A/N Hey everyone! Thanks for joining me for another chapter of *If My Heart Could Fly*. I'm excited to dive into this next part of the story—it's been a long time coming! i apologies for the yearly long delays i am gonna continue and finally update this story since some people have waited for updates for years.

After four years of growth, separation, and intense training, Natsu has finally returned home from his journey, and the moment we've all been waiting for is here: his long-anticipated spar with Wendy! This chapter will showcase how far Wendy has come in Natsu's absence, displaying the results of her relentless dedication and hard work. She's no longer the young, wide-eyed girl looking up to her older guildmate; she's a force to be reckoned with in her own right, eager to show Natsu the fruits of her labor.

Natsu, with his own experiences and new strength, will face Wendy's determination head-on. It's more than a sparring match—it's a reunion, a way for them to connect again after years apart, and a testament to their bond. I hope you all enjoy this chapter as much as I enjoy writing it!

Let me know what you think! As always, thank you for your support, comments, and encouragement.

Happy reading!

Sky Dragon vs Fire Dragon

The sun hung high in the sky, casting a warm golden glow over the training grounds of the Fairy Tail guild. It was a perfect day for a spar, and the atmosphere buzzed with excitement as guild members gathered to witness the showdown between two Dragon Slayers. Natsu Dragneel, fresh from his long journey, stood poised and ready, a fierce grin plastered across his face. Across from him, Wendy Marvell adjusted her stance, determination radiating from her.

The four years that had passed since Natsu's departure seemed to fade away, leaving only the anticipation of the present moment. Wendy felt a flutter of nerves in her stomach as she faced her idol. Natsu had always been a source of inspiration for her, someone whose strength and resilience she admired. Now, she had the opportunity to measure her own growth against his.

"Ready to see how much stronger I've gotten, Natsu?" Wendy called out, her voice firm yet laced with excitement.

Natsu's grin widened, his eyes glinting with playful challenge. "I've been waiting for this, Wendy! Let's see what you've got!"

As they squared off, the other guild members settled down to watch, their chatter fading into a hushed silence. Lucy leaned forward, eyes sparkling with anticipation. "I can't believe this is finally happening! Wendy's been training so hard for this!"

"Yeah, she has," Levy agreed, a proud smile on her face. "She's really become a strong fighter."

Erza stood at the edge of the training grounds, arms crossed, her expression steady and proud. "Wendy's growth will be evident in this match. She's learned a lot."

"Just don't let Natsu go too hard on her," Gray chimed in, concern creeping into his voice.

The sun shone brightly as Natsu and Wendy took their stances, the air thick with anticipation. Wendy felt a surge of energy coursing through her veins as she focused on her breathing. She was ready. She had trained rigorously, honing her skills over the years, and now it was time to prove herself.

"Let's start!" Natsu shouted, breaking the tension as he lunged forward, aiming a powerful punch at Wendy.

Wendy barely had time to react, her instincts kicking in as she sidestepped his blow, feeling the wind rush past her. Natsu was fast, but she had spent countless hours working on her reflexes. The challenge only fueled her determination.

"Sky Dragon's Roar!" Wendy called out, unleashing a powerful gust of wind that rushed towards Natsu, a testament to her mastery of Sky Dragon Slayer magic.

Natsu grinned, his eyes sparkling with excitement.

"Fire Dragon's Roar!" he countered, flames erupting from his mouth as he met her attack head-on.

The two blasts collided, a magnificent explosion of fire and wind erupting in the center of the training grounds. The shockwave sent dust and debris flying, and the guild members shielded their eyes from the dazzling display of power.

"Whoa!" Lucy exclaimed, her heart racing. "They're both incredible!"

"Just wait; it's only going to get better," Gray said, a knowing grin on his face.

As the dust began to settle, Wendy seized the moment to charge forward, enhancing her speed with a burst of wind. "I won't hold back!" she declared, her voice filled with resolve. She was determined to show Natsu how much she had improved.

Natsu's grin widened as he noticed the fierce determination in her eyes. "Bring it on, Wendy!" He launched himself at her, throwing a series of powerful punches that forced her to dodge and weave.

Wendy felt the adrenaline pumping through her. She had always looked up to Natsu, and now, standing against him, she felt a mix of excitement and nerves.

"Sky Dragon's Talon!" she shouted, her leg arcing through the air in a powerful kick aimed at Natsu.

Natsu narrowly dodged her attack, the force of her kick creating a gust of wind that ruffled his hair. He countered with a quick jab, his fist engulfed in flames.

"Fire Dragon's Iron Fist!" he roared, launching the fiery punch toward her.

Wendy ducked just in time, the heat of his attack brushing against her skin. "I can't let him overwhelm me," she thought, her mind racing as she plotted her next move. The intensity of their sparring match would push her to her limits, and she loved every moment of it.

With a fierce shout, Wendy focused her magic, channeling the winds to her hands.

"Sky Dragon's Wing Attack!" she cried, unleashing a flurry of sharp winds that sliced through the air, aimed at Natsu.

Natsu laughed, a thrill of excitement coursing through him. "You think you can catch me with that?" He leapt into the air, evading her attack and flipping over her head, landing gracefully behind her. "Too slow!"

The guild members watched with bated breath, their eyes darting between the two fighters. "Natsu is really pushing her," Gray remarked, a mixture of concern and pride in his voice.

"But Wendy's holding her ground," Levy pointed out, her eyes shining with admiration.

Wendy landed gracefully, quickly turning to face Natsu, who was already charging at her again. The fire in his eyes reminded her of why she loved to fight. He embodied the spirit of a true warrior. "I can't let him down," she thought, gathering her resolve.

Natsu surged forward, his fists ablaze with intensity.

"Fire Dragon's Flame Fist!" he shouted, launching another powerful attack. The flames licked the ground as Wendy deftly dodged, using her speed to evade his onslaught.

"Sky Dragon's Fury!" she cried, unleashing a powerful gust of wind that pushed Natsu back. She followed up with a quick combination of punches, each strike fueled by her determination.

