I'm back with an update on this story, please hold back your excitement
I've aged up Miyuki so she's a toddler now, learning all about her powers and the world around her. Though she's going to be shielded more than Moroha in the Yashahime series due to having both her parents, as well as educated by them both. Think of a mini Kikyo, but with InuYasha's fringe, fangs, claws etc. But less wavy, more straight. Imagine a mini Kikyo/Izayoi with InuYasha's traits. I liked the idea of Miyuki having a mild mannered, bashful and socially awkward personality, a combination of her parents. Like Kikyo she doesn't get angry easily, keeps to herself, but being a sweet little girl. But like InuYasha she isn't good with people, isn't good at speaking her mind but unlike him she remains polite and nervous. But I did like the idea of her having his anger, being sulky, snapping or being childish, but only when deeply angered, causing her to act like him. The same determination, the desire to protect people she loves. Honestly I have so much planned for her
Sesshoumaru finally meets his niece OOOOOOO
I thought of editing her abilities more than Moroha due to being Kikyo's daughter
Please let me know what you think and please share any ideas you have :3
thank you 3
Miyuki burst through the trees, the wind whistling through the trees, the scent of spring flowers in the air, her golden-brown eyes bright and eager. Her white fangs gleaming, the young quarter demon was now a year old, she had grown much in that time, becoming a bright-eyed toddler. She had become more curious of the village in which she resided, eager to learn of the world around her and all it had to offer. Her endless vigour and love earned devotion from those around her, most notably her parents. Her mother was in the forest collecting herbs while her father went hunting for their dinner and firewood. Still carrying out their duties to the village, Kikyo still needing to tend to the villagers and others outside it who needed her help. Though she felt guilty whenever she had to leave her child behind, despite always returning home. InuYasha protecting the village in her place and driving off any rogue demon who tempted their luck.
Miyuki asked her mother if she could go and play, Kikyo had agreed, so long as she stayed nearby where she could sense her. She didn't want her running off, getting hurt or somehow alluring a demon which could use her as bait. Miyuki sniffed the air, giggling mischievously, she could smell her mother, hoping to play a game of hide and seek to surprise her. She crouched behind a bush, lightly treading so she couldn't be heard, her mother sat in a grassy field, humming to herself as she collected herbs, a warm smile on her face. Miyuki had always loved her mothers smile, it made her feel warm and safe, able to sense her mothers affection from one gaze. Miyuki giggled, she couldn't wait to see the look on her mother's face. Would she scream, would she laugh or would she jump?
Kikyo smiled to herself, though her daughter had light footsteps much like her father due to the demon blood in her, being a potent priestess, she could always sense her demonic aura. But she never said a word, knowing how much it made her smile, doting on her child's naivety and childish enthusiasm, "Miyuki, where are you hiding?" she teased. She would need to return home to help with the medicine. Suddenly there came a rustle from the trees, Miyuki bursting from the leaves with a bright smile, Miyuki already greatly resembled her, even at a year old. The drastic changes never failed to surprise Kikyo, spiking her curiousity of the woman she would become someday. Her hair had grown to her elbows, silky black like both her parents, a slightly tousled and curled fringe like InuYasha, but mostly straight like her aunt and mother, styled back into a ponytail which fell to her mid-back. She wore a red kimono that resembled her fathers, made from the same robe of the fire rat, which Kikyo had woven using some of its threads Myoga and Totosai having gathered the materials for her, at the request of their master, though Kikyo had printed some cherry blossoms along the hem of the sleeves and skirt. Representing strength, beauty and love, all of the things Miyuki had in her life. Like both her parents, but most notably Kikyo, Miyuki harboured a compassionate heart that prevented her from ever becoming a bully or acting cruelly towards others. Inheriting a mild mannered spirit, a quiet soul that kept to herself but had a strong attachment to her family. Unlike her father she didn't get angered easily, however when pushed far enough or sulking she behaved childishly as expected of her age, but mirroring her father at the same time. She harboured a profuse love for her family, as well as a deep admiration for her parents. However, due to being so young she was bashful around others and clung to them for support.
Suddenly there was a flash of black and red, a pair of small arms wrapped around her back and a soft face nuzzled against her cheek "Gotcha mama!" Miyuki giggled. She loved the way her mother smelled, the warm comforting scent of spring. It made her feel safe, always knowing where to find her.
"Oh my, you surprised me" Kikyo smiled, faking shock, Miyuki had become rather adapted to hide and seek, loving to explore and learn. Though she allowed Miyuki to wander her home and have fun, she was always sure she never roamed too far and could return home safely. There would always be someone who meant ill will towards her daughter, she would never let that happen.
Miyuki blinked back at her mother, worry filling her eyes "Did I scare you?" she asked, sometimes other kids avoided her because she looked funny, sometimes she saw grown ups avoid her or treat her differently because of how she looked. She didn't want her mama to feel that way about her too.
Kikyo smiled, kissing her daughters cheek "You could never scare me" she soothed, she felt many feelings towards her daughter but fear was never one of them. Worry and love being the main ones. Someday she may give Miyuki a sibling, who would have the same powers as her, but that was a possible future. For now she would spend her life teaching Miyuki lessons to guide her through life.
Miyuki smiled, sliding off her mothers back and staring at the plants she was gathering, they smelled funny but her mother was always gathering them. They had rows and rows of jars filled with them in the home, people always asking to buy them. She knew her grandma had used them too in order to make potions. But she never understood what they were for, only that they were important. "What are those funny plants? They smell odd?" Miyuki questioned, they smelled bitter, sweet or sometimes just earthy. But each had a unique smell, some made her sick, others were soothing.
Kikyo held a sprig of herbs in her hand, allowing her daughter to examine the roots, leaves, and flowers, she would need educating on all of these. Just as she had to Kaede for her training as a priestess. Miyuki would use these to help people someday too, when she followed in her footsteps "These are herbs Miyuki, your auntie Kaede and I collect these to make into medicine, as our duty as priestesses" Kikyo explained. People would always fall sick, have ailments, injuries and other forms of health reasons that would need herbal remedies. Easing and healing the body back to health, though it couldn't always fix people back to optimal health, their quality of life had been restored.
Miyuki blinked, she had heard people calling her mother "Lady Kikyo" or "Priestess Kikyo" but she never understood what it meant. She had always just been her mama, someone wise and someone kind. Was her mother keeping secrets? Did her papa know? Is this why she sometimes had to leave the village so she stayed with her papa or auntie Kaede? "What's a priestess mama?" Miyuki questioned. She knew many out there existed but she had never seen one before, aside from her mother. What kind of people were they, what did they look like?
Kikyo's expression became pained, though she had fought and exorcised many wicked demons through her life, trained to believe demons were the enemy. But that had changed, realising she was wrong after meeting InuYasha she realized the world and demons were far more complicated. And her daughter carried that blood within her, "Miyuki, you know papa is a half-demon?" she pressed. She remembered the first day they explained this to her, the shock she had shown, the curiosity and endless love. Playing with her papa's ears and teeth for a good few hours, bombarding him with questions. Miyuki reflected on this deeply, she knew her father was strong, powerful, fast, she had never been scared of his fangs or claws because she had them too. But her speed, strength, stamina, and hearing were a quarter of what her fathers were, but they were still stronger than the average human. "Well some demons, not all, they are mean, they are scary and they want to hurt people like mama and papa" Kikyo explained. Many demons had made attempts on her life and those closest to her. Demons had manipulated others, taken advantage of them, corrupted them, attempted to make them their brides. Ruined lives in many ways all to increase their powers.
Miyuki's expression became scared, there were demons out there that would hurt her family? But why? She hadn't hurt anyone, papa and mama were only trying to protect her and their home. Why did that make them bad people? "But… but that's mean…" she mumbled, it felt like something a bully would do.
Kikyo nodded, relieved that Miyuki was beginning to understand "Indeed, but people like me, a priestess, we protect villagers from mean people. Sometimes we have to exorcise them, so they cannot harm anyone" she explained. She had forged barriers to keep demons out, purified and destroyed the shikon jewel from existence, performing mystic spells to heal others and more. Projecting her spiritual energy as a weapon against others. Sometimes drastic and difficult decisions had to be made for the greater good, often taking a toll on Kikyo, often feeling guilt and remorse, wondering if things could have been done differently.
