From the distant windows of various 'empty' condos, a portion of the normally gloomy city looked as though a rock concert was taking place! Various vibrant colors were blossoming from the ground into the sky colored like gemstones from the diamond to rubies, amethyst! So many dreary days with that slash of pure black above them. Counting on the wisps of sun they could see and manufactured lights. Those colors brought so much light and life to the people who could see it.
So much so they began recording it, broadcasting to the world these lovely random colors coming from a mostly desolate Neo Domino. But no one was willing to approach the area to check. Not even though it was clear a duel was going on given 'those' particular dragons in the air!
"That's Stardust, Fudo's dragon, and Archfiend..." Malik pointed to the screen as the pair of dragons glided on air currents. Stardusts nature as a silvery dragon meant that they glowed with the color they were soaring through. But he couldn't mistake that food deprived beak nosed dragon if he tried!
"Meaning Black Rose and Izayoi are there as well and that adds up to a battle." Mokuba grumbled into the headset that carried his voice to Malik.
"We'll be there soon, Mokuba." Malik replied trying to reassure the kid as the anxiety continued to eat up the CEO. 87% Anxiety snack.

"Wow... That's amazing..." Crow whistled as he watched the battle from a small nook. He could see the others kinda, but what he could see 'easily' was the Fortune Ladies. Because he understood 'fortune'. Crank a wheel get a prediction, or shuffle the cards and let Carly ask her fairies. What he couldn't understand was a massive energy blast getting redirected into the air because of some 'bad luck'! Or slabs of stone just falling into place to give him this nice little nook being as some random 'good luck'.
The orange and brown Lady... he 'wanted' to think it was that Chee fairy grown up, fired a blast at one of the Truemen. One getting dangerously close to where Carly and the others were huddled at. Crow watched in a warped blend of fascination and horror as the figure melted from the blast curling as it did so in such a way like a wax figure...
Concrete exploded as several of Judai's own spirits materialized rushing towards Chee only for the green and purple ladies to close in as back up. Crow looked about, needing to get a lock on the humans in the fight. The spirits were out of his pay grade and he needed to reach the gang.
"Oh look a lost little bird," Jesse's voice stiffened Crow as his ears perked up at the voice over his head. He turned and looked up to find the black clad guy standing on top of his little, formerly safe, hiding spot. But it wasn't one of his spirits he was with, rather one of the heroes that served Judai.
"Well hi, any chance you escaped Yubel's control?" Crow asked, and watched as Jesse 'did' have a small start in surprise.
"You actual speak English? Properly?" Jesse asked, his eyes flickered with a moment of sincere curiosity.
"Sure, I was raised by an American nun," Crow answered a momentary hope that maybe a normal conversation could reach Jesse before anyone realized it was happening.
Yet as he was watching a gold clad Lady appeared behind Jesse and the others and suddenly they were bathed in the sunny gold light that poured from her staff. It had been so long since he had been in direct overhead sunlight that he soaked in the moment. A soothing warmth that spread and stayed unlike those few precious hours where they could see the sun.
Only the cloud that obscured his enjoyment of the sensation was a mixture of confusion as to why she would 'attack' like that. Using an ability that did nothing but warm the body, and a frightening realization that it 'was' an attack.
Jesse's eyes widen with shock as he reached for his chest, his fingers curling into claws as he began to curl in on himself. While the real Jesse was locked away, trapped within his own mind asleep. His body still had some awareness and ability to react to experiences. His chest began to grow numb or maybe it was a chill? Despite the fact he was wearing a leather vest and until now cold never penetrated it. One arm began to grow numb as well but it wasn't really bad, he just felt tired. That was right, Judai woke him up from a nap...
"Hey Jesse... you ok man?" Crow asked as the two spirits who had carried him turned around and charged after the golden... was that Hikari? Or En or... damn it! Jesse was beginning to snore as he toppled from the top of the little concrete nook. Limp though he was, Crow could see the guy's neck would very likely snap if he landed head first. He caught the guy and laid him out just to hear the guy still snoring.
'So is that a heart attack? Because that would be bad luck right? Having that, or what internal bleeding? But she's gold themed and the light felt good I don't see how she can be one of the negative fortunes?'
The Ladies had been mesmerizing to behold, flying in the air flitting to and fro and just making Yubel furious. Though somehow to Crow, they probably could never get as angry as Jack sounded when Carly arrived. He was actually snarling in outrage with whatever 'The KING' mentality he normally had gone to the four winds.