"Nice moves, Wendy!" Natsu exclaimed, his excitement palpable. He was enjoying this spar as much as she was, and that only spurred her on.

The two continued to trade blows, a dance of fire and wind that captivated the onlookers. Each time Wendy landed a hit, her confidence grew, and each time Natsu countered, she felt the fire of competition within her.

As the spar progressed, Wendy began to feel the toll of their battle. She was breathing heavily, but she wouldn't back down. This was her chance to show how much she had grown. "I can't give up," she thought. "I have to push through!"

Natsu could see the determination in Wendy's eyes, and it filled him with pride. He remembered when she was just a timid girl, unsure of her abilities. Now, she was a force to be reckoned with. "You've really come a long way, Wendy," he thought, admiration swelling in his chest.

With a fierce shout, Wendy summoned her magic once more.

"Sky Dragon's Heavenly Arrow!" she yelled, channeling all her energy into a concentrated blast of wind. It took the form of a shimmering arrow, slicing through the air as it hurtled toward Natsu, her heart pounding with anticipation.

"Fire Dragon's Explosion Fist!" Natsu roared, ready to counter, but he quickly dodged to the side as Wendy's attack surged past him. The Sky Dragon's Heavenly Arrow whizzed by, missing him by mere inches and exploding in a massive burst of wind and energy that lit up the training grounds.

Natsu stood frozen for a moment, dumbfounded as he stared at the chaos left in the wake of Wendy's spell. A wide crater marked the ground where the arrow had struck, debris scattering in all directions.

His mouth fell open, his mind racing. "What the hell was that?" he thought, shaking his head in disbelief. "She's gotten seriously strong! If i didn't dodge that I'd be dead right now!" He sweat dropped.

Now that image of him almost getting skewered alive stayed in his mind and he would make sure that he never upsets her or get on her bad side. He made sure to make a mental note of that.

The force of the explosion sent shockwaves through the air, and the guild members shielded their eyes from the brightness. Lucy gasped, her expression a mixture of awe and concern. "Did you see that? Wendy really went all out!"

"Wendy's not just a healer anymore," Erza said, pride evident in her voice. "She's a true Dragon Slayer, and that spell was one of her most powerful."

Natsu's heart swelled with pride as he glanced at Wendy, who stood ready, her determination shining through her exhaustion. "She's incredible," he thought, admiration flooding him. "I've never seen her fight like this before. She's not just my little friend anymore; she's a warrior now!"

As the dust settled, Wendy and Natsu faced each other, both breathing heavily, sweat glistening on their brows. They were battered and bruised, but their spirits remained unyielding.

"You've gotten so strong," Natsu said, his voice filled with sincerity. "I'm really impressed."

Wendy's heart swelled with joy. "Thank you, Natsu! I've worked hard, and I'm still learning. But I wanted to see how strong I could become—against you."

Natsu laughed, his eyes shining with a mix of pride and enthusiasm. "You've definitely shown me, Wendy. I can't wait to see how you'll grow even more!"

Wendy's cheeks flushed with warmth at his words. "I want to keep getting stronger. I want to be someone who can protect others, just like you."

Natsu's expression softened, and he nodded. "You already are. You've become an inspiration for so many. Just keep believing in yourself."

As the intensity of their sparring match began to fade, the other guild members broke into cheers, their voices echoing across the training grounds.

"Wendy! Natsu!" Lucy shouted, waving her arms in excitement. "You were both amazing!"

"Wendy, you really held your own against Natsu!" Levy added, her voice filled with admiration.

"Of course she did! She's a Dragon Slayer!" Gray said, a smirk on his face. "And besides, it's not like Natsu would ever hold back."

The guild erupted in laughter, the camaraderie and encouragement washing over Wendy like a warm blanket. It felt incredible to have their support.

Natsu grinned, wiping the sweat from his brow. "You all are the best!" he shouted back, the energy of the guild fueling him.

As Wendy looked around at her guildmates, she felt a sense of belonging that filled her heart with warmth. These were her friends, her family. They had stood by her side through thick and thin, and their encouragement motivated her to become even stronger.

"Alright, let's take a break," Natsu suggested, his voice still brimming with energy. "We'll pick this up later. I want to see how much more you've improved!"

Wendy nodded, a smile breaking across her face. "I'd love that!"

As they walked off the training grounds, Wendy felt a deep sense of gratitude. This spar was more than just a test of strength; it was a testament to her journey and the bonds she had formed with her guildmates. She couldn't wait for the next match.

After the intense spar, Natsu and Wendy stepped aside, catching their breaths. The sounds of the guild's laughter and cheers filled the air, a comforting reminder of the warmth and support that enveloped them.

"Wow, that was amazing!" Wendy said, her heart still racing from the thrill of their battle. "I didn't expect it to feel this incredible!"

Natsu chuckled, leaning against a nearby tree to catch his breath. "You've come a long way, Wendy. I knew you had it in you. It feels great to see how much you've grown."

Wendy smiled, feeling a warm flush of pride. "I owe a lot of my training to you, Natsu. Watching you fight and pushing myself to keep up has made all the difference."

"Yeah, but it's your hard work that's paying off," Natsu replied, his tone serious for a moment. "I just gave you a little motivation. You've become a force to be reckoned with on your own."

"Thanks, Natsu," Wendy said softly, the sincerity of his words sinking in. She felt a swell of gratitude toward him for always believing in her. "That means a lot coming from you."

As they rested, Lucy, Levy, and Erza approached, their faces beaming with excitement.

"That was so intense!" Lucy exclaimed, her eyes sparkling. "Wendy, you were incredible! I could see how much you've improved!"

Levy nodded enthusiastically. "Seriously, your skills have really evolved. You didn't hold back at all!"

Wendy felt a wave of happiness wash over her at their compliments. "Thanks, everyone! I really wanted to give it my all."

Erza stepped forward, a proud smile on her face. "You showed great determination today, Wendy. Your hard work is evident, and it inspires everyone around you."