"But… not all demons" Miyuki reminded her, papa was a half breed and she wasn't a bad person, Grandpa Myoga the flea was a demon and he was very kind though a coward. She was part demon and she wasn't a bad person either. Meaning there had to be other demons in the world who had a good heart too, they couldn't be all bad. Maybe someday she may meet some.
Kikyo smiled "Hai, not all demons, like your Grandpa Touga who fell for your grandma Izayoi" she explained. Izayoi had been a kind, gentle and patient woman who fell for her husband. His affinity for humans was what caused them to fall in love then later marry. She hoped someday Miyuki would meet other Hanyou or even full demons who would accept her. Though she felt it would be nearly impossible, she hoped it may come true. If her grandfather could harbour such kindness, couldn't someone else?
"Are all priestesses pretty and kind like you mama?" Miyuki asked
Kikyo smiled, chuckling in amusement "No Miyuki, a priestesses nature can differ, some are pure and good-natured, others are wicked and dangerous. The path of a priestess deviates for all" she explained. Tsubaki was a vain woman, obsessed with eternal youth and gaining power, she still resented Kikyo for destroying the jewel and becoming stronger even after becoming a mother. She would stop at nothing to overpower her and gain respect from others. She had become corrupt along her path to gain power, losing sight of why she became a priestess to begin with. Midoriko had been a powerful and deeply pure woman who never once faltered from her path, who fell at the hands of a demon. She herself had remained selfless and pure, uncorrupted, the love she felt for InuYasha and her love for her daughter, still allowing her powers to grow.
Miyuki's eyes widened, priestesses sounded magical, like superhuman goddesses with innate powers that could allow them to do anything. If she was like her mama, could she achieve such things? She didn't even think that was possible "Will… will I have powers like you someday?" Miyuki asked. She would give anything to be as cool as her mother. She wanted her mother to tell her more, but maybe she could ask her auntie Kaede too.
Kikyo smiled, seeing her daughter gaze at her with wide eyed curiousity warmed her heart. She had always seen being a priestess as a duty, but now she was her daughters idol. Giving her a newfound passion for her life, realising her daughter saw her as someone she could look up to. Changing her path as a priestess and how her actions would affect her motherhood. "Someday, much like your demon blood, as you get older it will develop and become stronger". She wondered what kind of priestess her daughter would be and how she would change the course of her own destiny.
Kikyo walked along the path through the village, her basket of herbs under her arm while Miyuki rested in her mother's arms, clutching her robes tightly. She kept her gaze averted to the ground or focusing on something elsewhere, so people wouldn't scatter or make a strange face if they knew she was listening. Miyuki could sense people staring at her, people always did and she never knew why. Her mother told her a story that after she was born people had pestered her, always flocking to see Miyuki. But now people scattered away from her or either got too nosy and intrusive. She didn't know why she was so interesting to other people. Her hair wasn't a funny colour like her papa, her eyes weren't a strange colour, she didn't smell bad and she never did anything wrong. So why were people mean? Whenever she tried to play with other kids, other kids teased her for her fangs or claws. Saying she looked scary or she was a monster, when that's just how she was born. Saying her eyes were a funny colour, while other kids said they were pretty. Some wanted to play with her and were kind, others treated her badly. She never knew how people would treat her. "Mama, do I have something on my face?" she asked.
Kikyo bit back her rage, she knew people were staring at her daughter, curious of the hybrid child of Kikyo and her husband. Many still isolated Miyuki out of fear that she would lose control or become a threat to the village. She'd known since Miyuki was an infant, that people would fear her due to their superstitions or bad experiences with demons. See her differently, treat her differently, all because of her demon blood. She couldn't tell her daughter the truth, the reason why she would always be lonely, isolated and mistreated. Soon they reached the hut, relieved to be back home, surrounded by privacy away from the wandering and curious eyes of others.
Kaede was at the temple training, earlier in the year, taking the first steps to become a priestess. Though she still took education from her sister, to become a fully-fledged priestess was a different matter entirely. The village had placed what funding they could towards the temple, many having great respect for Kikyo and believing that her sister had the same potential. She was travelling back and forth from home, studying relentlessly and memorising all she could. Kikyo was very proud of her, she too would become a mentor to her niece someday, teaching another generation of priestess.
Miyuki began sniffing the air eagerly, a bright smile formed on her face, her previous worries depleting. She knew that scent anywhere, he was very close. She had missed him so much and she knew he had been out hunting. "PAPA'S HOME!" she squealed. She couldn't wait to tell him of the day she had shared with her mother, all the discoveries she had made. InuYasha came into view, carrying the carcass of a dead animal for their meal, a hefty amount of timber under his arm for their fire. "PAPA!" Miyuki cried, jumping from her mother's arms and running towards her father, leaping into his arms.
InuYasha's ears twitched, his nose sniffing, he'd been worried about leaving Kikyo on her own, but she had assured him she would be fine. She had regained her strength and after giving birth her powers had only grown stronger. But they both had more to lose now, he couldn't risk that, not after finally building such a happy life together. The scent of his mate and child approaching, a tender expression on his face. He dropped his spoils, opening his arms as Miyuki leapt into his embrace, nuzzling his face against his daughter's cheek, her soft rosy cheeks against his own. The endless love he felt for his child couldn't be expressed in words, but she was special. One of the best things to have ever come into his life, so happy he and Kikyo had created this life. The scent of her demon and human blood mixed, she smelled like plum blossoms, Yuzu, and snow. Gentle winter blossoms, citrus, and winter air, which was rather poetic given the time of year she was born. A gentle floral scent mixed with spicy citrus, calming and comforting.
She was only a year old and her demon blood was already flowing strong, as eager and curious as he had been at her age. He couldn't be prouder of her growth and achievements. She had her mother's compassionate heart, sympathy, and empathy for all living things, mild-mannered, shy, and often hiding behind their legs or bowing her head. She was always worried of others and how her actions effected others, self aware. She felt remorse and sadness for others, even when they were cruel to her. A stronger spirit than he had at her age. Many of the local village children had crushes on Miyuki, a rare few among those that were merely cruel to her. But they never got too close or did it when he was around, aware of the consequences that would occur. He'd seen the boys her age blushing and stumbling, she had inherited both of their looks. He wouldn't deny that his daughter was a pretty child, she would break hearts someday. However, there were still kids and adults that spoke badly of her, how her eyes were an odd colour, how it was scary she had fangs and claws. That Miyuki cheated in chase and games of tag because of her speed. Many children were scared of her because of how strong she was, the same things he had faced as a child. InuYasha had always been prepared that starting a life with Kikyo, falling in love with her, it would lead to this. That their child would suffer the same consequences he had. But she wasn't alone, she had her parents protection, neither himself nor Kikyo would allow anyone to hurt her. He had overheard Miyuki asking if she had something on her face from people staring, too naïve to understand their looks. He'd have to have a word with some of the villagers, asking why they felt the need to insult and bully his daughter if they respected her mother so much. He loved Kikyo and he would never let anyone disrespect her, the same for Miyuki.
InuYasha smiled "Were you a good girl today Miyuki?" he smiled, he knew she liked to explore and wander. It was in her nature to be curious at this age. But there would always be danger, though stronger and faster than normal kids. She was weaker than he had been, her powers weren't fully developed and she could be hurt. Her safety would always come first.
Miyuki nodded, she wished he had been there, it would have been so much fun. Papa often cheated but she still enjoyed playing with him "Mama and I went to pick herbs, but I played hide and seek" she grinned. Her mother knew she would get curious and bored, but she always let her play while she worked. Sometimes she found presents and gave them to her mother to keep.
InuYasha grinned, sometimes Miyuki had a habit of finding odd things and bringing them to her parents, which was often amusing. Sometimes she found snacks and brought them home to be cooked into something tasty. The unpredictability of her curious finds was often a form of amusement for him, seeing Kikyo and Kaede's responses "Find anything interesting?" he teased. He needed to teach her to hunt and forage, though she followed her instincts, he knew the day would come when she would need to protect herself from harm. Finding food, finding shelter, and collecting enough food to survive.
"I found some biiig fruit trees, but I couldn't bring them home, but they were tasty! I found some frogs, I climbed some trees. But I thought I'd scare mama, but I think she heard me" Miyuki babbled. They had smelled really delicious but she ended up eating some, she didn't have anything to carry the fruit so she left it be. But she needed to go hunting with papa and bring some home. The pond had been cold but soothing, splashing, chasing frogs and slipping, but it had been fun. Finding fish, the water was fresh and drinkable. But she couldn't stay long as her mother would worry. So she followed her nose and found where her mother would be waiting for her return.
