"We need to think of what we're going to do with Judai. Its not going to be safe even with the card active when Yubel starts up again." Crow pointed out as he finally took a chance to step outside again. The air tasted horrible with all the dust. The hail and rain turning the broken chunks of concrete into sludge and thus out of the air quality. So no one was coating their lungs in cement or anything, but it did nothing for the taste. Every inhale, every word, allowed for the taste of concrete to enter noses and mouths thus twisting expressions into distaste.
'I don't like this...' Yusei thought as he looked around. Crow was right, while it was possible that Yubel got destroyed in the blast. It was also possible that they got out in time, and this landscape was too alien. Making him feel like he had been thrown on a moon like cityscape, with the ground just rolling mounds of mud. Ghost lights in the distance hovering in the air with the rare flash of lightning revealing obelisks in the far distance.
There was no place to have a battle, just rolling mounds with them against a pair of spirits that could literally hurl energy blasts at them. His fingers twitched in his thick work gloves at their vulnerable situation as sitting ducks. The sound wasn't helping either, without anything but the lone building behind them Crows' words actual felt quiet, hollow in a way that made it feel almost empty.
A ghost from the past.
Or a ghost warning of things to come.
"Sitting ducks." Ryo gripped as he stepped out, Asuka with her brother were the next to appear, Fubuki helping Kazu with Momoe. Spirit had come out and was quietly setting to work on Momoe, while Natasha did not look happy.
"No idea what that is, but I hate how quiet this is..." Natasha commented as she pulled Junko onto her back. "It wouldn't be bad if we were in a forest, if it gets quiet you know a threat is around but like... This just makes my tail itch." Once Junko was settled she began scraping the ground with her front right hoof. She wanted to prance in place, yet Junko needed some healing, and Junko had never made the woman wear a saddle like a mere horse. So prancing, and possibly causing Junko to slip off, was out of the question.
It was Superia, silent though she was, who began to give directions. She materialized along with the other spirits and began pointing in a direction then crossing her arms. Then she held her hands out in a way as though she was showing the size of something then for it to come to her.
"Does she expect us to play charades?" Jack grumbled out of frustration. "Bad people that way is easy, what's the other thing?"
Superia pointed to Aki before making the gestures again and all Aki could think of was...
"You want Witch of the Black Rose?"
The pleased expression drew their attention to the fact that Witch 'had' been missing for a while.
"Ok," Aki replied before willing her spirit to her side, and felt only the momentary resistance before her spirit appeared. "Witch where did you go?"
Lips twisting into an amused awkward smile, the Witch looked about and while Ryu and Zalinka hadn't fully left the tunnel yet... "Sooo guess who's dads are here for their kids? Two hints, ones super chill, like the most chilled relaxed happy dad ever. The other is uhhhh so you think we can get Ryu under that witness program thing? His dad looks fit to murder and you remember how 'he's' like when he's angry. Right Aki?"
"Mr. Ishtar and Mr. Kaiba?" Aki elaborated while Yusei just sighed.
"Two more noncombatants in a battle zone that has no cover. One of whom is the CEO to a company."
Yusei sounded so displeased. The others looked around again as they took in the reality and the absurdity of the situation.
"Couldn't you convince them to leave?" Yusei asked turning his attention onto the spirit.
"If they talked like normal people I would have tried. Its weird they were talking about God coming back. Zalinka's father was insisting that the deck is activating. And if it's activating God and his Circle are coming back, which really makes Mr. Kaiba angry and I find that weird. Because like, his older brother is the General right?"
"That's right, the God Set who protects the Sun God Ra on his voyages across the sky, the god of chaos and storms." Zalinka elaborated, then corrected, "at least that's the old tellings. The proper one is that Ryu's Uncle is God's General, the leader of his armies and stands at Gods' side."
"Only we know Yugi isn't battling anything anymore, he's just kind of lost on which timeline is his," Yusei amended earning a nod.
Ryu had explained the purpose of the deck, how it was meant to serve as a signal to bring Yugi home. Also all the times his father had tried and failed to get it to 'work'. Mostly because no one knew how the deck activating would appear. What with spirits being a normal manifestation around Yugi.
"Ok so he's gotten Superia and Bastest which are Isis and Rashids to appear. But no one else..." Yusei repeated slowly as he looked through each of the cards. There were typical dueling cards, he could easily read how they would slide in to form moves for attacking and defense. Card max was 60 with 40 the fewest cards one could have in their deck. The more the cards the harder to get the combos or anything one would need for a duel. But this deck had 53 cards, and those 53 didn't fit together unless one knew who they were related to.
