Moon was in the party room. At least, he thought he was. This party room was well-lit and covered in colorful decorations. Everyone was sitting down at the tables, talking, laughing, and eating cake. None of the children were wearing masks anymore. To his left were the stages, the curtains of the main one torn off to reveal the masks in a large pile, with a white and pink Freddy mask on top. To his right was... Sun? Even though they both had the nightmares, they had never seen each other. Even more unusual, this was the human version of Sun, wearing a yellow suit. Moon looked down at himself and realized he was also human, wearing a dark blue suit.
"Moony! You're here!"
Sun practically jumped on him and squeezed as hard as he could, then quickly let go.
"Are you real?"
"I think so," Moon answered. "Are you?"
"Yes! I'm glad the children could finally start the party! And we look so fancy!"
"Hey, guys!" said Gregory. He was standing behind them, along with Vanessa, Ginger, and Chloe. They were all dressed in similar formalwear, the girls in their gowns and Gregory in his little suit.
"Everyone else is here, too!"
Sun quickly hugged all of their friends. He spent some extra time with Chloe.
"I missed you," she said.
"Me too," he chuckled. "You look amazing!"
"So do you."
It was then that one of the children noticed them.
"Look! They're here!"
The rest of them looked at Sun and Moon and cheered.
Two of the kids stood up and led them to a nearly empty table in the middle of the room. The only other guests there were an old man and a young girl with dark hair.
"Thank you!" said Sun.
"No, thank you!" said one of the boys. "Now that he's gone, we can finally have our Happiest Day."
"That's wonderful! What is that?"
"It means that all of our souls can finally rest easy," said the old man sitting across from them. "Don't mind the children, they're just excited."
"Dad, you don't have to apologize for us. We're not babies," the girl insisted.
"I was robbed of apologizing for you before, I won't let it happen again. You'll have to excuse my daughter, she's a bit headstrong. Regardless of how any of us may act, we are all truly grateful for everything you've done."
Just then, a brown-haired man that looked about their age came through a nearby door. A man's voice called from the other room. He sounded eerily familiar, and very scared.
"W-where are you going? I thought we were h-having fun! You wouldn't leave your old man hanging, would you?"
The younger man made a hand gesture that definitely was not allowed in the daycare, and slowly closed the door.
"Wait- Mike? Please, you know what they'll do to me. Michael, don't leave me here! MI-"
Michael locked the door and snickered. He stopped when he noticed his surroundings.
"Why did nobody tell me the party was starting?" he asked. His voice sounded similar to the man in the other room.
"We did, you just weren't listening," said a boy sitting at the table in front of them.
"It's fine, at least there's still cake left." He saw Sun and Moon. "They got here before me?! Unbelievable."
"Ew, he's British," said Gregory.
Michael frowned at Gregory. He looked very tired. "Gee, thanks. I'm actually not, by the way. My father is, though. I already look too much like him, but that wasn't enough, oh no, I had to sound just like him, too." His voice steadily grew louder and more annoyed. He must have noticed, because he stopped and continued in a calmer tone. "Sorry, I'm getting ahead of myself. Let me start over."
He jogged over and shook hands with everyone.
"Hey, my name's Michael Afton, and you just helped us kill my father."
"That thing was your dad?" asked Gregory.
"Unfortunately. He wasn't a decrepit endoskeleton zombie when he met my mom."
"Wait, Afton?" Ginger asked, having taken a moment to process everything. "As in, like… William?"
"I see you've heard of him."
"Who hasn't? I can't believe that one of the founders of Fazbear Entertainment turned into… that."
"Eh, that's 'cause you never knew him. It was about time someone did in that sick, twisted, son of a-"
The old man cleared his throat.
"I know, I know, there are kids here. There are always kids here."
"What were you doing with him in that room?" Sun asked.
"Ehhhhhhhhhhh don't worry about it. How do you like your reward?"
"The party is great so far! And we love these suits, too!"
"No, not that!" He turned to the old man. "You haven't told them yet?"
"I thought you would want to do it with me."
"Right as always, Henry. Tell me, how did that purple ball get in the daycare?"
"Kyle brought it in," said Sun. "He found it in the vents near Roxy Raceway."
"And how do you think it got in the vents?"
"We don't…"
Michael smiled.
"That was you?"
Michael smacked the table. "That's the ticket!"
"But how?"
"Well, that's a long story. First off, you need to know that everyone here is actually dead, most either killed by dear ol' Dad or died trying to kill him."
They looked around at the room. There were so many people! So many children. One man had done all this?
"D-d-d-dead?" stuttered Sun. "So you're a, a g-ghost?"
Michael shrugged. "Yeah, I guess."
"So, all those stories about murders and haunted animatronics… they're all true?" asked Moon.
"I don't know about all of them, but basically yes. Part of that's her fault. Ain't that right, Charlie?" He nudged the dark-haired girl.
"I'm sorry for wanting to help my friends," she scoffed.
"But we don't have dead kids inside of us, right?" Sun asked.
"Oh, goodness no!" Henry chuckled. "You would know if you did."
