POV of Parvati Patil
While examining my arm, Madam Pomfrey shook her head and expressed outrage at the teachers' 'irresponsibility' for allowing first-years to participate in such a 'dangerous' game. According to her, I had been very lucky. My arm was indeed broken, but she said the bones could be easily mended. She performed the spell immediately, but after applying a bandage, she insisted that I stay in the hospital wing overnight. I tried to change her mind, as I was reluctant to spend the night there alone, but she remained stubborn on this matter. At least Hermione and James were allowed to keep me company until the evening. This distracted me a bit from the thought of not being able to go to dinner with them in the Great Hall later.
We talked a lot about the game, especially James, who raved with me about all the brilliant maneuvers our team had pulled off. Although Hermione was noticeably more reserved on the topic of Quidditch, you could tell she was happy for us about the victory against Slytherin.
Around 6 PM, the two of them said goodbye to me but promised to check on me again after dinner.
About half an hour later, Bella, Ginn, and Padma showed up to congratulate me on winning the game and wish me a speedy recovery. Even though you could tell Bella was a bit disappointed that her house had lost, she helped cheer me up, as my mood had sunk during the last half hour I'd spent alone in the hospital wing. When they left after about an hour, I suddenly felt incredibly restless, finding it hard not to just get up and follow them against Madam Pomfrey's instructions. However, I finally pulled myself together and dismissed this thought, which was just as well, because it wasn't long before the next visitors came. This time it was the entire Quidditch team, including Hermione and Ariana, who visited me. Wood presented me with a large pack of Bertie Bott's Every Flavor Beans and thanked me on behalf of the team for the dedication I had shown. As an animated conversation about the game began, Madam Pomfrey, who had been watching us suspiciously earlier, came over to us and announced that I needed to rest soon and that so many visitors were simply too much. Upon hearing this, Wood and the others from the team said their goodbyes and left me alone with James, Hermione, and Ariana.
Ariana, whom I hadn't seen since breakfast, inquired worriedly about how I was feeling, to which I assured her that I was already feeling much better. I remembered that Hermione had mentioned Ariana had been invited somewhere earlier, so I curiously asked her where she had been. Her answer surprised me greatly. At first, she hesitated before looking at us guiltily and explaining somewhat sheepishly that she had lied to us about her parents.
We all looked at her in astonishment. I vaguely remembered the conversation on the train ride where she had told us her parents were poor. Now she told us that she had grown up in an orphanage before being adopted by Muggles a few years ago, and had only recently learned from Hagrid, whom she had visited that afternoon, who her parents were. When the family name Prewett was mentioned, I became alert. I was sure I had heard it before, and after a short time, I remembered where: I had once overheard a conversation between my parents about old, pure-blood families that had been wiped out by Death Eaters. She confirmed my suspicion that she must inevitably be closely related to someone at Hogwarts when she recounted that Hagrid had officially introduced the Weasleys to her as her nearest living family. Her eyes were almost glowing as she talked about the meeting. I had never seen her so happy and excited before; she had always been somewhat reserved and a bit melancholic. I was happy for her that she had been offered to live with her real family.
Unfortunately, it was already quite late, which is why Madam Pomfrey sent the three of them away, even though we were in the middle of such a good conversation...
That evening I found it incredibly difficult to fall asleep as so much was buzzing around in my head: The Quidditch game, Ariana and her family, the homework I had to do tomorrow... Accordingly, I was glad when Madam Pomfrey finally gave me a potion that was supposed to give me a dreamless sleep, which was exactly what I needed to recover.
