Chapter 5: New language and troubled horizons
It was the end of classes Friday and me and the rest of the team just got to our room. When I open the door I stare wide eyed. Blake was up and looking around confused. I smile and call out to her. "Hey. Sleeping beauty awakens."
She glares at me. "batobot ui ti diwhafup." (That is not funny.)
I smile. "bensvelk ekess ocuir coi tawurada. si ornla tepoha dartaka ekess relgr faebith ekess tor ekess revive wux." (Good to see it worked. I would have hated to call Faebith to ask to revive you.)
"wux jatil si tiliw tepoha loreata?!" (You mean I could have died?!) She yells.
"yup. shar ihk jaka. xoal siofmeir di renthisjir persvek English." (Yup. But for now. Try thinking of speaking in English.)
She looks confused at that. "svabol re wux ukrisir zahae? si mi renthisjir English." (What are you talking about? I am speaking English.)
I shake my head. "wux re renthisjir Vs'shtak." (You are speaking Draconic.)
She looks surprised at that. I see her concentrate as the rest of the team files in with confused looks. After a while she speaks up. "Am I speaking English now?"
"There you go Blake. Just remember to think of the language you want before you speak."
She nods but then glares at me. "Why didn't you warn me that I might die?"
"One. You never asked. Two. You looked like you really wanted to learn and who am I to say no to that. Three. Even if you die Faebith can bring you back."
I see Yang roll her eyes. "How many times do I have to tell you Ruby. No one can come back from the dead. It's a rule of life."
"Yang. Let's not get into this."
"No! You think the rules don't apply when it comes to that woman!"
"She is a goddess."
"It doesn't matter what she thinks she is! No one can come back from the grave!" She yells with eyes turning red. "What? Did she promise to bring mom back or something?"
I raise my eyebrow. "No. She brought me back."
"You really expect me to believe that?"
I throw my arms up. "Believe what you want Yang. Talking to you is like trying to talk to an abomination of Loki. It's impossible." I turn back to Blake. "Now how about we take a shower and get you some food. We can get something in town."
Just then, Blake's stomach growls. She blushes. "Sure that sounds great. You want first shower?"
I shake my head and put my hands up in a placating motion. "No offense Blake but I think you need the shower most." She takes a quick sniff of her arm and recoils. She nods and runs to the bathroom. I chuckle and turn to my bag. I bring mom's skull to the top of the bag and all of a sudden hear Yang get off her bed. I spin around defensively. "What are you doing?"
"I believe that's my line." She said while still glaring. "What do you grab from your bag after classes? It can't be that important."
"Nothing for you to see Yang. Now back. Off." I say with a hint of danger in my voice.
She must have heard it because she was taken aback. She quickly shakes her head and moves forward. "No! No more secrets Ruby. Show me what that is or I swear I will take it by force."
I glare harder. "Don't. You. Dare." She doesn't seem phased by that and lunges at me. Due to the fact I was in a corner, I lash out with my leg. It hits her in her knee and forces her down to her own uninjured knee. Before Either of us can move a Glyph appears under each of us.
"That's enough!" Yells Weiss. She walks over to me and grabs the skull from behind my back. "Like Yang said Ruby. There shouldn't be any secrets between-" She stops as she see's what she grabbed. Her concentration falters as the glyphs are released. I see her eyes go wide. "AAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH!" She screams and throws the skull in the air. I dive and catch it before it hits the ground. "WHY THE HELL IS THERE A SKULL IN YOUR BAG?!"
"It was a gift." I say simply as I stand up.
"WHY DO YOU EVEN HAVE IT?! WHO'S IS IT?!" Yells Yang, also disturbed.
"Aww. What's wrong Yang?" I say with a coy smile. "Don't recognize her?"
"WHAT IS THAT SUPPOSE TO MEAN?!"
I sigh. "It's mom." The room goes silent.
"You dug up your own mother's grave?" ask Weiss in disbelief.
"No!" she sighs in relief. "Faebith did."
"THAT'S NO BETTER!" Shouts Yang.
"Can you please not yell Yang. Seriously. Eventually Ms. Goodwitch is going to come and investigate."