InuYasha peered at Kikyo and bit back a laugh, the same way Kikyo could always sense him, she could sense Miyuki too. Using her daughter via her location, able to differentiate her aura from another demon. Despite the toddlers attempts to catch her off guard, she had so far failed continuously, but Kikyo humoured her. Be it her demonic or spiritual aura, she would always find her daughter. "Is that so, well maybe mama is just boring, why not play with papa instead?" he chuckled.
"Yaaay!" Miyuki cried. Kikyo scoffed but laughed, aware InuYasha was merely teasing and wished to bond with her. He encouraged her hobbies, curiousity and habits. She was causing no harm and she wasn't putting herself at risk, merely enjoying her childhood naivety. Approaching the pair, kissing InuYasha tenderly.
Miyuki lay curled up in bed, snoring softly, having tired herself out after running around for hours, her limbs twitching subconsciously as she slept. Mumbling nonsense as she was lost to the dreams in her small mind. Kikyo sat grinding herbs while InuYasha tended to dinner, preparing for any evening visits or emergencies she may have to make. Despite being a mother she still had a job and people relied on her for help. Though they were understanding that her role had changed since becoming a mother. Kaede had returned home and was helping Kikyo with her medicines, bottling and storing them on the shelf. She had given her niece a blanket to make sure she didn't get cold as she napped peacefully. She made sure as to not wake Miyuki by dropping or spilling anything, being so young, despite her demon blood, Miyuki needed a lot of rest. The energy she needed to grow while her powers developed drained a lot of her energy, she was so full of life yet still so young, full of her father's rebellious spirit. Both sisters teased InuYasha on how alike they were at times.
"Didn't take them long to turn on her" InuYasha growled, he'd been prepared for it to happen, but it had occurred sooner than he expected. Starting from her infancy when the villagers saw her for the first time. Now that she was older it was just getting worse. Just like him, Miyuki was being tormented already, isolated for merely existing because her parents loved each other. He knew it was going to happen, he knew because of her demon blood she would be bullied. His brother had treated him with the same disdain for his human blood, but with humans, it was because she was seen as a monster. This village was her home, she was born here. But the residents would never see her that way, she was a freak to them.
Kaede stiffened, her expression becoming bitter, how could anyone hate her niece? She felt guilty that she couldn't bond with Miyuki as much due to her training. But she loved her endlessly. Knowing she was being turned on by other villagers angered her. She loved Miyuki, she was her family but somehow she was treated differently due to her father. She was mostly human, but that would never be enough for anyone. So long as she had demon blood the villagers would never truly accept her. But then the same would go for demons, her human blood would make her the enemy.
Kikyo's gaze became pained, she wished there was a way to make it stop, that people could see Miyuki for who she truly was. She was nobodies enemy, she was a threat to nobody in this village. Somehow it was worse now than when she was a baby. Miyuki still strongly resembled a human but her demon traits were potent, her sharp golden brown eyes, her fangs and claws, her inhuman abilities. She would never truly fit in either world. Her daughter deserved love, affection and acceptance, she couldn't help where she came from. She had to earn her place in the world harder than anyone. She just hoped in time people's assumptions about her would change.
"You look like you have a vendetta" InuYasha chuckled, she was wearing a scary expression. Kikyo had always had a cold demeanor when angered, reserved and internalizing her feelings. But he'd become innately skilled at reading her emotions and moods like a book. Able to tell when she was calm, happy, bashful, surprised and angry. Though she had become more comfortable with showing her feelings, she still closed off occasionally when she was deep in thought.
Kaede nodded in agreement "Kikyo Onee-chan looks scary". She didn't envy anyone who got on the bad side of her sister.
Kikyo sighed, placing her hand over her face, trying to calm herself and work through her feelings "Thinking of what Miyuki has to tolerate, what you were forced to endure, the endless cruelty and ignorance, it infuriates me" she growled. The madness never seemed to end, the cycle continued. InuYasha had been isolated, ostracized, orphaned and bullied due to his parentage, now their daughter suffered the same thing. It just made no sense to her whatsoever. Kaede was aware she would be the rare case of priestess to be related to a demon, both an in-law and a biological relative, putting her in a unique situation. But it had educated her further on the nature of demons and how they weren't all monsters. If Kaede and herself were capable of change, why were so many unable to accept the concept?
"Ignorance is everywhere, war, violence, senseless deaths, it's not just a human trait, demons can be stupid too. But it's a different kind of stupid when it comes to half breeds" InuYasha sighed. People fought for all sorts of reasons, poverty caused desperation where people killed and fought each other for food, shelter, clothes and money. The endless wars caused by powerful overlords who sought more power, more land, corrupted by their greed. Senseless deaths caused by the casualties of poverty, war and bandits. But even demons had their idiocy, causing wars, fighting for territories, corrupting humans and more. But half breeds were dragged into either side because they could never truly belong.
Kikyo nodded "She doesn't understand why yet, but she's catching on. I know it's selfish but I want her to remain innocent a bit longer before she realizes how cruel the world can be" she reminisced. The day Miyuki realised the reality of what her life would be like, the day her innocence was shattered and she matured. She would never go back to this kind of happiness. Miyuki was her firstborn and the first known priestess to carry demonic blood, this would cause issues among her training but also people who may trust her. Seeking help from a priestess but become worried at her being part demon. Myoga had mentioned that due to his potent blood as a DaiYokai Hanyo, the Tetsuigha he held had a shield placed on it to protect him and keep him in check. Would Miyuki also require that sort of seal to prevent her from ever losing control? But more than that while half breeds were common, quarter breeds were even rarer. Tsubaki harboured a grudge towards her, for being the protector of the Shikon jewel, before she purified and destroyed it. Tsubaki may attempt attacks towards her child as a form of revenge of Kikyo's found happiness. She would't put it past her, the cruelty she was capable of. Tsubaki had cursed her to never fall in love, but Kikyo had fallen anyway and she had become stronger for it. She would always be treated differently due to her parentage and family lineage, demons were still hated and resented in the world, half demons even more so. This would follow Miyuki wherever she went in life, reminded of who she was and where she came from. But dealing with the judgement of others would be something she would unfortunately become better at coping with. She would never truly be trusted as a priestess, believing her demonic blood would corrupt her and she may fall prey to demonic influence. She would never be able to fully live among either world, humans would fear and resent her, demons would see her as prey or a traitor. She hated that fact, she wanted her daughter to be happy and safe.
InuYasha hummed, all parents had their child's wellbeing in mind, at least good parents did. Kikyo's endless empathy caused her to be protective of Miyuki and worry for her future. Enemies of her parents would hold grudges and wish to take them out on Miyuki as payback. InuYasha still had enemies his father forged when he was alive that sought to kill him as revenge, the same for Sesshoumaru. Kikyo had enemies such as Tsubaki who hated her. But Miyuki wasn't like other children, cracking his claws as he continued preparing dinner "But I never had the unique parentage she was blessed with" InuYasha pressed. "I'm a half breed of a DaiYokai general and a princess, but Miyuki is the daughter of a Daiyokai half breed and a potent priestess. I'm sure if she channelled her spiritual essence enough, as well as a protective blade. She could repress it from ever losing control" InuYasha explained. There was never a history of a demon mating with a priestess, normal human women or men were common, but not a priestess. Which only added another reasons demons would fear her, she was something strange, unknown. He was the son of Touga, Sesshoumaru was close to becoming stronger than his father before him, feared and respected. InuYasha was a powerful and dangerous Half breed, though nowhere near as respected, shunned, Kikyo was a respected, formidable and beautiful priestess with unmatched power. She had no former training experience which made her even more deadly, capable of feats many priestesses could only dream of. Miyuki had inherited both those powers innately, perhaps with the training, she could learn to control her demon blood.
Kikyo's eyes filled with hope, her face lighting up with love, if it kept her daughter safe and prevented further stigma, "Do… do you think it's possible?" she questioned. She had considered it but she was always afraid it may not be enough. Miyuki was not a monster and she didn't wish for the world to see her that way. Her demon blood made her who she was, but it was also something dangerous that she may not be able to control easily. She knew InuYasha had lost control of his demon blood, frightening himself. Losing himself to a chaotic blood lust where he couldn't recognise familiar loved ones around him. The fear that Miyuki could lose a fragment of herself and hurt someone without meaning to, that frightened her.