"Yeah, you made me want to step up my training!" Gray added, crossing his arms. "You've set the bar high."

Natsu smirked at Gray. "You'll have to catch up if you want to keep up with her!"

Gray rolled his eyes playfully. "I'm not worried about that! But I might need to step it up."

The group shared a laugh, the camaraderie filling the air with warmth. Wendy's heart swelled with joy.

"Let's celebrate Wendy's victory!" Lucy suggested, her voice bright with excitement. "How about we have a feast tonight?"

"That sounds amazing!" Wendy exclaimed, her spirits lifting even higher at the thought of celebrating with her friends.

"Count me in!" Natsu said, his eyes lighting up at the prospect of food. "I'll challenge everyone to a food-eating contest!"

"Only if you can handle it," Gray teased, smirking. "I'm pretty sure I can beat you."

Wendy laughed, feeling a sense of peace and happiness settle over her. This was her family, and moments like these made all the hard work worth it. This was the feeling she missed.

As the sun began to dip lower in the sky, casting a warm golden hue over the training grounds, Wendy stepped away from the group for a moment of quiet reflection. She took a deep breath, feeling the gentle breeze on her skin.

This spar had been more than just a battle; it was a culmination of her growth, her determination to become stronger, and her desire to protect those she loved. She thought back to the four years that had passed since Natsu left, the training sessions, the challenges, and the times when she doubted herself.

"I've come so far," she whispered to herself, a smile creeping onto her lips. "And I'm just getting started."

"Hey, you okay?" Natsu's voice broke through her thoughts as he approached, a concerned look on his face.

Wendy turned, her heart skipping a beat at the sight of him. "Yeah, I'm just reflecting on everything," she admitted. "This spar was really special for me."

Natsu nodded, his expression softening. "I get that. It's important to remember how far you've come. You've worked hard, and it's paying off."

"I just want to be able to protect everyone," Wendy said earnestly, her gaze locking onto Natsu's. "You've always been my inspiration, and I want to be as strong as you one day."

"Wendy," Natsu said, his tone sincere, "you're already strong. You have your own kind of power, and it's amazing to see how much you care for others. That's what makes a true Dragon Slayer."

Wendy felt a rush of emotions at his words. "Thank you, Natsu. That means a lot to me."

Natsu's gaze softened, and he stepped closer. "We're all here for each other, you know? No matter what happens, you're never alone."

Wendy smiled, feeling a warmth spread through her chest. "I know. I'm grateful for all of you. You've all helped me become who I am today."

Natsu grinned back, his usual energy returning. "Alright! Let's celebrate that! Food, friends, and more training later! We've got to make the most of today!"

As the sun began to set, the guild gathered for a feast in the main hall, the atmosphere buzzing with laughter and camaraderie. Tables were laden with food, and the smell of grilled meats and baked goods wafted through the air.

Natsu was already at the front, piling his plate high with food. "You better watch out, everyone! I'm going to eat you all under the table!" he declared, his voice booming with excitement.

"Not if I get there first!" Gray shot back, grabbing a plate of his own.

Wendy couldn't help but laugh at their antics. Surrounded by her friends, she felt a deep sense of happiness and belonging. She joined Lucy, Levy, and Erza at a table, her heart full.

"Wendy, I can't get over how amazing you were today!" Lucy exclaimed, beaming at her. "You really showed Natsu what you've got!"

"I couldn't have done it without your support," Wendy replied, feeling warmth spread through her. "You all inspire me to keep pushing myself."

Levy nodded enthusiastically. "We're all so proud of you, Wendy! You've become such a skilled fighter."

Erza added, "Just remember, strength is not just about power; it's also about your heart and determination. You have both in abundance."

As they enjoyed the feast, the guild's laughter echoed around them, creating a warm, familial atmosphere. Natsu was in the midst of a heated eating competition with Gray, and Lucy was cheering them on. Wendy watched with a smile, feeling the bonds of friendship wrapping around her like a warm blanket.

"Here's to Wendy!" Natsu suddenly shouted, raising a drumstick high in the air. "For being an amazing Dragon Slayer!"

Everyone joined in, raising their glasses and plates in a toast. "To Wendy!" they cheered in unison.

Wendy's heart swelled with happiness. In this moment, surrounded by her friends, she felt invincible. She knew that together, they could overcome any challenge that lay ahead.

As the night wore on, the laughter and joy continued. Stories were shared, memories recalled, and dreams for the future discussed. Wendy felt a deep sense of contentment wash over her.

"Hey, Wendy," Natsu said, plopping down beside her after finishing another plate of food. "What's next for you? You've trained hard, but what do you want to achieve?"

Wendy took a moment to think, her eyes shining with determination. "I want to continue training and become a stronger Dragon Slayer. I want to explore the world and help those in need. There are so many people out there who could use our magic."

Natsu nodded, a proud smile on his face. "You've got the heart of a true Dragon Slayer. I believe in you, Wendy. No matter where your journey takes you, you'll always have us behind you."

"I know," Wendy replied, her voice filled with warmth. "And I'll always be here for you, too. Together, we can face anything!"

The two shared a moment of understanding, a bond strengthened through their shared experiences and growth.

As the evening came to a close and the stars twinkled above, Wendy looked around at her guildmates. She felt a surge of hope and excitement for the future. With Natsu by her side and the support of her friends, she knew she could face whatever challenges lay ahead.

The next day

The next day, the sun peeked over the horizon, casting warm rays through the open front doors of the Fairy Tail guild hall. Natsu stood outside, bouncing on his heels, a mixture of excitement and nostalgia bubbling within him. The familiar sounds of laughter and chatter flowed from inside, filling him with a sense of belonging he had missed during his journey. He took a deep breath, inhaling the scent of fresh bread and the faint hint of magic in the air. This was home.

As Natsu's gaze wandered over the bustling scene, he spotted Wendy emerging from the guild, her face lighting up when she saw him. "Natsu!" she exclaimed, her voice bright as the morning sun. Her blue hair shimmered in the light, framing her face as she hurried toward him, her expression a mix of joy and surprise.