"As someone who's been in an animatronic before, I second that," said Charlie.
"Third," sighed Michael. "You think having two voices in one head is hard? Try everyone in this room."
"…everyone?" Sun and Moon said in unison. They were best friends, made for each other in every sense of the word, and even they had squabbles from time to time. If that was death, how could any fate truly be worse?
Michael nodded. "You saw that giant thing, right? Lotta people can fit in there. Only a handful fight for total control, but there's lots of crying and screaming, especially from the new ones. Sometimes you can't even hear yourself think. Took forever to plan anything, but after he gathered up all our remnant, we couldn't just let him have it. So we managed to take control of one of those S.T.A.F.F. bots, grab it, and bring it up to the surface, where we hid it in that vent. It was only supposed to be temporary while we figured out how to get rid of it, but after… Kyle, was it?" They nodded. "After Kyle dropped it off in the daycare, we saw you, and we realized that you might be able to help."
"Why us?"
"You were capable of thinking and feeling like the Glamrocks, but you weren't nearly as popular, so the Pizzaplex wouldn't mind as much if you went missing. And, even better, you had never been fully corrupted by the Glitchtrap virus," Henry explained.
"Also, you were right there," Michael added.
"Yes, that did help."
"Obviously, what we had been doing wasn't working, so we decided to try something new. We all said 'Hey, this stuff is pretty powerful, made of hopes and dreams or whatever the hell he said, yeah? If one person's worth brings inanimate objects to life, what would all of ours be able to do? Maybe make a whole other person, or even two!' So that's what we did! And the kids gave you those dreams to try and let you know what was up. Made little scripts and everything. Even gave me a part. I was the spooky voice, since I sound the most like him. Sorry if I scared you."
"They were meant to be a little scary," said Charlie. "Otherwise, how would they know how dangerous he was?"
"Sorry, guess I didn't see the vision. Obviously, you were right, because we're all here now!"
"Speaking of," said Chloe, "where are we?"
"I… will let Uncle Henry answer that one."
"Gladly. In a certain sense, we are nowhere. More specifically, you are all in a dream-like state, and this is a place we made up, based on our memories of the last Freddy's. Most of your outfits were also taken from memories."
"You can see our memories?" asked Vanessa.
"Only a few of them, ones tied with strong emotions. These are all from events that you seemed to enjoy, or so the children tell me. But if you're wondering, yes, we know who you are. Yes, we know what you've done. And yes, you do deserve to be at this party." He tenderly held her hands. "We all make mistakes, child."
"I don't remember ever wearing a suit like this. What are our outfits from?" asked Sun.
"I made them myself. The children told me those were your favorite colors."
"They were absolutely right!"
"Wonderful. Any other questions?"
"I've got one," said Moon. "Why did we have to be human to help?"
"You didn't. That's the reward. You helped us to avenge our deaths, and prevent many others. In return, you can live the lives none of us got to live. Looks like you're off to a good start."
"Seriously," Michael agreed. "It's only been, what, a month? And you already picked up a couple of chicks."
"We get chickens, too?!" Sun leapt up and searched the surrounding area for the birds, causing Gregory to snicker.
"No. There are no chickens." He sat back down, slightly disappointed and embarrassed. "I was talking about the girls." Michael gestured to Chloe and Ginger.
"Oh," said Sun. "Even better!"
Moon glanced at Ginger. He had never seen a real chicken, but he certainly preferred her adorably passionate info-dumps to Chica's squawking. Nothing against Chica, of course.
"I know. Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go sit with my less homicidal family members. Hey Lizzy, didja save me some cake?"
"Yeah, with extra…" said a girl with strawberry-blonde hair. She was sitting next to the boy who greeted Michael earlier. They looked at each other and started giggling. "…extra butter."
Michael rubbed his temples. "Come on, guys, again with the butter?"
"Wait," said Moon, "just one more thing. You said that everyone here was dead?"
"Except you," corrected Henry.
"Oh, yeah, probably should have clarified that, sorry. Rest assured, you are still alive." He gestured to Moon, Sun, and all of their friends. "While you're here, feel free to talk to anyone you want. Most of his victims were too stubborn to move on right away, so you'll find a lot of them here. I know that the kids at table 4 would love to talk to you."
Michael pointed to a table near the stage. It was full of all the lost Starshines, and some others Moon didn't recognize. Nothing could have prepared them for seeing all of those little faces again.
"Oh my stars," Sun whispered, grabbing Moon's arm, "it's them. They're all here."
"Who are they?" asked Chloe.
"All the kids who died at the Pizzaplex," Moon whispered.
"Why don't you go on over and say hi?" Ginger suggested.
"Why would they want to talk to us? We're the reason they died!"
"No, you're not. They must know the truth by now. Do you want me to come with you?"
"I… sure."
"Let's all go!" said Sun. He grabbed Chloe's hand and started walking over. "You too, Vanessa!"
"Me? Oh no, I-"
"Get over there, Nessa." Gregory pulled her out of her chair. "Gotta get it out of your system somehow. It's not like you can bring this up in therapy."
The whole group made their way over to the table. The first one to greet them was Lisa Faireborn. She would've been seven next week.
