Seiki Academy
It was the second week of school and class 3-1 was full of chattering students. Tatsuki and her friends were sitting at the back of the room, discussing on their venture seriously. Miyu was discussing with Tatsuki on the trainee project in the Sun Entertainment. A rising company in the showbiz industry that was established three years ago. They had an all-round musician, Ice, and an A-Listed pop singer, Gale. Besides that, the two-time awards winning actress, Ito Yuki was also under their contracts. Shin was looking through the reports on his laptop. He had a company named ST Corporations which had a few restaurants and two condominiums under his care. Haruka was reading some magazines while listening. On the other hand, Tatsuki was sketching on the paper as she gave Miyu her opinions on the project. She began clearing her outstanding works as she was going to travel during her summer breaks. She gathered the papers together, reviewed them and passed it to Haruka. Haruka was smiling brightly as she went through. It was the summer collection of their brand, Aint Couture. Aint Couture was a Japanese Fashion brand dealing with luxury fashion with a fashion house in Ginza. It also had a streetwear brand named Tatsu under this fashion house. Tatsu was a niche fashion brand that was not meant for mass market. These companies were initiated by Tatsuki but invested heavily by her friends. She held only a quarter of the companies' shares while the majority were owned by her friends. She acted as their advisor with minimum involvement in the management of the companies. Tatsuki turned to Asahi who was waiting to get her full attention to the file on her desk. Tatsuki and Asahi was invested in a medical and technology company with the name of AT Meditech. This was the only company that Tatsuki had a full management role with 40% shares. Asahi was holding 50% shares and the remaining shares was under Fujiwara Kaito, Tatsuki's foster brother. Tatsuki went through each drawing and details of medical equipment thoroughly as she made some amendments.
Shin was discussing with the two girls on their school trip in June. Miyu suggested mountain venue so they could have some hiking adventure. They knew that Tatsuki was not keen on beaches for school trip.
"By the way, did Omiya-sensei tell you about the Mathematics and Science Olympiad?" Shin asked Tatsuki.
"Nope. I need to participate anyway," Tatsuki replied boringly.
Suddenly, a ball of paper was darting towards Tatsuki's direction. Within a millisecond, Tatsuki caught the ball with her right hand.
"Sizzzz..." she hissed when she felt something stung her fingers.
"Are you ok?" Miyu and Haruka asked when they saw some blood dripping down her hand.
Shin ran up towards the new transferred girl who was sitting near the door and was already strangled her neck. Her face was as white as a piece of paper, trying to catch her breath. Tatsuki walked over to Shin and told him to release the girl. She gave the girl a fierce gaze before she walked out of the class. Asahi informed her manager, Ms. Sora, immediately about her injury. The students in the class were shocked and stayed away from the new girl. She was frightened by Shin's reaction but she never knew how serious the consequences were when she thought that Tatsuki was just a poor scholarship student with no background. Her parents were called and she was suspended from school immediately by the school's board.
Ms. Sora rushed into the school nurse office and took her girl to Tokyo University Hospital, which was not far away. A stylish lady in black suit walked straight into an outpatient clinic with her pianist to where her doctor friend, Dr. Tanaka, was waiting. Tatsuki was sitting calmly as the doctor examined her right hand. There was a long cut on her palm and a few cuts on her fingers. She was listening to Ms. Sora's scolding quietly. She knew she was concerned about her hand, which had been insured for a large sum of money. Luckily, her piano performance was just over. The doctor asked his pre-med student to do the wound dressing for the girl. The student gently washed the wound, applied medication and wrapped with bandages.
"Sora-San, it's done. I'll going home now," Tatsuki said and prepared to leave.
"Don't use your right hand for the time being," Sora reminded the girl.
Sora took a glance at her watch and was rushing to an important appointment.
"No worries, I can go home by myself. You'd better go before you're late," Tatsuki assured her manager.
Sora saw the doctor, who was her friend, packing up. She asked her friend for help as she could not just let the girl to go home on her own liked this. Dr. Tanaka remembered that his pre-med student was staying in a suburb of Tokyo. He checked with his student and asked if he could help when they were staying in the same prefecture. Tatsuki was trying to stop her manager for troubling the student, but failed. Sora was checking out with Dr. Tanaka on the student if she could entrust the girl with him. After some negotiations and Sora's insistence, Tatsuki left with no choice but to follow the student to his car.