InuYasha smiled "You're the most powerful priestess I've ever met, enough to scare the shit out of me when we first met. I don't think I've heard of anyone as powerful as you since Midoriko" he chuckled. Midoriko was a prominent priestess who lived centuries before himself or Kikyo, her spiritual power was so strong she could slice down enemies with a single stroke of her blade. Capable of taking on beasts as strong as his father or even his half brother. Kikyo's purification powers and barriers were nearly on par with hers. Kikyo had the respect and admiration of everyone in the village, even out of their continent. KIkyo had earned his respect the moment they met, effortlessly pinning him to a tree and capable of killing him if she so wished. However, Kikyo showed mercy towards even her enemies and would never kill needlessly. That was already an important role she would be handing down her to daughter. Kikyo would go down in history as a legend someday, much as Midoriko had, remembered for centuries after her death. Perhaps their daughter may someday too.
"InuYasha Onii-chan is right, nobody is stronger than you, and Miyuki has all three of us looking out for her. She'll be ok" Kaede reassured them. She had learned so much from her sister, but her eyes had been opened since meeting InuYasha. Aware of her past ignorance, that not all demons were monsters and not all humans were good. She loved Kikyo dearly, hoping to someday match her skills and potential and a priestess. But she loved InuYasha as a big brother, he too was her family. She hoped to someday become a great role model to her niece, teaching her as many lessons as Kikyo had for her.
Miyuki yawned, her eyes hazy and filled with sleep, her black hair tousled from rolling around, twitching and mumbling occasionally as she was lost to the world of dreams. Having been wrapped in a blanket by Kaede while her parents tended to household chores. She blinked lazily as the delicious smell of dinner filled her senses, how long had she napped for? It was now dark outside as the sun had set in the distance and the darkness of the night clouded over the village, silvery twinkling stars gleaming above them. She rubbed her eyes, slowly sitting up her head bobbing lazily. "Good evening Miyuki" Kikyo soothed softly, she had rested well, making sweet noises in her sleep. Wondering what wonderful and magical things she was dreaming of.
Miyuki yawned, her small white fangs gleaming brightly, unable to sit up properly, leaning forward and nearly falling over. InuYasha scooped his daughter into his arms, placing her on his lap while Kikyo served up dinner. Nuzzling against her head affectionately, chuckling in amusement at her half asleep antics. InuYasha placed his bowl of stew in front of him, then gave Miyuki her smaller bowl, making sure she didn't spill any. Being a mild-mannered child, she was equipped in table manners. She loved to help out with chores around the home, be it tending to ingredients, collecting utensils to eat dinner with or helping to clear up. She enjoyed being involved and helping her parents. Kikyo poured Kaede a bowl before taking care of herself, making sure everyone was taken care of. All of them sitting around the fire with a warm bowl of stew, the warm taste of the meat InuYasha caught, the taste of spices, vegetables and herbs. arming them and filling their stomachs. The gentle sound of a hooting owl in the distance, nearby cattle the village used for food, chickens, wandering villagers and the sound of the wind in the trees.
Kikyo took a deep breath, it was now or never and they needed to discuss this, it was cruel. But she would rather her daughter be educated on the reality of the path she would face through her life. Rather than shelter her by covering her ears, so she had to discover the hard way like her father had. She just hoped she didn't resent her for it as she grew up. That the love she and InuYasha felt for each other had brought this burden on Miyuki. But Miyuki needed to be prepared for the life she would face, the insults, cruelty, misjudgment, mistreatment and bullying she would face due to her mixed blood. So she wouldn't have to learn the hard way as her father had. "Miyuki, remember earlier when you asked mama about why people were staring at you? When I told you about papa and how I'm a priestess" Kikyo forced out hesitantly.
Kaede gripped her spoon, she knew this day would come just not when Miyuki was so young. She often overheard people speaking badly of Miyuki, InuYasha and Kikyo which angered her deeply. How InuYasha had seduced Kikyo into pitying demons, how Kikyo had fallen prey to a demon and birthed his child. How Miyuki would attack the village and cause nothing but problems. She had lashed out too many times to count about how rotten the villagers were, how her sister and InuYasha loved each other. How he was a good person, how not all demons were bad and Miyuki wasn't a bad person. Realising how ignorant she had been in the past, how meeting InuYasha had changed her opinion.
InuYasha's grip around Miyuki got tighter, his gaze turned steely, holding her closer to him. Growling lowly under his breath. He'd faced stigma and judgement his whole life. Bullied by older demons as a child, his life threatened and fighting to remain strong and make his place in the world. His mother shielding him from the cruelty until her death. His daughter being mostly human, it would allow her to blend in easier, but her prominent demonic traits would always make her an outcast. Miyuki blinked, staring back at her mother with wide eyes
"Your grandfather Touga, he was a very powerful demon called a DaiYokai, they can often be compared to gods and take on human form compared to other demons. Your grandfather met a human and fell in love with her like me and papa…" Kikyo continued. Touga had been a warlord of the western lands, a profusely dangerous and powerful demon who had become a legend in the demon world. Forging many enemies in his time due to his strength and power. First mating with Sesshoumaru's mother and birthing their son, before he fell for Izayoi and had InuYasha together.
Kaede watched closely, she had heard stories of InuYasha's father and how powerful he was, wondering how strong Sesshoumaru was in comparison. She was curious as to what kind of person Lord Touga had been to have earned such a reputation and respect. However, Sesshoumaru was a cold, distant and apathetic person, bullying, neglecting and abusing InuYasha for years for being a half demon. Well aware of Izayoi's death and instead of taking him in, he left him to fend for himself. Treating him like a freak and a burden for most of his life, causing strong hostility and tension between the two. Wondering if they would ever meet their elusive brother in law someday.
"Which is why papa is a half breed" Miyuki stated, she had yet to see her fathers human form, as the dark moon was yet to happen. He knew it was something he was ashamed of and people would try and attack him when he lost his powers. But she loved her papa, he wasn't a monster, and his human form didn't make him weak. She knew it happened once a month but he had always locked himself away when it occurred. She knew it was private and he liked to hide, but she hoped one day he would trust her. Her mother had explained his human form was very handsome and he deeply resembled her grandmother. She loved to play with his ears and cuddle him, he made her feel safe. So why would she ever be scared of him if he was a human?
Kikyo nodded, Miyuki was a fast learner, even for someone so young, absorbing information efficiently which would make her a skilled priestess. She respected people's boundaries and wishes, including her parents. Despite her desire to see her father during a dark moon, she understood her father was nervous to do so. To which she avoided him until he returned to his Hanyou form.
InuYasha sighed, stiffly, this wasn't a discussion he enjoyed having, for the longest time his human blood had been something he was shamed for. Sesshoumaru called it dirty blood, other demons called him a half breed weakling. The love he felt for his mother was seen as something to be ashamed of, that he was a disgrace. But Kikyo allowed him to feel that love, to understand and believe he could be loved by someone. His daughter should never have to feel ashamed of who she was. He would have to chip in as much as he hated this discussion "You know how papa loses his powers sometimes and becomes a human?" InuYasha explained. He knew Miyuki would never tell anyone, she was smarter than the average-year-old, being a hybrid she had that unfortunate understanding of being different in a bad way. She knew that she would always be seen as an outsider to others, too dangerous to be trusted. Shunned for not being a full human but also not being a stronger full demon. She knew her papa's powers were strong, but if anyone found him as a human they could hurt him, just like they could hurt mama and Kaede. Making her protectiveness and love for her parents even stronger, willing to put herself in harms way to protect them, just as InuYasha would for them. She wasn't old enough to have seen him in that form yet, she was only a year old. But someday she would, she was the only person aside from his mate and Kaede who would ever see that side of him. He was scared shitless of what her reaction would be, the way her eyes would look at him and what she would think of him. A different version of the father she was used to.
Miyuki nodded, still watching her father, she could see the pain in her fathers eyes that this was hard for him to talk about. But she knew it was also important so she couldn't ignore him. But she worried that he would begin to cry while talking about this and she didn't want that.
