Chapter 2: Welcome

We look at a dust shop that's open late at night. Inside is none other than 15 year old Ruby Rose. She wears black leather pants with a black leather vest and the infamous red cape with nearly 20 flintlocks in specialized holsters (Think of Meryl Stryfe from Trigun but more practical). Under the vest is a dark red shirt and on her feet are a pair of leather boots. "Man I wonder how aunt Elasandra is doing. She's always alone. Maybe me and master should visit."

Just then the door opens. "Do you have any idea how hard it is to find a dust shop open this late?" Ah yes. Roman Tourchwick. With his clean white suit and bowler hat. And how can we forget about that stupid- I mean amazing cane.

"Just take the money and leave." Says the shop keep fearfully.

"No no no. We're not here for your money." He says. His smile turns into a serious face. "Grab the dust." His henchmen go to collect the dust but one stops and sees our young protagonist.

Ruby POV

"Put your hands up." says someone behind me.

"Huh?" I say turning around. "You say something?"

"I said put your hands up!"

"Are. Are you robbing me?"

"YES!"

"Ah." I nod. I spin and kick him in the chest throwing him out of the aisle. Another comes to check it out and I drop kick him out the window. As I stand up I take out my Kopis and a flintlock.

"Okay..." Roman says. "Get her." The other three come out but I shoot one in the chest and sprint at the middle one. When I reach him I do a diagonal slash from left to right going up and spin throwing a knife at the last one who dodges. I speed to him before he can recover and slam my hilt into his gut causing him to double over. I then flip him over and slam my foot into his face. "Worth every penny. You truly were." Roman looks at me. "Well Red I think we can both say today was a very eventful day, but this is where we part ways." He aims his cane at me and the bottom flips up. He fires a dust round at me forcing me to dodge.

I look around and see him going up a ladder. I look at the shop keep. "You fine if I go after him?" He nods and I take off. When I reach the roof I see Roman getting in a bullhead. I sheath my sword and take out two more flintlocks. I fire at him but he goes to the cockpit. A woman in a red dress stands where Roman once was and I take out two more flintlocks only for the shots to ricochet off her hand. I then notice the glyph under my feet and feel something tug me back. I look up expecting to see my master but instead found a woman with blond hair and green eyes. I focus back up and take out my flintlock hand mortar. I fire at the woman who expects it to be just a bigger round. It's not. The round explodes and sends her to the other side of the bullhead. The blond haired woman then creates shards of some kind and sends them at the bullhead which hightails it out of there. I sigh and pick up my expended flintlocks. As I'm about to leave, I see the woman glaring at me. "I'm in trouble aren't I?"

"jennu. taken ekess vi cuaili ios sia laraeki ini vi strict huntress. plisoic gethrisjir ekess svent ve. (Great. Taken to a room without my weapons by a strict huntress. Masters going to kill me.)" I sigh. Master you there?

What do you want Ruby. Responds Faebith (Yes Ruby knows her real name. Training someone for years will allow that.)

I'm in a bit of a jam right now.

What. Do. You. MEAN!

Oh boy I was right. I sigh. The dust store I went to was getting robbed. I stopped it. Strict Huntress took me away. Hey best to be honest in these situations.

-Sigh- If they ask-

Yeah yeah. Pull the vial out and open it. I know the routine.

You wouldn't have to if you kept your nose clean.

Before I can answer the door opens and the woman from before steps in along with a man with silver hair, Brown eyes, wearing a green vest, and carrying a plate of cookies. He sets the cookies down in front of me and sits down. "Ruby Rose. You've been missing for quiet some time. Your father and sister have been looking for you."

"probably ekess clax ve spical ekess batobot platohol astahii relgr okarthel. (Probably to take me back to that prison they call home.)" I say under my breath. Although it looks like they both heard me.

"I don't believe I know that language. What exactly it is called?"

Master-

I've been listening. Just be honest.

"It's Draconic."

"Draconic?" He asks.

"Yes. The language of Dragons."

"I see. And where did you learn it."

"My master taught me. She also taught me everything I know about fighting along with some others."

"I see. And who exactly is your master?"

"Get the metal vial that you took and you can meet her." I say smiling. He nods to the woman and she leaves the room. I look at the cookies. "These weren't made by a druid were they?" He just raises his eyebrow.

"I don't believe so."

