Chapter 8: The real monsters are in the shadows
The gorilla man was about to fall on his feet, but the Yaksha dodged him to throw a cutting sling of air towards the creature, this wounded him in the shoulder, however it did not stop it from launching itself directly towards him again. The Hunter quickly made a movement to pass to the side of its large body and attack with his spear, however, it did not penetrate enough, it only managed to make a scratch on the thick skin of the beast. Suddenly something happened that he never expected.
In a moment the creature turned quickly towards the boy, all to jump and give him the most painful double kick he had ever felt in his entire existence.
Xiao was thrown back several meters, breaking trees along the way, and then was stopped by crashing into a mountain. He formed a crater in it as he stuck to the hole, sculpting blood with the powerful impact, but his superhuman resistance allowed him not to break any bones, but it wasn't over yet.
The out-of-control monster charged back to where the hunter was, he quickly jumped to the side to avoid being hit, however, he watched in amazement as the beast pierced the great mountain and made it collapse on itself. That power was too immense, he had to get serious.
The creature turned once more to deliver a powerful punch to the Adeptus, but the latter stopped it with one hand. The nocturnal monster tried to break free, but the boy's strength was growing as a black and green aura was forming as well as a terrifying mask on the boy's face.
Xiao immediately punched him in the stomach and then released his fist to begin a flurry of slashes while dodging the beast's attacks with great agility. The Yaksha seemed to teleport with each attack he made, leaving the beast confused.
For a few seconds the creature stopped being attacked, but the bloodied gorilla searched for that boy who left him with several deep cuts all over his body, but it was too late when he looked up and found several anemo spears heading towards him, and in the middle that green demon with a mask.
The monster was left with multiple spears piercing through it, it looked stunned, but then Xiao quickly got on top of it and placed his hand on the creature's chest while holding up two fingers with the other.
— Scourge of all evils! Disappear! — he shouted, applying a burst of green color to the gorilla, however, nothing happened, leaving him confused — Scourge of all!... MMMM!
The boy couldn't repeat his demon-killing technique because the gorilla's hand began to squeeze his mouth with immense pressure, thus breaking the mask to show the Yaksha's frightened face. Suddenly his head hit the ground hard, causing the rocks to fragment, then he was thrown into the air and then grabbed by the feet and whipped like a rag against the floor once again, it was multiple times until suddenly the beast grabbed him by the head and put his back against his knee, the young man screamed loudly as he gave him multiple knee strikes and then threw him into the air, but he found no peace as suddenly the gorilla jumped and hit him while flying straight towards some mountains.
Xiao was completely bleeding, however, the adrenaline and the power of the mask were still flowing through his veins, so he was not going to stop. Breaking the ground, he launched himself towards the monster to give it multiple cuts at a monstrous speed, but the beast at the precise moment hit his hand with great force, causing the spear to fly several meters away from its user.
The Demon Hunter did not digress and began to attack him with several blows that were accompanied by anemo power, it did not do much damage but it did blind his eyes because of how strong the gusts were, taking advantage of that Xiao got behind the monster and hugged him by the waist and was able to do a suplex, even more so with the power of the mask he only managed to lift him a little and then receive a powerful elbow that made him spit blood, after that he received a punch in the face that sent him flying, but while that was happening the beast with unmatched speed managed to match the speed with which he flew out to give him multiple punches and claws along the way.
When he received a final blow that sent him a few meters away, he was grabbed by the arm with force, the boy tried to resist but he could only hear something break when his elbow hit the being's knee.
He gave a muffled scream that he never knew he could produce, but he didn't have time to continue as he was grabbed by the head and received a knee to the face that broke his mask again, then he only finished with a blow with both hands towards another of the mountains.
The Yaksha was already out of strength, he couldn't fight anymore, so while he was stuck he thought of a plan to continue stopping him, although his mind went blank when he saw a light form through the dust. The beastman began to form a sphere of light in his mouth that was white in color, all before lowering his head forward and spitting a huge ray straight towards the Yaksha.
— FOR MY BROTHERS WHAT-?!