"MAYBE SHE SHOULD! FAEBITH LITTERALLY DUG UP MOM AND GAVE YOU HER HEAD AS SOME... SOME... FUCKED UP GIFT!?"
"No she gave it to me so I could talk to her. It's one of the perks of being a Witchdoctor. I speak undead."
"THAT'S NOT A LANGUAGE!"
"Actually it is." Comes a voice from the door. I look over and see Faebith standing there, arms crossed. "There are many languages that your realm doesn't know."
"YOU!" Yang yells while pointing a finger at me. "YOU DUG UP OUR MOM'S GRAVE?!"
"Yeeeah?" she responds confused. "I had to talk to her since she didn't take my advice BEFORE she died. And Ruby's right. Stop yelling."
"NO! THIS IS COMPLETELY MESSED UP! WHO DIGS UP PEOPLE'S GRAVES AND-" Suddenly a snap is heard and Yang goes quiet. I look over and her lips are moving but no sound is coming out. She apparently realized this too and started freaking out.
"Everyone on campus can hear you. It doesn't help that I can hear through most my portals and my champion."
"What did you do to her?" asks Weiss a little impressed but still giving weary glances at the skull.
"Silencing spell. She can yell all she wants but it won't be heard." Faebith looks to me. "Summer alright?"
"Yeah." I say as I hold up the skull a little. "I caught her before she hit the floor."
"Good." We look back to Yang who looks like she lost her mind. "You know the longer you yell the longer the spell stays on right?" Yang looks angered but finally stops trying to yell. "As for the claim of reviving Summer... I never really got a chance to ask her if she wanted to come back."
I look surprised. "Wait. You could bring her back?" Yang has a skeptical look on her face and Faebith just shrugs.
"Like I said. It got busy. All honesty we could do it right away if I had the materials. Wait!" Faebith opens a portal and looks into it. "I should have everything I need thanks to the gold dragons."
I get excited and bring up the skull. Calling to my mother's spirit. "(Mom you there?)"
"(Yes Ruby I'm here. How was school?)" says my mother.
"(Pretty good but I just learned that Faebith could bring you back.)"
"(You can do that?)" she asks Faebith.
"(Yeah. It's pretty simple. Of course you might feel a bit sore for a few days but you'll be back up and about. What do you say?)"
"What are you guys even saying?" asks Weiss.
I look over and she looks extremely confused. "That's right. Sorry. We're speaking undead."
"All you were doing is slurring and grunting."
"That's undead for ya." I chuckle. "But we are asking my mom if she wants to be revived."
"Actually." speaks Faebith. "She agreed. We can do it now but lets wait for Blake."
"I'm right here." comes Blake's voice next to Faebith.
Faebith jumps back and has fire in her hand in a second flat. After everything processes for her, she dismisses the fire and coughs into her hand. "How long were you there?"
"A little after Yang stopped yelling."
"Well that's embarrassing. Anyways." Faebith opens one of her vials and blood comes out. Weiss and Yang look disturbed but don't say anything. The blood makes a ring and soon a new area is in the middle. "Everyone in." I start for the portal but see the others not moving.
"You coming or are you all scared." I say a bit mockingly.
"I'm not afraid. Just..." Weiss starts but looks hesitant.
"Look if you don't believe in master's power then this is the only way to see it first hand." Everyone looks hesitant but reluctantly go in first. I follow and see we're in the hoard area of the blood realm. In front of us is a giant building with two elaborate doors. The building itself was blood red bricks with no windows. The others are looking around amazed and I chuckle. Faebith walks past me and over to a random person.
"Ruby? Where are we?" asks Weiss in amazment.
I turn around and open my arms with mom's skull in my right hand. "Welcome to the blood realm. Master's territory." I look over to Yang only to see her trying to say something but is still silent. "Master." I look over to Faebith. "You mind taking off the silencing spell."
Without turning around Faebith spoke. "If she starts to yell again, I'll feed her to one of the dragons." She turns to Yang. "I mean that." Yang gulps but nods. Faebith snaps her fingers.
Yang gives a few testing words, then turns to me. "Why are we here?"
"To revive mom of course."
