-Chapter Two Hundred and Fifty-Eight-
"I've heard stories of a strange game between pirates that takes away crew members called a Davy Back Fight" Franky said.
"Yeah, we know" we said, not sounding too pleased at the thought that we were either going to run into Foxy and them again or another pirate crew that may possibly want to challenge us to a Davy Back Fight.
"But wait, does that mean they took the crew's flag too?" Chopper questioned.
"Seems so, the rules of that game did say the flag was free game along with the crew" I said as I crossed my arms.
"Whoa! Wait a minute, I see someone!" Usopp exclaimed the longer he looked towards the barren ship. "They're fishing—then they might be castaways! Pretty ragged and tired looking" he noted the longer he looked at the people on the ship.
"What do you think, captain?" Sanji asked.
"Right, let's go take a look, if they're enemies then we'll just beat them up" Luffy said as we sailed towards the ship. "Hey, are you guys okay over there?" the captain asked once we were close enough.
"They're pirates!" a bald-headed man cried out. "Pirates are here!" he fearfully screamed.
"What'd you say?" a man wearing a bandana asked.
"Run for it!" a heavy man cried out as he began to run around the ship in a panic.
"There's no wind" the bald-headed man pointed out.
"We don't have a sail anyway" a man with pigtails reminded them.
"We surrender! Spare our lives!" they all finally cried out.
"Okay" Luffy said.
"Oh man, your ship's in even worse shape than you guys are" Franky remarked now that he had a better look at the men's ship.
"Who are you and what are you doing out here?" Luffy curiously asked.
"Wouldn't the important question be what happened to them?" I raised an eyebrow.
"Oh, we're just fishermen down on our luck" the man with pigtails answered.
"You're fishermen?" Franky questioned in disbelief.
"Don't look like any fishermen I've ever seen" I muttered as I examined how the men were dressed.
"Yeah, we were minding our own business when our ship was attacked" the man with pigtails nodded. "That was three days ago, they stole all our food, destroyed the helm and sails, took all our valuables, and then left us here to die!" he cried. "We were stranded!" he wept at the memory.
"So if you're here to attack us, there's nothing left to take" the heavy man said.
"Don't worry, we're not here for that" Luffy assured him with the dismissive wave of his hand. "You guys must be pretty hungry, right? We're planning on having dinner soon—why don't you all come over and join us?" he suggested.
"What? Seriously?" the man with pigtails asked.
"Are you serious?" the bald-headed man questioned.
"Yeah, our cook would never ignore people as hungry as you guys" Luffy smiled. "Eat all you want to—hey, Sanji! Is it ready yet?! We're starving!" he shouted to the blond who had just exited the kitchen.
"Almost, just a few more minutes" Sanji answered. "But before all that—hey, Chopper, how about checking these guys over to help break in that new office" he grinned which caused a small smile to tug at my lips as I peered down at the reindeer.
"Yeah, sure" Chopper nodded. "If anyone's injured or feeling sick, come along with me—is there anyone on board who can't move?" he asked.
"Holy crap, their pet can talk!" the man with pigtails gawked.
"I'm not a pet! I'm a pirate, you got that?!" Chopper snapped as he suddenly grew big. "I got a bounty of 50 belis…50 belis..." he quickly grew depressed as he remembered that. It wasn't long until Chopper was finished with treating the men who weren't too badly injured before we all crowded into the kitchen and began to eat.
"Delicious! This food is amazing, Mr. Eyebrow Cook!" the man with pigtails praised as I snorted at the nickname he had given Sanji.
"So good, I can't stop the tears!" the bald-headed man cried.
"Crybabies, geez" Nami rolled her eyes.
"Ah! And lovely pirate ladies too!" the man with pigtails exclaimed as I shifted around in my spot between Nami and Robin.
"Whoa! You're right, they're so beautiful—I can't stop the tears!" the bald-headed man cried once more as my ears perked up to the low growl that left Zoro's throat.
