Myoga finally meets Miyuki for the first time 😆. I was really eager to somehow place him in the story and how he'd react to InuYasha becoming a father.

I've also introduced InuKimi, given she is Miyuki's biological paternal grandma. I see her as being emotionally distant, reserved and indifferent towards InuYasha and Miyuki. Never actually cruel or bitter towards them but due to her dislike of humans and Izayoi, she has some tension with them. But still has some care and affection for them as family, acting as a guardian.

Miyuki, InuYasha, Kaede and Kikyo all sat within the forest domains around the village, it was a brief peaceful respite than having to worry about fighting demons, protecting the village, worrying about intruders and such. They could simply be a family, simply enjoying the moment and forgetting their troubles. The fact that Kikyo was a priestess didn't change with her embracing of motherhood, she still had to fight demons, protect the village, exorcise wicked spirits and was called to other villages to help. Balancing raising her daughter atop following her destined path. InuYasha stayed home to protect Miyuki and take care of her, keeping her occupied while he continued his routines around the village. However, in the case that he needed to join Kikyo in battle or the village was attacked, she hid with other villagers or became his little helper. Miyuki still played with the local children, at least the ones willing to be kind towards her. Playing games, collecting odd treasures when she wasn't being helpful to her parents.

Kaede was meditating near a waterfall, channeling her spiritual essence and focusing her Ki. She was intent on becoming the best priestess she could be, knowing how many people would rely on her for guidance. Taking all of the lessons her elder sister had taught her, as well as the priest mentoring her. She had been given temporary leave from the temple to visit home for a brief period to see her family. Knowing she was homesick and wanting to share her improvements with her loved ones. Though she would return home shortly after to continue her training, though she had to wear white robes for the remainder of her training. She had changed so much, even Kikyo noticed her spiritual essence had become more potent and she had honed in on her instincts. Her archery had become keener and she was more focused, though she had a long way to go. Miyuki was delighted to see her aunt again, having missed her during her absence, throwing herself happily into her embrace and telling her all sorts of stories. Kaede commenting on how big she had gotten and how cute she was, showering her in affection. Kikyo and InuYasha welcomed her home happily.

"It's nice for us all to be back together again, Miyuki's had a lot to deal with, seeing your human form for the first time, Kaede moving away, her uncle introducing himself to her, Tsubaki's attack. She's handled it so well" Kikyo reflected. It didn't feel the same when they weren't all together, like part of their inner circle was missing, they were stronger together. Miyuki needed those closest to her, mentoring her as she grew up. Kikyo realised the change in herself, the altering of her destiny and prospects, realising how her actions effected her loved ones. For the longest time it had been herself and Kaede together after their parents demise, the two of them taking on the world, quiet and content. Until InuYasha and the jewel came into their lives and complicated matters, making her deviate from her previous hostility towards demons. Removing the corruption and temptation the jewel brought into the world, making it more peaceful for everyone. Now things had resolved and they were happier than ever.

InuYasha nodded, growing up he'd wished for a family like this one, safe, secure, protected and loyal. Watching Kaede silently meditate and reflect, Miyuki splashing around in the water nearby, enjoying a swim and trying to catch fish and butterflies. His daughter had a happier childhood than himself, but it came with its own onset of issues, torn on her sense of belonging and identity. Kikyo and himself would always love and support Miyuki come hell or high water, but the world wouldn't see her that way. No doubt his stepmother InuKimi had heard of the birth of her first grandchild, it was only a matter of time before she made her presence known. Word travelled fast in the demon world and Sesshoumaru was bound to have informed her at some point. She already harboured resentment towards his mother after the separation of herself and Touga centuries ago, still harbouring affection for him. Though she had never mistreated him nor shown him evident cruelty, she still hadn't fully accepted him as family. Though she was kinder to him than Sesshoumaru had been, making sure he was treated fairly, that nobody ever disrespected him. Miyuki was InuKimi's first granddaughter, a quarter demon born of a DaiYokai Hanyou and a priestess, she was a rarity among the demon realm. Most Hanyou chose to either live among humans and allow their demon blood to slowly die out. Some succumbed to the pressure of the demon world and chose to become full blooded demons to finally be accepted. Miyuki was the first healthy quarter demon to be born to loving parents by a human mother. Though she hadn't made herself known, she would have heard about it, dissipating any rumours or gossip that would tarnish their reputation. He wondered if they would ever expect a visit from her too.

"InuYasha?" Kikyo questioned, his eyes were cold and reflective, his mind was far away and he was lost in thought. She'd seen that loneliness before when they first met, when he reflected upon becoming a full human, when he realised he was falling in love with her. Some of the wounds embedded in his heart would never fully heal and she accepted that, something was troubling him.

InuYasha gazed at her, an expression of worry forming on her face, he hated knowing that Kikyo was involved in all of this. She'd suffered enough grief and because of her marriage to him, she would face an endless barrage of torment from his enemies. Accusations and gossip due to marrying him, due to being a human. He sighed "I... I just... now that Sesshoumaru's made himself known, lingering around the village and watching over Miyuki, I worry InuKimi will make herself known soon too" he pressed. He would know no peace, being the bastard of his father, being the child of his second wife, he wasn't recognised in the demon world.

"InuKimi?" Kikyo questioned, she knew InuYasha didn't speak of his family often, having been raised among them briefly. But this woman had clearly been part of his formative years.

"My stepmother, she's the first wife and ex official partner of my late father, she's Sesshoumaru's mother. Legally and biologically she's Miyuki's half grandmother" he explained. She and Touga were married for generations, bearing him his first heir Sesshoumaru who was expected to carry on his legacy. She had been a strong mentor figure to Sesshoumaru, stern, harsh, mentoring but doting. Upon Touga falling in love with Izayoi, he realised he no longer loved InuKimi, having slowly grown distant from her over their marriage. They ended their union amicably, but InuKimi still had some bitterness at her husband leaving her for a human woman.

Kikyo's eyes widened, Sesshoumaru's mother was still alive? She knew Yokai, especially DaiYokai could live for Millennia, but she had to be ancient. She had no idea of what to expect of this woman, given she was her mother in law, what their relationship would be like. However, for the sake of her family she would meet an amicable medium, she took a deep breath. "Will she be of harm to Miyuki? I know Sesshoumaru has proven himself to care for her in his own way. But his mother is a different matter entirely, she may hate humans and demon hybrid children as much as other Yokai" she pressed. She wouldn't allow anyone, regardless of whether or not they were family, near her daughter if they would prove to be of harm to her. She would do anything to protect her child, as much as any mother would, including fighting her mother in law. She may not have had as great a power as a fully blooded DaiYokai, she wasn't as potent as the likes of Midoriko, but she had been willing to fight Sesshoumaru, as she would his mother.