The scream was silenced when the enormous wave of light crashed against the mountain causing it to collapse into pieces, the beast roared loudly towards the moon in victory, it was a powerful roar which was heard throughout almost the entire region, thus reaching the ears of the Wangshu Inn, however he stopped when he heard the sound of footsteps, they were distant but he could capture them, he searched with his vision but couldn't find anything, so he slowly began to sniff to find some clue.
Yelan had seen it all, she was on top of one of the smaller mountains that were not destroyed, the young woman was having a lucky day but even so she couldn't stop shaking, she had to stay strong, however, she knew that she was not the one they were looking for since she was carrying a tonic for wild animals, the being that was being chased was another.
A frightened Xiao, as he had rarely been in his entire life, stood behind a tree covered by rocks. He had his spear ready in case the creature came, even though it was useless. He spent all his energy to get out of those mountains. He couldn't even teleport, he was too exhausted. He had to think of a way out of there. He was going to be discovered at some point. He just hoped he could recharge his strength to get as far away as possible. That thing wasn't a demon or a monster to deal with, it was simply a lost cause.
The being was getting closer and closer, Xiao was sweating more intensely as he heard the footsteps getting closer and Yelan didn't know what to do, attacking would condemn herself to death and she couldn't let Xiao die because otherwise Liyue would fall prey to the dark evils, she had to resort to a quick plan, and fortunately her brilliant mind had an answer.
— Oh honey, what have you done?
The gorilla turned around and found something that made him regain the consciousness that he had kept hidden inside him. The Goku that was still inside him recognized the figure of his grandmother, she was blue, but his primitive instincts didn't let him notice the difference despite having her perfect shape.
— I told you that you couldn't look at the Moon, don't you remember? — his grandmother's voice was a little different, as was her smell, but it was her, the Gorilla knew it had to be her — There is my little monkey... and I thought you would be smarter.
— Yes Goku, you can't play with us if you behave like that! — said one of the children who was there too.
— That's right! It would be too much for us — said another who had appeared.
— We can't train like that either. I have to train with normal Goku! — said Keqing who also appeared there.
Many other people from the blue-colored Chingtse village were there, talking one by one, the gorilla felt that their voices were a little different from what he remembered, but he didn't remember many things either, that was a stroke of luck for Yelan.
Suddenly the monster began to look at his hands and then scream and grab his head, only to hold it back while making muffled sounds as if he was trying to hold something back, then he was heard breathing with great effort, but little by little his size began to decrease, his hair began to have the shape of before and his body hair began to get into his pores. In the end there was only a boy with a noticeable athletic physique and tattered clothes, he looked tired and sleepy, he took a few steps forward only to fall asleep.
Yelan has never been so proud of spying on a boy during his birthday. That day the woman also had to spy on him to the Village because it was his birthday, thanks to that she was able to meet the people of the Chingtse Village and memorize their faces. The illusions she made of Hydro were almost perfect, however, she was not yet good at imitating voices, but it was enough to be able to calm the boy, although she did not even know it would work. She rested her head on the stone that was leaning on it to rest a little, she was smiling since that was the danger she was expecting, but suddenly she saw something falling from the sky, one of the stones that were shot into the sky during the fight had gone very high and was just about to touch the ground, or rather, the forehead of a certain young woman.
Xiao couldn't believe it either, but he did nothing but lie down and laugh a little, it had been a long time since he had such a close encounter with death, but he was still wondering who to thank. From that day on, the Demon Hunter also became a faithful follower of the Goddess of Fontaine.
The next morning the boy woke up as if he had slept deeply, he felt well rested and full of energy, however, he also felt somewhat sore, but he did not have a single wound. Although he realized that he was getting late to get to the Cloud Preserver's training, and despite hurrying he could not get there on time, so the Adeptus gave him a harder training.
The boy didn't remember anything about what happened last night, not the fight or the fact that he was staring at the moon, but he remembered that his grandmother had forbidden him to let himself be carried away by the celestial star, something that never really happened, but he still took it as a kind of reminder.
Weeks passed and the same event did not occur again. The Cloud Preserver noticed a great increase in the effectiveness of the boy's missions, this forced her to make the tests even more difficult and in less time, however, the young man continued to show excellent results in each challenge.