His gaze became pained, sad "S…. sometimes Miyuki, the demon blood of hybrids like papa and yourself, they can be too potent, too strong. Sometimes we can become… scary, lose control. It's not our fault but it can happen…." he explained. When he lost Tetsuigha, if it was away from him for too long or if it was broken, his demon blood took over to protect himself. But he often lost himself in bloodlust and wasn't able to think clearly during this time, he never wanted that to happen to Miyuki. People would say that her demon blood was too powerful to be controlled, that she couldn't be trusted. Only adding more fuel to Sesshoumaru to insult his niece. His love and pride for Miyuki would never falter, but his fear that the demon in her would possibly lose control was always a risk.
A look of worry flashed across Miyuki's face, now she understood why the villagers were wary of her. She would never hurt anyone, nor she did she wish ill on any of them. If she hurt them by accident they would see her as someone who couldn't be trusted. "Am… am I a monster too?" she whimpered, then she wouldn't have any friends at all. Nobody would want to play with her, nobody would want to speak to her. They would all avoid her.
InuYasha gripped her cheeks in his hands, an expression of anger, sadness and love formed on his face "Never! Miyuki, me and mama love you very much and you are anything but a monster. We just want to protect you from getting hurt" he explained. The seeds of doubt could be planted easily and at Miyiki's age that was a dangerous thing, shaping the person she would become. Afraid of judgement and developing cynicism of the world around her. InuYasha licked his lips, he had to explain this carefully in a way she would understand without confusing her. It was hard to not get upset while talking about such a delicate topic of conversation. "Just like mama said how some priestesses can be bad, so can demons. But you merely have strong powers just like papa, but you're weaker than me so you can't control them as easily" he continued. He then nodded at Kaede and Kikyo "… But you are also like auntie Kaede and mama, you have potent spiritual power inside of you. You may someday be stronger than mama, using that harnessed spiritual power you could balance out your demon blood" he explained. Miyuki had the rare case of potent spiritual power of a formidable priestess, capable of immense spiritual powers. That power may prevent her from losing control and even purify the influence of imbalance of her demon blood taking over.
Miyuki hummed, she had observed her mother working, how easily she was able to make potions, how she could heal the sick and injured. The swiftness of her arrow and how skilled she was in battle. Was her papa saying that someday she may be skilled enough to achieve such things? "Like magic? I can use a spell to control it but not in a bad way" she reflected.
InuYasha smiled, once again his daughters intuition was kicking in, her fast learning may someday save her life. "Exactly, balance it out" he praised. If her spiritual inheritance could prevent her demon blood from sending her into a blood lust, she wouldn't be feared as much. Using both her demonic powers to her advantage while protecting herself and others. She was already faster and stronger than children her age, with training she would be a stronger match than the average priestess.
"You… you aren't going to put a spell on me are you? Like mama when she has to seal things?" Miyuki whimpered. She knew some demonic powers or demons were too strong to be destroyed or purified, so they had to be sealed away using her powers instead. She knew the sword her father used was a weapon, but it also kept his demonic blood in check. Many demons needed seals to keep them trapped away from hurting people. Some Hanyou needed them to prevent their demon blood from becoming uncontrollable. She didn't want her parents to be forced to use that magic on her.
InuYasha frowned, to which Kikyo stepped in, placing her hand on her husband's shoulder "We don't want it to have to come to that Miyuki, this is our responsibility as much as yours. But we want you to channel your spiritual power, that power may purify your demonic blood and keep it balanced, allowing you to harness both without losing control" Kikyo explained. She never wanted the day to come where she would be forced to place a seal on Miyuki to prevent her from being influenced by her demon blood. She wanted Miyuki to have a normal childhood, to embrace her powers and never feel like she was a danger to anyone. Sealing her demonic blood would always be a last resort, they believed in her potential.
Kaede nearly choked on her soup "Is…. Is that possible?" she babbled, she had never heard of demonic and spiritual power being balanced. The two were constantly combating one another. Demons were exorcised or overwhelmed by spiritual power, leading to them being sealed away. Some demons were more potent than a priestess could handle leading to her death. If Miyuki was capable of such a thing, she would be the first demon hybrid to do so.
"We hope so, it's a theory but it may be possible" Kikyo explained, she was placing a lot of faith in this belief. She had no assurance that it would work, nothing aside from hope, prayers and faith. She wanted Miyuki to be the strongest version of herself, someone of confidence, power and happiness. One that could face the world without fear or shame. Miyuki's curiousity made her a great hunter and followed her intuition, two things that a priestess needed. If she harnessed her already innate skills and added them to her training, she would achieve great things.
"So… so if Miyuki gets priestess training like me, she can learn this?" Kaede stated, she never thought Miyuki could be capable of something so cool. She felt comfort in the thought of training alongside Miyuki or someday training her. That she would follow in family footsteps and find her own special power. She worried that many priests and priestesses who may mentor her could turn her away out of fear, but she hoped it wouldn't come to that. Miyuki deserved the chance to prove herself as much as anyone. Tapping into powers that were unheard of and powers that her sister was capable of. She felt excited imagining the future priestess Miyuki would become.
Miyuki shifted, taking all of this in and contemplating what her future could hold. She already had strong powers like her papa, she could do all sorts of cool things that normal kids couldn't. But she knew her mama was also very powerful and she was respected and even some people were scared of her. If she could use both those powers, learning to control them was a good thing. "I… I don't want to hurt people, I don't want people to be scared of me. I… I want to be strong like mama and papa, I want to become a priestess too. But… if I need to stop myself from hurting other people, I need to control them" she mumbled. She could prove to the villagers and other kids that she wasn't what they believed her to be, shoving it in their faces. Like her father she would make her own place in the world. Her family believed in her and that was what mattered more than anything, they would always be on her side.
InuYasha nuzzled Miyuki affectionately, breathing in her scent "Mama and I won't ever let anyone hurt you, I'll help you learn how to fight and use your senses. Mama will teach you how to use your powers and balance them out. Then someday, you'll be as strong as us" he smiled. His mother had known some medicinal knowledge, which he could pass onto her, though it wasn't as vast as Kikyo's. When she was gifted her sword, he could train her to use it. Controlling her demonic power and learning how to use it would be easy for him. Listening to her senses, using her claws and fangs. Maybe she may even develop night vision like himself and his brother. Kikyo and Kaede would educate her on archery, spiritual awareness and sensing paranormal and demonic entities. Forming spiritual shields, reflecting demons and enemies with her powers, even barrier summoning.
Kikyo smiled, moving towards her husband and daughter, kissing them both and holding them close. Miyuki had taken this education well, she hadn't cried, lashed out or become angry towards them. But then opening her up to her heritage early had helped ease her into her identity. She had shown fear of what she could become capable of, but eager to learn all she could. She would never transform the same way InuYasha did due to her demon blood being too weak, instead she would merely harness her own gifts. Though misunderstandings had occurred they had been honest and spoken clearly, allowing Miyuki to understand.
"And if anyone bullies Miyuki if anyone says anything mean to her, I'll kick their butts. I have powers too so I can train alongside her, I can teach her stuff too. Just like how Kikyo Onee-chan taught me" Kaede yelled. She would chase off anyone who looked at Miyuki funny, she would babysit and watch over her when Kikyo and InuYasha had to hunt or travel for a mission. Playing with her, keeping her company and acting as a mentor to her. She knew Miyuki would always rely on her, so she had to be the best role model she could be.
InuYasha chuckled, but it was endearing to watch and something he wished he had known growing up. If Sesshoumaru had acted the same way towards him growing up. But Kaede was right, she was protective of her big sister, more so of her niece, she would fight hell or high water to keep Miyuki safe. Teaching her all she could as a priestess, learning from each other, meaning Miyuki would never be alone. Kikyo smiled, stroking Miyuki's hair affectionately, her daughter easing into her touch. Kaede had always admired her and seen her as a role model, though stubborn and bad at speaking her mind at times she cared deeply. She would fight to protect her niece and help guide her along her path.
Sesshoumaru sniffed the air, Miyuki had been nearby again, exploring her parents territory. Exploring the woods with a newfound curiosity of the world around her, her parents were either foolish or remained nearby at all times. Letting her out of their sight at such a young age when she was vulnerable. Her scent was indeed unusual as expected from someone of her breed, one he had never experienced before. The potent though weakened scent of her dog demon blood, but the human blood was different from average humans. Sweeter, less pungent, he supposed that was due to her mother's spiritual essence, causing a scent that would differ from half breeds. She was but a year old now and already showing strong signs of her heritage, her demonic power and enhanced senses would have already kicked in by now. Though he knew compared to himself or her grandfather she would never be able to compare. Though weaker than his own or his half brothers, her healing abilities would be faster than the average human but weaker than a full demon. Meaning InuYasha and his mate would need to keep a close eye on her, but also put him the position of babysitting her on occasion.