InuYasha shook his head "She may not be as lovey dovey about half breeds, but she has honour and more morality than Sesshoumaru. She allowed me to reside in the palace until I was old enough to try raising myself for a period. She made sure I ate, had space when needed and taught me manners. She made sure Sesshoumaru didn't bully me. She showed me some semblance of kindness given I was her late husbands bastard..." he reflected. She would never attack him or Miyuki blindly, she would never kill them nor make herself their enemy. She respected them as members of the family, treating them with respect. However, he understood her pain, conflict and frustration at her husbands second child being a memory of the woman who stole her husband from her. His mother and Touga were never legally married under demon law, meaning their marriage was illegitimate. Though InuYasha was a prince/lord as much as Sesshoumaru due to his mother also being a princess, due to his half breed nature and human mother he was never perceived as much. Though Miyuki was also a princess through himself, she would be disregarded too.

Kikyo approached solemnly, cupping InuYasha's face to gaze into his eyes tenderly "InuYasha, you mean more to me than anything, Miyuki is the best thing that ever happened to us. I can't erase the hardships you endured before we met, and I only wish I could alleviate your sorrows. But I hope you know how precious you are to me, how happy I am to have become your mate, to have bore your child. I can't imagine a happier life than the one we share" she soothed. InuYasha had taught her what it meant to love someone, taught her that she could fall for a demon. Through him she learned that humans and demons could live in harmony, could form meaningful bonds and even learn from one another. InuYasha made her want to be a better person, made her realise how blind and foolish she had once been. Her heart ached in pain knowing the lonely childhood he had endured as a small child. But she would shower him in the love he had yearned for when he was small.

InuYasha softened, nuzzling against her hand fondly, his eyes warm. He hadn't felt this safe with anyone since his mothers passing, with Kikyo she saw his darkness, saw his trauma and all the hurt he'd endured. He'd become so fond of Kikyo, his first love and felt nothing but pure adoration for her. Settling down with her, forming a life with her, having a child with her, this was everything he'd ever wanted. A place of belonging, a place of comfort and peace. He'd never imagined in his life he could be as happy and content as he was with her "Me too" he smiled.

Suddenly, Miyuki shrieked in panic, a high pitched wail escaping her lips as she fell into the water, her eyes widened in panic. Clawing at her neck as she tried to remove something from her skin, using her small claws to dig against something, gripping her neck as she clutched it. "EEEEEEK! Get it off, get it off me! Papa! Mama!" she whimpered.

InuYasha leapt towards his daughter in a heartbeat, he could smell no blood, he could see no wounds but she was evidently in distress. Had something spooked her perhaps? Was it a bug? Was she cut? Did she get bitten by a fish? Hurt by a shell? Had Tsubaki sent a curse on her? Endless worries forming in his mind as he tried to find a conclusion, he picked her up, scooping her into his arms as he held her close. She buried her nose into his hair, comforting herself as tears spilled down her cheeks. "Sssh, papa's here now, tell me where it hurts" he soothed.

"S...something... something on...on my... on my neck..." she whimpered tearfully, she could feel small teeth on her neck, something buried into her skin but she couldn't get it off. InuYasha blinked, processing her words as she realised what was causing her distress. Something on her neck? Small? Unseen to the human eye? His eyes darkened, anger filling him as he growled, it was only a matter of time before he showed up. He'd bided his time until now but he couldn't keep running forever. The person who was left in charge of watching over him as a pup. That ran away every time danger occurred, never facing enemies head on and watching from afar until it all concluded. He tugged on the collar of Miyuki's kimono slightly, revealing her neck, his eyes scanning the skin until he found it. Gently tapping her neck, squishing something, pulling off a small bug from her neck.

Kaede leapt from the waterfall, rushing towards them, she had sensed nothing demonic and seen no enemies but something had upset Miyuki. After previous attacks on her they needed to be cautious "Is she ok? Is she hurt? What happened?" she pestered frantically.

Kikyo hurried towards her husband, caught off guard by Miyuki's panic and InuYasha's abrupt bolting to her side "I sense no demonic aura, did she hurt herself on a rock?" Kikyo asked. She could see no visible wounds, she could see no bites, no scrapes, no bruising and no cuts. Had she slipped? Had she brushed against a fish? Stepped in water moss?

InuYasha huffed, it wasn't something human eyes could detect, not even those of a trained priest, monk or priestess, he was too small to be detected by human eyes "Nope, just a pest". He was a master of hiding, using his small stature to hide from enemies, he opened his hand, holding a small object between his fingers.

"Eeew! Is that a bug?" Kaede whined, a look of disgust forming on her face, no wonder Miyuki freaked.

The small bug came to life, as if summoned by the insult "How dare you! I may be small but I am a demon in my own right!" it protested.

Kikyo sensed the familiarity of InuYasha towards this small demon, meaning they had met before from what she could assume. It had a pathetically weak demonic aura, one she never would have been able to sense. It seemed demons came in all shapes and sizes "InuYasha? Do you know this... creature?" Kikyo questioned. Miyuki nuzzled against her fathers chest, still whimpering as she peered at the small creature that bit her.

Myoga jumped from InuYasha's grip, leaping onto his palm quickly "I come all this way to bear my greetings and this is how I'm welcomed!" he snapped.

InuYasha glared at the small demon, he had no right to be all huffy after the introduction he'd made, distressing his daughter. He may have been his fathers vassal, infamously cowardly and running away during any confrontation, only reappearing once the battle was over. But he had proven useful on occasion, having information on other demons and aiding him during his human nights. As well as aiding him when he was attacked by a poisonous demon. He'd been absent during large parts of his life, running away and hiding from danger when InuYasha needed him most. Now had introduced himself once he was married and had a family of his own. "Myoga, long time no see" he scoffed.

"Myoga?" Kikyo questioned, so this creature had a name after all, but what was his relationship with her husband?

