-Chapter Two Hundred and Seventy-One-
"I don't know, he kind of just disappeared on me all of a sudden" I answered.
"Then it looks like he wasn't able to make it out, I didn't see him anywhere" Franky said. "Probably because he's wearing that stupid armor, he blends in with the rest of them" he grumbled in annoyance.
"That might be it, unless…" I trailed off as we all stopped and looked back.
"Unless? Wait, you don't think he disappeared too, do ya?" Franky asked.
"It's not a good idea to wait and find out, those zombies will catch up to us any second" Robin said.
"Hey, Straw Hat!" Franky shouted.
"Ah! This sucks!" we perked up the moment we heard Luffy's muffled scream coming from above us.
"What the...?" Franky questioned as I felt my body tense up upon the sight of spider webs that engulfed the coffin that came swinging by.
"Let me go, you bastards! Open up this coffin and let me out!" Luffy's muffled voice demanded from inside the coffin that wildly swung back and forth as if to showcase that he was struggling around inside of it.
"Is that a coffin?" Franky frowned.
"You're going to regret this!" Luffy muffledly snapped.
"That voice..." Robin muttered.
"It's Luffy!" I gasped. "But...how'd he get in there?" I frowned.
"Whoa! Wait, you mean Straw Hat's inside that thing?" Franky asked just as the coffin was starting to disappear out of sight, being carried away through an opening in the side of one of the buildings. "Come on, Robin! Skylar! After it!" he cyborg ordered as he motioned for us to follow after him the minute he took off running after the coffin.
"Right!" Robin and I nodded.
"What are you doing in that box, dumbass?! Why did you go and get yourself caught like that?!" Franky snapped. "Hey! Straw Hat!" he shouted when he didn't receive an answer.
"That's far enough!" we came to a screeching halt upon hearing the high-pitched, scratchy voice that called out from behind us. Curiously looking back towards its owner, I felt every muscle in my body tense up as my eyes widened upon the sight of the monstrosity before us—the words that flew from its lips meant nothing to me as I drunk in the sight of its body from head to toe. From the monkey head, paws, and tail to the...to the...the...
"Sp-sp-sp-spider!" I screamed.
-Everyone's P.O.V-
Robin and Franky flinched upon hearing the high-pitched scream that left the brunette's lips, both watching in surprise as her head frantically swirled around in all directions—her wide, frantic eyes shining with fear and desperation as she looked for an escape route. Looked for a place to run to in hopes of putting distance between her and the abomination before her, it wasn't long before she thickly swallowed down the saliva that had built up inside her mouth the moment she saw that there was really only one possible route for her to take.
"Skylar, wait!" Robin called out to the brunette the second she mowed her way down the walkway, harshly sliding underneath one of the gaps of the spider monkey's legs before scrambling to stand and leaving the area completely. Her eyes screwed shut and her head tilted down as she ran as fast as her legs would carry her.
"Never thought I'd see another person run that fast in heels other than Nami" Franky whistled, amazed that the brunette hadn't twisted her ankle—sure, the heels to her boots weren't that big, but he was quite aware that the teen usually wore shoes with a flat bottom, never anything with a heel to it.
"I know she said she had Arachnophobia, but I didn't think it would be this bad..." Robin mumbled, silently watching as the confused spider monkey peered back in the direction that the teenager had run off in before softly whispering silent orders to a few of the rat spiders around him, motioning for them to follow after the brunette.
-Skylar's P.O.V-
The minute I found myself out of sight from that…that thing, I dropped to my knees—my head drooping and eyes closing as I tried to control my shaking. Panting, a sucked in sharp breaths of air in an attempt to get my breathing under control as I rested a gentle hand against my chest and felt my rapid heartbeat. Taking a chance, I hesitantly lifted my head and looked around to really make sure that abomination was nowhere to be seen before sudden realization struck me as I smacked the palm of my hand against my forehead.
"Idiot! Getting scared over a…over a...how could you leave Franky and Robin alone to deal with that thing?!" I scolded myself as I angrily hit myself upside the head for allowing my fear to take hold of me. Heaving a sigh, I slowly pushed myself up onto shaky legs as my arms instantly wrapped themselves around my body as if I was attempting to comfort myself. Nervously did I look up and down the hallway that I had found myself in, desperately attempting to gather my bearings and figure out where I had blindly ended up. "I need to go back...no matter how much I really don't want to...I have to go back.