"Natsu! You're back!" she added, her smile wide and genuine, making his heart swell with happiness.

"Wendy! You're here!" Natsu replied, grinning widely. "I was hoping to see you. I've been thinking…" He hesitated, the excitement in his chest bubbling over. "What do you say we remake our team?"

Wendy's expression shifted slightly, a flicker of surprise in her eyes before it settled into something more somber. "Oh, um… about that," she began, her brow furrowing slightly. "Since you left, everyone has made their own teams."

Natsu blinked, his mind racing as he processed her words. "What? Really?" he asked, disbelief coloring his tone. He looked back toward the guild, as if expecting to see his friends waiting to fight alongside him.

"Yeah!" Wendy nodded, her hands clasped in front of her. "Gray and Juvia are a two-man team now. They call themselves the 'Frosty Love Squad'—though it's mostly Juvia doing the fighting while Gray keeps brooding."

Natsu chuckled at the thought of their antics. "That sounds about right. I can just picture Gray trying to look cool while Juvia's out there wrecking stuff!" He grinned, the memory of their playful banter flooding back to him.

"And Levy and Gajeel formed a duo too," Wendy continued, her eyes sparkling with excitement. "They're the 'Book and Iron Team,' and they've been causing quite a ruckus around town with their adventures!"

Natsu raised an eyebrow, his curiosity piqued. "Gajeel and Levy? That's an interesting combo. I wonder how they handle each other's… quirks."

Wendy giggled, brushing a strand of hair behind her ear. "Well, Gajeel might seem tough, but he's surprisingly soft on Levy. They've been making a pretty good team, despite the occasional arguments."

Natsu's enthusiasm began to wane as he realized the implications. "So… everyone's off doing their own thing now?" he asked, a hint of disappointment creeping into his voice.

"Pretty much," Wendy confirmed, a wistful smile on her face. "Erza went back to being solo. She said she prefers it that way… something about not wanting anyone to slow her down."

Natsu frowned, feeling the weight of her words. "Wow, I didn't realize how much had changed while I was away." He shifted on his feet, the familiar sense of camaraderie and adventure mixing with a tinge of melancholy.

Wendy's expression softened, and she stepped closer. "But we can still team up, right? We can make our own duo!"

Natsu's eyes lit up at the suggestion, his mood lifting as he considered it. "You mean it? So, what if we—wait! We can still be a team! It'll be you and me!" He punctuated his excitement with a fist pump, completely missing the deeper implications of their partnership.

Wendy's smile faltered slightly, and she sighed, her expression a mix of amusement and exasperation. There he goes again, she thought, shaking her head. Always so dense. "Natsu, you do realize that by forming a team with me, you're basically getting a healer who can also pack a punch now, right?"

"Exactly!" Natsu said, completely oblivious to her tone. "We'll be unstoppable!" His eyes shone with a fierce determination, imagining the battles they could face together.

Wendy shook her head, trying to suppress a laugh. "And what about Happy and Carla? Do they count as part of our team?"

"Of course! They're our partners!" Natsu grinned, gesturing animatedly as he envisioned their adventures. "Imagine it! The four of us, together again! We'll be the most awesome team ever! The Sky and Flame duo."

"Not exactly a name I would have picked, but it'll do," Wendy replied, amusement dancing in her eyes. "As long as we can kick some serious butt together!"

With that, the two shared a laugh, the camaraderie between them palpable. Natsu turned to head back inside the guild, Wendy following closely behind. As they stepped through the doors, the sounds of their friends echoed around them, their hearts filled with the promise of new adventures ahead.

As they entered the guild hall, Natsu waved to their friends, the room bustling with life. Lucy sat at a table, her head buried in a pile of paperwork, while Gray and Juvia bickered playfully nearby. Gajeel and Levy were deep in conversation, plotting their next mission, while Erza was sharpening her sword in the corner, her eyes focused and serious.

"Hey, everyone! Guess who's back?" Natsu shouted, his voice booming through the hall. The chatter died down, and all eyes turned to him.

"Natsu!" Lucy exclaimed, jumping to her feet. "You're back! Where have you been?"

"Just finished my journey! And guess what? Wendy and I are teaming up again!" Natsu declared, a proud smile on his face.

"Wait, what?" Gray raised an eyebrow, folding his arms skeptically. "You two?

Wendy's face flushed slightly, her cheeks turning pink as she caught Natsu's enthusiastic grin. "Actually, we're calling ourselves the 'Sky and Flame Team!'" Natsu proclaimed, completely oblivious to the implications of the name.

Juvia's eyes sparkled with delight. "Oh, that's so cute! Juvia loves it! It's like a romantic story!"

Natsu scratched the back of his head, looking puzzled. "Romantic? It's just a name! We're just here to fight and have fun!"

"Right…" Wendy said, her voice trailing off, knowing exactly how Natsu's mind worked—or rather, didn't work. He really doesn't see it, she thought, a mix of amusement and frustration bubbling within her. "We can still have fun, though!"

Gajeel smirked, folding his arms over his chest. "I'm looking forward to seeing how you two handle missions together. Hope you don't get blown away, kid."

"I'll be fine!" Wendy replied confidently, her eyes sparkling with determination. "With Natsu by my side, we'll take on anything!"

Lucy clapped her hands together, breaking into a grin. "This is going to be so much fun! You two are going to be an amazing team!"

As the guild members cheered and laughed, Natsu felt a rush of warmth spread through him. He looked around, taking in the faces of his friends, feeling the bonds they shared. It was exhilarating and comforting at the same time.

"Let's go on our first mission together!" Natsu suggested, pumping his fists in the air. "I want to show everyone what we're made of!"

"Right! But we need to come up with a strategy first," Wendy said, her eyes sparkling with excitement. "We can't just rush in without a plan."

Natsu waved his hand dismissively. "Strategies are overrated! We just need to go in, fight, and win! Besides, I trust you to keep us safe."