"I'm Takahashi Ryosuke," he introduced himself.
"Fujiwara Tatsuki," she replied with a polite bow.
The older man looked at her with some curiosity and helped to carry her bag. Her name was familiar but he thought it was just a coincidence to have the same name. She was on the phone with her friends, assuring them that she was fine. She told them not to be too harsh to that new girl. It was quite an awkward moment for Tatsuki to be in a car with a stranger.
Ryosuke was checking on his passenger from time to time. She was just sitting quietly behaving like she was not exist. The atmosphere was a little uncomfortable for some time.
"Emm... where do you want me to drop off in Shibukawa?" he asked.
"At the train station please, thank you," she replied.
"What happened today?" he asked.
"This? Just some pranks from a new student," she replied and staring at the bandage.
Tatsuki went into her silence again after her reply. Ryosuke was not good in engaging conversation with a young girl like her. Tatsuki thanked the driver before she got out of the car. She bowed and slowly walking down the street. Ryosuke watched the girl for a moment and drove off towards Maebashi.
Bunta hung up the phone when he saw his daughter came home with bandages on her fingers and hand. Tatsuki told her father what happened in school and assured him that it was just a small injury. She just afraid that her father would make the matter worse like what he did when she was in her first year of high school.
"There is a race next Saturday. The guy requested for you," Bunta said while his eyes were still looking at the bandage.
"Oyaji, you want me to go with this?" she replied and waved her injured hand.
"No. I'm just helping that guy passing you a message," he said.
"What will you do, Oyaji?"
He rubbed her head, "I'll accept the challenge and of course, I will defeat him."
"Do you think I can win?"
"Should be no problem," he replied with confidence.
Tatsuki just went up to her room without any words. She did not feel like going to the race. She could not understand why some people were excited about it.
It was another morning delivery but there was a familiar car parking along the pass. Tatsuki pulled over behind the yellow RX7. She got out of the car, yawning. It was Takahashi Keisuke, the guy that she raced with him last Saturday. She was puzzled why he came here this morning. Keisuke was startled when he saw her real face without cap and mask. He even wondered if this was the same person who defeated him last weekend. He came up to tell her to defeat the GTR next Saturday. He got very angry when she told him that she had no intention to accept the challenge. She could not understand what he was saying and disagreed with him. The girl watched the RX7 roared down the road in annoyance. Bunta was surprised when his girl came home twenty minutes later than her usual time. Tatsuki went straight to bed, forgot everything about Keisuke.
Tatsuki sat down on her seat in the classroom. She noticed that the class was quieter than usual. The new girl was not in the class today. She knew for sure that the girl and her family were having some trouble with their business. Haruka's family had canceled all projects with the girl's family. It should have a big impact on their business. Tatsuki did not care the new girl's reason for doing that to her. Her manager was also in the midst of suing her family for compensation. It was going to be a huge amount. She looked at her hand and the bandage. It was not hurt anymore. She could make the wound heal faster but she was unwilling to use her own medicine. Part of her wanted this injury to avoid the race challenge with the GTR. She still had to go to the hospital for a check-up this afternoon.
The nerdy looking girl walked into Tokyo University Hospital after school. She went straight to the same clinic that Ms. Sora brought her previously. She met with Dr. Tanaka and Ryosuke again. Her hand was recovered well and she could try practicing anytime. Again, the doctor asked if Ryosuke could send the girl home. She left with the medical student after a short while. Ryosuke had a class at the campus so he asked the girl to wait for him at the cafeteria. Tatsuki was obediently sitting at the table next to the window. She took out her laptop and started to do her thesis on music arts. Two hours later, Ryosuke came out from the auditorium with his friends. They were surprised when they saw him talking a high school girl at the cafeteria.
"Your new girlfriend?" One of his classmates asked curiously.
"No, she's Tanaka-Sensei's patient. I got to go," Ryosuke replied and led the girl to his car, leaving the guys teasing behind him.
"Are you hungry? We can have dinner before going back," Ryosuke asked his passenger.
"Anything," Tatsuki replied.
"Do you normally so quiet?" He asked curiously.
"Hai," she nodded.