"They might need help or something...but first…where am I...?" I nervously mumbled when I realized that I had no idea where I was and it didn't help that either end of the hall looked exactly the same. Neither end looked different, both were nothing more than a long stretch of hallway that was barely lit by the moonlight that seeped in through any windows or open doorways. Heaving a sigh, I chose to just pick a random direction and walked in it, silently praying that I had chosen the right direction and that it would lead me back to where the other two were. Quietly did I walk, and the further along I got, the more I felt the guilt start to eat away at me as my head drooped and I slowly became depressed. "I'm sorry..." I sadly repeated over and over to no one in particular, feeling worse by the minute before suddenly I halted as a shiver raced up my spine upon the feeling of tingles shooting up my leg as if something hairy was slowly crawling up it.
"A-a-ah!" I screamed upon the sight of the rat spider that crookedly smiled up at me and waved one of its many spider legs—lowly snickering to itself as if it found my fear amusing. Aggressively did I kick my leg out, wildly shaking it around until the creature finally went flying halfway across the hall and painfully smashed into the wall—standing up in a daze, it soon began to squeak in anger at me. I wasted no time in turning on my heel as I was once again tearing through the halls, fear pumping adrenaline through my veins and making me forget about what I originally planned to do as I desperately now only thought about getting away from the strange rat-spider abomination.
-Later-
"Where...where am...am I now...?" I heavily panted out, leaning my body forward as I rested my hands on my knees—desperately trying to catch my breath. Everything ached, from my legs to my lungs thanks to all the running I had been doing and it didn't help how drained I now felt as the adrenaline that had been coursing through my veins was slowly beginning to go away and leave nothing behind but the desire to just sit and rest. How quickly fear could tire one out.
"Skylar?" my head shot up the moment I heard Chopper and Usopp's voices questioningly call out to me as if both were surprised to suddenly see me.
"Chopper? Usopp?" I questioned before stopping as I now tried to process the odd sight before me—there was a man with a lion's maw running around as he tried to avoid being kissed by a warthog in a wedding dress, there were a lot of zombie animals just hanging around, and then finally, there were the three crew members we had come to this island to rescue in the first place. I gasped the moment I spotted the three, rushing straight past the man and warthog which startled the two for a moment as I flung myself at Nami and encased her in a tight hug.
"Whoa! Skylar!" Nami cried out in surprise as she tried her best to keep herself from falling over before hugging me back. "What's going into you?" she softly frowned.
"I'm so glad you're all alright!" I exclaimed as I tightly squeezed her which caused her to groan for a moment. "We've all been so worried about you three! Don't go disappearing on us like that again!" I huffed as I finally pulled back and held her out at arm's length.
"Yeah, we're alright, but...what's wrong?" Nami worriedly asked. "You look pale" she noted with the tilt of her head.
"I…I...I saw a spider..." I embarrassingly admitted, blushing at how silly the whole ordeal sounded before my shoulders suddenly slumped and I grew depressed as I remembered what I had done. "But...I ended up abandoning Robin and Franky...I'm a terrible friend..." I sadly muttered, eyes watery and wavy as I looked up at the ginger.
"What?! No—don't get depressed!" Nami wildly shook her head as she quickly started to comfortably rub my back as if she didn't need me getting emotional on her and the others right now. "Look on the bright side, at least you found us! So smile!" she exclaimed as she grabbed my face and tried to force my lips up into a smile as if that would help in making me feel better. "How can you protect us if you're all depressed?!" she asked, voice strained as I began to struggle in her hold.
"Nami, that hurts! Quit it!" I snapped as I knocked her hands away and rubbed at my cheeks, no longer thinking about what had led me to finding the three and instead now just glaring at the ginger that innocently smiled at me.
"You don't give up" my ears perked up as I now curiously looked towards the warthog and the man she had been trying to kiss this entire time, the two having gone back to their antics at some point after I had startled them.
"Um...what is all of this exactly?" I asked, motioning towards the strange mess before us—motioning towards what I could only assume was a lovers quarrel or something of that nature based on the wedding dress the warthog wore.
"It's a long story, don't ask" Nami muttered.
"Same to you" the strange man panted.
"Then let's get married!" the warthog eagerly exclaimed as if just the man agreeing with her was enough proof in her eyes that he was a good fit for her.
"Could you be any more dense?" he angrily snapped.
"Surprise Kiss!" once again did the warthog try to kiss him, practically tackling him to the ground where he just barely was able to avoid her lips.
"Alright, that's enough! You've made me mad!" he snarled as he suddenly picked her up off him and violently threw her in both mine and Nami's direction.