Myoga turned towards Kikyo, so this was the lovely priestess his lordship had married, she was indeed beautiful, her legacy spreading quickly among the demon realm. This was the woman whom had stolen his masters heart, leading to him mating with her and bearing the next generation of InuDaiYokai. He was blessed to have found such a wonderful woman to be his bride, his master had finally found peace. He had hoped to meet her before she had become pregnant but he had other pressing matters, the timing had never been right. "Greetings milady, my name is Myoga, I was the vassal of lord InuYasha's father before his untimely passing. I was his guardian for a brief period during his adolescence until he came of age" he explained. InuYasha rolled his eyes impatiently, Myoga always made himself sound so important despite how utterly useless he was. "You must be Lady Kikyo, I've heard great tales of your potent spiritual essence, I must say the stories don't do you justice. Motherhood has only increased your potency, you wear motherhood well. I am pleased such a woman has come to love my master and give him a family" he praised. As InuYasha's vassal he would be expected to protect Lady Kikyo and their daughter during his absence, as well as mentoring their daughter as she matured. He would be part of their lives for the foreseeable future.

Kikyo smiled warmly, this small demon was at least respectful which she was grateful of, but she wondered what he had done to anger her husband so much "Thank you, it's a pleasure to meet you". It seemed all of Lord Touga's previous allies had become aware of their marriage and daughter, meaning more of them would become present in their lives.

InuYasha softened, he was at least behaving himself around Kikyo and being respectful, he'd expected a lot worse from him.

"I wonder if your blood is as sweet as my masters" he reflected, his father's blood had been rich, heavy and potent. Lady Izayoi had sweet, delicate but delicious blood. InuYasha had a combination of both, the richness of his demon blood, but the sweetness of his mother. He was curious of what Lady Kikyo's blood would taste like, as well as their daughter, he'd sampled many generations of InuYokai blood. InuYasha irked, shooting a warning glare at Myoga who cowered, Myoga was constantly sneaking around using him as a walking snack. He didn't doubt he'd try the same towards Kikyo and his daughter. The only reason he never dared do the same towards Sesshoumaru was he feared for his life. Myoga coughed nervously "I came to meet my new milady, the daughter of Lord InuYasha, Lord Touga's granddaughter" he asked.

InuYasha frowned, Myoga would always make excuses when he was caught getting into trouble "You mean the toddler whose blood you had to sample upon arrival?" he scolded. He'd scared her, catching her off guard and making her panic she'd been attacked by something. It would be a while before she settled again. Myoga pouted, but he accepted being scolded by his master as to not worsen an argument. Miyuki lifted her head from her fathers chest tearfully, cautiously watching the small flea demon in her fathers hand, her brownish golden eyes watching him curiously. InuYasha averted his gaze to Miyuki, softening his tone as to not make her cry all over again. He knew she was scared but she was safe now "Miyuki, this is Grandpa Myoga, he's a cowardly flea demon, he likes to sample blood but he's a good guy at least. Just let papa know if he annoys you too much" he warned. He was otherwise harmless to her, but he was a sneaky little beast and she needed to watch out for him.

Miyuki nodded, wiping her eyes as she listened closely "Yes papa"

Myoga whined, hearing his master insult him and treat him like a monster towards his daughter "How cruel". He wiped his small eyes before getting a closer look at Miyuki, taking in the next generation of his late masters lineage. She bore a strong resemblance to her late paternal grandparents, she was without a doubt the grandchild of his late master. The long straight black hair she inherited from her mother also strongly resembled her grandmother Izayoi, giving her an air of charisma and grace. Though her feline sharpened eyes mirrored Kikyo and InuYasha both. However, her eyes were an unusual colour indeed, the same demonic gold as both her father, uncle as well as both her Yokai grandparents, InuKimi and Touga. But her pigmentation of her eyes differed from the past generations, instead of being fully demonic gold, they were imbued with dark brown like her fathers human blood and Kikyo's. Giving them a tiger stone like appearance, unusual for the blood of a quarter demon. He had never seen any half breed or demon hybrid with such unusual eyes. She had fangs and claws like her father, but she was indeed a lovely child. He admired that her small kimono was made with strings of the fire rat, forming a cherry blossom patterned kimono. He could already sense her growing demonic aura, as well as her spiritual aura, he smiled in approval. Had he lived, he could imagine Lord Touga doting on his grandchild endlessly, praising his son, welcoming her with open arms. "She has both of your eyes Master InuYasha, though I must say she reminds me of your father too somewhat. I'm sure she'll grow into a powerful young woman someday, your parents would be proud" he praised

InuYasha softened, hearing that from Myoga of all people meant a lot, given how close he'd been to his father. He knew his mother would have adored her grandchild, showing her the same love he'd given her growing up. But his iconic father, the war wisened lord of the western lands, being a loving grandfather was hard to imagine as he'd never met the man. "She isn't too popular around the village, but some of the kids have been willing to play with her" he explained.

Myoga nodded, no matter they be a half breed, quarter breed, so long they had demon blood they would always be ostracised. "No matter how potent the demon lineage, so long as she isn't fully human, she won't be accepted. Humans and demon's have always had a natural hostility to one another" he sighed.

InuYasha sharpened his gaze accusingly, Myoga still hadn't answered one important question "So, what brings you here, aside from seeking a meal and sending praise for our firstborn?" InuYasha asked. Myoga never came unannounced, he always came harbouring some unpleasant news or rumours of battles, enemies or attacks. He must have heard something and he'd come to warn them so they weren't caught off guard.

Myoga shifted, his master had good reason to be concerned, he knew that InuYasha had a tense relationship with his older brother. The two often butting heads and never fully acknowledging the other. Sesshoumaru like many demons harboured bitterness towards humans and half breeds, a hatred that passed through generations. He'd always been at odds with his younger half brother, no doubt showing the same nature towards his niece and sister in law. "I'm aware that Lord Sesshoumaru has made himself known in the village since your daughters birth, I worried he may cause harm to her, due to your tense relationship" he asked.

Kikyo hummed, Myoga's suspicions were indeed correct and his assumptions mirrored her own. However, he had become a regular face in the village and no longer seen as a threat. However, they were always wary of his intentions "He has indeed become a regular visitor of the village, but he hasn't harmed her, unusual for Sesshoumaru I believe he's gone soft" she chuckled. Though he butted heads with InuYasha, he had at least acted respectful towards herself and even acted mentoring towards Miyuki.

"G.. Gone soft?" Myoga asked, such a thing couldn't be possible.

Kaede never believed it either, but it seemed Sesshoumaru wasn't the cold natured person he made himself out to be. It seemed he and InuYasha were equally as stubborn as the other. He couldn't admit he not only didn't hate his brother as much as he claimed to, but he also didn't dislike Kikyo or Miyuki as much as he insisted either. "Yeah, he protected her from Kikyo's rival and even babysits her on occasion, he even guarded the village when InuYasha Onii-chan turned human" Kaede pressed. Myoga stared in awe, this was unheard of and not at all expected, such a change in Sesshoumaru was never predicted, wondering what could have caused him to do such a thing?

