-Chapter Two Hundred and Fifty-Nine-
"Another crew member with Devil Fruit powers?" Stansen questioned, clearly looking taken aback.
"Music?" Usopp muttered the second the sound of music started to suddenly play and echo through the air. "Hey, you guys hearing what I'm hearing? It's coming from this way" he said as he pointed in the direction that the music was coming from.
"I hear it too, weird" Nami frowned.
"Where's it coming from though?" I asked as I began to look around, squinting my eyes in an attempt to see if there was anything really around us that could be making such a sound.
"Something's coming" Zoro pointed out.
"No way! The Marines are here!" Usopp screamed the moment he spotted the Marine ships that were heading towards us.
"What?!" we shouted.
"How the hell did they track us down so fast?!" Zoro grounded out through clenched teeth.
"Perfect, just what we need" Sanji frowned.
"No!" Usopp fearfully cried out.
"How could they have possibly known our location? There's barely anything out here" I frowned, confused on how the Marines could have even bothered learning where we were when there wasn't anyone out this way that could have tipped them off to our location and I doubt there were any bases this far out.
"Get us out of here, Nami!" Luffy ordered.
"Go away!" Usopp cried before screaming when the sound of explosions suddenly sounded out as if they were already beginning to fire at us. "We're under attack! They're shooting at us! Nami, hurry, they're going to blow us to bits!" he frantically shouted.
"I know, I know—stop yelling!" Nami snapped. "Sanji!" she called out to the blond who had already taken his place at the steering wheel.
"Aye! Aye!" Sanji nodded as he started to turn the wheel.
"More Marines dead ahead!" Zoro called out from the lion's head where both he and Luffy stood.
"Nami, do something!" Luffy shouted.
"Quick! Turn left!" Nami ordered.
"Right!" Sanji nodded.
"What?! No way!" Nami gaped the minute more Marine ships appear. "There too?! They're everywhere!" she cried out in distress
"It's like they're just appearing out of thin air" I muttered, baffled by the sight of so many Marines this far out.
"You're kidding? We're screwed!" Zoro frowned.
"That's a lot of boats!" Luffy gawked.
"No! We're surrounded!" Nami cried out the moment she noticed that the ships had gathered all around us and were now blocking us in.
"Holy crap! Nami, help us!" Usopp cried as he clung to her legs. "Do something!" he pleaded.
"Shut up already! I'm doing the best I can!" she irritably snapped.
"Nami, take a look! Over there!" Sanji suddenly shouted as he pointed towards an opening in the Marines formation—one just big enough that we'd easily be able to fit right on through.
"What is it? An escape route?" Nami inquired as she walked over to the railing to get a closer look, dragging Usopp behind her as he continued to cling to one of her legs.
"What? Where?! Where?!" Usopp frantically asked as he scrambled to stand up. "Let me see! Hey, you're right—think we can make it?!" he asked, sounding almost desperate for an answer.
"Go for it!" Nami ordered.
"Roger!" Sanji nodded as he prepared to do as he was told.
"Nami, wait" I frowned.
"What? What's wrong, Skylar?" Nami asked.
"Don't you find it a bit strange that the Marines would leave such a huge opening despite bringing this much reinforcements?" I questioned, motioning around us at the large number of ships that currently surrounded us. "Don't you think such a mistake is too big of a coincidence?" I asked.
"Well, maybe they haven't realized that they've made such a mistake yet" Usopp suggested before yelping when the ship suddenly started to tilt.
"Hey, what's wrong?" Luffy asked as I now found myself clinging onto the ship's railing.
"The wind, it changed direction! It can't hold the helm!" Nami gasped as the ship now started to roughly rock back and forth.
"We're done for!" Usopp cried as he was roughly thrown around.
"Damn! I can't get her to turn!" Sanji cursed when he realized that the wheel wasn't turning at all.
"Move it!" Franky harshly pushed Sanji out of the way as he now took hold of the wheel.
"Bastard! What are you doing?!" Sanji angrily snapped, irritated that the cyborg had so rudely pushed him aside.
"Forget already?" Franky grinned. "It's like I told you before, the Soldier Dock System was made for situations like this—Channel Zero: Activated" he spun the wheel all the way to the number zero and pulled the lever. "Cola Engine: Paddle Sunny! Go!" and just like that, we were starting to move.
"Alright! We got away!" Luffy cheered.
"Yeah, and all the Marines can do is sit back and watch!" Usopp happily laughed.
"You got that right—this boat's faster than anything they got, right?" Franky asked. "Super!" he proudly grinned.
"Skylar, what's with that look on your face?" Nami questioned once she spotted the frown I wore as I looked back towards the Marine ships we were now leaving behind. Why didn't they speak or attempt to stop us from advancing forward? They were just sitting there like ducks...like...like they weren't even really there to begin with. But they had to be, that many ships couldn't have been a trick of the eye or anything...right?