"What?!" Nami gasped, already beginning to freak out the moment she saw the hateful look in the warthog's eyes.
"You wicked Cat Burglar! You'll pay for stealing Master Absalom's greatest treasure!" the sow sneered the moment she caught sight of the ginger.
"Nami!" Usopp and Chopper worriedly cried.
"Nami, what the hell did you steal to piss her off so much?!" I asked, taken aback by the warthog's sudden aggression and anger which was so much different from the determination and adoration she was showing towards the strange man—Absalom I believe she called him.
"I didn't steal anything!" Nami argued as I gave her a look of doubt. "Don't give me that look!" she snapped.
"She found her!" Absalom cried out.
"Found her? You practically threw her at her!" I snapped, not understanding why the man was freaking out when he's the one that tossed the sow right at the ginger.
"Me? Treasure? Hold on, I know I'm a pirate and all, but I haven't stolen anything yet!" Nami tried to explain herself as she nervously began to back away from the warthog that towered over her.
"You stole his heart and now I'm going to tear yours out of your chest!" the warthog snarled as she raised an ax high in the air...huh, wonder when she got that.
"Watch out!" Chopper screamed.
"No, it's too late!" Usopp cried.
"Look, I don't know what Nami did to piss you off so much, but I'm not just going to stand here and let you hurt her!" I glared as I protectively stepped in front of the navigator, tightly gripping the hilt of one of my swords as I prepared to draw it."You want to rip her heart out, then you're going have to go through me first!" I huffed.
"Fine! If you want to die with her then that's fine with me!" the warthog sneered as she prepared to swing the ax down towards both Nami and me, only to be taken aback as a penguin with the face of a bulldog suddenly jumped in the way and broke the ax in half.
"You won't lay a hand on these ladies!" the penguin-bulldog proclaimed.
"Shut your mouth and get out of my way!" the warthog snapped.
"Dogguin!" Chopper gasped.
"Pendog!" Usopp shouted.
"Which is it?" I asked before wincing as the warthog ruthlessly started to attack the penguin-bulldog with harsh punches before sending it flying back towards the building.
"That looks bad" Usopp winced.
"Are you okay?" Chopper worriedly asked.
"Why didn't he try to fight back?" Usopp curiously pondered.
"I already told you, even if it kills me, I'll never kick a woman" the penguin-bulldog groaned which caught my attention, for a second there, he almost sounded exactly like Sanji.
"Awesome speech!" Chopper clapped.
"I got to admit, you're a true gentleman to see that thing as a woman" Usopp clapped as well.
"What did you say?!" the warthog snapped, clearly insulted by what the sharpshooter had said.
"What?" I owlishly blinked upon suddenly feeling someone snake their arm around my waist before they carelessly threw me over their shoulder like I was nothing more than a sack of potatoes. When I attempted to get a look at my sudden kidnapper, I saw nothing but empty air along with Nami's floating body which appeared as if she was being carried under the mysterious person's arm.
"Guys, help us!" Nami frantically shouted as she began to struggle against the mystery person's hold.
"I'll be taking my bride and this lovely lady as well, thank you very much" I heard Absalom say...was he the one carrying us? Why couldn't we see him? Did he have a Devil Fruit power? That was really the only logical explanation as to why I couldn't see him at all.
"Nami? Skylar? You guys can fly?!" Usopp gaped.
"Awesome!" he and Chopper exclaimed.
"Yes, we're flying and we've waited this long to tell you two" I sarcastically responded, pinching the bridge of my nose.
"Idiots! We're being abducted here!" Nami snapped.
"Huh? By who?" Chopper tilted his head.
"Hey, come back!" Usopp shouted as he and Chopper now came chasing after us.
"We'll hold the wedding ceremony immediately, oh, and preparations have already been made!" I could practically hear the grin in Absalom's voice as he dreamingly spoke of a wedding between him and Nami. Surely it was Nami who he was referring to as his lovely bride since this was my first time meeting him.
"If you're marrying Nami, then why kidnap me as well?!" I snapped.
"As my mistress, of course" Absalom said as if it was the most obvious thing in the world.
"As your what?!" I felt my eye twitched as my blood began to boil—was he being serious? Did he seriously plan on marrying one woman and take another as his mistress this early? Hell, at least some men were modest enough to wait a year or two into the marriage before even considering taking a mistress.
"You're that invisible pervert from the shower, aren't you?" Nami growled as we both began to hit the invisible man.