Ryosuke brought her to a small restaurant nearby. They were quietly eating their Udon noodle. He was wondering if she had any friends with such an introvert personality. Sometimes he even thought that she might spilled gold if she talked. She was so quiet that he almost forgot her presence. Tatsuki asked the driver if she could use her laptop while in his car. Ryosuke nodded as he did not know how to engage her in any of his conversations. The girl was busy tapping on her keyboard using only her left hand all the while they were in the car. After thirty minutes, she closed her eyes and slowly massaged her temple. He drove into the resting area at the petrol station along the highway. He got her a bottle of water. He adjusted her seat backwards so she could be more comfortable. Tatsuki felt quite uneasy when he was so closed to her.
"You seem so tensed up," he found her awkward facial expression interesting and began to tease her.
Tatsuki was almost glued to her seat and tried very hard to breathe normally when she smelled his musky scent of his cologne. Her hands were unconsciously clenched together causing a twitch when she felt a sharp pain from her hand. Ryosuke grabbed her right hand and checked on the wound. She jerked a little when he pressed on the one of the fingers and her palm.
"I think you should rest your hand for a few more days," he said, still holding on to her hand.
"Ok... Can you move away now? You're too close," she said softly.
Ryosuke chuckled and drove out of the resting area, continued their journey. He suddenly found her resemble the pianist, Luna. He overheard Tanaka-Sensei talking about Ms. Sora being the manager of Luna. So, could she be that famous pianist? He dropped her off at the same train station. He saw the girl adjusting her nerdy spectacle before exiting his car.
"Can I give you a lift to school tomorrow?" he asked before she got out of the car. "What time do you normally go to school?"
"No, thank you." She replied politely.
"What if I insist?" He smiled.
"I have my monthly pass and it would be a waste if I don't use it. Don't trouble yourself," she refused, as she could not imagine what her friends would react if they saw someone drop her off.
"I will be waiting here tomorrow morning. See ya," he cut her off, knowing well that she would say no.
Tatsuki got out of the car and bowed politely before she walked home. He just grew curious about this girl. He could not deny that he was attracted to the beautiful pianist and this quiet girl. He found the way she reacted to his closeness quite enjoyable, especially she showed a different expression.
As told, Ryosuke was waiting for her at the station early the next morning. Tatsuki let out a deep sigh when she saw the man leaning against his white sports car. He looked at her clearly for the first time. She was not like the normal high school girls. Her uniform was very neat, just the same as the picture printed in the student handbook. Her skirt was below her knees. Her hair was tied up neatly in braided ponytail. 'Was she a model student or something?' he thought. She greeted him briefly and got into his car without argument. She still put on her headphones and took out a book to read. He looked at the girl who was highlighted on a biomedical book. He was very surprised to see her reading such book, especially in English. They arrived in Tokyo earlier than her usual time so he decided to have breakfast before dropping her off at the school.
Tatsuki became the talk of the school that morning when she was spotted getting out of a sport car. Her friends were asking her about who was the driver. She told them that he was a medical student that Sora-San asked him to send her home previously. She ignored them and slept on her desk as usual.
Tatsuki and Miyu went to Sun Entertainment after school. They went straight to their respective office before they met the managing director, Ms. Karen White. Miyu was the CEO of the company while Tatsuki was the artist and songwriter here. Tatsuki left to see the number one musician, Ice, at the recording studio. She met Gale as well. They were talking about his next album and the music video. Gale asked if she could do one music video with him in his upcoming album. Tatsuki agreed since she had been written a number of songs for him. She left the office in the evening.
It was Ryosuke usual hang-out time at Roppongi after his class. The white FC drove down the busy street, turning towards his favorite club direction. At the same time, Tatsuki was waiting at the traffic light when she saw the white sports car stop in front of the red light. Ryosuke winded down the window, cueing her to get into his car. She got into the car and fastened the seatbelt.
"What are you doing here?" he asked as soon as she got in.
"Meeting some friends," she replied and asked back. "What about you?"
"I was planning to hang out at the club around that corner. Anyway, let's go for dinner," he replied.
He brought her to an Italian restaurant at Roppongi Hill. Tatsuki just accompanied him, as she had a few snacks during the discussion in the studio. They were quietly having their dinner until they were spotted by his friends. His friends were amused by the looks of Ryosuke's new girl. None of them expected he was dating with a nerdy looking high school girl. His previous girlfriend was very attractive. They were teasing him and the girl. Ryosuke asked his friends to leave them alone when he noticed that she was uncomfortable with them. The guys then went to their table further inside the restaurant.
"Sorry about my friends' behavior just now," he said.
Tatsuki nodded and asked, "Do you mind if I answer a call?"