The moment the boy finished his training, he went on his way to stroll through the Huahuang Stone Forest, where there were slender peaks that stretched into the clouds. It was a place forbidden to mortals according to the Preserver, but she gave him every right to stroll around there whenever he wanted.
The boy jumped from mountain to mountain happily while he walked through the blue sky with a big smile, he also looked at the ground seeing how high he was, he could see the few hilichurls that were there, a few bishap offspring and several slimes, creatures which were funny to the young man.
However, he saw something unusual on the ground, it was a regular group of people, they were seen wearing a somewhat dirty hood because they were doing an unusual activity in the area, they were mining. Goku would have no problem with that, the problem was that the place was a sacred area, it was forbidden to extract the minerals from that area, and the boy did not want them to lie about the problem with the Preserver, just as she scolded him for not warning her, so he decided to talk to them.
The miners, who were men and women, looked dirty and stressed, but even if they didn't want to, they had to continue, and they were being closely watched by someone dangerous. Suddenly someone heard footsteps approaching the group, and when they saw them they were confused.
— Hey! What are you doing mining here? This is an Adeptus area, you can't do that — the boy said calmly, but with a confused face.
— Where did that child come from? — said one of the clandestine miners.
— Hey kid! Get out of here! This isn't a game, go back to where you came from — said one of the miners coughing.
— I'm not leaving anywhere until you leave! This place is forbidden to do such things.
None of those present did anything, but they did look uncomfortable and some angry, however the boy was looking around, there were more women than men and some were somewhat young, but what caught his attention most was the mineral they were extracting, it was Cor Lapis, but one that emitted more intense glows. The Preserver explained to Goku at the time that the Cor Lapis of that place had beneficial properties for the Adeptus, that they were magic stones, but to mortals it could cause damage and diseases that could even be irreparable.
— Hey, but that Cor Lapis is dangerous — said the boy, drawing even more attention — It's a stone that only the Adeptus use, they say it can be very dangerous for people.
— What are you talking about, kid? Just go away — said one of the women.
—Hey, but didn't they bring us here because those from before had gotten sick? — said another woman, more frightened.
— It's true — said a man coughing — In fact, I've been feeling bad these days. Have you guys been too?
Several began to nod and talk about it, but they looked more worried and scared the more they talked, but suddenly a loud bang was heard, a shot. Everyone turned to see a man with a red hat like his suit, however, his face was covered by white bandages that only let his eyes be seen, in his hands he carried what seemed to be a rifle in his hands, his path was cleared to then be near the child.
— Hey brat, what do you think you're doing here? — said the soldier in a threatening voice — This is not a place for children to play and scare my miners, I don't want you coming back here to say such stupid things.
—But if it's true, you're the stupid one, everyone in Liyue knows that touching Adeptus things can be dangerous for normal people— the boy said simply.
The miners seemed frightened by that answer, but the man with the hat, with a hostile walk, began to approach the boy, until he was in front of him and looking at him with threatening eyes.
— Listen kid, I'm not in the mood for your nonsense — the soldier said threateningly with a penetrating look — So you better get out, you don't want to be like the sons of...
But suddenly the man received a small blow to the head from Goku, this seemed like just a touch to the miners, but the impact of the weapon with the skull was heard very loudly. Suddenly the soldier collapsed after a few seconds, he could be seen breathing, but he did not move at all. The boy, a little confused, then looked at the workers, they looked scared and amazed.
— I think that guy was bothering them, but there's no problem now — said the boy — But you better get out of here, the Preserver might get upset.
The miners, still hesitant, began to leave the place, but they looked too scared, as if they didn't even know what they were going to do. This was too strange for Goku, but he was still happy that they listened to him.
The young man jumped and went on his way to find something to eat while jumping from mountain to mountain, however, he was not aware that a person had seen everything in the shadows, and that person was not Yelan.
Weeks passed and Goku did not see those miners again, fortunately, the problem had been solved, although he almost always felt watched, it was something he was already used to, but from that day on he felt different.