Wendy giggled, shaking her head. "Well, if you insist. Just remember to let me heal you if you get hurt!"

"I won't! I promise!" Natsu replied, his signature grin stretching wide. "Okay, maybe I will just a little bit."

Their laughter filled the guild hall, drawing smiles from everyone around. Happy flew over, his tiny wings buzzing as he hovered in front of Natsu. "Are you really going to be serious about this, Natsu? Are you sure you can keep up with Wendy's speed?"

"I can handle it!" Natsu said confidently, crossing his arms over his chest. "Wendy's got skills, but I'm no slouch either! Together, we'll be unbeatable!"

Carla floated next to Wendy, a skeptical expression on her face. "Just remember, Natsu, if you're reckless, you'll put Wendy in danger."

"Me? Reckless? Never!" Natsu said, feigning innocence as he scratched the back of his head. "Well, maybe a little… but I'll be careful!"

Wendy smiled at the banter, feeling her heart swell with warmth. This was what she had missed while Natsu was away—the laughter, the light-hearted teasing, and the sense of unity that came from being part of Fairy Tail.

As the day went on, Natsu and Wendy began planning their first mission together. They tossed ideas back and forth, laughter echoing through the guild as they joked about their adventures.

"Maybe we should start with a simple job, like hunting down rogue mages," Wendy suggested, tapping her chin thoughtfully.

"Too boring! We should go for something epic!" Natsu exclaimed, his eyes gleaming with excitement. "Like saving a village from a wyvern!"

"A wyvern?" Wendy's eyes widened in surprise. "That sounds a bit dangerous, don't you think?"

"We shouldn't have any trouble with it!" Natsu proclaimed with a grin, throwing his arms wide. "And besides, we'll be fine! With you by my side, how can we lose?"

Wendy giggled, feeling a rush of warmth at his confidence in her. "Okay, okay! But let's make sure to come up with a plan first, just in case."

"Right! Plan first, then we go kick some wyvern butt!" Natsu said, his enthusiasm infectious.

As Natsu bounded off toward the job board, his excitement practically radiated from him like a blazing fire. The sunlight streaming through the guild hall's large windows cast warm rays on his spiky pink hair, making it look almost like a crown of flames.

Wendy stood at the entrance, her heart fluttering with a mix of anticipation and uncertainty. The memories of their fierce spar from the previous day played in her mind—their powers colliding, the thrill of competition.

Before she could gather her thoughts, Erza, Mirajane, and Lucy approached her, their expressions a blend of curiosity and mischief. The atmosphere around them felt charged with energy, as if they were gathering for an exciting event.

"Wendy!" Lucy exclaimed, her eyes sparkling like stars. "How does it feel to be part of Natsu's team again? You two are like the perfect duo! It's like the return of the Dragon and his Maiden!"

Wendy felt her cheeks flush, the compliment making her heart race like a hummingbird's wings. "Well, it's exciting… but it'll definitely take some getting used to," she replied, her voice thoughtful. She glanced back at Natsu, who was still bouncing on his feet at the job board, completely unaware of the whirlwind of emotions swirling around her. "Natsu's enthusiasm is contagious, but he can be really… well, dense sometimes."

"Dense?" Erza raised an eyebrow, crossing her arms as if bracing for a grand revelation. Her armor gleamed in the light, adding to her imposing presence. "In what way?"

Mirajane leaned closer, her eyes gleaming with playful mischief. "Oh, you mean he doesn't realize how much you care about him? It's like he has a one-track mind!"

"Exactly!" Wendy nodded, her expression earnest. "It's like he can't see the implications of us teaming up. From my perspective, it feels like a big deal, but to him, it's just another mission." She sighed, a mix of affection and exasperation filling her tone. "I mean, he's always so focused on fighting and having fun that he doesn't really notice the subtleties."

Lucy giggled, her laughter bright and infectious, lighting up the hallway. "Oh, that's classic Natsu! He's like a puppy who's just happy to be playing fetch, completely oblivious to the fact that he's chewing on his own tail!"

"More like a dragon that just wants to chase its tail," Erza added with a smirk, crossing her arms as she leaned back, fully entertained by the unfolding drama.

"Right?" Wendy chuckled, the humor easing some of her tension. "It's both charming and frustrating. Sometimes I wonder if he'll ever notice what's right in front of him! I mean, I could wear a sign that says, 'Hey, I have feelings for you!' and he'd probably think it's some kind of decoration!"

Mirajane burst out laughing, her eyes sparkling with mischief. "Oh, Wendy, that sounds like a perfect plan! But I can't guarantee he won't just think it's a cute new fashion trend!"

"And if he doesn't?" Lucy leaned in closer, a teasing glint in her eyes. "What are you going to do? Just let him go on thinking you're just his healer?"

Wendy blushed, shaking her head with a determined grin. "No, it's not like that! I want him to understand how much this means to me—to us! But I guess I'll have to be patient with him."

"Good luck with that!" Erza chuckled, patting Wendy on the shoulder as if she were sending her off to battle. "Natsu's as predictable as a firework show—exciting, but you never know how it will end!"

Just then, Natsu returned, practically bouncing on his feet as he approached the group, his energy radiating like a blazing sun. "I got the job approved!" he exclaimed, a wide grin plastered on his face. "We're heading out tomorrow morning!"

Lucy clapped her hands together. "That's great! What kind of job is it?"

"It's a wyvern-hunting mission! Can you believe it?" Natsu beamed, completely oblivious to the subtle exchange that had just happened.

"Wendy and I will show everyone how awesome we are together!"

Wendy felt a surge of excitement and apprehension. "Uh, yeah! We'll definitely show them!" she managed, her heart racing. She exchanged glances with Lucy, Erza, and Mirajane, who all wore knowing smiles.

"Just make sure you don't get roasted!" Mirajane teased, a playful smirk on her lips.

"And if you do, make sure it's on a day when I'm not cooking!" Lucy added with a laugh.