"Is he talking about Sesshoumaru Ouji-chan?" Miyuki asked, he was always distant, rarely visited and never smiled much. He always seemed so gloomy and miserable, but he was secretly nice.

Myoga stared in awe, she so casually referred to him as such and hadn't been scolded? Sesshoumaru had to be going soft. He was inheriting his fathers pension for a curiosity towards humans. "Well, if Sesshomaru has accepted her that has to be a positive change in him, we can at least decrease our worries of that matter. However, I'm sure you're worried about her grandmother InuKimi" he stated. It meant they had less concern of him bullying his niece and would be a pivotal mentor to her as she got older. Sesshoumaru's influence as the next lord of the western lands meant he could ward off any attackers towards his brothers family. InuYasha nodded

"InuYasha explained to me that she's... old fashioned, her hostility and disregard for humans and hybrids like many of her kind" Kikyo explained. She couldn't speak a clear opinion of the woman given they were strangers, only make an assumption on the information she had of her. The world of demon politics vs the world of human politics was vastly different and often clashed as a result.

Myoga nodded "She's aware that legally and by birth, Miyuki is her current grandchild, given Sesshoumaru hasn't inherited his fathers title as of yet, nor has he legally married himself. Meaning that Miyuki is the current princess of the Inu-DaiYokai clan. But she won't be happy about it, given their pride as royals". She couldn't deny that Miyuki was one of her descendants, that she was of the same bloodline, but she wouldn't be happy about the fact. Seeing the bloodline become tainted by human blood, thinning out their demon heritage. She would hope that Sesshoumaru would at least carry on the bloodline with whoever he chose as a wife. Among the demon world InuYasha's family were a hierarchy, royals of the most potent lineage. Rendered as gods among the demon and human realm.

"If she wants to keep her distance it's fine by me, so long as she doesn't cause any trouble for us or Miyuki" InuYasha huffed. He didn't care if she chose to be part of her grandchild's life, he didn't care if she communicated or acknowledged Miyuki. But what he wouldn't tolerate was her causing trouble in their lives. He'd managed to live without Sesshoumaru, he'd learned how to live without parents. He could teach Miyuki to live without her grandmother that was for damn sure.

Myoga nodded, understanding his masters frustration "Lady InuKimi isn't one to enact schemes or cause unnecessary feuds, however, this isn't a matter she can just ignore" he hummed.

Sesshoumaru stood by the stairs to his mother's throne, an expression of boredom on his face as he gazed around the throne room, knowing this would all become his soon. He would live among this grandeur, all this space, all this wealth would become his. Despite being legally the next lord of the western lands, inheriting his fathers title, he had yet to accept it, yet to take on the mantle and have a proper coronation ceremony. He wasn't ready to accept such responsibility, though with the birth of his niece, it was something he needed to consider to protect his half brothers family. Miyuki would be forced to visit her grandmother eventually, meaning she would see this palace for herself in time.

"I wonder why Lady InuKimi would summon us to the palace" Jaken asked, she was a demon of prestige and influence, she had her own life and responsibilities. She respected her son had matured and had his own goals, yet still summoned him on occasion. Sesshoumaru said nothing, reflecting upon the situation and considering his options. Growing up around his mother he'd become familiar with her habits and her personality, his mother was a cunning woman, intuitive, deceptive, intelligent and powerful. She was a great diplomat and very influenced in demon politics, greatly respected as the first wife of his late father.

Soon a familiar silver haired Yokai appeared, wearing her usual purple butterfly adored kimono, her eyes shining as she noticed her son. "Sesshoumaru, it's not often you show your face around here, I assume you've come to accept your fathers title at long last" InuKimi greeted with a smile. He had grown from such a small irresponsible pup into a hardened, fearless and highly intelligent young man. He preferred to live a nomadic loner life, travelling all over the domains of Japan and trying to become stronger. He was greatly suited to take over his fathers title but he still had so much to learn.

Sesshoumaru sighed, he was in no mood for trivial words or reminiscing about the past "It's a title I shall soon be accepting..." he trailed off. He wondered if he would ever match up to the legacy his father had left behind. Though he was greatly respected as the eldest son of the late demon general, his own power and potential greatly differed from his father. The path he would forge was not yet known, the person he was becoming and the life that lay ahead of him.

InuKimi smiled, he was still so naive, still learning and growing, despite how old he was "Your father would be proud to know you're following in his footsteps" she hummed. In many ways he was his fathers son, not just in striking resemblance but he shared many of his fathers personality traits. He had his fathers calm and focused demeanour, speaking in a calm tone. However, he lacked the charm of his late father which ironically his half brother showed openly. Touga had been a great mentor to their son but passed before he could pass on further knowledge to his eldest. Sesshoumaru frowned, his father would have been great comfort to him at a time like this, looking to him for guidance in his future endeavours and decisions. His father had once asked him if he had someone to protect, an answer he still didn't know. He didn't wish to endanger Miyuki as she was so young, enemies having already come for her life. The dark priestess Tsubaki, a self proclaimed rival of her mothers who harboured bitterness at the loss of the shikon Jewel and being overpowered by Kikyo. Enemies of their father would seek her out too, scorned by his late father seeking revenge on his progeny. He didn't wish for his mother to come after her too. "Something plagues your mind my son, do you wish to unburden yourself?" she teased, he was one to keep his emotions locked away, but she knew him well enough to accurately perceive his emotions.

Sesshoumaru sighed, there was no use hiding it from her, since they were discussing family affairs "As I'm sure you've been informed, InuYasha fell to our father's weakness, an affection for humans. He's mated with and married a human priestess of immense spiritual power, she's bore him a quarter breed DaiYokai of immense demonic and spiritual potential. She's a royal by blood, your first grandchild..." he explained. He had followed in their fathers footsteps and married a human woman, giving into his fondness for her and choosing to spend his life with her. Though he'd been sceptical of his brothers decisions, he had to admit he'd made the right choice with his mate. However, his mother would need to be informed of the fact Miyuki existed and she was of the same bloodline.

InuKimi's expression became surprised, her eyes widening, InuYasha had always been a loner, he followed his own path and never relied on anyone. He was stubborn, persistently determined, harboured volatile emotions and impatient. She had often scolded him growing up for not using honorifics when referring to someone including herself. However, he had keen instinct honed by survival, a deeply loyal person. His inner loneliness had caused him to become an empathetic person under a hardened exterior. He appeared to be fiercely protective of his chosen mate and child, residing in the small human village. "I see... I'm aware that your half brother chose to live on the strayed path, raising himself in the wilderness for the longest time after Izayoi's passing. I would have believed he would have perished choosing such a reckless life. I'm relieved to know he finally mated with someone, though I never expected a priestess of all things..." she hummed. She chuckled in amusement "A priestess? He certainly inherited your fathers tendency for dramatics, an enemy of demons. I'm intrigued to meet her".