It was the day to be a teacher with Keqing, the girl had improved her energy ball very well in the last few days as well as concentrating the energy on her feet and fists, but the latter was the aspect that needed polishing the most.
The young man went to the Whangshu Inn and waited like every week for the young woman to arrive while he sat down to eat, however, she did not appear. Normally Keqing would have been coming while he was still eating, but he finished his chicken with jueyun chili and the young woman did not appear, something was wrong.
The young man stood up, but saw something he hadn't noticed before on the seat in front of him. It was a cream-colored letter, it was sealed with a seal, but on the back it said: "To Sun Goku." The boy, somewhat confused, opened the envelope and read the contents, which surprised him greatly.
"Come to the pass in Minlin that leads to the Dunyu Ruins of Lisha, go alone and at night. I'll be waiting for you."
He could see that there was another extra paper inside the envelope, it was a map with the location marked on it. The boy went to the place without hesitation, he didn't know what it was exactly but it was probably Keqing trying to meet him there, so he just went without thinking twice.
The boy waited in the stone forest and Huahuang and then went to his destination when the sun had already set. Of course, he simply ran along the ground until he reached his destination.
The pre-teenager arrived and found nothing. It was a narrow road with very large cliffs. There was a well-formed path for carriages and people to pass through, but it seemed like it wasn't used very often. Goku was completely alone, but he kept walking, looking for clues or something, but suddenly he came across something interesting. There were some ruins that were attached to one of the edges of the cliff. They looked quite old and abandoned, however, he could see wooden boxes and the occasional torch lit with a weak flame. Keqing must have been there.
The young man entered the abandoned temple, but the further he went in the darker it became. There were no torches inside and all he could hear was dripping from the roof, but suddenly the boy heard moans, the moans of children.
Goku closed his eyes, he tried to concentrate to look for the Adeptic energy that surrounded him, but he found a surprise, to his left there were several piled up and weak, but there was one too familiar, that of Keqing, the problem was that he was surrounded by even stronger energies.
Suddenly everything lit up, torches that were attached to the wall lit up almost by magic, the boy could see what the structure of the place was like. It was two stories which had pillars while he was in a kind of open patio. Goku could see that there were several men and women upstairs with strange outfits, some were muscular with purple clothes and huge hammers, others were fat with a kind of gun and two cylinders on their backs and there were also girls who looked like magicians. They all wore masks.
Suddenly there was someone on the same floor as him. Goku was surprised to see that he didn't have the appearance of a soldier, in fact, he was wearing a white tuxedo, he wasn't very tall, but he had messy light blue hair, but what was characteristic was the mask he wore, it was black and white, you could clearly see his crimson red eyes, but the most terrifying thing was his smile.
— Now yes! You can cry now — he said in a playful tone.
Screams and cries were heard to the boy's left, the young man turned to that side and saw something that left his eyes wide open. In a large dungeon there were several children crying and asking for help, they were in very worn clothes and looked almost malnourished, they were younger than him or about the same age, but among them he could make out a girl with purple eyes.
— Goku! — said the girl with her dirty clothes, her hair was messy and her body was soaked and shaking.
—Keqing! — the boy shouted in astonishment.
— You blinked!
Suddenly one of the purple magicians appeared next to the boy, grabbing the staff from his hands when he was distracted and before Sun Goku did anything the magician disappeared to appear in a part of the second floor with the boy's weapon, she made a tender but mocking gesture when she saw him, however, the boy took it calmly and turned his head with a serious face to the masked man.
— Who are you and what do you want with the children? — said Goku with an angry face.
— Oh, boy, those are some manners! With that face, you shouldn't introduce yourself, no no no — said the man with the mask — Goku, right? It's nice to finally meet you, my name is Dottore, a certain young lady was talking a lot about you, about how she would get them out of here and that you would beat us up, we had to throw a few buckets of cold water on her to shut her up, but she still continued.
— I don't know if you know that girl, what you say is true — said the young man without knowing who he was talking about — Answer and get the children out now.
— I think that boy is not very smart — said one of the fat men in light blue.
— Ha? I see you're very brave boy, that must be why...