It took Yusei and Aki 'both' to settle him down, with Yusei repeating that this wasn't the same as the Earthbound Gods. That alone was enough to make Crow pause and the growing frustration over Jack's behavior settled down. Because Carly wasn't a Signer, if and everyone else made it sound like Carly was, and that meant she was a Dark Signer. But they only existed once a person died...
Why these Fairies now Ladies triggered Jack so strongly, Crow didn't know. While he did want to go and check on the others they were in the middle of a fight. Conversations wouldn't work over the duel disks either. Too impersonal, detached, as Jack may have seen himself as king, but he needed them to be there in his presence. 'Gotta punch the big guy back into his senses or just... Let Carly know this isn't her fault...'
That she died...
That Jack's first girlfriend must have been killed and he hadn't been there to protect her...
'Aww shit Jack. Big dumb lug, you got some strange luck to you don't you?'
Crow looked back at Jesse where he had been abandoned and the guy was snoring and something touched on the back of his mind... Well...
"Hey guys... Ok so that gold colored fairy lady woman hit us with her light. Jesse is here he fell asleep and he's snoring. I kinda remember that being a super bad thing but I don't remember exactly why."
Yusei internally flinched before he pressed his gloved fingers onto the button to reply. "Its possibly a sign of a major heart attack. Do you remember the medical treatment for that or should I give that information?"
"A heart attack?! SERIOUSLY! Shit! No? No, I got it but uhhh I'll talk it through to you so you can let me know if I forgot something?" Crow replied and the sound of scrambling and the red head calling Jesse could be heard.
While away Aki was holding Carly's hands to help settle the woman's trembling nerves.
"Its going to be fine Carly. The Ladies know their stuff," Aki repeated like a mantra.
"Somethings wrong though, my Fairies aren't malicious... Gold light is Hikari, she's a 'good' fate how can she give someone a heart attack?" Carly asked as her face twisted into this anguished expression. Behind her thick glasses her eyes begged Aki for answers even as she realized she was asking someone younger than her for a solution to her problem.
"It hit both of them," Zalinka pointed out as she watched their flank. "If I wanted to guess, its meant that Crow was 'super lucky' that Jesse didn't get the chance to do something horrible to him."
This gulping sob caused her to turn for a moment, just in time to see Carly throw off her glasses and shove her face into Aki's shoulder. Bawling she sobbed a counter mantra to Aki's about her Fairies turning cruel. Jack's face became, if possible more livid, as he glared at Aki with this unattainable expectation.
"Auntie these are your spirits, you're scared and letting them run wild. Maybe you just need to call them back to you, give them a proper direction!" Ryu offered as he snuggled up against her to try and comfort the woman with his presence. "They're doing this to protect you, maybe they just need to know that they don't have to be so harsh? At least with Captains Jesse and Judai..."
"Change their fate!" Witch suggested as she glided through the air and put herself between Jack's furious face and Carly's distraught one. "So Hikari just did something horrible to Jesse. Order the Ladies to change Jesse and Judai's fate. Come on Carly!" She gave a small fist pump. "Order your Ladies to give them the luck that sets them free! You can't limit yourself to only what humans can do anymore. You have to open your imagination to the abilities we Spirits can grant!"
Carly grew still as she heard those words, 'change their fate'? But... it was 'fate'... Her mind lurched over the idea that fate could be changed by a series of fairies or ladies...
"I know this may be hard right now," Yusei didn't turn around as he kept his eyes on the battles ahead of them. "But Jesse had a heart attack, if his fate isn't changed 'now' he will die. Crow is doing what he can but Jesse isn't responding. If nothing else try to call in Hikari and have her adjust what she did."
"But..." Carly began when Aki grabbed her by the shoulders and and squared the woman up to face her.
"No 'buts' Carly, we're in no position to handle a heart attack. We all know Jesse is being controlled, he doesn't deserve something like this. So scared or doubt push that aside, just believe in yourself. Give the orders, the game states these spirits are ours to command. Don't be afraid, they're here for you good or bad they won't turn on you!"
Carly couldn't really 'see' Aki, she rubbed at her eyes with her sleeve while her free hand began patting about for her glasses. Which Jack retrieved while forcing Witch to move out of the way as one would when a great oak decided to timber.
He waited until she pulled her arm away and slipped the glasses back on her face. Jack watched as the lights danced across the thick lens she had to wear and he found himself caught in how much she had struggled. It made him have to wonder, again, how many times had she pinned her hopes or faith on something only to have them dashed. How many times did she have to pick herself up and try again?