"But... How?" Before I can answer the doors open and everyone's mouths go wide. Behind the doors was a pile of gold and jewels going up past where the doors even go up. "What the hell is that?!"
"That's just master's hoard." I say nonchalantly.
"Just how much is in there?" asks Weiss, amazed someone is more rich than her family.
"Well the building has to keep getting bigger and bigger. We can't go up anymore so we got a pulley system that goes further into the ground. Right now it's twenty stories high and I believe over a hundred stories deep. It's a perfect circle with a diameter of a hundred and fifty meters." I lower my voice a bit. "We're actually expanding it right now as well." Just then a dragon walks by. "Hey Jrgintarth!" He looks over scowling then goes back to walking.
"Rude much." states Yang.
"Nah. He's just mad. All the dragons here are mad."
Yang turns to me shocked. "He's a dragon?"
"Yup. All dragons can transform into a human form. As for why he's mad. Well..."
"Please don't tell me you did something?" asks Weiss a bit fearful of the answer.
"No. Well not me. You see... Master sometimes goes to the gold dragons and steals there city."
"She ransacks the city?!"
"No!" Weiss lets out a breath of relief. "She takes the entire city."
"What?!" everyone yells. They look closely at the pile and realized that there's a building in the middle.
"Yup. All the dragons here are dragons that have tried to kill master."
"She enslaved them?!" asks Weiss incredulously.
"Well they died, she revived them under a contract and now they guard the gold she stole from them."
Yang looks down. "That's just cruel."
"There fault for losing." Just then Faebith comes back with a huge diamond and a vial with a cross on it.
"Alright." She starts. "Where's Summer?" I hold her up and Faebith takes her. She places her on the ground and puts a large diamond next to her. The diamond vanishes and soon we see the skull float. Out of the bottom comes a spine that continues to create a whole skeleton. Muscle starts to form on the skull and all down the skeleton to make a female form. Skin starts to form and hair starts to sprout from the head. Soon a woman with long black hair and red tips is standing in front of us. Her eyes open to show silver pools full of life. Before anything else can happen a cloak is thrown to her. "Not that I don't mind the view but I doubt you want your daughters to see you naked."
The woman looks down and gives out a short 'eep' before covering up with the cloak. "Why am I naked?!" Summer yells.
"Well usually people have clothes with them but since you were just a skull." Faebith gestures to her. "No clothes."
I step forward. "Mom?"
She looks over and smiles. "Hello my little Rose." I run over and hug her as hard as I can.
"I'm so glad Faebith could bring you back."
"This is impossible." I hear behind me. Everyone else is staring in shock at what just happened. "This defies all laws of life. Laws of the WORLD!" Weiss states shocked.
"Well I'm not from your world soo..." says Faebith.
"Once your dead your suppose to stay dead! That's how it goes!" Weiss looks close to having a panic attack and Faebith moves over to her.
"Okay. Weiss. I need you to breath, alright? Just slow deep breaths."
"I can't believe it." states Yang. "She actually brought her back from the dead."
"Yes Blondie. I did."
"Just who are you?" Yang asks with fear.
"Faebith. Goddess of Blood and chaos. Ruler of the bloodrelm. At your service."
"You weren't lying about that?" asks Blake confused.
"Why would I lie about my title." she turns to Summer. "Just so you know. You may feel a bit stiff after all the years."
"That's perfectly fine Faebith. Just one thing." Faebith tilts her head. "Do you have any actual clothes?"
Faebith sighs. "I'll let you borrow something but it's your own duty to get clothes after." She leaves and Summer turn back to me.
"I'm so glad I get to hold you in my arms little rose." she turns to Yang. "As for you Yang. I heard about what your father did. Especially how you didn't help your sister through it."
"Well... I mean... How was I suppose to..." She stammers but soon gives up and hangs her head.
"I'm not mad. Just disappointed. Your father probably looks at Ruby and saw me. He didn't want to lose the last thing that he had connected to me and now he's paying the price."
Faebith comes back with some clothes and hands them to summer. "This batch is free but you have to get your own after this. I'll even be generous." She hands Summer 5 gold coins. "Trade these in and you can get a good amount of cash."
"Thank you Faebith."