But she was yet to awaken her mother's powers, which he didn't doubt would blossom soon enough, which put at her at a stronger advantage than expected. She was the daughter of the second known strongest priestess currently living, the potent blood within her would be formidable someday. The methods of healing, archery, spiritual powers and barriers would possibly be stronger than her mothers if harnessed correctly. But more than that, in the future she would come of age to inherit a blade, much like himself and InuYasha had after their fathers passing when they came of age. InuYasha had his fang which he had donated to forge the blade, making it stronger than the fang of a hanyou, he didn't doubt InuYasha would somehow forge the demonic essence of the blade and his mates spiritual power into the blade. But it also put Miyuki in danger of being effected by the demonic essence of the blade and her own power if she couldn't control it.
"Can you smell her milord? That weakling excuse for a half breed? The daughter of your brother?" Jaken asked, he wondered why they had come to this small village. He knew lord Sesshoumaru hated his brother, so he would want nothing to do with his sister in law and niece. How InuYasha could have born a child with a human, a priestess of all people was beyond him.
Sesshoumaru glared at Jaken, he didn't need to hear his incessant drabble, he was fully aware of her location. Jaken didn't speak for him, nor of what he was feeling, merely assuming. Miyuki wasn't a half breed, she was a quarter breed, an even rarer case of demon. Some Hanyou had been known to reproduce with other demons, the rare kind who accepted them or somehow fell for in love. Creating a quarter human, a hybrid of weakened human blood and mostly demon blood. Though they too had nights of losing their demon blood it happened once a year, compared to the monthly cycle of Hanyou. But quarter humans were less common, due to demons long history with hating humans and being their enemy. Though half breeds mating with humans was more common due to them blending in better with humans. But Miyuki was a quarter demon, a weakened sliver of demon blood polluted by human blood, what she would be capable of was still unknown, but it intrigued him. If she would live up to the expectations of their family line, he would have to visit her in the future.
The dawn rose over the sleepy village, a new day had arose and the night had once again surpassed, the inky blue sky blanketed in silver stars began to fade. The orangey, yellow-red hues of sunrise began to stain the darkened sky, the sound of the morning chorus erupting in the distance. The sun hiding behind the trees as it descended upon the village. Kikyo lay peacefully in bed, her arm wrapped around her daughter, holding her close as she dreamed. Her hair splayed across the pillow and futon, her dark lashes tickling her cheeks. InuYasha lay close to his mate, holding her protectively, his nose nuzzled in her air, protecting them both. Afraid that if he let them go he would lose them, opening his eyes to find this sweet dream was a lie. Miyuki lay nuzzled against her mother's chest, protected and safe, much like when she was a babe. Kaede snored away in her bed, opposite the couple.
A figure descended through the sleepy village, taking in the scent of the villagers, their cattle and belongings. How InuYasha could tolerate the scent of this place was beyond him, either he had merely adjusted or his sense of smell was damaged. His presence unknown, his footsteps light. if he so wished he could destroy the whole village in one swoop. They would never see him coming, their defences pitiful, no match for his power. Sensing the demonic aura of his brother, his niece, and the potent spiritual aura of his sister in law.
InuYasha sniffed the air, his ears pricking in alert and his golden eyes snapped open darkening with primal rage, how dare he. He was here, despite InuYasha's warning when he claimed one of his fangs he hadn't heeded his advice. Had he come to fight again? He growled lowly, he slowly climbed from the warmth of the bed, why had he come to the village? They had no defences capable of fighting against him, they were at his mercy. He wouldn't let the home he had made for himself, the people who had accepted him become involved in Sesshoumaru's schemes.
InuYasha walked out from the hut, he could smell him already, now armed with the Tetsuigha, he was more than capable of putting up a fight with his brother. "Sesshoumaru" InuYasha growled. He had better make this worth his while before he made another cut on that pretty face of his. He underestimated what he was capable of in order to protect his family, not that Sesshoumaru would ever understand. He only ever looked out for himself.
Sesshoumaru stared at his half brother coldly, this was his chosen home? A small decrepit village surrounded by humans? Surely he could have chosen a castle or somewhere abandoned and driven out humans to claim as his own? Though the spiritual power of the priestess was indeed strong, able to sense her vibrations from the village's border and beyond, it wasn't enough to faze a DaiYokai lord like himself. But he was impressed by InuYasha's choice in mate, she was indeed powerful. But that wasn't why he had come here, though he would be introduced to his sister in law. "Is she here?" Sesshoumaru questioned, he wished to see the woman InuYasha mated with, who had continued their family line, as well as the offspring they had forged to whom he called niece.
InuYasha growled "You ain't laying a hand on Kikyo or Miyuki" he snapped, he knew Sesshoumaru's schemes and cruelty. The way he had treated him growing up, he knew he would act the same towards Miyuki. Kikyo was his wife, his first love and the first person to accept him. Miyuki was born of that love and meant the world to him. Sesshoumaru would happily rip that happiness away from him at any given chance just to tear him down. He had his reasons not to trust Sesshoumaru.
Jaken huffed "Such disrespect from a half breed! Lord Sesshoumaru came all this way!..." Jaken huffed, InuYasha could never respect his older brother, he always insulted him. They had traveled far, gathering tales of his location and what had occurred in his absence. Lord Sesshoumaru ought to have nothing to do with him but he still communicated with him. He had honoured him with his presence of his chosen bride and this was his reaction, how dare he show such impudence.
Sesshoumaru kicked the imp, instantly silencing him, tired of his voice. "I merely wish to observe the humans which weakened you and chose to subdue you here. Our family line has been continued due to the priestess who enchanted your heart" Sesshoumaru questioned. All of his choices had been out of good will, to see what InuYasha would choose. InuYasha's heart had been swayed for a human like their father, his human blood causing him to fall for a priestess. So strong was this love that he had chosen to mate with the enemy, someone who killed demons for a living. But instead of intruding on his life or trying to change his mind, he had allowed InuYasha to make his own choices, as he seemed content. He had willingly handed over a fang to be forged into a sword, he had tolerated InuYasha's disrespect upon visiting the village. Now he had come of his own will out of curiosity to see the child. His demands had not been rude, nor had he harmed anyone, InuYasha was merely overreacting. All he wished was to meet the family that now carried his name.
InuYasha growled, though he wanted Sesshoumaru to leave and never show his face again, he knew disobeying him wouldn't be a good idea. The risks were too high and casualties would be unavoidable. He had come to visit his sister's in law and niece, but he couldn't understand why, Sesshoumaru hated humans. He could already predict how this was going to go, no doubt Sesshoumaru would mock Miyuki as he had towards him growing up. If he so much as looked at her the wrong way he'd knock his lights out.
InuYasha knelt beside the bed where his mate and child slept, they looked so peaceful, so happy, he could watch them like this forever, he sighed. He didn't want to have to do this, but Sesshoumaru wouldn't leave otherwise, he'd keep coming back and he wouldn't be kind about it. When Sesshoumaru became interested in something, when he was scheming something, he would never leave it alone until he was satisfied with the outcome. He doubted that guy would ever mate with someone or find a family of his own someday. He placed his hand on his mate's shoulder, gently shaking her awake "Kikyo, wake up" he whispered softly.
Kikyo stirred, her eyes hazy from sleep, her brown eyes gleaming in the dark, the demonic aura had grown stronger, different than InuYasha and their daughter. She sat up instantly, she had never felt such a potent demonic aura before, her whole body vibrating. Even with all the demons, she had faced in her lifetime, it had felt nothing like this. She felt it to her very core, sending waves of chills down her spine, fear in its most primal form. Her body screaming danger, to run as far away as possible and never look back. She gazed at InuYasha sharply "InuYasha, what… that demonic aura…" she babbled, desperate for an explanation.
