the island. "I didn't know they made fountains that big!" he gawked, head tilting back as he took in just how massive the fountain was.
"That's nuts!" Usopp gaped. "I never seen anything like it..." he muttered in disbelief, just as amazed as the captain by the sheer size of the fountain.
"I thought the Sea Train was a big deal" Sanji whistled.
"Oh wow! That's a lot of water—do you think it all comes from the ocean?" Chopper curiously asked.
"That's what it seems like" Robin nodded. "Then it pours out of the top, goes through the channels, and back into the sea" she explained as she motioned toward the many channels connected to the fountain.
"I can certainly see why they call it the City of Water" I lowly whistled, quick to note just how prominent water seemed to be within the city from the giant fountain and its many channels to the many canals that lead through the island.
"Hey, once we get there, let's race on those water slides!" Luffy eagerly suggested.
"Water slides?" Chopper curiously questioned as he looked to the channels. It didn't take long before he started to cry, quickly yanking his hat down and over his eyes in the process. "I think I'll pass" he whimpered.
"Even if that was a water slide, you still can't swim" Zoro reminded the captain.
"He's right" I nodded. "Once you reach the bottom, you'd splash into the sea and drown or you'd probably just drown while going down the channel" I explained. "Either way, the end result wouldn't be pretty."
"Oh, good point" Luffy said, looking only a little disappointed. "Okay, but what if I wore some floaties, then could I do it?" he suddenly asked after a moment's thought, quickly perking up as he eagerly looked at me with wide eyes.
"Oh, then yeah, you'd be just fine" I grinned.
"By the way, do you have any idea what those numbers mean?" Zoro suddenly asked, motioning toward the closed line of shutters we were passing by as he ignored both the captain and me.
"Good question" Usopp said.
"They look like walls, but they could be some kind of gate" Sanji guessed.
"Duh! Those are special entrances where all the sixteen-foot shipwrights go in" Luffy said as if it was the most obvious answer.
"Obviously" I agreed as I threw an arm around the captain's shoulder, causing him to chuckle.
"How many of those guys do you think are out there?" Usopp frowned.
"At any rate, that's the station upfront" Nami pointed. "Must be the same one Kokoro was talking about—still, I wonder where the harbors at" she pondered, already starting to look around in search of a nearby harbor we could dock at.
"Inside the town maybe" Usopp suggested.
"I mean, that would be the most obvious place for it to be" I said.
"Hey, hold on!" a man suddenly called out to us from his fishing boat. "Pirates shouldn't sail in the front, you got to be more discreet! Use the backstreet entrance over there instead!" he suggested while pointing us in the direction of the backstreet he had mentioned.
"Oh, okay! Thank you!" Nami waved as we sailed toward the backstreet as the man suggested. "Whoa! Look, there are so many boats!" she pointed as we sailed through the city, already taking note of the multiple boats that now surrounded us.
"Awesome! The city's floating!" Luffy exclaimed. "Wonder how that works" he curiously pondered with the tilt of his head.
"But everything's flooded everywhere" Chopper immediately noted. "Aren't all the buildings going to be full of water?" he worriedly frowned, confused by the large amount of water that flowed through the entire city.
"Not at all" Robin shook her head. "The houses here were built with a submerged foundation in mind, if you look beneath the walkway, you'll understand" she explained.
"You're right! It's like the city's sitting on stilts!" Chopper gasped in awe the moment he looked down and saw what the woman meant.
"I see, certainly lives up to its name" Sanji nodded.
