When they got ack to New York Howard and Peggy were shocked to see two Bucky's and it was hard to explain everything. Bucky took the time to finally make his final and biggest amens. With Sam's help.
Sam couldn't be more proud of him for doing that.
While younger Bucky was resting future Bucky had stuck with the Commandos taking care of HYDRA like old times but making it quicker and easier after being a HYDRA himself for seventy years.
Peggy, Howard and Phillips were all heartbroken at what he had been through but were happy he was doing better, had more friends and teammates.
They were shocked at how many bases they missed and were getting more and more thankful to have him there by the day.
Steve had decided to step down as leader of the Commandos for now with noticing how much more experience Bucky has with leadership, HYDRA, combat, everything Steve was still pretty new at.
Peggy, Howard and Phillips started to notice that to and when they saw he had new dog tags after being cleared they agreed he deserved a higher position and Sam agreed.
It took some talking to but after a while Bucky accepted and he now went by Lieutenant James Buchanan Barnes.
The Commandos and Sam celebrated and couldn't be more proud.
They were on a mission right now and it was only Bucky, Steve and Sam left.
"Captain America, Lieutenant Barnes and Sergeant Wilson." Red Skull said.
"Who are you?!" Sam asked in shock.
"That's Johann Schmidt AKA Red Skull. The guy that volunteered for the first formula." Steve said.
"Didn't go to well, did it?"
"No. Even mine went better." Bucky said feeling a little nauseous but swallowed it.
"I can see the Winter Soldier program comes true with you in the future." Red Skull said and Bucky glared at it and aimed a shot at him getting him to jump.
"Not anymore."
"Apparently you never lost your sniper skills either." Red Skull muttered and was hit in the chest by a knife. "Ah!"
"I'm a master assassin, master martial artist, knife mastery, master marksman, expert tactician, pilot and multilingualis. I can speak English, Romanian, Russian, Xhosa and understand both German and Japanese. All. Because. Of. HYDRA!" Bucky yelled and unleashed full Winter Soldier shooting Red Skull nonstop.
Steve pulled Sam behind him using the shield to block all the shots while watching in horror and shock at what their best friend is doing.
When he stopped Steve slowly lowered the shield and saw Red Skull not moving, full of blood and shots.
"W-what did you do?" Steve asked while Bucky stood there panting with shaky hands.
"I, I, I," Bucky said realizing what he did. "Oh shit." he said.
"Hey, hey, hey," Sam said gently and Bucky looked at him. "You're OK. You just kicked Red Skull's ass. You have any idea what you just did for the future?" he asked and Bucky shook his head to out of it to realize. "You just stopped the Tesseract from disappearing in the ocean, Howard Stark finding it and taking it out, Loki attacking New York with it in 2012, Red Skull ending up in a different planet with the Soul Stone and us losing Natasha, Thanos getting the stone, and so much more." he said gently and got closer. "And you stopped Steve from being frozen. Steve won't end up frozen for almost seventy years which means this you won't end up alone." he said gently and Bucky took a shaky breath but nodded. "You got Zola, freed your past self from HYDRA before it got to bad, stopped so many bad things from happening in our time in the future and even ended up a lieutenant. Who are you?"
"I am lieutenant James Bucky Barnes. Captain America's partner and redeemed hero Winter Soldier."
"Who are you not?"
"I am no longer villain Winter Soldier."
"Exactly." Sam said and Bucky took a deep breath coming back.
"Thanks."
"That's why I'm here." Sam said patting him on the back.
Then Bucky looked at Steve and smiled.
"We did it." Bucky said and Steve smiled.
"You did it pal." Steve said and it hit him. "Oh my god. YOU BEET RED SKULL!" he yelled smiling wide.
"I most certainly did punk!" Bucky said and they gave each other a high five.
"Damn straight!" Sam said joining them.
"Let's go and tell the others!" Steve said and they started running back to SSR.
When they got there they saw everyone pacing and looking worried until they heard the door open and saw them.
"Well?" Peggy asked. "Did you get the last one?"
"Oh we got more than the last one Pegs." Steve said smiling.
"What do you mean?" Howard asked.
"We ran into Red Skull." Sam said and they gasped.
"What happened?"
"Are you OK?"
"How are you alive?!"
More and more questions were asked until Steve raised a hand to get them all to stop.
"Relax, we're all fine." he said and they all sighed in relief.
"What happened?" Phillips asked and Sam and Steve looked at Bucky getting everyone else to look at him.
"He realized that the Winter Soldier program he wanted to work with me here worked with me in my time. So I told him what it gave me and unleashed the full and true Winter Soldier. I stabbed him in the chest with a knife I keep with me and shot him everywhere so many times he lost enough blood to be dead in seconds." Bucky said smirking with his arms crossed and a foot on the door wall while everyone looked at him in shock.
They all blinked a few times until it hit them and they started to clap and cheer realizing that the war was finally over thanks to Bucky.
Bucky smiled and looked at Sam who looked at him back.
He had stopped more than World War II. He had stopped multiple problems in the future, problems they couldn't stop at their time but could in this time.
When they stopped clapping and cheering to Bucky's surprise all the soldiers saluted him with respect that he wasn't used to. Sam and Steve smiled and included so he stood up strong and tall smiling.
A few days later after the news that the war was over Bucky and Sam were getting ready to head back to their time.
The past Bucky had thanked them for saving him and future Bucky was glad to do it.
The one thing he wasn't happy about was losing Steve but knew he had no choice.
He looked at Steve for the last time and smirked.
"Don't do anything stupid until I get back." Bucky said and Steve couldn't help but smiled.
"How can I? You're taking all the stupid with you." Steve said smiling.
"Punk."
"Jerk."
Sam smiled a little and then they were gone.
A few seconds later they were at Bucky's apartment looking around.
"That took, what? Two months?" Sam said and Bucky looked at his phone.
"Yeah, two months." Bucky said.
"Damn. Sarah, Cass and AJ must be worries sick."
"Why don't you call them and I'll order us a pizza? You can spend the night here."
"Sounds good." Sam said and went to call Sarah while Bucky went to order some pizza.
Before they knew it it had been a month since Bucky and Sam saved past Steve and Bucky and Bucky was at his apartment looking at something in shock.
"Shit." he said.