"It's nothing" I slowly shook my head, giving a small smile as I decided not to voice my thoughts—there was no point in worrying the others seeing how we did safely getaway in the end...but still. It wasn't too long before we made our way back to those "fishermen's" boat—which we had gotten separated from when we were escaping from those Marines—and started to look around once more for our missing friend.
"Chopper?! Where are you?!" Luffy shouted as we looked around the empty deck of the ship. "Hey, Chopper! We're here to get you back!" he called out when he got no response.
"Come on out, sweetie! There's no need to be afraid!" I shouted, attempting to encourage the reindeer to speak up.
"If you can hear me, say something!" Luffy continued to shout as well. "Hey! Stop hiding, Chopper!" he took a step forward, only to quickly be stopped by a blond-haired man pointing his sword right at him.
"Don't move! If you take one more step I'll—"
"Enough!" Stansen interrupted as he lightly pushed the man aside. "Captain Straw Hat! Please, please forgive me!" he practically begged as he dropped to his hands and knees.
"Stop that! Why are you begging to them?!" the blond angrily snapped.
"Shut up! My apologies, I'm sorry I was so rude and for deceiving you" Stansen apologized once more after shooting the blond beside him a harsh glare. "On our behalf, I beg for your forgiveness!" he continued to plead.
"I don't care about any of that" Luffy frowned. "We came here for one reason only, to get Chopper back, right?" he asked.
"Yep" I nodded my head along with Nami.
"Grow a backbone already" Sanji scoffed as he put out his cigarette while Franky began to crack his knuckles.
"I haven't seen him" Stansen truthfully told us. "But I'd be more than happy to help you look for him if he's not on your ship—"
"Luffy!" Chopper's loud voice cut the man off as the reindeer came running up on deck.
"Chopper! We've been looking for you everywhere!" Luffy smiled.
"I'm glad he's alright" I sighed in relief.
"Come on, let's get out of here!" Luffy grinned before being taken aback when a child suddenly rushed up on deck.
"I—"
"Hold on!" the boy shouted before Chopper could get a word out. "We still need him here—if the doctor leaves now, he's done for!" he frantically cried.
"Huh? Who is?" Luffy asked, tilting his head in confusion as he didn't really know what the boy was talking about.
"I won't let you take him! No matter what!" the child angrily cried out as he grabbed hold of a broom and pointed it right towards us as if silently threatening to use it like a weapon.
"Hold on" Luffy frowned.
"There's no need to get so violent" I said.
"Jiro! Wait!" Chopper worriedly exclaimed when the child suddenly rushed forward towards Luffy, holding the broom up high as if he was ready to strike.
"Stop it, Jiro!" the man with pigtails demanded as he and the bald-headed man both stopped the child in his tracks before he could get too close to the rubber man.
"No!" Jiro growled, already beginning to kick and struggle against the two men.
"Stop it! You'll get yourself killed!" the man with pigtails snapped.
"I don't care, I'm not afraid of dying! You hear me?!" Jiro frowned as he continued to struggle against the two men. "I'm not a coward like the rest of you—I'll fight him! No matter how strong the enemy is, I'll keep fighting! I'll win or die trying!" he cried. "Let me go!" he angrily choked out.
"Chopper, what's going on? What's his problem?" Luffy asked.
"Listen, Luffy" Chopper said. "I hate to ask, but I'd like to stay on this ship just a little bit longer—there's someone here who's badly wounded" he admitted. "I treated him and he's stable, but he still needs my attention. Please, let me look after him until he regains consciousness at least" he begged.
"Sure, you got it! We can wait a bit!" Luffy smiled, not seeing any problems in letting the reindeer stay and do his job as a doctor.
-Next Day-
I yawned as I stepped out onto the deck, tiredly rubbing at my eyes as I peered around at the icebergs that now surrounded us.
"Morning" I tiredly said to Nami and Sanji who both seemed quite busy in trying to carefully navigate through the icebergs.
"Morning, my sweet darling Skylar!" Sanji cooed, his one visible eye turning into a heart when he peeked a glance back towards me before he once again focused his attention back on steering.
"Morning" Nami greeted before owlishly blinking as a sly smile slowly stretched across her lips. "Looks like you had a fun night last night" she teasingly chuckled while motioning towards the multiple hickeys that littered the flesh of my neck.
"Don't remind me..." I embarrassingly grumbled, already thinking back to the events that led up to the mountain of hickeys that adored my flesh.
"Zoro, stop it!"
"What? I'm just trying to cuddle with you!"
"Grabbing my sides is not cuddling! You know that damn well!"
"What are—ow! What the hell?! Did you just bite me?!"
"Maybe…wait, Zoro! I'm sorry—please, have mercy!"
"Damn swordsman" I grumbled, rubbing at my tender neck before finally pulling the collar of my coat further up in some desperate attempt to hide the bite marks. "Don't laugh, it's not funny! Do you know how long these take to heal?!" I snapped at Nami the minute I heard her laughter. In a way, I'm glad she only saw the ones on my neck and not the large amount that also littered my collarbone. Zoro got really into the biting last night.