"It seems you're right" Robin said as Nami leaned towards me.
"Seems your man's getting a bit worked up" she whispered in a teasing tone.
"Don't remind me, that's why I'm sitting with you two—I don't need him to molest me in public anymore then he already does" I whispered back to her as she snickered before growing annoyed with the crying men.
"Ugh! I wish they wouldn't cry so loud" she grumbled as Zoro finished eating, his movements coming off a bit more aggressive than usual.
"What? You're headed for the New World?" the man with pigtails questioned after discovering our destination.
"I wouldn't do that if I were you, I won't go into details, but that place is hell" the bald-headed man said which caused me to raise an eyebrow.
"Huh? Hey, wait—you mean you guys have been there?" Luffy curiously asked.
"Thought you said you were fishermen" I tilted my head.
"Uh...no, we haven't been there" the man with pigtails shook his head.
"We've just heard about it—stories from other sailors, they said it was a terrible place" the bald-headed man said, quick to backtrack and reiterate what he had said.
"Idiots" the heavy man grumbled.
"I don't care about stories like that, we won't know for sure if its hell or not unless we go" Luffy said before his head perked up upon the sound of laughter that came from outside. "What was that?" he asked.
"Oh! Hey there, friend, you really saved us with that food—so I wanted to do something in return, thank you" a man with a small tuff a blond hair said when he spotted us peeking outside. "My name's Stansen, and under current circumstances, I'm acting as captain" he told us before throwing a barrel towards Zoro. "It's a special drink we save for times like this, enjoy yourselves" he grinned.
"Thanks" Zoro nodded and it wasn't long before I found myself staring down at the drink handed to me, silently watching as everyone else around me chugged as much as they could without a second thought.
"You really don't like drinking, do you?" Nami asked the minute she spotted my untouched drink.
"Quite frankly, I find it disgusting" I said while pushing my cup towards Zoro when I noticed he had finished his own—there were many reasons why I didn't like alcohol from the taste to the drunk of a mother I had growing up.
"Man, you are a strange bunch of guys" Zoro said as he happily took the drink I pushed towards him and chugged it.
"Seriously, you don't have anything to eat, but you have tons of this stuff?" Usopp questioned.
"Yeah, well...anyway, this food is great—we were lucky to run into you guys when we did!" Stansen brightened. "Especially way out here" he said.
"It's no big deal" Luffy said.
"But it is, if we can only go back to where we came from, we'd be able to give you a better reward than this!" Stansen argued.
"You're not fooling anyone, the truth is you want us to help you get there, don't you?" Sanji questioned from his spot next to the sink.
"You got me, is it that obvious?" Stansen asked.
"Look, I get it, it's fine—we'll take you, don't worry" Luffy smiled.
"Seriously?! Thank you!" Stansen thanked as he expressed his gratitude through the slight bow of his head.
"Now, wait a minute, Luffy—what about the Log Pose?" Nami asked. "If we change course now and don't go to Fishman Island, we'll be screwed" she frowned.
"If we drop them off real quick, it shouldn't be a problem, right?" Luffy asked. "Come on, it'll be fine, it'll all work out in the end" he smiled.
"Are you saying that to get her to quit arguing or because you actually believe everything will work out?" I raised an eyebrow as our captain's smile only widen while he cheekily laughed. "That didn't answer my question at all" I sweat dropped.
"Your crew is lucky to have such an understanding captain" Stansen said. "Alright then, I place our care in your hands" and with that, we attached their ship to the back of ours and set sail, pulling them close behind.
"I'd like to propose a toast in honor of your good fortune and journey back" Usopp said. "Here's to a safe return!" he smiled as he held his cup up.
"I'll drink to that!" Luffy grinned, holding his cup up as well.
"Cheers!" everyone laughed as I only hummed, smiling as I watched everyone enjoy themselves. It wasn't long before night fell and mostly everyone was passed out asleep. I was just barely able to keep myself awake, my eyes closed while I gently tapped my foot against the wooden floorboards as I rested my chin against the palm of my hand. It wasn't long before I opened my eyes a crack and peer towards Zoro when he yawned as he now stood near the door before making his way over to me and throwing a coat in my direction.