"Good." I say as I dig in. The woman returns with the vile and hands it over. I open it and dump the red liquid onto the floor.

"What do you think your-" Yells the woman before the red liquid forms a ring in the air. The portal opens and in steps a woman with long white hair, burning yellow eyes, and dressed in a black leather vest, black boots, leather pants, and a strange skin tight suit under all of it. Her left arm no longer flesh but a sleek robotic looking arm with sharp claws for fingers. The other two in the room looked shocked at this.

"What have I told you about going overboard you idiot." Faebith says as she slaps my head. She then looks up with a blank look in her eyes. "I'm sorry for any damages she may have caused."

"Why do you look like you've done this too much." Asks the silver haired man.

"You'd be surprised."

"Well thankfully that's not what this is about."

"Really?" She says looking shocked.

"No. I was wondering who taught her how to fight."

"Oh that. Yeah I know plenty of people who helped out."

"I see. Well then. Do you know who I am?"

I look up and nod. "You're professor Ozpin of Beacon academy."

"I see. And you want to join my school?"

"Of course. It's the best school there is."

"Hmmm. Alright then."

Me and my master look shocked for a moment. I look up to her. "tira batobot filki nafl shinalt? (Did that just really happen?)"

"si siofme zyak. shar kii tir shio nomeno? (I think so. But why do all this?)"

I just shrug and look back at Ozpin. "Sooo. Does this mean I'm free to go?"

He chuckles. "Yes miss Rose. You are free to go." I just nod and stand up. I leave the room with Faebith and grab my gear.

"batobot sthyr ui odd. (That man is odd.)"

"visp ve zahae coi. (Tell me about it.)" says Faebith with a chuckle.

The next day I hop on the airship to Beacon and sit in the corner away from everyone else. I decide to practice with my witch doctor gifts and make a small fireball. The fireball was around the size of a baseball and I had to really focus to keep the shape. But then the worst thing to ever happen happened.

"Ruby? Is that you?" I look up and lose concentration causing the fire ball to explode in my hand. Thankfully I'm use to burns by now but still it can hurt the pride. "Oh god! Are you okay?"

"I'm fine. Now leave me be Yang." I take a look at Yang and noticed her outfit. She was wearing a tan jacket that bares her midriff, with golden brown piping and short, puffy sleeves with black cuffs that feature two gold buttons. Underneath this, she wears a low cut yellow crop top with her emblem on the left breast in black. She's also wearing Black short shorts with a brown half skirt. "What are you even doing wearing that? You trying to pick people up or fight them? Just pick one." I go to make another fireball but she grabs my hand.

"What happened to you? Me and dad have been looking everywhere for you?"

I sneer. "Why? To lock me in the house like a prisoner? Or will I finally be moved to the cellar with a chain on my ankle?"

Yang looked appalled at that. "NO. Why would you even think that?"

"Please Yang. Dad denied me training or even allowing me to go to any class that involved anything dangerous. I just wanted to be like mom. A huntress but he wouldn't even allow it!" I pull my hand away. "Now leave me alone." I walk to the other side of the cabin and form another fireball. Faebith's words echoing in my mind.

Flashback

"Alright Ruby. First thing about fire. It's uncontrollable. You can only guide it." Faebith makes a green fireball. "I only guide it to my hand and let it sit there. I don't force it. If you do that it will fight back."

"What do you mean fight back?" she motions for me to make one. I focus as hard as I can and get a fireball to form but it blows up in my face.

"Sigh. And this is why I got you blessed before this. Try again but don't force it. Just let it come naturally." I try again and this time it doesn't blow up. "Good. Good. Now the next step. Throw it. Just like a baseball." I go to throw it and it goes and explodes right before it leaves my hand. "Imagine where the fire's going. Encourage it to go toward the target. That's the only way you will get this to work." I try again and this time it goes a few feet... Before blowing up. "Sigh. This is gonna take a while."

Flashback end

I make another fireball and toss it between my hands until I hear we'll be landing shortly. As we land I get up and move outside the doors as a wave of people exit. I look around and I'm shocked at how large Beacon is. Normally schools are one giant building with multiple rooms but this place was several. I'm so busy with my thoughts that I almost didn't see the luggage cart I nearly missed. Wait. Luggage cart?