"You have this. 'I' believe in you." Jack stated in a commanding matter of fact manner even if he was still distraught that the fairies turned into Ladies. Even now, that they were able to cause a heart attack with their ability? If that punk died Carly would blame herself as the one 'in charge' of the Ladies despite issuing no true command to them.
Carly sniffled before she crawled next to Yusei and peeked up behind their sheltering wall. Her eyes scanned the bland gray concrete until she found the flickering, yet vivid flame of Crow's hair as he worked. From there she looked about for Hikari, pushing away the question if Hikari's ability to 'hear' only extended to her ears or was there more.
"Hikari!" She called out, her voice cracking with unshed tears and a faltering confidence. Amid the beautiful lights flitting about overhead, from Swee to En with Yubel becoming more wild with their attacks. Yet sunlight blossomed before her as Hikari appeared in an orb of light.
"Yes, Carly?" she asked sounding semi put out as she turned to keep an eye on the spirits she just ditched.
"I don't want you Ladies to be fatally brutal to Jesse or Judai. Its not their fault they're doing this! So unmake that fate you gave Jesse. Save him! Then if it can be done change the pairs fortune so they can break free from Yubel," Carly instructed. 'Though how can they just change the fortune of someone so they can escape mind control?' Carly found herself pondering even as Hikari nodded obediently though there was a frown on her face.
"Seriously? We get that its not their fault, and Yubel is totally to blame, but you know the things the pair of them have done. Freeing them won't be a mercy, the world will want their various forms of 'justice' over the matter. Sure you can say it was Yubel's doing. But we're spirits, we're not beings that can be just chained to your laws. Even if you have Ancient Fairy Dragons' agreement." Hikari pointed out.
"Just go and save Jesse we can discuss this after that, please Hikari I'm begging you!" Carly argued while Zalinka flinched at the plea.
While the spirit disappeared from them, reappearing in the distance where Crow was still feverishly working. "Carly, don't beg. She wasn't being defiant she just probably wanted you to be aware of what is awaiting them now. They'll want to protect you and if you don't grow a stiff spine they could bully you into well.." Zalinka slowed to a stop not sure how to actually 'say' what she was thinking. 'A door mouse', while true, was what she thought they needed her to evolve 'from' to emerge from their cocoons.
"It takes time," Ryu finally voiced judiciously, "it takes time to find an assertive voice that doesn't make subordinates cower with fear or slouch with disinterest. Father usually says that its not wise to run a company based on fear or by being too buddy buddy. Fear makes people look for ways to escape or remove the source of fear. Which means you can lose quality employees to rival headhunters. But going too friendly makes them not respect you. Not only will they be assume rules don't apply to them, they're likely to try and manipulate you to do their bidding. Because they don't think you will stand up for yourself or the company."
"Everyone!" Asuka's voice startled everyone as her voice danced over concrete and broken ground.
Zalinka readily waved as the others started appearing as they dashed over the broken slabs of concrete. Yusei glanced once over his shoulder before shaking his head in disbelief. The gravity of the situation was not lost on him, and he did recall that this was technically their fight to start with. But he couldn't shake the mentality of 'soft, cozy Neo Domino elite and thus not street fight ready' from his being. That they made it in one piece was reassuring, but no one really had any skill that could be applied here. They would be dependent on Aki's power and he had seen how crushed they got when their original spirits got killed.
'And what do they plan to contribute...' he thought to himself in dismay.
"Big Brother Yusei!"
Well clearly one thing they 'did' plan was how to send the twins first to keep Yusei from saying anything!
"Did you really have to let them all... did you really have to come yourselves?" He asked as he greeted both kids with a nod before holding up a hand.
"Yusei! He's breathing and not struggling anymore. What did you guys do to get her to come back and fix this?" Crow's urgent voice choked any comment the twins were going to make from emerging.
Instead they looked up at him with curious, even fearful, expectations as they waited. He would explain, he always did.
So they looked instead, since it was Crow's voice and, duh, he wasn't here. They could see him, when they stood on their toes and peered across the way. His vivid hair was the first thing they caught, and squinting showed a black clad... oh no...
"Big Brother I think someone is coming in fast towards big brother Crow, if he's with one its the other Captain..." Rua's words sent Yusei into high alert as he looked up in alarm.
"Crow! You're not alone, Judai is heading for you!" Yusei barked into the disk.
"Wouldn't surprise me all things considered, I'm out!" Crow called back and they could see as he deftly dropped down and began weaving among the ruins while his hair turned green as his head band was pulled down.