InuYasha frowned, hoping she would understand and trust him that he was making the right choice. "My brother is here, he… he wants to see you, and Miyuki" he pressed. Until now she had heard nothing but stories, tales and memories of InuYasha's childhood and the brief encounters they had shared. His brother in person was a different experience entirely. Kikyo froze, understanding now why InuYasha had woken her and why he seemed so serious. InuYasha's older brother, a Daiyokai was in the village? Aware of the danger they faced and what could occur if he wished to enact harm on the village. She had heard the tale of them but she had never met one, what did he want with her or her daughter? Why involve himself in the matters of a sibling he resented and a niece who's existence he had only become aware of recently? Did he mean to kill them? Given his hatred of humans, it was the only rational answer. She scooped Miyuki into her arms protectively, InuYasha waking Kaede.
Kaede, InuYasha, Kikyo and Miyuki stood outside the hut in silent rage, the family gathered together to protect their home. Kikyo could wield her spiritual aura without her arrows, they merely acted as a conductor to focus them. InuYasha glaring down at Sesshoumaru with resentment, Kikyo stood beside him, holding Miyuki protectively to her chest. Her brown eyes were cold, hardened and unwavering, she had never shown fear to an enemy before, nor would she show it to Sesshoumaru. Kaede stood beside InuYasha frowning at Sesshoumaru and pulling faces at Jaken, to which the smaller imp demon complained bitterly.
Sesshoumaru stared at the family curiously, taking in the humans with whom he now shared familial relations. Wondering why InuYasha had developed a fondness for such odd creatures. The small child named Kaede, perhaps seven years of age; she reminded him of InuYasha at that age, the same anger and stubbornness. She was in the presence of a god Yokai and yet she didn't waver or show fear, but she too carried spiritual power, though not as potent as her older sister. She would become powerful someday too. He was amused by her willpower and courage, she wasn't like other humans. It seemed she and InuYasha shared a common spirit which is why she stood so close to him.
The woman, Kikyo, the human with whom InuYasha had chosen to spend his life with. Marking her as his mate and lover, she was indeed a beautiful woman. She resembled Izayoi in many ways, her intense brown eyes, sharp lashes and defined facial features. Her pale skin, the long black hair, silky soft and perfectly shaped to her features, unusual for a priestess. The scent of herbal medicine lingered on her, much like lady Izayoi, she had a delicate and yet alluring scent to her, one that was soothing to the soul. But her aura was indeed intimidating for a human, power radiating from her in waves. She was holding back on her full power, but if she so wished she could indeed do harm to him. No wonder she was a respected priestess, she had earned her reputation for good reason, worthy of protecting the jewel until its destruction. Then there was his niece, the person he came here to see, the sleeping child in her arms, the offspring who would inherit his fang as a blade someday. She was smaller than he expected, sleeping soundly, having not sensed him yet despite being so close. She too greatly resembled her mother, but also her grandmother Izayoi.
Miyuki stirred, once again awoken from sleep by something unknown, the cold air against her skin. She mumbled sleepily before her eyes opened, attempting to cuddle her parents for warmth or retain the nearby robe used as a blanket. A frightening demonic aura hit her immediately, her instincts hit red alert, a smell and feeling that greatly differed from her papa. She looked around curiously, trying to locate where the presence was coming from and if her family was in danger. She shivered when she saw him, a man who resembled her papa, but scarier. While her fathers eyes were kind, patient and encouraging, this man had judgemental, apathetic and bored eyes. Like he was watching her for entertainment, waiting for her to do something amusing or make a mistake. The same silver hair, golden eyes but he wore armour, he had a colder expression, who was this man?
"She's awake at last" Sesshoumaru huffed, wondering how long she would sleep in his presence. Wondering if he would have to ask his brother or sister in law to wake her too. But she had used her powers already without realising it, had she been able to sense him already? Her spiritual power was indeed potent. Now they could finally converse and have their introductions. He didn't have time to waste, many necessary quests and duties to be attended to, protecting his domain and driving out problematic demons. Increasing his power and understanding his fathers intentions for him.
Miyuki clung to her mother tightly "Mama…. Is he…. Is he one of the scary ones? Does he want to hurt us?" she mumbled. Was this one of the demons her mother warned her of? One of the demons she would be expected to fight when she was older? She didn't think she was strong enough to take on this man, she was scared.
Sesshoumaru blinked, relieved she was aware of who he was to some extent, that she had knowledge on demons. Meaning she wasn't as ignorant as he had assumed she would be. Meaning he could avoid pointless explanations, making this easier for him. So her mother had told her of demons already, possibly her heritage, being a priestess she would know many forms of demon. He was starting to like Kikyo already, she knew her role as a priestess but also a mother. Educating her daughter of what she could expect in her life as she grew older.
Kikyo tightened her grip on Miyuki, she could feel her daughter trembling, as was she. But she couldn't show fear or Miyuki would sense it and become upset. She needed to protect her and explain who this man was. What was Sesshoumaru plotting? Understanding now why InuYasha wasn't on good terms with his brother. She felt as though his eyes could see right through her, testing her resolve. "Miyuki, do you remember we told you the story, about your grandpa and grandma? About how papa was born?" she stammered. Trying to keep her voice steady despite the fear in her heart. Miyuki nodded, but this man didn't have the same feeling as papa.
Kikyo swallowed, they were uncovering more family history than she had expected to "Well your grandpa before he met your grandma, he was married to another demon. Together they had a child, this man, he is your papa's half brother, your uncle" she pressed shakily. Lady InuKimi was the first wife of Lord Touga, whom he had been married to centuries before and birthed Sesshoumaru. Sesshoumaru resented his stepmother due to her playing a role in his fathers death, InuYasha being indirectly involved in his parents divorce. Their relationship was one of bitter tolerance but no affection. She didn't know why he was so interested in meeting her or Miyuki given his hatred of humans. Miyuki's eyes widened, the reality of the situation hitting her hard. She stared back at Sesshoumaru, this man was her uncle? She was related to the man in front of her. He did look like her papa, but she looked nothing like him.
"I see you've already told her of her family heritage" Sesshoumaru hummed, pleased that she wasn't ignorant, they had started her young. Meaning she would ask less questions of him as she grew older which he would rather avoid. So she knew her grandfather was dead, as was her grandmother. She knew of InuYasha's birth and identity as a half breed. All of the shame and guilt that came with it.
"She knows Sesshoumaru, she is fully aware of her father being a Hanyo, his dark moon night, her grandparents and all the powers she has inherited from him. Even what may occur should she lose control to her demon blood" Kikyo warned. Should he attempt to bully her it wouldn't work, all her weaknesses she was aware of. If Sesshoumaru had bullied InuYasha to the degree he had growing up, she wouldn't allow him to treat his niece the same way. If Sesshoumaru wished to be part of her life she would allow it, but she would always protect Miyuki from his cruelty no matter what form it came in.
Sesshoumaru raised an eyebrow, she showed no fear, she spoke her mind, he had never seen a human show such bravery. She was fully aware of his power, position, influence and capabilities in comparison to her husband. Yet she glared him down, confronted him and spoke her mind freely. "How dare you speak in such a disrespectful manner to lord Sesshoumaru" Jaken snapped, breaking the silence.
"Oi, don't you insult Kikyo Onee-chan, you bug-eyed toad!" Kaede snapped. InuYasha bit back a smirk, Jaken held no chance against Kaede, he'd met his match.
"You can sense it can't you Sesshoumaru, even before you showed up here you can feel Kikyo's essence. You wouldn't look so wary if you didn't" InuYasha mocked. Sesshoumaru was no fool, he could sense the power of all living beings, demons, humans and even priestesses. He was observing her, seeing what she was capable of. He wasn't playing risks and he was waiting to see what she would do. This was the power of his mate, the power their daughter would inherit, he was being exposed to it. Kikyo raised an eyebrow, Sesshoumaru was scared of her? What a thought, she would enjoy that feeling. Perhaps teasing him about it should they ever cross paths again. "Miyuki has that power in her, she has the power to be even stronger than Kikyo someday. The first priestess of human and demon heritage. That power may even stop her from turning rabid to her demon blood if she learned to control it" InuYasha pressed.
"You lie? That can't be possible!" Jake questioned, InuYasha was basing these theories on pure assumption, half breeds were incapable of controlling the pure power of their demon blood. Their powers couldn't be handled by their weak human hearts. No half breed or hybrid could understand that kind of potency, their bodies weren't capable of handling it. Such as when InuYasha couldn't recognize friend from foe when he turned full demon.