Wendy couldn't help but giggle, feeling lighter despite the teasing. "I'll do my best not to let Natsu end up as wyverns dinner!"

As Natsu rambled on about strategies and the thrill of the hunt, Wendy found herself lost in his exuberance. The way he spoke with passion, his eyes sparkling with determination, was infectious. She couldn't deny the excitement bubbling within her at the thought of being on an adventure together again.

"Hey, Wendy?" Mirajane said softly, drawing her attention. "Just remember, it's okay to express how you feel. Natsu might be dense, but he cares about you in his own way."

Wendy nodded, feeling a sense of reassurance in Mirajane's words. "I know, and I'll figure out how to show him. It's just going to take some time."

Erza smiled approvingly. "You're stronger than you think, Wendy. Just keep being yourself, and things will fall into place."

Wendy felt her resolve strengthen as she watched Natsu animatedly discussing their mission with their friends. This was her chance to forge a new path, to explore not just their friendship but what lay beneath it.

One week later

After a week of travel, Natsu and Wendy stood at the edge of a dense forest, armed with their supplies and determination. The sun shone brightly overhead, illuminating the path that lay ahead. "This is it, Wendy! Our first quest as a team!" Natsu declared, his eyes sparkling with excitement.

"Just remember, Natsu, we need to stick together. If we encounter a wyvern, we have to coordinate our attacks," Wendy said, her voice steady, betraying a hint of nervousness. "And stay alert! They're not just powerful; they can also be sneaky."

"Got it!" Natsu replied, his grin widening. "I'll take the lead, and you just follow my lead!"

"That's not exactly how teamwork works, Natsu," Wendy said, rolling her eyes playfully.

"But fine, if you want to go first, just be careful."

With that, the two plunged into the forest, the leaves rustling around them. Natsu's heart raced with anticipation as he pushed forward, his mind buzzing with visions of battling wyverns. Wendy followed closely, her senses heightened as she scanned the surroundings for any signs of danger.

As they trekked deeper into the woods, they came across various creatures—small magical beasts that flitted about and chirped cheerfully, unaware of the duo's quest. Natsu marveled at the sights around him, his inner child bubbling with joy at the simple beauty of nature.

"Look, Wendy!" Natsu pointed excitedly at a group of shimmering butterflies dancing in the sunlight.

"Aren't they cool?"

Wendy paused to admire them, her heart warmed by Natsu's childlike wonder. "They really are," she agreed.

"But we should keep moving; we need to find the wyverns."

"Right, right! Let's go!" Natsu said, waving his hand dismissively at the butterflies before forging ahead.

As they traveled, the atmosphere gradually shifted. The cheerful sounds of nature faded, replaced by an eerie silence that sent shivers down Wendy's spine.

"Natsu, do you feel that?" she whispered, her eyes narrowing as she scanned the surroundings.

"Yeah… I think we're close," Natsu replied, a serious look overtaking his usual exuberance. "Stay sharp."

Before long, they stumbled upon a clearing, and at its center stood a massive wyvern, its scales glimmering ominously in the fading light. The creature's wings unfurled, revealing a wingspan that could easily dwarf Natsu. Its eyes glowed with a predatory gleam, locking onto the intruders.

"Natsu! It's huge!" Wendy gasped, her heart pounding in her chest.

Natsu stepped forward, his determination igniting like a flame. "This is it, Wendy! Let's show this guy what we're made of!"

"Wait! We need to—" Wendy started, but it was too late. Natsu charged forward, fists raised and ready to unleash his fiery attacks.

The wyvern roared, shaking the ground beneath them as it took to the air, its wings creating a gust that nearly knocked Wendy off her feet. "Natsu, wait! Be careful!" she shouted, scrambling to catch up.

With a mighty leap, Natsu launched himself at the wyvern, flames dancing around his fists.

"Fire Dragon's Roar!" he yelled, unleashing a torrent of fire toward the creature.

The wyvern twisted in mid-air, narrowly dodging the attack and swooping down toward Natsu. It lashed out with its claws, and Natsu barely managed to dodge, rolling to the side.

"Wendy, now!" he shouted, glancing back at her.

Wendy quickly summoned her magic, her hands glowing with healing energy as she prepared to support Natsu. "I'm ready! Just keep it distracted!"

"Alright! Here goes!" Natsu charged forward once more. As he engaged the wyvern, Wendy didn't hesitate to cast her offensive spells.

"I'll cover you, Natsu!"

"Sky Dragon's Soaring Fist!" She quickly ran and struck the wyvern's body with her enhanced attack only to see it turn to her not phased by the impact of her strike. She quickly retreated giving herself space as she then channeled her magic, gathering power for her next attack.

"Sky Dragon's Roar!" a large vortex of air surged from her mouth as it struck the wyvern getting its attention and giving Natsu the time he needed to cause more damage as he darted in closer to the wyvern, throwing a flurry of punches while dodging its swift claws.

But the wyvern wasn't going to let them off easy. It twisted in the air, letting out a ferocious roar that echoed through the forest. Natsu quickly dodged a swipe of its tail, but Wendy was prepared.

"Natsu, behind you!" she shouted, and before he could react, she cast a protective shield around him. The tail hit the barrier with a resounding thud, the magic absorbing the impact.

"Nice one, Wendy!" Natsu grinned, refocusing his attention on the wyvern.

"Let's keep it up!"

"Just be careful, Natsu! It's strong!" Wendy urged, determination sparking in her eyes. She moved strategically around the battlefield, preparing for her next spell.

"I'll keep healing you, but I can also attack!" she said, feeling more confident as they worked together.

"Then let's do this!" Natsu shouted. "I'll draw its attention!"

Natsu charged again, throwing a punch that connected with the wyvern's snout. It roared in pain, and in that moment, Wendy seized her opportunity.

"Sky Dragon's Whip!" she cried, summoning a powerful gust of wind that surged forward, striking the wyvern in its underbelly.

The creature staggered back, but it quickly regained its balance. Natsu seized the moment, unleashing a series of fiery punches.