"Hi!" She looked and sounded exactly the same as the last time they saw her. The last time anyone saw her…
"Hello, Lisa." Moon's throat felt tight, and it was hard to squeeze the words out.
"You're Mr. Moon, aren't you?"
Moon nodded.
"I thought so. Uncle Henry said you would look different at the party. And you're Mr. Sun."
"Right again!"
"And you're the white bunny rabbit."
Vanessa started crying. She had been trying hard to keep it together all night, but this was the last straw.
"It's ok, Miss Bunny. Please don't cry. I know you didn't mean to hurt me."
"Uncle Henry said it was Mr. Rabbit who made you do those things," said Quinton, a boy who had always hated the daycare. "We all forgive you."
"Come on, everyone! Hugs for Miss Bunny!"
All the children at the table, along with a handful from surrounding tables, came over and gave Vanessa a big group hug. This only made her cry harder. The rest of the group was getting misty-eyed as well.
"I was really scared and mad at first, but now I'm glad you took me from Uncle Warren," said a girl Moon didn't recognize. "Uncle Henry says we get to go to heaven soon, and that's where my Mommy and Daddy are."
At this, Sun and Moon both started sobbing. Sun was right, it did feel good.
"Hey, kids," said Vanessa, still crying as well, "how about some hugs for Mr. Sun and Mr. Moon?"
"Ok. Hugs for Mr. Sun and Mr. Moon!"
The children all crowded around them, and they tried to hug as many as they could. Moon willingly stayed in the center of the huddle.
"This is the best hug ever!" Sun exclaimed, and for once, Moon agreed.
"I always liked your puppet shows."
"Your laugh is creepy and gross, but it's funny, too."
"I'm sorry I kicked you in the face that one time."
"Can we play hide-and-seek?"
After a short round of hide-and-seek, the group split up and mingled with the other party guests. Sun and Moon met some new friends, but they mostly stayed with their Starshines. Chloe stayed with Sun. Ginger interviewed Henry and Michael about the history of Freddy's. Gregory caught up with an old friend from school. Vanessa caught up with old coworkers. Lots of kids came up to hug them, including the ones who had been wearing the old Fazband's masks and talked to them in some of the dreams. It was almost as comforting as it was bizarre. And the cake was good. Moon had never eaten real cake before, but he hoped that it tasted as good as ghost dream cake.
After what seemed like hours of chatting, it was time to leave. Everyone gathered together to bid their friends farewell.
"It's a shame we have to leave so soon," Sun lamented. "I would love to talk some more!"
"Don't worry, we'll see each other again," said Michael.
"Hopefully not anytime soon," mumbled Chloe.
They said their goodbyes, and the party room began to fade away.
Moon opened his eyes to see Ginger standing over him. She smiled when she noticed he was awake. He smiled back.
"There are better places to take a nap than on the ground, y'know."
Before Moon could reply, Sun sat straight up.
"YAHOO! We're back!"
He hugged Chloe, who had sat down next to him and almost started crying again.
"What just happened?" she sniffled.
"I'm not really sure, but I'm glad you were there with me."
"Aww," awed Vanessa. She and Gregory were standing a few feet away. Sun and Moon were apparently the last ones awake. They quickly stood up.
"Hold on, gotta do a quick check," said Sun. He felt around his face.
"Eyes, ears, nose, and mouth. Yes, everything's here! I mean, obviously I already had most of those things, but they couldn't do all the same things as human ones. A 'mouth' that doesn't open can't eat, just as an example. Speaking of, you…" He suddenly seemed nervous. "Do you know w-what else this mouth i-is good for?"
"What?"
"This."
Sun leaned in and planted a small kiss on Chloe's cheek. Afterwards, he shivered, as if he had gotten a chill. Her eyes widened in surprise.
"What's wrong? Was that too soon? Oh, I knew I should have waited, how could I be so-"
"You missed."
"I… I what? What do you mean I- MMM!"
Chloe grabbed Sun's shoulders and touched her lips to his for one, two, three whole seconds. When she had pulled away, Sun staggered back a few steps.
"Oh," he said woozily, "I guess I did."
As he struggled to recover, Ginger decided to grab Moon's hand. He felt more sick than he ever had before, but maybe that was ok. He tried looking at Ginger, but neither of them could make eye contact. He was able to see her blushing out of the corner of his eye, so he gave her hand a squeeze to let her know he felt the same way.
"Ayo!" Gregory pointed to the remnant ball. Not only was it empty, but now it was split in two, perfectly down the middle. Sun and Moon each grabbed a half.
"These are some nice souvenirs," said Moon. "New popcorn bowls, maybe?"
"Ew!" Sun recoiled in disgust. "You want to use these for food? They're made out of dead people!"
"Technically, so are you, but Chloe doesn't seem to mind."
"I doubt the bowls taste half as good." Chloe linked her arm around Sun's and snuggled into the crook of his neck, causing him to blush.
Gregory groaned. "Gross. Can we leave now?"
Vanessa found her flashlight and turned it on.
"I thought you'd never ask."