"So I don't see these all being a 'Sacred Circle' though," Aki had noted as she leaned against Yusei's shoulder, her head against his. "The God Cards we know about and aren't they purely related to Yugi?"
"Yeah, there are two sacred circles or well one and a broken one," Zalinka explained as she put down her rice bowl for her cup of water. "You see the cards associated with the Harpy Sisters and those Armor pieces?" she sipped while the pair searched before nodding. "Those aren't Uncle Yugi's, they're Seto's. He accidentally created his own Sacred Circle of Three, the harpies and the armor are for Mai and Valon. Uncle Kaiba is the third member but he's here not there and has no card that represents him."
"How do you get all these cards to 'activate' though? The Field is limited to 10 at most," Carly asked as she nibbled on a bit of rice ball.
"God activates," Zalinka explained with this faint amused smile on her face. "See you remember the KaibaCorp Grand Prix? When Yugi stepped down as the King of Games? PR was that he wanted people to not get intimidated by him and lose heart or stop playing. Reality was because he's 'God' he's always warping reality around him. He knows what's in a deck after it shuffles and in what order it is and can cause the decks to reassign their own location without meaning to."
The room got quiet in surprise since the Grand Prix was well known in dueling circles, but the actual 'reason'?
"Father said that in an effort to ease Mai into the situation she was in, he had her search and pull out her three Harpy Sisters. Then told her to put it back into her deck wherever she wanted to. She did as he told her then he told her to find them again. Father said she had seen enough to not laugh but Mai had looked uncertain about if she was being tricked. She couldn't find her three harpy sisters, she 'did' however; find all three Blue Eyes White Dragons. Seto wasn't thrilled to be reminded that Yugi could over ride him and take the Blue Eyes from him at a whim."
"So Yugi can turn a card into whatever?" Yusei mused aloud.
"I'm thinking, that it means he can change a card to allow for others to share a space. After all Zalinka keeps calling it a 'sacred circle'. Perhaps if enough cards 'activate', a card will transform into a 'Sacred Circle' card and free up space? You have five for Yugi condense them down to a single card and you have space for the three more for Kaibas'." Asuka theorized from her seat tofu cube in her chopsticks.
But for all that no one could really figure out how the cards would 'activate'.
Until now...
"Zalinka, how often was Kaiba in a type of battle after Yugi and his Circle left?" Aki asked thoughtfully as ideas began growing out of the dark recesses of her mind. When the young Egyptian shook her head, brow furrowed in thought her suspicions grew. "He never fought a battle so he never needed them... Yugi's been showing up, he's been haunting the offices, appearing by sending those figurines to Carly. Even 'paying' Carly for them just to appear legitimate. He's been sending very clear 'I'm here call me' signs. All the while here the deck is activating for Ryu who doesn't 'need' to be taking part of this, he just 'wants' to help us."
"Need and want are two sides of the same coin," Kazu observed thoughtfully. "He doesn't need them, but Ryu 'wants' them. Only Yugi has been communicating since prior to Ryu's being born..."
'He has a point, there hasn't been a 'battle' of sorts save Zero Reverse and the EarthBound, both times... I'd have to ask about Zero Reverse but...' Yusei turned his attention his attention back to their surroundings. "We can think about that more later, right now we have to decide, should we try and get those two before Yubel. Or try to resume the battle to keep them occupied on us."
"This is our fight... I don't know how Yugi believes we can fight it," Ryo pointed out when Superia flew to him, her expression warm as she cupped her mouth with her hands and made a gesture of calling to the heavens.
"Call Yugi?" Fubuki asked growing incredulous. "That's the plan? Get us to call Yugi back?" She nodded her head wings flexing a bit in pleasure as the disbelief wavered in the young man. After all there 'were' spirits manifesting...
"If we could get Ryu to call back Yugi and his group we wouldn't be alone..." Momoe noted as Spirit snugged in her arms.
Junko eyed Black Luster Soldier thoughtfully, "can we do it? Can we make a miracle happen?" Behind the Soldier was the Momentum building, standing whole surrounded by the gray sludge of pulverized concrete. Housed inside the building was a machine with the power to tear land apart, create new land masses and wipe out humanity. Yet they were still stubbornly holding on to the machine for all the dangers it represented for the sake of free energy. For all the devastation from the battle, it might as well been an average work week. 'Pray for others and Kaiba would answer'.
They had, and the battle had been contained while still showing just how much damage had been done...
"This could have been all of Neo Domino, this could have been 'Japan' if we hadn't listened, but if the Elder Kaiba can protect us to this extent where ever he is... We just need to believe..."