Sesshoumaru's expression hardened, he had met Kikyo, she had a compassionate and innately maternal soul which she projected onto InuYasha and her daughter. She had an incorruptible soul, one that wouldn't be swayed by anything. She deeply loved InuYasha, both bonding over their loneliness and finding comfort in one another. She harboured wisdom from beyond her years, immensely skilled in herbology and spiritual potency. "Both are fiercely protective of her, I wouldn't underestimate how far they will go to ensure Miyuki's safety" he warned. "She may be a human, but InuYasha's mate is not one to be underestimated, she far surpasses the average priestess and her powers after childbirth have only increased".

InuKimi hummed, Sesshoumaru was no liar, for him to become intrigued and impressed by InuYasha's mates power, she had to be an efficient warrior. She was eager to meet her stepson's family, to see if they were truly as impressive as her son conveyed. However, she was also intrigued by his current hobbies "I hear you've been babysitting her too dear son, you've developed a fondness for your niece it seems" she reminded him. Sesshoumaru had been content with his own company ever since his fathers passing, isolating himself from anyone and everything. Now suddenly, he had become curious of his niece, continuously returning to the village to meet with her.

Sesshoumaru scowled "She's the firstborn InuYokai child in three millennium, since the birth of myself and InuYasha. Our bloodline needs to be preserved, though I have distaste at it being mixed with human blood" he huffed. Though he had believed InuYasha would perish from his own ignorance and recklessness before he carried on their bloodline. He had surpassed all of their expectations and created a life for himself. However, if he had been able to have a say in his brothers choices, he would have preferred his brother be placed in an arranged marriage with a demon female, but he knew InuYasha would never accept such a thing. He respected Kikyo to an extent, she greatly cared for InuYasha and she was stronger than she was perceived to be. InuYasha had made his choice and it wouldn't be changed.

InuKimi rested her chin in her hand reflectively, her son indeed made a strong point, after the passing of Touga, herself, InuYasha and Sesshoumaru were the only InuYokai in existence. Miyuki would need to be added to the family roster, alongside InuYasha, Kikyo and now their child, the first official new generation of their clan. Though this would cause a dispute among the other demon clans, many would become judgemental that the grandchild of Touga would be the daughter of a Hanyou and a human. She was considerably weaker in demon blood than the rest of their remaining family, more susceptible to wounds, illnesses and other things demons were otherwise immune to. Her spiritual power would cause caution, many believing she would become a hunter of demons. Many may even hunt her down for sport to test her potential. Sesshoumaru was indeed correct that legally she was the next princess of the Inu-DaiYokai clan, she was a precious specimen within their family. She had not yet gained full control of her growing powers, not yet understanding her full potential. "I am intrigued to meet her, I wish to finally be introduced to my grandchild, though whether she will be as abrasive as her father we will find out. I do hope you'll continue to watch over her as she matures" InuKimi smiled. Curious of what she would look like, which parent she would resemble most, how prominent her demon traits would be and what her personality would be like.

Sesshoumaru growled, so he was still expected to babysit her, he had more pressing matters to attend to than constantly watching over his niece. But his mother wished to test her capabilities to see if she was worthy of the title of princess. Miyuki was indeed showing signs of both of her heritages but she wasn't old enough to fully show their true potential. But she would be mentored by himself, InuYasha and Kikyo, learning how to channel and focus her abilities and learn of her powers. He was however concerned of how it would transpire upon his mother meeting her. He turned quietly, departing his mothers castle.

"Milord were you angered by how your mother referred to your niece?" Jaken questioned, he had sensed an underlying rage in his master when she was referring to Miyuki. As if he wished to confront her on the way she spoke about her. Ever since he had come into contact with Miyuki, his attitude had changed, he was less hostile towards her and InuYasha's mate.

Sesshoumaru frowned, his mother spoke ignorantly due to her hostility towards Izayoi, but also her innate disregard for humans. Miyuki wasn't involved in their family affairs, she had no idea she was from a prominent family. "That girl can't help where she came from, the decisions of her parents were what led to her birth. She cannot be blamed for their actions, she's naive" he pressed. Just like InuYasha had been dragged into the complications of being a Hanyou through Izayoi and their father, Miyuki was forced into accepting that as a quarter breed, her demonic capabilities were significantly weaker than her fathers or his own. But her DaiYokai blood would still make her stronger than the average quarter demon, alongside her mothers spiritual blood. She would never belong alongside humans much like her father due to her demonic traits, but she would also be rejected by other demons for appearing too much like a human. She had a compassionate heart, a curiosity for the world around her and a kindness for others. She was mild mannered and respectful which his mother would appreciate. However, as expected of her she was socially awkward, introverted, very attached to her parents and immature.

"She's at least respectful with her elders, that should at least earn her favour with Lady InuKimi" Jaken hummed, unlike her father she used the correct honorific's when referring to people unless they were her parents. Calling Sesshoumaru her uncle, imagining InuKimi's face when referred to as Obaa-chan.

Sesshoumaru huffed, she was still young so her personality would change drastically as she got older. Miyuki was indeed a mild mannered, compassionate and curious child, she loved her parents dearly and was obviously very attached to them as expected of a toddler. But if she was scared, angry, impatient, her blood would run rampant, causing her to lose control. Summoning her fangs and claws, lashing out at others around her. But her emotions due to her age made her powers unstable, something she needed to control. He would need to pay his brother and sister-in-law a visit.

"Mama? What's this shell?" Miyuki questioned, pointing to the ornate white shell of her mothers, filled with red rouge. Her mother had a collection of all sorts of treasures, a hand mirror which she rarely used, many incense, her collection of medicinal herbs etc. But this shell was something her mother treasured above all, often carrying it in the sleeves of her robes, or the chest of her robes. She wore it often and kept it close to her heart.