"Fire Dragon's Iron Fist!" he shouted, engulfing his fist in flames as he aimed for the wyvern's wing.

"Just like that! Keep it up, Natsu!" Wendy cheered, her heart racing as she saw Natsu land a solid hit. She focused on maintaining her spells, channeling her energy into her support magic.

"Sky Dragon's Healing Wind!" she called out, sending a wave of healing energy toward Natsu, who was already getting tired from the relentless battle.

Natsu felt the magic wash over him, revitalizing his strength. "Thanks, Wendy! You're amazing!" he said, confidence surging back as he charged again. "Let's show this guy what we're made of!"

"Right!" Wendy nodded, her resolve strengthening as she prepared her next spell. "Let's end this! I'll boost your power even more!"

She concentrated hard, her magic swirling around her hands.

"lle Arms x lle Vernier x lle Armor " A wave of energy radiated from her, enhancing Natsu's strength further.

"Here I go!"

"Fire Dragon's Crimson Burst!" Natsu unleashed a powerful blast of fire, targeting the wyvern with all his might. The flames engulfed the creature, illuminating the clearing in a fiery glow.

The wyvern screeched in agony, its wings flapping wildly as it struggled to stay airborne. Wendy felt a surge of exhilaration as they pushed forward, knowing they were on the brink of victory. "Natsu, finish it off!" she shouted, her heart racing.

With one final push, Natsu launched himself into the air, gathering all his energy.

"Fire Dragon's Flame Bomb!" He slammed his fists together, creating a massive explosion of fire that engulfed the wyvern completely. The force of the blast sent shockwaves through the forest, shaking the trees around them.

The wyvern screeched one last time before it plummeted to the ground, its massive body finally stilling. Natsu and Wendy stood victorious, panting heavily from their efforts.

"Did we really just do that?" Natsu said, disbelief etched on his face as he gazed at the fallen wyvern.

Wendy beamed, her heart swelling with pride. "We did! I can't believe we took it down together!"

"I told you we'd be awesome!" Natsu exclaimed, throwing his arms in the air. "The Sky and Flame Team is unbeatable!"

Wendy laughed, feeling lighter than air as they celebrated their hard-earned victory. "I can't wait to tell everyone! This is going to be an adventure we'll never forget!"

As they began to leave the forest, they felt an undeniable bond of trust. They had faced the wyvern together, proving their strength and unity as a team. Wendy felt a warm glow in her heart, knowing that no matter what challenges lay ahead, they could overcome anything as long as they stood together.

"Next time, let's go for a bigger wyvern!" Natsu said, his eyes gleaming with excitement. "I want to see what else we can do!"

Wendy chuckled, playfully shoving his shoulder. "Let's focus on getting back safely first! Besides, I think this was more than enough excitement for one day."

"Come on, Wendy! Where's your sense of adventure?" Natsu teased, but he smiled warmly at her, appreciating her cautious nature.

"Right here, right beside you," she replied, a confident smile on her face. And with that, they set off, ready for whatever adventures awaited them in the future.

.

As Natsu and Wendy walked side by side along the path still in the forest, the evening sun dipped below the horizon, casting a golden hue over everything. Their first mission as a duo had been a success, and Natsu couldn't stop grinning, arms behind his head, his steps light and carefree.

"So," he said with a wide grin, "what do you wanna do now that we're done, Wendy? We really showed that wyvern who's boss, huh?"

Wendy's cheeks turned a faint pink as she glanced away for a moment, gathering her courage. "I-I think… I want to keep doing missions with you, Natsu," she said quietly, forcing herself to look him in the eyes. "Maybe this time he'll understand," she thought hopefully. "I mean, I think we make a great team."

Natsu's grin only grew wider. "Oh yeah! We're the best team! You were amazing out there, Wendy—like, seriously! I had no idea you could throw a punch like that!" He gave her a friendly pat on the shoulder, completely missing the nervousness in her eyes.

Wendy sighed, a smile tugging at her lips despite her frustration. "How can someone be so talented and yet so clueless?" she thought. "He's probably the only guy who could hear a confession and think it's a battle strategy."

They continued along the road, and Wendy tried again, inching closer so their arms brushed together. She felt her heart race as she waited for him to notice, hoping for some sort of reaction. But Natsu was completely absorbed in his animated retelling of their battle, hands gesturing wildly as he described his new, "super-cool fire fist technique."

"He's so dense, it's like trying to confess my feelings to a brick wall," Wendy thought, half-amused, half-exasperated. She loved how passionate he got about fighting, but sometimes she wished he'd be just as enthusiastic about… other things. Like her.

They reached the edge of of the forest, and Wendy decided to be bolder. She stopped in her tracks and took a deep breath. "Natsu," she said, hesitating for only a second, "there's a festival in the next village tonight. They say it's the most beautiful one of the year, with lanterns, fireworks, and lots of food. I thought… maybe we could go. Just the two of us? We don't have to hurry back to the guild yet. We can stay at an inn for tonight then we can head out tomorrow morning."

Natsu's eyes lit up instantly. "A festival?! That sounds awesome! I love festivals!" he exclaimed, a wide grin spreading across his face. Wendy's heart skipped a beat, feeling a rush of excitement. "Is this it? Does he get it?" she thought.

"Yeah, it'll be fun," she said, her voice almost a whisper. "You know… it could be like… a date?"

Natsu's expression grew even more excited. "A date?! You mean, like, for food?! Oh man, I hope they have those fried noodles with the sauce! And the candy apples! And—"

Wendy's eye twitched. "Of course. It's always food with him."

"Yes, Natsu. Food. We can have food," she said, her voice strained as she forced a smile.

By the time they arrived at the festival, Natsu was practically bouncing with excitement. Wendy clung to a shred of hope that the romantic atmosphere—the glowing lanterns, the soft music, the warmth of the crowd—would finally clue him in. But within five minutes, he was dragging her from food stall to food stall, practically inhaling everything in sight.

"Natsu, slow down!" Wendy giggled, trying to keep up. She handed him a stick of sticky buns, her fingers brushing against his in what she hoped was a meaningful gesture.

