Bell test

The morning sun cast long shadows over Training Ground Three, where Team 7 awaited their sensei for the bell test. Naruto was brimming with confidence, not only because of his excitement for the test but also because he was sporting a new look. He wore Hana's hand-me-downs—a beige shirt that fit snugly, paired with a black skirt over a pair of pantyhose. The finishing touch was a pair of kunoichi-style heels that Hana had assured him would help improve his balance and reflexes. Beside him, Koma the fox sat alert, his sharp eyes watching the clearing as they waited for Kakashi to appear.

Sasuke and Sakura barely reacted to Naruto's new attire. Over the past few weeks, Naruto's choice of clothes had become part of his routine, and they had gotten used to his preference for his unique style, especially considering his friendship with Hana. Sakura raised an eyebrow but said nothing, while Sasuke gave a disinterested shrug. Naruto was Naruto, and they'd long since decided not to question it.

At last, Kakashi strolled into the clearing, his eye curving in an amused expression as he took in Naruto's outfit, noting Koma at his side. "Good morning, Team 7," he greeted. "Looks like you brought a little friend with you, Naruto."

Naruto grinned, scratching Koma behind the ears. "Yeah, Koma's here for support! And trust me, we're ready for anything!"

Kakashi gave a slight nod. "Alright, today's test is simple," he explained, holding up two small silver bells. "All you have to do is take these bells from me. But there are only two, so one of you will be left tied to the post."

The three genin nodded, but Naruto was already feeling a surge of adrenaline. He glanced at the bells, determined to get one for himself—and maybe even for Koma if possible.

"You have until noon to take them from me," Kakashi continued, stifling a yawn. "And remember, come at me with the intent to kill."

Before Kakashi even finished speaking, Naruto bolted forward, launching himself directly at him. He threw a flurry of punches and kicks, his new outfit not slowing him down in the slightest. Koma darted forward as well, trying to nip at Kakashi's ankles to distract him.

But Kakashi, with his usual ease, sidestepped Naruto's attacks, deflecting each one without breaking a sweat. Naruto's foot swung toward him in a powerful kick, but Kakashi caught it effortlessly, raising an eyebrow at the kunoichi heels. "Interesting choice of footwear, Naruto," he noted, his tone teasing.

"Doesn't matter—I'm still going to get that bell!" Naruto retorted, twisting in the air to free himself. He glanced to the side, expecting to see Sasuke and Sakura helping out, but instead, they were both hiding, waiting for an opportunity to strike on their own.

Kakashi sighed as he dodged another attack from Naruto. "You know, taking these bells won't be possible if you three don't work together."

Naruto huffed, frustrated but undeterred. *I can do this myself if they won't help,* he thought, leaping back to catch his breath. Koma barked, as if agreeing with him, and crouched low, ready to spring again.

While Naruto kept Kakashi busy with a continuous assault, Sasuke and Sakura tried their own strategies from afar, each hoping to get a bell without involving the others. Sasuke launched shuriken from the shadows, while Sakura attempted to create distractions using basic genjutsu.

Kakashi, however, easily evaded each of their attacks. Hours passed with each genin attempting to outmaneuver Kakashi individually, but no one came close to snatching the bells.

Finally, as noon drew near, Kakashi decided it was time to end the test. With a flicker of movement, he appeared behind Naruto, seizing him by the collar. Before Naruto could react, Kakashi had him tied to the training post, securely bound by rope.

"Hey! Let me go!" Naruto protested, squirming against the restraints.

Kakashi raised an eyebrow, looking at the three of them with mild disappointment. "You're all talented, but you missed the most important part of the test."

Sasuke and Sakura looked at each other, confused. "What do you mean?" Sakura asked.

Kakashi crossed his arms, his expression serious. "The point of this exercise was teamwork. None of you even considered working together, and because of that, no one got a bell." He turned to Naruto, who was still struggling against the post. "Naruto was the only one who tried repeatedly to engage, but without support, he couldn't stand a chance."

Sasuke scowled, clenching his fists in frustration. Sakura lowered her head, realizing she had been too focused on impressing Kakashi on her own.

"And so," Kakashi continued, "the punishment goes to Naruto, since he's the one tied up." He placed two lunch boxes on a nearby stump and turned to Sasuke and Sakura. "You two can eat. But don't give any food to Naruto—that's part of his punishment."

Naruto's stomach growled at the sight of the lunches, but he tried to keep his head held high. "It's fine. I can take it."

However, as Kakashi walked away, leaving them alone, Sasuke and Sakura exchanged a look. After a moment's hesitation, Sakura reached for her lunch, opening the box, then quietly handed a rice ball over to Naruto.

"Here," she murmured. "You kept trying. I guess… you deserve something."

Sasuke wordlessly handed Naruto a piece of his own lunch as well. Naruto's eyes widened in surprise, a grin breaking out on his face as he accepted the food.

Suddenly, Kakashi appeared beside them in a puff of smoke, his eye curving in approval. "You pass," he declared, startling them.

Naruto blinked in confusion. "Huh? But we didn't get the bells!"

"No," Kakashi agreed, "but you finally showed teamwork. Helping each other, even when the odds are against you—that's what being a ninja is about."

Naruto's face lit up, a mix of relief and pride washing over him. "So, we're officially Team 7?"

Kakashi nodded, the faintest smile visible beneath his mask. "Officially."

With that, Team 7 was formed, and Naruto's heart soared. He might not have gotten the bell, but he had gotten something even better: a team who had finally begun to understand what it meant to work together, strange clothes and all.