Kikyo smiled, delicately picking up the Beni and holding it in her hand, carefully showing it to her daughter. "This Beni belonged to your grandmother Izayoi, it was the last thing your papa inherited from her when she passed away. When I met your papa, this was the first present he gave me to show the depth of his love" Kikyo explained. The day she and InuYasha finally began to resolve their past hostility, their previous time as enemies, InuYasha showed his trust and budding affection for her by giving her the beni that belonged to his mother. Kikyo had been so touched by such an innocent gift, being a priestess meant she had to disregard all selfish desires. This including makeup, perfume, any sort of belonging. After marrying him and becoming a mother, she had become more confident in using it. Often colouring her lips knowing InuYasha would notice, seeing the blush that formed on his cheeks and heated gaze behind his eyes. Many of the villagers complimented her and other strangers had noticed the change in her. Kikyo still harboured it, treasuring it with her entire heart, the memory of what came to be, someday it would belong to Miyuki when she was of age.

Miyuki's eyes widened in awe, shining like stars, knowing her papa loved mama so much he gave her something so pretty, it had to be special "Papa really loves you" she gasped.

Kikyo laughed fondly "Papa may be moody sometimes, but he's a kind person deep down" she teased. InuYasha had taken time to trust her, to truly accept her into his life and his heart. From watching and observing her from a distance, to becoming curious of her routine. Watching her play with village children, of her compassion for the villagers. When he told her she reeked of demon blood she began bathing more regularly to rid herself of the scent. Sometimes they would simply sit and watch the village together in content silence, before they began to converse with one another, opening their hearts to one another.

InuYasha watched his wife with a sense of fondness, watching her mentor their daughter, sharing stories with her of how they met, doting her with affection and guiding her through life. Kikyo had always had a natural affinity for children, such as the local village children being drawn to her, seeing her with their own child warmed his heart, the love that radiated from her. Watching the two people he loved most in their natural state, so innocent and happy, it truly warmed his heart. A smile forming on his lips as his own affection for her deepened. He wondered if this was how his father felt when he met his mother, seeing her for the first time and knowing this was the woman he wanted to spend his life with.

Myoga watched his master with a knowing look, the same expression Touga had worn when he fell for Princess Izayoi. The same tenderness, the same content happiness, knowing he'd found his person. Courting her had been an interesting thing to observe, given she was surprised that a demon of all creatures had noticed her. Slowly warming up to Touga, developing an affection for him that was returned, finding happiness together. InuYasha's relationship with Lady Kikyo mirrored that of his parents. "It pleases me to know that Lady Izayoi's Beni has gone to such a worthy person. Lady Kikyo seems to truly treasure it and Lady Miyuki will wear it with pride as she grows older" Myoga hummed.

InuYasha blushed, he hadn't had much from his parents when they passed, all he had left of his mother was her Beni and his memories. His father left him his robe of the fire rat and his blade. The blade he could use to protect his family, the lipstick he could give to the woman he loved. Seeing her wear it brought him a happiness he couldn't explain, her pale complexion made her lips look like petals. "Yeah well I had no use for it and it suited her best" he muttered shyly. Myoga chuckled knowingly, like father like son in the most ironic of senses. Lord Touga had the beni made for Izayoi as a token of affection, upon his death, her tears were forged into the Beni due to her grief. Now after protecting it for many centuries, InuYasha had bestowed it to his mate as a gesture of affection, which would be passed onto their daughter. InuYasha sniffed the air, his ears twitching as the hairs on his body stood on end, it seemed their peaceful evening was not to last after all. An immense demonic aura approaching quickly, his eyes hardening as he growled lowly. He would recognise that scent anywhere, so he'd come for another visit.

"Milord?" Myoga asked in confusion, what had caused him to become so irritable all of a sudden, his ears twitching.

"Onii-chan?" Kaede questioned, she knew something was wrong, his demeanour had swiftly altered from calm and composed to concerned in a matter of seconds.

Kikyo held Miyuki close to her chest, a stern expression forming "InuYasha?" she questioned, did they need to hide? Was an enemy approaching and how powerful were they? Kaede would need to protect their child alongside Myoga.

InuYasha clenched his fists, wondering what his brother had come to say now "Seems like Sesshoumaru's come back for another visit" he huffed. It seemed his newest hobby was bothering InuYasha and his family out of persistent boredom.

InuYasha stood outside the hut, glaring in the direction of Sesshoumaru's oncoming aura, the sky had darkened from the cloudless midnight blue, grey ominous clouds slowly forming in the sky. The air was thick with demonic aura causing the villagers to cower to their huts. Though he'd slowly began to redeem himself by acting as a guardian to Miyuki on occasion, InuYasha was still distrustful of his brother. After the centuries of pain and hardship he'd caused him, suddenly showing a softer side didn't erase his past actions. Miyuki was naive, she lived a much more sheltered and protected life than he had growing up, but she was blameless for that. She only had glimpses of how cruel people could be to hybrids, she only had brief moments of unhappiness. She couldn't see her uncle as the monster he had been, she didn't know what he was capable of. What had he come to visit for this time? They'd not been attacked for some time and there had been no mention of oncoming enemies. Unless he was bored and merely wanted entertainment.

Kaede held her ground, fear filling her but she couldn't be deterred, she may have poorer eyesight due to her injury, but she was still a priestess in her own right. She would protect her family with every fibre of her being, she would defend her home. She was training to face demons, to fight and protect others from demonic influence, she knew a lot had happened in her absence and she was about to find out what. She couldn't run away. Kikyo had been training her since she was young to follow in her footsteps, now that she was an auntie she had more people to protect. She couldn't be a coward, she needed to face the danger and show what she was made of. Kikyo held Miyuki close to her chest, her gaze fixated on the location of the oncoming demonic aura she recognised as Sesshoumaru's. He'd become a regular visitor to the village and she had become adapted to his travelling, however, she sensed something malicious, something wicked, his aura had changed. Miyuki merely stared in awe as she sensed an oncoming aura approaching the village, watching the sky change drastically before her eyes.

A large blast of energy filled the air like lightening, a blue energy formed before them before a shape began to take form. Red eyes glowing from within before a familiar face appeared. Soon Sesshoumaru appeared, landing nearby their hut with a calm expression, Jaken hanging onto his mokomoko. He sighed heavily, gazing down at his in laws with a look of disdain and irritability. He knew he was inconveniencing them but he had his reasons to be here, he would try and make this brief for all of them. "Greetings InuYasha, you appear to be behaving, I'm relieved to know that you haven't involved yourself in trouble. It seems fatherhood has matured you" Sesshoumaru greeted. He'd settled down immensely, no longer going on tantrums and looking for fights to increase his strength. Instead he found strength from within, trained himself and learned to mature through his found family, he was impressed of his growth. He'd gone from fighting the world and adamantly trying to make people hear his voice, to choosing his battles wisely and intimidating others into recognising his worth.

