The next day, at school, I went to talk to my teacher. I mentioned the problem to the teacher.

"This is my writing hand. I think it would be too sore to write," I said.

"No problem. I'm going to let you type assignments on the computer for now," said Mrs. Simon. "I'll alert the other teachers so they'd know what's going on."

"Okay," I said.

"I won't count on you on doing a book report," said Mrs. Simon. "I don't want your hand to get sore for doing it long."

"I can always type it on the computer, too," I said.

"That's fine by me. It's not due until Monday, so you still have time," said the teacher.

"Do you mind if I email it to you when I'm done?" I asked.

"Sure," said Mrs. Simon.

"I was able to read, but I forgot to start writing it in between helping my dad and my sore hand," I said.

"I understand," said Mrs. Simon. "I don't worry about you since you're one of the best students."

I'm glad she did it that way because it helped me rest my writing hand for awhile. At Gym, I gave the teacher the excused note from Gym. I was able to go to the school library to do the report for English. I figured I'd do since I can't do anything in Gym. Cokie thinks I'm special. I ignore her comments even though Kristy tells her off. I was halfway done until the bell rang. But I finished it during study hall. I emailed it to Mrs. Simon. I'm glad I was able to get that done.

At lunch, I told the girls about stuff. That was when Lily came around.

"Hi, Lily," said Kristy.

"Hi. Can't help but over hearing. Did you say your family is adopting Carlos, Mary Anne?" asked Lily.

"Yes," I said.

"Cool," said Lily. "When is that happening?"

"This weekend," I said.

"That was his wish," said Lily.

"Don't tell him. This is going to be a surprise," I said.

"I promise," said Lily.

"We're remodeling the attic, which will be his room," I said.

"That's good," said Lily.

"Dad's on vacation from work, which is why we're doing it," I said.

"Good time to do it," said Lily.

"I thought about letting Carlos choose wallpaper what he wants, but I figured it would be easier to do that before putting other things there," I said.

"Smart move," said Lily.

"In fact, I have to ask Logan for a favor," I said.

I got up to Logan and said, "We got the nightstand and drawers for the attic bedroom. Dad left them in his van. When is a good time for you to come and bring them in the living room? He knows you have the muscles. He wants to leave them until we finish cleaning the attic."

"I have practice today and I have an appointment tomorrow after school. If I can't make it, I can the day after tomorrow."

"Fine. We plan to start cleaning today anyway to get ready for Carlos," I said. "I save homework for at night."

"Good move," said Stacey.

"What happened with your hand?" asked Lily.

"I had a splinter the other day," I said.

"Ouch," said Lily.

"That's what we said," said Stacey.

"Then, the swollen hand woke up during the night," I said. "It turned out it was a blister."

"That's even worse," said Claudia.

"My doctor burst it and wrapped the bandage," I said.

"She had a doctor's note to skip GYM," said Kristy.

"He did say I can still attend unless it gets sore," I said.

"She called me yesterday to let me know," said Kristy.

"Isn't that your writing hand?" asked Dawn.

"Yes," I said.

"How will you able to handle that?" asked Dawn.

"I didn't think of that," I said.

"I can take over," said Dawn.

"Makes sense to me," I said.

After school, I went to Dad and said, "Logan said he can help you bringing it in the nightstand and drawers, he's going to be busy for the next two days between practice today and an appointment tomorrow otherwise, he'll try to fit that in."

"That's fine. It would still give us time to clean the attic anyway," said Dad. "I already emptied the attic to save time because I don't want you to carry anything heavy at this time."

"Is there anything I can do?" I asked.

"You can handle light stuff," said Dad.

"Okay," I said.

I was able to sweep. It was better than being lazy.

"I have to do some paperwork," said Dad.

"I can continue from here," I said.

"Okay, good. You have time to finish before dinner and you save the dusting for tomorrow," said Dad.

"Where do you want me to put the bag and the broom if we take a break?" I asked.

"You can leave it up in the attic," said Dad.

"Okay," I said.

I swept for awhile until my hand started bothering me. I find it sore for using it too long, but I didn't care. At least I can help Dad out. I came down. I took Aleve.

"How did it go?" asked Dad.

"My hand was starting to bother me while I was still sweeping. That's why I called it quits," I said.

"It's alright," said Dad.

"How should I use ice? I don't want to get it wet if it melts," I said.

"I can wrap that around the face cloth," said Dad.

"Okay," I said.

He did that. He put it on the bandage carefully.

"I'll just let you take it easy for the evening. See you how it feels before you finish up tomorrow or I can handle that while you're in school," said Dad.

Then, the doorbell rang and he went to go answer it.

"Mom brought me here on our way home so I can help," said Logan.

"Oh, good. Thank you," said Dad as he got the keys to unlock the door.

"When you're ready and after you do the wallpaper, I'll bring them up to the attic," said Logan.

"That's fine," said Dad. "I can have Mary Anne let you know."

"Take your time," said Logan.

After dinner, I was trying to get stuff done on our computer, but when my hand was getting tired, I called it quits and decided to wait until to do this in school so I can give it a break.