"Go ahead," he replied.
Tatsuki sat back and answered her phone. It was from Shin, asking for her opinion on the newly acquired building in the heart of Shibuya. She told him that she could think of a few ideas tonight and they could brainstorm tomorrow. Ryosuke was amazed when he heard her talking to her friend about the market trends. Although it was a casual conversation, he could tell how smart she was. He also realized that she was not that quiet when it was work-related. The two then went straight to Gunma Prefecture after dinner. Again, he told her that he would see her tomorrow morning again.
Keisuke was surprised to see his brother home before 10pm, a few days in a row. He was ready to go clubbing at his favorite club in Takasaki. Ryosuke joined his brother for some relaxation. They were chatting about the GTR battle this Saturday. Keisuke told his brother how annoying the Hachi-Roku drover was when he spoke to her last week. He found his brother was more interested in the young female driver than himself. Keisuke's friends brought some girls to join them after a while. They were drinking and playing games. Ryosuke did not have any interest in the girls around him. Luna's picture kept flashing on his mind. He was getting frustrated and got up, making his way to the restroom. He decided to go home when he felt so bored hanging out here.
Ryosuke got home slightly before midnight. He could not believe that he was thinking of the pianist more often than he expected. It was the first time he desired for someone he did not know. For months, he had been buried in the loss of his love interest, Kaori. He always had her images and their memories in his mind. However, he did not know when those pictures had faded away and replaced by someone who he just met once. He was confused by the change that he just discovered.
Ryosuke was again waiting for Tatsuki along the train station the next morning. Tatsuki took a deep breath and slowly walked towards him. He opened the door for her which made her puzzled by his gentleman gestures. As usual, she pulled out her mathematics sheets and began to solve the problems. Her handwriting was very neat and beautiful even with her left hand. He thought she was a left-handed. He was amazed by her solving speed. She only took a glance at the question and immediately wrote her answer. She took only ten minutes to solve all the problems. After that, she took out an English book to read, today was a different topic. Her finger was tapping while reading to the rhythm of her music.
Ryosuke stretches his hand out and closed her book after half an hour. He felt that she needs an eye rest. Tatsuki was a little annoying when she was forced to stop reading. This was the reason that she did not want to go to school with this guy. She did not know what kind of conversation to engage with this medical student and she felt that he was a control freak. He noticed her slightest changed in her expression, knowing that she was unhappy.
"You can just take a nap. I'll wake you up when we reach Tokyo," he said while driving.
Tatsuki closed her eyes and dozed off in no time. Ryosuke chuckled softly when he saw the girl curled up in her seat while sleeping. The white FC slowly pulled over in front of a cafe near Seiki Academy. He woke the girl up and led her into the cafe for breakfast. Tatsuki looked at the sandwich set in front of her and began to eat. She told him not to fetch her after school as she had an appointment. He watched the girl walked towards her school before he drove off.
Bunta was waiting for his daughter in front of the shop in the evening. Tatsuki told him that she would be home early today. She quickly ran up to her room for a quick shower. She wore a little black backless mini dress. She looked at her father who had shredded his forty years old man look. Her father was in a stylish black shirt and pants which made him look at least ten years younger. At the first glance at his daughter's dress was quite modest with a long sleeved, but his face became stern when he saw her bare back. He took a few deep breaths, calming himself down. They then went out for dinner at a restaurant and continued to a pub in Takasaki. The girl was sitting at the table, looking around the place. It was the first time coming to this pub with her father. Bunta ordered a glass of Sangria for her. They were chatting and enjoying the live music. He allowed her to drink alcohol tonight. Ever since she turned eighteen years old, he brought her to clubs and pubs every fortnight to teach her about adulthood and nightlife. Tatsuki was enjoying the night out with her father.
The Takahashi brothers were at the same pub this evening with their Red Suns members. Keisuke was looking around for some fun tonight. He saw a young beautiful girl at a table nearby. However, he was disappointed to see an older man at the same table. He felt disgusted as he thought that she was with her sugar daddy. They were watching the girl dancing with the old man by their table.
"Oyaji, what will you do you if I come here with a guy?" She asked mischievously as she put her arms around her father's neck.
"I'll smack you." Bunta gave her warning gaze.
He looked at his daughter rolling her eyes with his adoration. He knew that there were people looking at them. After a dance, Tatsuki wrapped her arms around her father's arm as they walked out of the pub. He knew that his daughter was sleepy so it was time for them to return home. Tatsuki never stayed up late unless she needed to.