"It sounds so stupid, but you have a point," Jack rumbled. Carly was out there somewhere, looking after Jesse. If Momentum had gotten damaged and gone off like Zero Reverse...
"You have the greater numbers, but the deck has the Cyber Harpy Lady and her sisters, and the armor..." Ryo began, "Between her and her sisters and Crows own deck we could get enough eyes in the sky..."
"I can put some lights in the sky for those with poor night vision," Witch offered before manifesting a small purple flame in the air.
"How does a plant themed witch play with fire?" Fubuki teased and regret was reintroduced him quickly.
"Like this!" With that Witch put a flame right up against his butt, the sudden intense heat getting the guy to yelp in alarm and start running.
"The Harpies would know Ishtar and Kaiba, so we should send them to look for the men, the crows know about Yubel and have seen them and Trueman..."
"HOTHOTHOT!" Fubuki ran past Yusei and Aki hands patting feverishly at his rear.
"Agreed, and... should I go check on Stardust and Red Eyes? He sounded upset when he got here." Aki asked.
"No, see if there's portals here, while its quiet I want to send the twins to the Duel Spirit world while we have a chance. If Ryu can 'help' from there, him and Zalinka as well." Yusei countered which earned him a negative shake of Aki's head.
"The twins I agree, but Zalinka and Ryu are a part of this, even if Kaiba isn't thrilled by it. Yusei, don't shake your head at me. Mokuba was a child when they left, we both know how childhoods can affect adulthood. He can't get the deck to activate, but his son can. He's carrying a wound that needs to be healed. Its not going to be healed if he only engages if Ryu's in danger and we keep Ryu from the battlefield!"
While off close by, Cyber Tutu stood peeking over Natasha's hindquarters. "God I wish they would just kiss. Like if there was just a wall and they push the other up..."
Asuka's expression flatlined as she shot a murderous glare at Cyber Tutu. "You traitor!"
Cyber Tutu looked hurt for all of a second before she went on the offensive. "'Traitor'?! What? Like you haven't wanted to see them up against the wall ravishing each other in a fit of heated pas-sion..." Suddenly her eyes turned into slits as she watched Asuka's cheeks starting to flare up red.
"Or maybe you wish it was you?"
DING DING! Asuka's face went full red while Ryo turned his head began looking at this conversation going on behind him.
"Aki's not going to like you thinking about Yusei like that..." Tutu began when the color began draining from Asuka's face.
But because her back was to Ryo all he heard was squeaks that 'might' have been Morse Code.
"No, no." Natasha's stub tail lifted up and began wagging left and right sending her tails' hair swaying. "She wants 'Judai' to put her against a wall and..."
"Do you even 'like' girls in that way?" Junko asked Judai almost in whimsy.
To his credit as someone currently under mind control, Judai 'did' look taken aback from the moment the words 'Judai to put her against a wall' came up. "In what ways?" He paused as his gaze flickered between 'Judai' and 'Mind Controlled Judai'. "Friends?"
"Oh that explains everything. Now we know what you and Jesse were doing..." Cyber Tutu began when Ryo just had to take over.
"That is enough!" The Emperor ordered and stared down everyone until they showed no further signs of resuming the conversation. While also catching Asuka who had fainted, thank you Cyber Tutu!
Above them a roar of a dragon cut through the darkness.
"GET DOWN!" Ruka called out, her young voice trampled under the roar but not her Mark.
A devil and fairy, both with dice sprang up into the air and in desperation tossed their dice!
Everyone dropped down, even Natasha got down on all fours, while the Mark of the Crimson Dragon pulled the Dragons to focus on her and get down as well.
A blazing beam of white Light tore the sky above them only to shatter against the completely normal walls of the Momentum structure. Yet corrupted or not, it was light that illuminated the darkness, briefly showing a small orange dragon flying towards them. Small in frame but determined in wing beats the dragon kept hurrying towards them.
"Oh yay! Good roll..." The fairy fluttered to the ground, draped over her dice while her devil counterpart just plummeted to the ground like a rock.
"Where is our thanks? You wanted that blast to be on target?!" Devil barked out as he laid out on his dice and stared up into the sky.
"Thank you Devil Dice."
Jack and Crow were already scanning the source of the blast, even as part of them reflected how impossible that was going to be.
"I'll thank you if you can reverse whatever negative fate hit our rides." Jack called out, his eyes scouring the landscape for BlackBird or the other two D-Wheels. Wheel Of Fortunes' white paint job made it damn near invisible in this landscape... but he couldn't see anything...
"My bird..." Crow whimpered.
"Its buried. Where's 'MY' gratitude you ingrate?" Black Rose growled as she lifted her head up and stared nose to all of Jack.