"But it is" Nami argued, covering her mouth in some vague attempt to stifle her laugher as she looked away from my embarrassed face.
"No, it's not! Thank god he fell asleep last night before anything could escalate any further!" I cried out in embarrassment, pleased that his desire for sleep and cuddling was stronger than anything else. It wasn't too long before the others finally woke up and began to pile out onto the deck.
"The icebergs are moving on their own?" Usopp questioned after hearing what Nami and Sanji had to say.
"Come on, don't be ridiculous" Zoro scoffed. "There's no way that can happen" he frowned.
"Ridiculous or not, something strange is going on here" Robin said.
"She's right, they are moving and not in the same direction as the sea current—whatever's making it happen isn't natural" Nami frowned.
"How is something like that even possible?" Usopp asked.
"Come on, you don't really expect us to believe this crap?" Franky raised an eyebrow.
"I mean, she doesn't really have any reason to make something like this up" I said. "But that doesn't mean that it still doesn't sound silly" I mumbled, not fully believing what she was saying myself.
"Fine! See for yourselves—Sanji, demonstrate!" Nami ordered.
"Sure!" the blond nodded, his one visible eye turning into a heart as he did what the woman demanded and the minute he attempted to turn the ship in a different direction, an iceberg suddenly came shooting towards us along with another one until both were now blocking our path.
"What's going on here?" Usopp nervously asked.
"Seems like the ice doesn't want us to proceed" I said.
"Again?" Sanji frowned, angrily spinning the wheel in an attempt to dodge the icebergs in front of us.
"Well, would you look at that, cheeky little bastards" Franky said as another iceberg blocked our path completely. Zoro was the first to react as he jumped on top of the iceberg and cut it in half.
"Nothing but ice, top to bottom" he called down to us, making it clear that these were in a way still just normal icebergs.
"If I hadn't had seen it, I wouldn't believe it—it's almost like they're making a path" Usopp said.
"And yet they're normal icebergs, very strange indeed" Robin remarked.
"Ever since that run-in with the Marines, it's like there's some sort of force to guide us to a specific place" Nami said.
"This is all so weird" I sighed with the shake of my head. "But if they're doing exactly that, I wonder where it is they're wanting us to go" I pondered.
"I don't know who's responsible for this crap, but they got some nerve!" Franky huffed as he struck a pose. "Whoever it is, I ain't scared! Bring it!" he puffed out his chest as he seemed to just loudly challenge whoever it was that was messing with us.
"Well first, before you fight them, we have to figure out who they are" Nami said before yelping as the ship started to viciously shake, ice now shooting out of the water and cutting the rope that had connected our ship with the other one.
"Luffy! Chopper!" Sanji shouted as our two ships now started to get further away from one another.
"They'll be fine on their own, we need to take care of the ship" Nami assured the blond as she stopped Usopp, who was rolling around on the deck, with her foot.
"Leave it to me!" Sanji cooed as his visible eye turned into a heart once more.
"We're being surrounded by them! Hard to starboard now!" Nami ordered.
"Aye, aye! Hard to starboard!" Sanji echoed.
"It's no use, they're still coming! Hard to port!" the ginger now ordered.
"Careful!" Usopp shouted when he noticed that part of the ship was roughly scraping against one of the icebergs.
"It's almost like they have a mind of their own" I said as I watched how the icebergs continued to make their way towards us—continued in their attempts to block us from straying from the path that they had laid out before us.
"They're all gathering together" Robin pointed out.
"Dammit! Sanji, watch where you're going!" Usopp snapped when he saw that the ship was beginning to take more damage.
"Ah, crap! The rudders not responding!" the blond grounded out just as we all spotted the whirlpool we were now heading towards.
"It's not the rudder—take a look over there!" Nami pointed. "Since those icebergs had blocked the current, they're causing whirlpools to form!" she gasped.
"Whirlpools too?! What the hell is wrong with this sea?!" Usopp cried as we all frantically began to work to get to safety.
"I can't believe you! Sneaking a peek at Nami's butt during all of the commotion!" Sanji angrily snapped as he beat up on Usopp after everything had calmed down and we were now safely away from any sort of danger.
"I don't think that's what he was trying to do" I sweat dropped.
"You switched over to the paddles, something wrong?" Franky asked as he came back up on deck.
"Franky? Where have you been?" Nami asked.
"I was refilling our supply of cola in the energy room" the cyborg answered. "I got a feeling, if I'm right, it'll defiantly come in handy soon" he said.
"That's great and all, but with these moving icebergs, it doesn't matter—we're stuck here! We're going to be trapped in this stupid place for the rest of our lives!" Usopp wailed.
"Come on now, you're overreacting" I softly huffed.
"Don't worry, we'll figure something out soon" Nami assured the long-nosed pirate.
"Come on, you make it sound like those icebergs are a big deal" Franky scoffed.