"Watch where you're going you imbecile!" I turn to see a girl around my height with white hair in an offset ponytail and blue eyes with a scar going down the left side of her face. "Do you know what you could have done?!" She picks up a vial of Red dust and starts shaking it around. I notice however that the lid is loose so she's just spreading dust around like crazy. "This is dust. You know the stuff that makes all of remnant run. You could have-"

I grab her wrist to stop her from shaking the vial any more. "Blown us up? No. I believe that would have been you." I take the vial and tighten the cork. "The top was loose so you were shaking dust everywhere. One sneeze and BOOM! We're gone."

"Do you have any Idea who I am? I'm-"

"Weiss Schnee. Heiress to the Schnee Dust Company." says a new voice. I look to see a girl with black hair and amber eyes and a bow on top of her head. She was reading a book as she walked up to us. Pretty good at multitasking if you ask me.

"Finally some recognition."

"The same company known for it's faunus slavery and backhanded business deals." I chuckle at that. If this is how she is on the daily I could get use to her.

Weiss however has had enough of this. "I don't have to take this!" She says as she stomps her foot. She takes the vial from my hand and storms off. I look over to the other girl as she starts to leave.

I shrug and start to make my way to the auditorium.

When I get there it's packed. "Ruby!" Yells a voice. I look and see Yang waving. "I saved you a spot!" She points next to her and I roll my eyes. Instead of going over I lean against the wall in the back. I see her frown but I don't care. Soon Ozpin steps on stage.

"I'll keep this brief. You have traveled here today in search of knowledge. To hone your craft and acquire new skills. And when you have finished, you plan to dedicate your life to the protection of the people. But I look amongst you and all I see is wasted energy. In need of purpose. Direction. You assume knowledge will free you of this. But your time at this school will prove that knowledge can only carry you so far. It is up to you to take the first step." Ozpin steps off stage and I see doubt in a lot of eyes. I smile.

They all probably thought it was gonna be easy. Thankfully Faebith taught me not everything is as easy as it seems.

"You will all sleep in the ballroom tonight." States Ms. Goodwitch. I hop off the wall and start to look around a bit more. After all there's still plenty of daylight.

Hey Faebith?

What do you want? Comes a irritated reply.

Do you think I could get a few more rounds for the hand mortar?

What happened to the other 30?

Target practice?

Stop wasting them. They are not cheap.

I scoff. Like you don't have the gold for it.

Yeah. But the thing is. IT'S MY GOLD! Figure it out yourself.

I sigh. Maybe I can find someone in town later to make some more. Ah well. Thoughts for tomorrow. I explore the campus until it's dark out and then head into the ball room. It was packed with girls on one side and boys on the other. I shake my head. What? Too afraid to sleep next to each other? Just keep a knife or something under your pillow you pansy's. I head over to a corner but stop as I see the girl with amber eyes and the bow. She was reading a book. "Hey there." She looks up. "Thanks for earlier. I never got your name."

"Blake." She says as she goes back to reading her book.

"What's it about?"

She looks back up a bit confused. "What?"

"Your book. What's it about?"

"It's about a man with two souls. Both fighting for dominance."

"That sounds interesting. Mind if I borrow it after? I'll even trade you for this." I say as I take out the first volume of 'The Wolf Queen' and hold it out to her. She takes the book and looks at it a little.

"This doesn't have any kind of summery of it anywhere."

"Yeah sorry. Where I got it they don't really do that. The book is a tale of Queen Potema, who became famous as being a powerful necromancer responsible for the start of the War of the Red Diamond. It has 8 volumes but if you don't like it you can just give it back."

She looks at it and smiles. "Thanks um..."

"Ruby. Ruby Rose." I say holding out my hand.

She shakes it. "Well thank you Ruby. It sounds pretty interesting. I'll give you this book when I'm done."

"No need to rush. Just tell me if you want the next volume of that series."

"I will. Now I think we should probably get some sleep." I nod and start to head toward the corner again. I sit down and lean against the wall. I put my swords next to me and sigh. I hope tomorrow is better than the beginning of today. With that thought I close my eyes and pass out.

So not gonna lie. I got like six chapters written for this. It doesn't come as easily due to the fact I'm using characters from me and my friend's DND Sessions. And they always get weirder. Sometimes I need his help for descriptions. but this one will be slow going after chapter 6 so sorry for that. I do have the ending planned out but not the rest. Anyways. Until next time. Stack out.