"Thanks" I mumbled the minute the coat hit and landed on top of my head, reaching for it, I slipped it on. It was warm and black with fuzz attached to the hood, arms holes, and bottom. He only hummed as he pulled on a coat of his own and we walked outside onto the deck.
"Freezing" Zoro remarked as he threw an arm over my shoulders. "Come on, haven't you taken care of these morons yet?" he asked.
"I knew there was something suspicious about all this" Nami grumbled, dragging a sleeping Usopp and Luffy behind her. "Seriously, you look more like a bunch of thugs then fishermen, geez—did you really think you could fool us?" she asked. "We're way too smart for that" she huffed.
"Well, most of us are" I said, peering down at the two sleeping pirates.
"So what now, Stansen?" the bald-headed man asked.
"We're screwed!" the man with pigtails grounded out.
"Now, you better start talking!" Nami angrily demanded.
"It seems you left us no choice—retreat!" Stansen shouted as he ran away.
"What?!" all his men asked before they too quickly jumped ship.
"Get back here!" Franky shouted.
"Cowards!" Sanji snapped.
"Dammit! If you guys don't want to talk, then I'll just have to blast you!" Franky frowned as he now took aim towards the men in the water that were swimming away and back towards their own ship.
"Forget about them" Nami said, holding a hand up to stop the cyborg. "Just let them go, we have other things to worry about, like Chopper—I can't find him anywhere" she worriedly frowned.
"Come to think of it, he wasn't with us when we were eating" I muttered as I thought back to dinner. "Oh, I hope he's alright" I worriedly said.
"What? Chopper? Yeah, where is he?" Sanji inquired as he now started to look around. "You don't think something happened to him, do you?" he asked.
"He may have been abducted by those fake fishermen" Robin suggested.
"I hate to say it, but I think you're right" Nami sighed.
"Sneaky bastards" Franky frowned.
"How dare they! Who do they think they are?!" I glared. "They better not have hurt him!" I huffed.
"It's just a hunch at this point, but boarding their ship will be the fastest way to get to the bottom of this—let's get moving, the wind's starting to pick up, we'll be getting a storm anytime now" Nami said as she motioned for us to follow.
"Before we go, we need to figure out what to do with these two" Zoro said as I poked at Luffy's cheek with the tip of my shoe.
"Wake them up I would assume" I said.
"Those nitwits!" Nami growled as she breathed onto her fist. "Wake up!" she snapped as she violently hit the two awake.
"Man, I'm freezing my butt off here" Luffy shivered.
"Cold, but that doesn't explain why my head hurts so much" Usopp shivered as well before the two of them loudly sneezed. "Sneaky crybabies, we lend them a hand and all they do is kidnap Chopper" the sharpshooter frowned after he and Luffy were caught up on the situation.
"Chopper!" Luffy called out. "Hey! There you are—what have you done with Chopper?!" he frowned when he spotted the men now on their ship.
"Straw Hat captain, I sincerely apologize for abusing your hospitality, but this is where we part ways" Stansen said.
"Wait, what?" Luffy owlishly blinked. "Hey, hold on! What do you think you're doing?! Stop!" he snapped when the blond suddenly raised a sword, looking about ready to cut the ropes that attached our two ships.
"This is bad, he's going to cut the two ropes that connect our ships" Sanji frowned.
"What?!" we shouted.
"Dammit, wait! Now Gum Gum Pistol!" Luffy shot his arm towards the man.
"Devil Fruit powers? Sorry, but it's time for you to go!" Stansen shouted as he brought the sword down, only for it to be stopped by Robin using her powers. "What the...?" he owlishly blinked as he stared at the disembodied arms in bafflement
"Nice work, Robin" Luffy praised.
"Way to go!" Nami cheered.