InuYasha scoffed, whenever Sesshoumaru showed his face, his words nearly always felt like passive aggressive or an insult. He didn't need patronising statements from his brother, he just wanted to know the reason he came. He hoped this visit was brief as he didn't want his brother staying longer than necessary "What do you want this time Sesshoumaru? I don't need protecting". His human blood was dormant until the next dark moon, he was more than capable of taking care of himself.

Sesshoumaru frowned, brushing off his brothers tone and focusing on the matters at hand, he understood InuYasha's frustration but he needed to be informed of the changes that would soon be taking place. It would affect all of their lives in the future "I didn't plan on visiting, however, I was summoned by my mother to the palace. She wished to discuss some important family matters with me" he explained.

InuYasha stiffened, so Sesshoumaru was involved in all of this too, he knew Sesshoumaru was estranged from his mother but remained in contact with her "InuKimi... summoned you?" he questioned. For her to ask Sesshoumaru to come to the palace personally it had to be for an important reason, he'd been right to be worried, his instincts preparing him for what was to come. He'd been thinking of her earlier and now she was being brought up once again in conversation, his gut told him this meant trouble. InuKimi never involved herself in InuYasha's personal life, for her to become so interested in his life couldn't mean anything good.

Sesshoumaru nodded, he knew that InuYasha had an estranged relationship with his stepmother. But then the two were always strangers so it was expected. "She wished to question me of my decision to inherit our fathers title as Lord of the Western lands" he explained. He would be granted a position of nobility and influence as a demon lord, his fathers rightful heir. Though it would also come with a barrage of demeaning and frustrating issues, engagements, fiance submission's and so on. He had no desire to marry as of yet and was still forging his own power as his fathers son. He had a lot of expectations placed upon him, many InuYasha would not be able to understand, making difficult choices.

InuYasha stared, he could imagine Sesshoumaru being under a lot of stress with all these changes in his life. Though he hid it well, anyone who knew him well enough could see the subtle change in features on his face. Now he was starting to understand why Sesshoumaru had come here, he knew how much Sesshoumaru had admired and respected his father, the grief of losing him had hit him hard. He was deeply hurt when InuYasha inherited the Tetsuigha, bitter that his father had bestowed it to his younger brother, but over time he learned how to wield the Tenseigha for himself. He had yet to forge his own blade from his own body, finding his own path and abandoning his desire to be like their father. Often confused at their fathers decisions as was InuYasha, wondering why their father had chosen to give them such blades. Given they were closer as father and son. Sesshoumaru had known him before his passing, he had deeply admired his father and cared for him deeply. To inherit their fathers title was of great importance to them, for InuKimi to summon him to discuss it was a huge deal. "So...why come to us about it? How does you becoming Lord of the western lands affect us?" he questioned in confusion, would they be driven from their home? Would attacks become more prominent, would they be forced to move into the castle?

Sesshoumaru sighed, he understood the conflict his brother was feeling but he couldn't give him confirmed details of what it would entail. "Upon your birth you were officially titled a prince, though you never lived at the palace alongside us, it's your birthright. My mother wishes to be introduced to her grandchild, she wishes for me to continue to observe and guard your family. However, I will warn you that eventually you will inevitably be summoned to the palace" he explained. InuYasha would never be labelled a lord despite being legally a prince, he had no titles nor did he have the position, but he would be seen as such. InuKimi wanted her grandchild to follow some of the traditions expected of their family, to become a Inu-DaiYokai the family could be proud of.

InuYasha's eyes widened, Miyuki was barely two and she was already drawing the attention of her remaining extended family? InuKimi wanted him to attend the palace to have a meeting with her grandchild? He'd barely spoken to her since he was a small child, why was she so invested in meeting his daughter? She'd never been an emotional or empathetic person, harbouring the expected indifference and matriarchal role of an elder demon. There was no way she would have affection for someone she'd never met. Miyuki was the weakest of their bloodline, though she was by no means powerless, her abilities merely differed from others. Why would someone like InuKimi regard her grandchild? While he was a half demon she was mostly human, he would have believed she would be more hostile towards her.

"Lady InuKimi wishes to see her?" Myoga asked in a panic, he had met lady InuKimi during the marriage of his master before he met Izayoi. She was a powerful InuDaiYokai with influence, charm and was not to be underestimated. Miyuki was still a toddler, she was naive and harmless, her expectations of her future would be endless and yet unknown, she had no idea of the prospects ahead of her.

Sesshoumaru peered at Myoga, he hadn't seen him in person since he was a young pup, briefly having encounters with him. He recalled the first time the flea had bitten him, slapping him from his person, ever since Myoga had steered clear. In comparison to Totosai who was a much more admirable ally to his father, Myoga was by far the most questionable. "Myoga, you've finally made yourself known to InuYasha's daughter, I would have expected you to be at the birth given it was a prominent moment. Though I assume I'll be a more suited guardian to her during my brother or sister in laws absence, given your history of cowardice" he mused. He had never had any respect for his fathers previous vassal, he had been with him the day he passed and escaped unscathed, showing his cowardly nature to escape. He had finally introduced himself to his niece, though he doubted he would be any use of a mentor to her. He would never allow him to influence Miyuki. InuYasha snorted, biting his lip as he withheld a laugh, as much as he disliked Sesshoumaru, he had proven himself to show some care for his niece.

Myoga huffed, it seemed both brothers were intent on bullying him

Kikyo cupped Miyuki's head protectively, approaching cautiously "What intention does she have with our child? Miyuki's powers are still developing and she's shown no signs of acting rampantly or losing control. We've lived in peace mentoring her under our terms, why now is your mother so interested in her?" she asked suspiciously. If Miyuki was the weakest of their bloodline, she would be of no use to her grandmother, she would have no power. She wasn't as powerful a warrior as her grandfather or uncle, she had powers they never had. She was still sheltered, growing up and learning, she was yet to find herself as a person. InuYasha admired Kikyo, here she was facing down Sesshoumaru with accusations of why his mother was so curious of their child. Warning him of any insinuation that may lead to her daughter being harmed, she would enact violence upon them. Kikyo's bravery was something he respected, she had faced numerous enemies, nearly met her end at multiple occasions. But she still faced enemies with a calm expression and fierce courage.