— I told you to answer my question! Who are they and what do they want with the children?! — Goku interrupted angrily, standing in front.
—Huh? But first let me... — the man said confused, but the same thing happened.
— Answer! — he interrupted again.
— Fine! If you want to know so much, we are Fatui, a diplomatic delegation from Snezhnaya, simple politicians who come from abroad — said the man mockingly, trying to sound innocent.
—But aren't the police supposed to be in their own country? — Goku asked, confused.
—Huh? I said politicians, not police, they are two different things — said the man, getting a little annoyed.
— It doesn't matter! What do they want with the children? What do they want with Keqing! — the young man demanded.
— Oh, nothing personal, let's just say that I'm part of a very important group of the Fatui, a Herald so to speak, and what I'm looking for are test subjects, and what better than the children of homeless miners — said the smiling man.
— So you're the ones who sent those gentlemen and ladies to the stone forest! — Goku replied.
— Ah! That is a very accurate conclusion! Yes! The sphere shot straight towards the man, who, with his eyes almost popping out of their sockets and screaming like a madman, was thrown backwards and then crashed into a wooden door, causing a huge explosion that shook the place.
All the fatui were surprised by that, but they were not slow like the Hilichurl or the treasure looters, they did act quickly.
A Fatui Agent with several blades launched himself towards Goku, who agilely dodged his attacks and then kicked him, sending him flying to the exit of the ruins, then a large man with gigantic Anemo energy gloves tried to hit him, but was stopped by Goku's fist, the surprised soldier was grabbed by the arm and then thrown towards another group of Fatuis who were approaching, suddenly a discharge of electro element flooded him, a Cicin mage was electrocuting him, however the boy charged against her, headbutting her in the stomach that sent her flying towards the children's prison.
—Keqing! Use the adeptic energy with your hands now to break the door! — said the boy who continued to fight with more soldiers.
— B—but I'm not ready! — said the young woman, hesitant and soaked.
—Do it now! — the boy ordered.
Keqing, having nothing else to do, obeyed what Goku told her, grabbed the door lock and put the adeptic energy in her hands, it was difficult, but at one point she heard something break and then the door opened.
—The girl did it! —said one of the little ones inside.
Suddenly Keqing saw in the distance a large group of Fatui approaching her friend, she put her hand in front and with great concentration tried to form a ball of energy with her hands, she had never done that in battle, but it was time to try it. A sphere of light formed and the moment she saw it she threw it at the group, they flew away due to the repulsive effect of it, nothing exploded but it was enough to prevent Goku from having more trouble, now he had to look for a sword.
Goku lifted a frightened Cryo Gunner with one hand and threw him like a ball at another one who was approaching with a group of magicians, suddenly a shot fell on his shoulder, the boy raised his head and saw on the upper floor how several of those red musketeers had him in their sights, what the boy did was quickly throw rocks and other Fatui bodies lying on the ground at them, with that he managed to clear the second floor. Suddenly he saw a man in a brown suit and a staff, he seemed to shoot a rock at him but it had no effect.
— Please have mercy.
Those were his last words before being thrown towards another group of Fatui who were trying to get up, then the boy noticed the magician Cicin lying on the ground with the staff that had been given to her, he picked it up and noticed that in the distance there was a Keqing trying to fight against a big purple guy with a hammer. Things were about to get more intense.
The battle was very tough. Goku was facing such skilled elemental power users for the first time, however, the tests helped him improve his reflexes and he defeated each soldier with one or two hits. Some tried to shoot from afar, but Keqing managed to attack them by surprise, either with her shock waves or her sword, thus showing the fruits of her training. Blood was shed that night.
For a long time the young people fought, however, the girl grew tired, fortunately there were few left who fled in terror and screaming from the horror they had witnessed, so Keqing gave herself the luxury of falling to the ground agitated, Goku still had energy, but a rest was also good, however, the thing was not over yet.
— Well well! Looks like that bomb vest did help! What do you think Goku? — shouted a tangled and crazy Dottore who was walking clumsily with a controller in his hand, his clothes were torn, he looked tired and had blood running down his forehead — What's up little ones! Are you sleepy already?! Can't you play anymore?! Well, I'm giving you a new toy, you pair of morons! Enjoy it, brats!
