Chapter 664 The New Alastor Moody
Evan soon discovered the difference between the fake Moody Caresius and the fake Moody Barty Crouch Jr.
He continued Caresius' teaching style, allowing students to experience dark magic as much as possible, but his methods became more cruel.
He began using various dark magic attacks on the students in the classroom, asking them to do their best to resist and dodge.
This made Moody receive more praise among the students, and they were all amazed by his courses.
But every time he faced Barty Crouch Jr., Evan wondered if he would kill him because he seriously attacked him with well-directed attacks, not as practice-oriented as he did with other students.
Evan ignored all of Bartemius Crouch Jr.'s provocations and did not fight back; he simply dodged.
Outside of class, he kept as far away from him as possible, with no intention of contacting this madman.
At the end of the week, Barty Crouch Jr., the fake Moody, praised Harry's performance. He thought Harry had the potential to become an Auror, and this assessment delighted Harry for a long time.
In contrast, Crouch Jr. openly expressed his dislike for a group of Slytherin students, like Malfoy.
Now, as soon as Malfoy heard the name Moody, his face paled, and his reaction was very unnatural.
Compared to his aversion to Malfoy, Barty Crouch Jr.'s hatred towards Snape, Karkaroff, and other former Death Eaters was pure.
It was not the simulated hatred by Caresius but a deep-seated hatred.
Caresius may have had disputes with Karkaroff and Durmstrang over interests in the Nordic region, but they were not fatal.
Barty Crouch Jr. displayed genuine hatred and could not wait to kill all these traitors. This morbid hatred even surpassed his hatred for Dumbledore, Evan, and other enemies of Voldemort.
After Snape made sure something was wrong with Moody after losing Gillyweed, he tested him again.
Bartemius Crouch Jr.'s response was straightforward and crude, very direct but truly effective. He dragged him to Dumbledore's office to make a scene and rudely searched Snape's office again.
It was not known what Dumbledore said to Snape, but his face was dark and grim those days, and no one dared to approach him.
The day after the search in Snape's office, Barty Crouch Jr. spoke alone with Karkaroff.
Faced with Barty Crouch Jr.'s oppression and force, Karkaroff's attitude became unbearably uncomfortable.
He started contacting Snape frequently, but Snape continued to avoid him, making Karkaroff even more nervous.
At Friday night's dinner, Harry, Ron, and Hermione told Evan they had seen Karkaroff in the morning Potions class when he burst into the classroom. Karkaroff interrupted Snape's class just to talk to him.
"Not long after the Potions class started, he came in," said Harry, recalling the scene. "He stayed behind Snape's desk for the rest of the double period. He seemed determined to prevent Snape from leaving at the end of the class."
"Did Karkaroff show great urgency?" Evan asked, tapping his fingers gently on the table.
"Yes, you didn't see how Karkaroff was," said Hermione. "He kept twisting his finger around his beard and looked agitated. It was strange. What was he so worried about? Him and Snape..."
"Snape and Karkaroff know each other well but don't want others to know," said Ron.
"Evan, you should have seen Snape's expression when Karkaroff burst into the Potions class!" Harry said quickly. "I made up an excuse to stay and see what Karkaroff wanted to tell Snape. He said Snape had been avoiding him. Karkaroff was very concerned. He showed Snape something on his forearm, but I didn't see what it was..."
"Oh!" Evan realized it must have been Karkaroff's Dark Mark, considering that Snape also frequently gripped his forearm that night. He began to worry, which was not a good sign.
The frequent pain caused by the Dark Mark meant that Voldemort had been up to something lately, and the situation was truly urgent.
At the same time, his power was rapidly growing to strengthen the connection with the Death Eaters.
Although Voldemort had not yet obtained Harry's blood to complete the dark magic, his power was still rapidly increasing. Undoubtedly, he had found a new source of power. Unicorn blood and potions surely did not have such a strong effect.
Could the new and potent source of energy be the power he gained from the wicked god? Or had he struck a deal with the wicked god?
Contemplating this, Evan began to worry about Caresius's situation. What would he do upon his return? Would it be a tug-of-war with Voldemort, or a new arrangement?
In summary, the new Barty Crouch Jr. had plunged Hogwarts into chaos.
The recent bad news also made Evan nervous. Voldemort and the wicked god were opponents not to be underestimated.
After dinner, he was ready to head to the library to review the information and study the Diadem of Ravenclaw he had just acquired.
Hermione accompanied him, while Harry and Ron continued their conversation from the morning.
Of course, the two did not reach any conclusions. Finally, Ron suggested that Harry write to Sirius about it.
Around eight o'clock in the evening, Hedwig brought back Sirius's letter.
He warned Harry not to discuss these matters using owl post as it was not secure. He asked Harry and Ron to wait for him by the fireplace in the Common Room at midnight, and he would join them at Hogwarts via the Floo network.
When Evan and Hermione returned, they saw Harry and Ron standing in front of the fire.
They thought that if there were so many people at once, they would release a Stink Bomb to ensure the meeting wasn't discovered.
Fortunately, after a hectic week of classes, everyone was very tired and went to bed early.
By the time it was nearly midnight, only the four of them remained in the Common Room.
Having just encountered Sirius last week, Evan didn't expect any useful news from him. Voldemort was too cunning to be discovered by the Ministry of Magic's aurors.
Instead, Evan had high hopes of some revelation from Caresius.
They were whispering, and now the room was dimly lit; the flames in the fireplace were the only source of light.
Just after midnight, Harry jumped out of his chair.
He saw Sirius' head peeking through the fire with a smile on his face.