"Let us go!" we angrily snapped.
"Whoa! I guess he really is invisible, huh?" Usopp questioned.
"Nami! Skylar!" Chopper cried out.
"I was sizing you up, in short, I determined that you're fit to be my bride" Absalom explained as if trying to excuse his perverted actions. "As for you, my lovely flower, you will make the perfect mistress—you both may call me Absalom, it's the name of your future husband and lover, so remember it well you two" he said as he finally turned visible.
"Goes to show just how unfaithful men can be..." I grumbled. "By the way, buddy, I'm already spoken for!" I sneered.
"You got a lot of nerve looking at me naked and acting like you own me—I don't keep myself in shape so some sick perv can drool over me!" Nami growled as she grabbed hold of her Clima Takt while I grabbed one of my swords. "So don't treat me like a piece of meat, you animal!" she snapped, harshly pushing her weapon hard against the man's chest as electricity started to build up inside it. "Thunder Charge!" and with that, the impact was enough to blow us both away from him.
"Nami! Skylar!" Usopp worriedly cried out as he and Chopper quickly made their way over towards us. "Great job! Now, keep running, don't stop! We got to get out of this forest!" he shouted the moment he noticed that we were fine.
"What happened? Even after all that, he's still standing up!" Nami gaped as we looked back at the man who was still standing.
"You're right, shouldn't he be on the ground? That was quite a nasty shock" I frowned.
"That guy's not normal, just look at him" Usopp said.
"You're not getting away! Get back here, Cat Burglar! You too, Swordswoman!" the warthog from before suddenly screeched as she rushed straight towards us with two swords.
"What did I do?! He's the one that decided I'd be his mistress, not me!" I snapped.
"Hey, Nami, Skylar, I think she's only chasing after you two" Usopp pointed out.
"You're right, what the heck is going on here?" Nami frowned.
"What a pain" I grumbled.
"So, I was thinking, maybe we could just sort of split up" Usopp nervously suggested.
"Selling us out, you heartless bastard?!" Nami and I snapped as we hit the long-nosed pirate on top of the head.
"Get back here!" the warthog angrily screamed.
"Warthogs are scary!" Chopper cried.
"You'll have to run faster than that" Nami huffed as she tightly grabbed hold of my hand and picked up her speed, practically dragging me behind her as she did so.
"Slow down, Nami! Skylar!" Chopper cried out.
"You're using us as a shield, aren't you?! Not fair!" Usopp snapped as Nami and I continued to run ahead of the two.
"Nami, that was kind of cruel, don't you think?" I winced the moment I heard the two's frightened screams as they were harshly mowed down by the warthog that was still charging towards us.
"I'll brutalize you two!" she snarled as she now started to gain speed on us—raising both of her swords up high before bringing them down as Nami and I quickly jumped out of the way of the attacks. "Give me back my husband!" she angrily demanded.
"What does that even mean?!" Nami cried out as she blocked one sword with her Clima Takt while I blocked the other with one of my own swords.
"Your husband? You want him, you can have him because I sure as hell don't want him!" I snapped.
"Nami! Skylar! You big pink eyesore!" Usopp cursed as he climbed on top of the warthog in some vain attempt to stop her.
"Leave them alone!" Chopper cried as he also climbed on top of the warthog to help the sharpshooter in trying to stop her.
"Get out of here, Nami! Skylar!" Usopp shouted as we both started to run once again after knocking the sow back the moment she was distracted by the two that was climbing all over her.
"Love stops for nothing!" the warthog roared.
"Dammit! She's too strong!" Usopp and Chopper cried when they saw how the sow continued to chase after us as if their added weight did nothing to slow her down.
"I don't know what your deal is and I don't care! They're our friends and I won't let you hurt them!" Usopp exclaimed.
"I'm warning you, I won't stop punching 'til you stop running!" Chopper huffed.
"Getaway, Nami! Skylar! Hurry!" Usopp cried out to us.
"I'm going to crush you two! You filthy Cat Burglar and Swordswoman!" the warthog snarled as she ignored the two men that were still weakly hitting her. "The only woman Absalom is allowed to marry is me! Get lost!" I dared to sneak a peek behind us, wincing as I watched how she carelessly threw both Usopp and Chopper off her.
"Huh?" I owlishly blinked when I suddenly felt Nami snatch up my wrist in a desperate attempt to save herself from falling the moment she tripped over her own two feet. Instead of saving herself, all she did in return was drag me down with her.