When I pressed the button of an entrance next door, a huge brown being came out, it was a guardian of the ruins, but modified with four arms and two swords, the head was no longer so close to the torso and was smaller. Keqing made a face of horror when she saw him, but Goku only became serious and gave a strong jump.
Dottore was speechless as he watched a pre-teen brat who possibly had a lower than average IQ blow the head off one of his greatest inventions with a single punch. There were no words as the entire body fell back, he simply stared at the boy with a blank face.
—Wow, I wonder what your parents fed you? — the Fatui said expressionlessly.
— Well, when I was little I liked Solsettias.
— They must have been some good Solsettias — but his face changed to a maniacal laugh — Ah, but what can you do, well, there's no other choice.
Suddenly the man in his torn jacket pulled out a purple gem, he smiled like a madman and looked at the two young men while laughing as he lifted the stone.
— Oh boys, visions are the past, they are nonsense... But deceptions?! Deceptions are...! — but he made the mistake of standing with his legs apart
There was a high-pitched scream coming from a Dottore with his eyes bulging out of his head and his mouth wide open. Goku had forcefully kicked him in the crotch, that was the lowest blow he had ever received in his entire life.
Several children from the cages laughed at the reaction of a grown man, they no longer looked scared, but a little more relaxed. This infuriated Dottore, it infuriated him like never before, he simply lost control.
— WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU LAUGHING AT?! I'M GOING TO SQUEEZE YOU OUT OF EVERYTHING...!
—Silence! — Goku felled him with a blow from his staff as if he were a teacher to a spoiled student. Dottore writhed on the ground in pain. — You said something rude, it's not good to say it in front of other children.
Goku was very serious, but the others took it as a joke. Keqing also let out a giggle at how incredulous and innocent the boy was while the other children burst out laughing. Suddenly Goku noticed how the whole thing made the boys laugh, so he had an idea.
He put part of the staff inside the Fatui's nostril, and the Fatui's moaning in pain slowly stopped as Goku raised his weapon.
— Hey, this is funny — said the young man, letting out a few giggles.
— You stupid boy! You don't know what you're getting into! You don't know who you're getting into! — the scientist said reluctantly while drooling from the rage he felt inside.
Unable to bear it any longer, the man tried to hit the boy, but he didn't hit him because the boy grabbed his arm tightly and twisted it while the boy was gagging and screaming from the pain of the pressure he was exerting on him. Then the last straw fell.
Goku shoved the Fatui's entire hand into the Fatui's mouth, smirking as that made the kids burst out laughing, even Keqing was trying not to laugh, however, Dottore wasn't enjoying it, his eyes were bloodshot, he seemed to want to say something, so Goku kindly let him speak.
— You child, you don't know what you're doing! — the man said furiously — You think it's funny, but you do this in the middle of so many corpses of soldiers from my birth, soldiers with families and a life! And all those who are not going to get up simply will not return to this world! Do you understand that you have blood on your hands?!
— But they were bad — Goku said simply, but leaving Keqing and the children shocked — If they had an important family then they would have run like the others, besides those children also have a family, that makes them bad people.
— You are a brat...!
But he couldn't speak because of a blow from the cane, then he was hit again on the side of the head and then by the other one, then he was given one on the chin that lifted him into the air, so the boy also jumped and with great speed began to deal multiple blows to the head as if he were a test dummy, ending with one that was strong enough to send him flying into a wall and from there he never got up. Everyone was surprised.
— Wow, that was a great fight. You did really well! — Goku said, stretching — Right! The children's families! Where are they?
— As far as I remember, they were sent in chains and with bags over their heads to that door — Keqing said, pointing to the large wooden gate — But I'm not sure if it's them.
— Same! There are people trapped. Let's go!
In the end, what Keqing said was true. The adults were also caged inside that door. They were released along with the children and they were simply freed by the superhuman strength of both young people. Of course, at one point Keqing could not do anything else because all of her Adeptic Energy had run out.