Tatsuki was still in her bed on Saturday morning. She was hardly had any free time lazing around ever since the school reopened. Her father closed the shop today and went out. She began to get up and began to do some housework before she got a bath.
Tatsuki went out to Takasaki for lunch. She already forgot about the battle with GTR tonight. She was window shopping in the largest mall after lunch. She stopped at the large billboard in the facet of the mall, watching the new released MV of Japan top artist, Ice. She could not remember when was the last time she was so free to wander around aimlessly.
Tatsuki returned home in the evening after grabbing some light dinner. The shop was still closed and her father was nowhere to be found. She just went up to her room for rest. However, her quiet night was interrupted by two young men after some time. She slowly put on her nerdy spectacles and cap before got out of the shop. Iketani and Kenji were trying to persuade her to go to Akina. Tatsuki sighed at how persistent these guys were. She pointed at the empty parking lot next to her shop, revealing that the car was not there. She also added that she did not know where her father was. She even told them that she never driven other car besides Toyota Trueno so she did not think she could just use any cars.
At 9.45pm, Bunta returned home in his slight adjustment Hachi-Roku. He was surprised to see Iketani at his shop at this hour. He looked at his plain looking daughter who was leaning against the door, waiting to send these men off.
"Since you got nothing interesting to do tonight, why don't you go to Akina and defeat that GTR?" Bunta asked his daughter before she was going into the house.
"Dad!" Tatsuki said and wave her hand lightly.
"It's not an excuse. Your hand is already healed..." Bunta replied softly and brought her into their house to negotiate with her to go to the race.
Tatsuki looking at her father in her amazement at how much he wanted her to accept the battle challenge. She knew that her father was a veteran street racer in Gunma. So, it was normal for him to want to defend his turf. She finally gave in and took the key from her father.
The Panda Hachi-Roku sped off towards Akina in no time. Tatsuki noticed how crowded the pass was tonight. There were people standing everywhere. She felt uncomfortable as she reached the starting line. After the car lined up at the starting point, she got out of the car while pulling her cap lowered. She briefly introduced herself to Nakazato Takeshi, the GTR driver. Their downhill battle started in no time. As she drove down the Akina course, she slowly discovered slight changes in the car. It was easier to maneuver compared to what she drove this morning. She gained more confidence in driving faster and clearing the corners faster than before. Her drifting was more precise, leaving barely a millimeter from the guardrail. It was a spectacular view of how the Hachi-Roku driver tackled this downhills course, especially from the Takahashi brothers who was following behind. The two brothers admitted that this driver was an expert on this course. Keisuke soon witnessed with his own eyes how he was defeated last week. He found that the driver was a crazy girl and disbelief at her skills. The two brothers watched the winning car disappeared into the street as they reached the bottom of the pass.
Tatsuki went straight home with a new feeling that was building up inside her. She gave her father a smile before telling him that it was kind of fun. She then went to her bedroom. Bunta was surprised by his daughter changes. It was a good sign that he wanted to see ever since he taught her how to drive a car. However, he was in trouble when he must bring her out tomorrow as a trade for his daughter's race with GTR.
Tatsuki was delighted when her father told her that they were going to a ski park later. The girl quickly ran back to her room and packed her snowboarding equipment. Bunta drove to Karuizawa snow park after waking her up. Tatsuki was sleeping in the passenger seat as usual. It was their family's day that Tatsuki always looking forward to every Sunday. The girl did not have specific hobbies or places to go. She just wanted her father to spend time together. Bunta was doing his best as a single parent. He could see how excited Tatsuki was when they reached the ski resort. His daughter was getting ready in her shocking pink snowboard jacket and pants with her unique design pink freestyle snowboard in her hand. He was staring at the bright pink girl from head to toes in front of him. It was a rare sight to see Tatsuki in this girly color. He finished his last puff of cigarette and followed her to the slope. He was getting unconfident of what an old man like him was doing here in the first place. It was a bad choice for suggesting this place. He began to wonder if he could reach the bottom in one piece. Tatsuki waited for her father to start before she followed him. She surfed beside him for a while before she sped up. It was a cooling and fun activity for her. Bunta was waiting for his daughter at the cafe after his first round. He knew that Tatsuki was going to be out there for hours until her energy had drained. They ended their day with onsen bath before returned home in the evening.