Sesshoumaru hummed, he knew InuYasha could be a fool but when he used his intellect correctly, he was often correct in his assumptions. He had full faith in his daughter and his mate, the gaze of resolve. Though it was a risk, he knew now why InuYasha sought a blade to be made for Miyuki, to protect her just as the Tetsuigha protected him. However, Kikyo's potent spiritual power was feared by many demons, many avoided this village due to it, unable to pass through her wards and barriers. Though a mere unpleasant burning for him, for a lower demon it would kill them, if Miyuki did harness this power it could channel her demonic aura, stopping her from ever going rabid like her father or another quarter demon. Sesshoumaru pointed at Miyuki, beckoning her to approach him. Miyuki shifted, her mother holding her closer and InuYasha preparing to grab Tetsuigha, like hell, he was going to hand her over. If he planned to attempt kidnapping or such, he wasn't going to go down without a fight. Miyuki hesitated, nodding at her mother who knelt warily and let her daughter climb to the ground. Miyuki approached her uncle, walking towards the elder demon cautiously, her heart hammering wildly in her chest.
Sesshoumaru took her in, acknowledging the similar traits between them and how much she looked like her parents. She had the same silky black hair as her parents, but she greatly resembled Izayoi too, her fringe resembling her father and framing her face, yet styled into a hime cut like her mother. Bound back into a ponytail, ironically just as her grandfather had done. Her complexion was pale like his own, not tanned like InuYasha, meaning she had inherited demonic complexion, but also her mothers pale complexion. Giving her an inhuman look that seemed fitting. Her eyes were an unusual colour, one he had never seen in any demon or half breed, the gold of her grandfather, InuYasha and his own was prominent, causing a gleam in her eyes. But the brown of her grandmother, Kikyo and her father had also become dominant, accumulating into golden brown eyes, like a tiger eye stone. He was surprised to find himself admitting to himself that her eyes were pretty for a quarter demon. She had fangs and claws like her demon heritage, though nowhere near as strong as his own. Wondering what other traits would become stronger as she got older.
"She looks like Izayoi, doesn't she milord?" Jaken blurted out, he hadn't met the woman many times before, but he had seen pictures and remembered her appearance greatly. The girl before him was like looking in a mirror, her fathers blood was indeed potent. InuYasha smirked, that must have been a dagger for Sesshoumaru, he knew how much he had resented Izayoi and loved to insult him about it any chance he got. Now the tables had been turned, his firstborn and Sesshoumaru's niece resembling his mother. Now that he realised it himself, he only felt prouder.
Miyuki blushed, her cheeks darkening with embarrassment, like she was being placed on a pedestal as a spectacle to be stared at. Memories of the villagers judgmental gaze flooding her memory in flashes. She didn't like this feeling of being stared at, wishing to run and hide behind her fathers legs for protection. Did she look funny? Did she smell odd? She bowed her head shyly, unknowingly showing respect to her uncle, knowing that if she spoke up she may say something rude or upset him. She looked messy and dishevelled for she had been asleep, she was wearing her bed clothes instead of the robe of the fire rat her father had made for her. She loved her family, perhaps maybe even her uncle after getting to know him, but she got the feeling he didn't like her very much. "N…. nice to meet you Sesshoumaru Ouji-chan" she mumbled softly.
Kaede bit back a laugh, wondering how Sesshoumaru would feel being called uncle by such a small child, he must have been burning with shame. Miyuki had been raised with the best of manners by both her parents, which she assumed Sesshoumaru wouldn't expect from a Half Breed and a priestess. Jaken was impressed but still angry, so young and yet she showed respect to her uncle, as she should.
Sesshoumaru hummed, she spoke in a tone of voice that didn't match her age, which was odd but then she wasn't like other children. She had learned manners from her mother indeed, something he was relieved of, for a year old she was very intelligent. Afraid and aware of her appearance and hiding her face from him. But the fact she was willing to risk herself for her family showed she loved them, as well as her courage, though as expected for someone her age, she was bashful and reliant on her parents. But Jaken was correct, she did resemble Izayoi but also Kikyo, wondering if she would show traits of her grandfather as she got older. He didn't dislike her as much as he thought she would, but he hoped she didn't make a habit of trying to seek him out. He sighed, he had gotten his fill of their presence for now, if he saw fit he now recognised the scent of Kikyo, her sister and his niece. meaning he could find them purely based on that from now onward.
"Don't let that theory of yours be a risk InuYasha, if you think she is strong enough to control our father's blood, be prepared for the consequences. No priestess has ever had demon blood before, nor will she be welcomed in the demon world. I don't wish to become entangled with the affairs caused by any mistakes" he warned. He didn't wish to make a habit of babysitting his niece as well as his brother, he couldn't be responsible for them on a regular basis. InuYasha had lost control more times than he could count, losing a fragment of his humanity and sanity as a consequence. Though he'd become stronger and better at controlling it, the risk was always there. Checking in to make sure that he was still stable. But his demon blood was stronger than his nieces, meaning he had more potency and better control. Miyuki was a ¾ human, her human blood was more potent, while her demon blood was weaker, the risk of turning rabid like him was always a threat. The danger she was capable of wasn't worth thinking about, but if she could somehow control it due to her mother's powers, that would be a rare discovery. But she wouldn't be welcomed or accepted among humans, nor would demons accept her, being her uncle any mistakes, incidents or rumours would feedback to him. Miyuki losing control would mean she would attack humans and demons at random, without any conscious thought. She could even turn on her family by accident in a worse case scenario. He didn't wish to observe a time when InuYasha or Kikyo would have to snap her out of it, or to do so himself. But the suggestion that she could balance out her rabid bloodlust using her mothers powers seemed curious, but he wished to test if that was true.
Miyuki whimpered, was he calling her a monster already even though she had just met him? Did he expect her to fail just like everyone else? Did he hate her? He said he didn't want her causing trouble for him, meaning she was a burden in his eyes. Her eyes filled with tears but she held them back bravely, biting her lip so hard her fangs dug into her lip.
"She's not like any priestess ever born before! She's special, she'll have me to train her, not just Kikyo Onee-chan and InuYasha Onii-chan. And don't worry, we'll make sure she never has to see a jerk like you unless necessary" Kaede snapped. She could see Miyuki trying her hardest not to cry in front of him despite the harshness of her words. How dare he come all this way just to insult Miyuki after just meeting her. They would prove she was just as strong as anyone, that she didn't need him to prove who she was.
Kikyo glared at Sesshoumaru, as much as she hated how cold he was being, she knew they came from a place of experience. His words were cruel but also held truth, one mistake on their behalf could backfire in the worst way. "The theory is all mine, as a priestess, I never expected to walk this path but I am forever glad I chose to. Fate brought myself and InuYasha together, it gave us Miyuki. But I trust in her destiny as a priestess, and I'm sure she'll be prepared to cross paths with you as she gets older" she warned. She loved InuYasha more than she had anyone before, she knew from the moment they met their destinies would forever be intertwined. The purest form of love, first love, she was learning through him to see the world as he did. Just as he was learning to see the world through her eyes, two lonely souls who were drawn to each other. Miyuki would be her progeny, the next future priestess, protecting villagers, people and perhaps even other half breeds. But Sesshoumaru would always be part of her life as would herself and InuYasha, as much as Sesshoumaru may detest and attempt to avoid that status. She would be prepared for when that day came to pass, but she understood what she meant, she had already witnessed it. The quarter demon isolated from society because of her parentage.
Sesshoumaru smirked softly, he now understood why InuYasha fell for this woman, chose her as his mate. She harboured immense love for his half brother, pure, unwavering and strong. She showed no fear despite being in the presence of a DaiYokai who could pose a threat to her and her family. Willing to put herself in harms way as a shield without hesitation to do what was right. InuYasha deeply admired her as did her younger sister, completely incorruptible and selfless, capable of showing strong maternal instincts to protect her child. As well as fearlessly showing threats to those who meant InuYasha, her sister and child harm. Sesshoumaru turned, walking away into the distance, he had nothing more to say and gained the information he needed, he approved of the chosen mate InuYasha had married. But more so, he was intrigued by Miyuki, though he resemblance to both her parents and Izayoi angered him deeply, a memory of the woman responsible for his father perishing. She showed respect towards him, aware of her status, perhaps he would learn more about her in the future.