"Here," she said with a soft smile, her cheeks pink. "I thought you might like to try this."

Natsu's face lit up, oblivious to the blush on Wendy's face. "Wow, thanks, Wendy! You're always thinking of me!" he said cheerfully before taking a big bite. "This is delicious!" he added with his mouth full.

"He's like a puppy, but without the ability to understand affection," Wendy thought, feeling her heart sink and swell at the same time. She couldn't decide if she wanted to laugh or cry.

As they made their way through the festival, Wendy tried every trick she could think of to make Natsu notice her feelings. She leaned in closer whenever they paused to watch a performance, only for Natsu to be completely mesmerized by a juggling act. She took his hand to guide him through a crowded part of the street, her fingers lingering in his longer than necessary, but he simply squeezed her hand back and thanked her for not letting him get lost.

"Wendy, you're the best!" he said brightly, giving her a thumbs-up. Wendy's eye twitched again. "Does he think he's talking to a friend? How can he not realize how much I'm trying here?"

By the time they reached a quieter part of the festival, Wendy was feeling desperate. She spotted a small booth selling matching bracelets—simple leather bands with little dragon scales attached. "This is perfect! Maybe a gift will make him understand!"

She pulled Natsu over to the booth, her heart hammering in her chest. "Look," she said, trying to keep her voice casual. "These are kind of cool, don't you think? We could get matching ones. You know… to remember this night."

Natsu blinked, looking genuinely touched. "Wow, Wendy, that's a great idea! You always think of the coolest stuff!" he said, immediately reaching for his wallet to buy two. Wendy's heart soared for a second—until he handed her the bracelet with a big, innocent grin.

"Here! Now we can be mission buddies with matching bracelets!" he said cheerfully, completely unaware of the significance she'd attached to the gesture. Wendy's hopes deflated like a popped balloon.

"Mission buddies?" she thought in disbelief, staring at him in shock. "Is he serious?!"

They wandered to a quieter spot by the river, where fireworks were scheduled to start soon. Wendy, determined not to give up, decided to make one last, bold move. As the first bursts of color exploded in the sky, she leaned her head against Natsu's shoulder, holding her breath. It was now or never.

Natsu didn't move away. Instead, he chuckled and ruffled her hair affectionately. "Hey, you're acting all sleepy," he teased, completely unaware of the way Wendy's heart was practically pounding out of her chest. "It's been a long day, huh?"

Wendy closed her eyes, her frustration and fondness for him mixing into a confusing whirl of emotions. "Yeah… it has," she said softly, a resigned smile forming on her lips. "Why did I fall for the densest guy on the planet?"

Meanwhile, Natsu's thoughts were a completely different story. "Wendy's always so nice to me,"

He mused happily, genuinely appreciating her warmth and kindness. "I should get her something really cool to thank her for being such a good friend! Maybe… a giant turkey leg from the next festival? She'd love that! Yeah, that'll make her happy!"

As the fireworks continued to light up the night, Wendy sighed and gave up trying—at least for now. She'd keep walking by his side, keep laughing at his silly antics, and keep hoping that someday he'd understand what she was really trying to say.

And until then… well, she'd just have to love the clueless, innocent guy who didn't even realize he'd stolen her heart long ago. Because, dense as he was, Natsu was still Natsu—and that was what made him so impossible not to love.

With a small smile, she slipped her hand into his. He blinked, looked down, and then smiled back, squeezing her hand without a second thought.

"Wendy," he said seriously, "we're gonna have the best missions ever together. I know it."

She laughed softly, her voice filled with both amusement and longing. "Yeah, Natsu," she said, her tone warm. "We will."

A/N: Hey everyone! First of all, I just want to say a huge thank you for all the love, support, and patience you've shown for this story! I know it's been a while, actually that's a large understatement since it's been years since i started this story. But I have some great news—I'm finally going to be updating the story more regularly! Life's been a bit hectic, but I've been hard at work planning out the next chapters, and I'm so excited to share them with you. I can't guarantee an exact time for updates but know that i am heavy at work writing the next couple of chapters in a feverish pace.

In this chapter, I really wanted to focus on Wendy's heartfelt and, let's be honest, *hilarious* struggle to make Natsu realize her feelings. Natsu's dense nature is part of what makes him so charming, but it's also what drives Wendy (and, let's face it, all of us) a little crazy sometimes. Watching Wendy try so hard while Natsu remains completely oblivious was both fun and a little bittersweet to write, and I hope you all got a good laugh out of it while also rooting for her.

But don't think the emotional rollercoaster ends here! In the coming chapters, Natsu's story is about to get a lot more complicated, especially as he reconnects with some other important people in his life. That's right—Erza and Mirajane will soon be making a return, and Natsu will find himself dealing with two more women who are just as important to him. Both Erza and Mira have always shared a deep bond with Natsu, and their reappearance is bound to stir up a whole new set of emotions, challenges, and… let's just say, *very* interesting situations.

Wendy's journey to make her feelings known isn't over yet, but she might find herself facing some unexpected competition—or maybe even allies—in her quest to get through to the flame-headed dragon slayer. With Erza's unyielding determination and Mirajane's caring, mischievous nature, Natsu is about to get hit with a wave of feelings he's not prepared for, and it's sure to be a mix of comedy, chaos, and heartfelt moments.

As always, I'm super grateful for your support and feedback. Your comments are what keep me motivated whether they be good neutral or disappointing, and I'd love to hear what you think about Wendy's attempts in this chapter! I have so many plans for the story's future, including deeper character moments, fun interactions, and some big plot twists that I hope will surprise you.

Thanks again for sticking with me, and I hope you're as excited as I am for what's coming next. I promise, this time, the updates are going to be much more frequent, and I can't wait to take you all on this journey with Natsu, Wendy, Erza, and Mira!

Get ready for more laughs, heartfelt moments, and a few unexpected surprises! Stay tuned, and I'll see you in the next chapter!
