FK1: Arcade.

Out in the town of Herrington-Ohio, at night, in the video arcade building-with a white rotating triangle sign on a long pole that read 'ARCADE', 12-year old Chris Hayden was playing the Star Wars game on one of the arcade machines, with his friends--four other pre-teen boys--gathered around him, cheering him on all at once.

Chris

Chris had brown hair and blue eyes, and he wore a black electric watch on his right wrist.

That's me playing the Star Wars game. Chris Hayden. During this time i was just a normal kid with a normal life. Not anymore. I didn't know it then, but these were the last normal moments of my life...and the last normal moments of the universe as i knew it. It's amazing how fast your whole life can change.

The other boys kept cheering Chris on until he lost the game and the words 'GAME OVER' appeared on the screen.

"Let me have a shot, i'll make it to the next level." One of the four other boys said. He had brown hair and blue eyes.

Johnny

That's Johnny. Johnny Weston. The one with the brown hair and blue eyes. He's 11 years old, a year younger than i am, and he attends Harrington Middle School, just like me. Though he's younger than me, Johnny is very mature for his age. Far more-so than other kids his age. Whenever i talk with him, it's like talking to someone at least as old as me, if not older. Sure, someone older than me who constantly makes dumb jokes and was forever on the wrong side of the argument, but older none-the-less. And boy, can the guy play video games. It's like he's trained his whole life for them.

"Are you dreaming again, Johnny?" Chris asked.

"You dare me?" Johnny asked.

"What do you think, Michael?" Chris asked.

"Yo, you got this, man. It's in the bag." Answered the second boy, who had long neck-length brown hair and blue eyes.

Michael

This is Michael Nolan. The kid with the long brown hair and blue eyes. He's 10 years old and in Herrington Middle School, same as me and Johnny. Michael was kind-hearted to his parents until the day his younger sister, Tina, was born. He hates it when she gets him in trouble, he hates it when his parents blame him for something that it was his fault and he hates it when his parents blow him off to spend time with her. And this unfortunately gave him a complicated relationship with his Mom, as she's so unfair to him by saying that he is always making things up, telling lies and impossible stories, trying to get his sister into trouble, and that his Dad is encouraging his "imagination" too much, even though Michael doesn't have an imagination.

"See?" Michael said.

"Alright," Chris began. "you're on, go." He said as he moved aside, allowing Michael to get in front of the screen of the arcade machine.

Michael then started to play the game.

"Come on, Michael, you can do this." Said the third boy, with long brown wavy neck-length hair and brown eyes.

Max

The kid with the wavy brown hair is Max Oliver. He's 9 years old and goes to the same school as me, Johnny and Michael. Max's birthday is in October, so that's why he's still 9 and in middle school. Max is a very shy, seldom spoken boy, ignoring other people's attempts to interact with him. Most likely due to the death of his parents. Both of Max's parents died in a car accident while they were returning home from a night out in 1995, with Max only being 6 at the time. His parents meant the world to him and he wishes they were still with him, which was why he became very agitated when Michael's sister, Tina, bought up their deaths last year out of spite and cruelty. After the death of his parents, Max was adopted by his aunt Norma-his Dad's sister, who sadly is always too busy with work to pay Max any mind.

"That's it, Michael, keep going. You got this." Said the fourth boy with long blond neck-length hair and blue eyes.

Riku

And last, but not least, my very best friend, the one with the blond hair...Riku Stark. He's 12 years old, same age as me, and attends the same school as Johnny, Michael, Max and i. Out of all four of my friends, Riku is probably the only one with the most messed up backstory/home-life. According to him, due to his Mom's boyfriend's abuse towards him and her, she ended up putting him in foster-care at the age of 5 in 1996, where he was adopted six weeks later by a couple known as the Fosters. Of course they didn't care about him, they just took him in because of the financial assistance he came with. Because of their being too busy using the finances to support their drug and alcohol addictions, the Fosters pretty much let Riku do whatever he wanted, with no rules or restrictions. And while that is every kid's dream, being able to do whatever whenever...i can see how badly Riku is affected by it. He acts like he doesn't care, but...i know it hurts him to know that the only reason the Fosters took him in was to support themselves. It's sad to know that there are people like that in real-life.

As Michael continued playing, the arcade machine started to experience static that was appearing and vanishing on it's screen.

"Hey! What's goin' on?" Michael said before the arcade machine shut off, followed by coming back on, re-starting. "That's not fair."

"You just got shut down." Chris said.

"You just got shot down." Michael said in poor imitation of Chris's voice. All five boys were so focused on the Star Wars game cutting in and out of static, they hadn't even took the time to notice that all of the other arcade machines were doing the same thing.

Chris then looked at his wrist-watch. "Ooh. Look at the time. 9:50. Gotta run." He said before he walked off.

"Yeah, i better be heading home too." Johnny added before following after Chris.

"Me too." Michael said before following Chris and Johnny.

Max followed suit and went after the other three boys. It was a school night, so they all had to be home by 10:00. Riku, however, did not have a curfew, as his adoptive parents, the Fosters, didn't care about him or what he did.

"Guys, we already paid for another 12 minutes." Riku said. But Chris and the others didn't respond. The 12-year old blond-haired boy ran after his friends, following them outside though the glass door where they went over to their bikes that were locked in the bike-rack, un-locked them, backed them out and got on them and rode off, heading for their homes.

I miss who i was before all this happened. A typical, normal middle school kid. I wonder what that version would think of me now. This Chris that thinks like an adult. I didn't know it then, but...these were the last normal moments of my life...and the last day of my childhood.

Based on the 1998 scifi horror film, Dequincyx presents the kids spin-off of 'THE FACULTY'.

This has been Chapter 1 of 'FACULTY KIDS'. So what do you think? Is it good? Is it great? I hope you liked it. Even though this is only the first chapter, i hope i was successful in giving off that 1998 nostalgic movie vibe.

Please review.
