In the middle of the night, I could feel my hand starting to swell, which woke me up. How did that happen is beyond me. The bad part? It's my writing hand. I wondered it was from that splinter that I had. Not sure what I can use for now until the morning. I don't want to do anything on my own to mess it up.

Dawn noticed it was red when she checked near a light.

"It's no wonder it's swollen," I said. "I'll just take Aleve to hold me over until morning."

However, it got worse the next morning. I can barely move it. Not sure how I can be like this at church. I took another dose of Aleve.

Down there, Sharon said, "We'll be taking Jeff to the airport before we go with my parents for the day."

"Okay," said Dad.

"Do you and Mary Anne want to join us?" asked Sharon.

"We would like to, but we have plans," said Dad.

"Okay, we can take two cars," said Sharon.

"Speaking of Mary Anne, where is she? We'll have to leave for church soon," said Dad.

"I'm not sure," said Jeff.

"Her hand was starting to swell during the night. I heard her get up," said Dawn while she was coming down. "It looks red. Not sure how it is now."

"Isn't that a sign of a blister from that splinter she had yesterday?" asked Jeff.

"Oh, yeah. I remember having that once, that's painful," said Dawn.

"I'll have to go check it out," said Dad.

That was when he saw me coming down.

"Dawn was just telling me your hand was red during the night," said Dad.

"Yes," I said. "I have no idea why."

"I can check it out, honey," said Dad. "I was just come to see you."

He was looking for his reading glasses.

"I'll have to get them. I think I left them on the table," said Dad.

"Here," said Dawn as she came out with them.

"Oh, thank you," said Dad as he was putting him on. "Oh, yes, it does look like a blister."

"It explains why my hand was swollen," I said.

"I'm not sure if your doctor is in or not to have your hand checked. I'll have to go give him a call. He may need to burst it," said Dad.

He went to go make a phone call in the den.

"I had a feeling it was a blister," said Jeff.

Dad came out two minutes later. "He can fit you in towards the end of church, so we'll have to leave in the middle of it. That's the only time he can see you."

"That's fine," said Sharon.

"We can do our own thing after that," said Dad.

Later, it was tough to handle the pain during mass. We left during communion.

At the office, Dr. Wellington said, "Your father's right. You do have a blister. I'll need to burst it before wrapping it with a bandage. Just a little warning: it may hurt."

He took a pin and burst it. It didn't hurt. It started to bleed again, so he made it stop before putting the bandage around my hand.

"I'll excuse you from Gym for a while," said the doctor.

"How long?" I asked.

"Probably for least two weeks," said the doctor. "I'll write the date for when you can return to Gym."

He wrote it down before giving it to me.

"Thanks. I'll give it to the teacher first thing I get there," I said.

"In case of pain, ice it and take anything to help," said the doctor.

"I used Aleve when it started to swell overnight," I said. "Should I stay on it?"

"Yes," replied Dr. Wellington. "Also, if you feel pain, I'd suggest you skip a meeting because I don't want you to over it."

"How about baby-sitting?" I asked.

"I think you should wait for now, too," said the doctor.

"I'll call Kristy to let her know when we leave here," I said.

"If you see anything that's bothering you, you can either call or text me anytime and I can take you in," said the doctor.

"Can I do it while I'm at school?" I asked.

"That's fine by me," said Dr. Wellington.

After we left, I called Kristy to tell her about what was going on.

"I still can attend meetings unless my hand gets sore, but I can't baby-sit," I said.

"For how long?" asked Kristy.

"My doctor say it would at least two more weeks," I said.

"Makes sense," said Kristy.

"I'll tell Dawn to take over if I need her," I said.

"No problem," said Kristy.

At the mall, we went to the food court for lunch first. Then, we went to JC Penny for the bed covers. Since we were adopting Carlos, I helped what he likes. Sports theme. I got the a basketball cover for both twin beds while getting more bed covers for the other beds. We went to Sleepy's from there.

At Sleepy's Mattress Store, we found a lot of nice, perfect mattresses, so we were all set. I showed them a picture of my bed, Dawn's, and Jeff's in the meantime. They had those beds like that, which is nice.

"Do you mind if we can make the deliver later this week while we remodel the attic?" asked Dad.

"We can do that," said the clerk as he looked at the computer. "How about Thursday?"

"That works," said Dad.

"That would give us time to clean the attic," I said.

After it was paid, we left for Walmart.

"I know we talked about letting Carlos do whatever he wants to do in his room, but I wonder if it would be easier if we can do the wallpaper before we put those nightstand and drawers," I said.

"You got a good point," said Dad. "We can go pick up wallpaper while we're there."

"We can also buy a lamp in the meantime," I said.

At Wal-Mart, we found a drawer with two mixed sports since Carlos likes both basketball and baseball. Same with the nightstand. We had someone put them in his van. I only found basketball wallpaper, but that will work. Then, we went home. At home, we brought everything in. I put the lamp with the cover and the curtains in the living room.

"We can leave the nightstand and drawer in the van for tonight," said Dad.

"Okay," I said.

"I'm thinking we can put them in the living room with the others either tomorrow or the day after," said Dad.

"Maybe Logan can help you bringing it in," I said.

"Sure, that would be great," said Dad.

"We can save curtains for last after we finish cleaning the attic. I'm not sure how tall he is to reach that," I said.

"I won't expect you to help if your hand gets sore," said Dad.

The problem is that I'd be bored out of my mind if I don't get to help Dad.

"I'll see how it goes," I said.

"I'm just more worried about your hand," said Dad. "I'll be excusing from other chores for now."