"Just don't expect me to do any favors for free from now on alright?"
"Of course." Summer walks away to go change and Faebith looks at us.
"So you believe me now?" Yang and Weiss nod numbly. "Good. Now off you go." A portal is made behind them.
"What about my mom?" I ask.
"I'll send her after. Can't have her try and sneak more gold or jewels."
"You really think she would do that?" I ask with a disbelieving look.
"You never know. Now go!" She says ushering me into the portal.
Once out of the portal I take a deep breath. "I hope you understand now." I look at Weiss. "I've been through harsher training than most." I look at Yang. "I don't lie when it comes to my exploits." I look at Blake last. "And I learned everything from Faebith and her friends. Now. How about we go into town to grab that bite." We all agree and head out to catch the next flight to Vale.
Faebith POV
I enter into the bottom of the tower that Ozpin uses for his office with Summer next to me. "What is with people and choosing odd locations for offices?"
"Don't you live in a dimension of blood?" asks Summer with a raised brow.
"Touché." We enter the elevator and I use the scroll I got to get to the top floor. "So what do you think Ozpin and Glynda's reactions are gonna be?"
"Stunned. It's not everyday someone comes back from the dead."
"I think they're gonna look like they've seen a ghost."
"That may be true since I was dead." She puts the hood of the cloak up to cover her face.
The elevator dings and the doors open. Glynda notices us and keeps staring at Summer as if trying to figure out who she is. We walk in and Ozpin looks up. "What can I help you with ms... I'm sorry I don't think we've properly introduced ourselves to one another."
"We really didn't did we. My name is Darastrix." says Faebith. Summer looks at me with a raised eyebrow but I ignore it. "And of course I already know both of your names. So how about we cut the formalities."
"As you wish Darastrix. What can I do for you today?"
"Well first. I believe I have someone who could help with teaching a bit here. Though his methods are a bit unorthodox."
"I see. I would have to meet them first but I wouldn't mind the help."
"Good. The second thing is actually something to help you and Glynda out." He raises his eyebrow but otherwise remains expressionless. "I'd like to introduced you to someone I just brought back." Summer takes that as her cue. She drops the hood and smiles. The reactions. Priceless. Ozpin's eyes go wide and his ever present coffee mug falls to the ground. Glynda looks no better and her scroll fell out of her hands as her hands went to cover her mouth. All in all. The 'seen a ghost look'.
"Summer?" asks Glynda in a small voice.
"It's nice to see you again Glynda. Hopefully you've learned to relax a bit since I've been gone."
"Darastrix! What is the meaning of this?!" asks Ozpin still shell shocked.
"Well. I was the one who tried to help Summer out before she died, but SOMEONE didn't take my advice." Summer scratches the back of her head muttering a quiet sorry. "So I brought her back a few hours ago."
"How?" asks Glynda with disbelief.
"A diamond and magic. The realm I come from allows a lot to happen. This is just the tip of the iceberg." Glynda nods dumbly and I see Ozpin take a few calming breaths.
'This could help in the war against Salem.' Ozpin thought. Although being a telekinetic and telepathic, I heard it.
"Who's Salem?" I ask with a raised brow.
"How do you know of her?" Ozpin counters.
"Bud. I'm telekinetic and Telepathic. I heard you think it." He nods accepting the answer while trying to hide his thoughts. "And as for using the resurrection spell. No I won't use it to help anyone else."
"But why not? This is revolutionary!" exclaims Glynda.
"First. It take's diamonds worth at least a hundred and fifty gold. Second. This was something I've been meaning to do for a while but it became busy. And third. I'm not the type of person to do this for free and any kind of compensation is far, far, FAR beyond what you could afford."
"I see."
"Now about my friend that could help train."
"Yes. I would need to know a bit about him before I accept or decline." states Ozpin folding his hands together.
"Well like I said. His methods are a bit unorthodox but it helps." Before I can say anything else, the room gets colder. It gets so cold you can see your breath and my eyes go wide. "Oh no." I turn and see a figure coming out of the shadows.
"Now why would you say that about me?"
Well hope you enjoyed. Who was that at the end though? Anyways. Till next time. Stack out.