Sesshoumaru turned to her, he could feel the rage burning behind Kikyo's eyes, he understood Kikyo's worry for her child and it was admirable, once again showing her fearless nature he had come to respect. Though his mother would be able to overpower her, he could imagine her fighting tooth and claw against InuKimi to protect her daughter, putting her life on the line to preserve her offspring. Kikyo may have been young, she may have been inexperienced in many things but she was by no means a fool. "My confusion on the matter is the same as yours, she wasn't as approving of your choice in mate but as an elder Inu-DaiYokai it was expected. She's intrigued to meet your mate and daughter, curious of their powers and Miyuki's potential. As well as documenting her officially in the family registry as princess" Sesshoumaru pressed. He could see her throwing a family meal to bring them together, allowing them to formally meet and discuss together.

InuYasha's eyes widened in awe, this was the last thing he expected of his stepmother "She... she wants to officially confirm Miyuki as a princess? A title in the InuDaiyokai line?" he muttered. Though he was also labelled a prince in the family line by blood, he had never been acknowledged as one and he never felt like one. For his daughter to be named one, it would bring more attention to her. For the longest time he and Sesshoumaru had been the only descendants of their lineage, both childless. Now Miyuki was the next generation of Inu-DaiYokai and whoever she married someday would continue that lineage.

Sesshoumaru nodded, "I was as surprised as you but I cannot go against my mothers decision" he explained. He would rather Miyuki live in peace with her parents, avoiding the complications in the court, but the decision had been made. She would be mentored by her parents, himself and now have influence from her grandmother. As an elder of the clan he needed to respect her decisions and follow through even if he had other ideas. InuYasha softened, admitting defeat knowing he couldn't reject a summoning from his stepmother. "I understand your conflict little brother, believe me I will be there myself to see it through. But I'd prepare yourself for what is to come" Sesshoumaru warned.

Miyuki peered at Sesshoumaru, though she didn't understand fully what they were talking about she knew it was something serious. She watched her uncle closely, he seemed dejected, distant and weary, like something was bothering him. She wanted to cheer him up, make him feel better "Mama, can we give Ouji-chan some tea?" she asked. Sesshoumaru, Kikyo, InuYasha and Myoga all peered at Miyuki in confusion.

"Tea?" Jaken questioned in confusion, now was not the time for a tea party of all things.

Miyuki nodded, a beaming smile forming on her face as her eyes lit up happily "Mama makes really good tea when I'm not feeling good, Sesshoumaru Ouji-chan looks like he's sad, maybe it will make him feel better" she pressed. She loved sitting and having snacks with her parents, sitting in her parents laps and enjoying something tasty. InuYasha snorted, biting his lip, his daughters naive honesty was adorable and endearing, seeing Sesshoumaru silently take it never failed to amuse him. He'd known Sesshoumaru to a stoic and moody bastard ever since they were kids. But now his daughter was admitting it aloud, he'd never been prouder.

"She's so honest" Kaede sniggered, she had no filter and it was adorable. Kikyo sighed but she was smiling herself, biting back her own laughter as she tried to keep a straight face.

"That impudent brat, does she not acknowledge the stress you are under milord?" Jaken scoffed, she could run around and spend her carefree time chasing butterflies.

Sesshoumaru huffed, pinching Jaken's face with his claws, he was becoming short tempered with a toddler who didn't understand adult complications. Her unfiltered honesty could be refreshing at times. Her words came from a good place even if she didn't understand how her words could be perceived. "Enough Jaken, her words are harmless, though she is indeed correct this whole situation is tedious for me".

Kikyo smiled, it seemed that once again Sesshoumaru would be accompanying them for a brief period. Though he acted as though he found bonding with them demeaning, he seemed to naturally blend in with them. "If its not too bland for your taste, I have some herbal tea you may wish to partake of, though I can see which other blends I have" she offered.

Sesshoumaru sat silently near the doorway, his eyes watching his in laws closely, delicately holding a cup of tea in his hand. Kikyo had served him first as the guest showing she had manners, before serving InuYasha, then Jaken and then Miyuki. She placed a small bowl of peaches in the centre for them to snack on from harvest. Jaken sat nearby, a cup of tea also cradled in his small claws. Kaede peered at them both warningly, holding her snacks and making sure they behaved. He could see a fire in her eyes that reminded him of a young InuYasha. It seemed this girl whom he had learned was his second sister in law greatly admired InuYasha. Though her own spiritual essence was significantly weaker, she was still a trainee.

InuYasha glared daggers at his brother from across the room, watching him over his cup with suspicious eyes. He knew if he said one wrong thing, gave InuYasha a reason to attack him he would do so in a heartbeat. Protecting his home, his family, a territorial energy about him. He was always watching over her, acting as a shadow to his daughter so she never fell to harm. Though InuYasha wasn't aware of it, he was showing stronger traits of their father, fatherhood had matured him. Becoming more composed, reflective and thoughtful. The old InuYasha would have been hurling insults, arguing with him and trying to pick a fight. Kikyo placed her hands on her lap in silent reflection, her tea steaming in front of her, quietly observing and trying to find the time to speak her mind. Miyuki had perched herself on her mothers lap, watching her uncle curiously.

Sesshoumaru's eyes wandered around the hut, realising how financially worse off his brother was. Though he could have a better life for himself, InuYasha was content here. It was small, derelict, but homely, but then this village was poor, minimal income, minimal donations to the temple, the farming wasn't good and they were prone to attacks from demons and bandits. Though due to Kikyo's power and the presence of his half demon brother, many enemies now strayed away. He made note to consider finding them a better place to live with a better home, one that would support them better. InuKimi and himself could provide a much better quality of life for them all.

"I know it's far from the luxury of your own castle, but it's home to me so get used to it" InuYasha scoffed, he knew what Sesshoumaru was thinking. Sesshoumaru was raised in a castle, an entire room to himself and later a castle of his own. Servants waiting on him hand and foot, hot baths constantly, better quality of food and more. The only time InuYasha had known such a life was when his mother was alive, when he had shelter. Though briefly adopted by his stepmother, he had never felt as though he belonged there. The whispers, the glares and the judgement from those around him.

Sesshoumaru frowned, InuYasha had been raised alongside himself in his fathers castle, but he strayed away and lived on his own due to feeling isolated from the others. Making it clear he never regarded Sesshoumaru as a brother, saying he was too cruel to be considered family to him. Raising himself as an orphan, he knew InuYasha had his struggles, grateful he had a place to call home now that he was older.

Miyuki shifted on her mothers lap, seeing the moodiness of her uncle, she didn't want her papa and uncle to fight. She knew her papa was a kind person but he harboured a lot of pain and sadness within himself. She climbed from her mothers lap cautiously, approaching Sesshoumaru with innocent eyes. Kikyo and InuYasha watched their daughter cautiously as she approached her uncle. Sesshoumaru observed his niece, contemplating her next move, "Does it help?" Miyuki asked, pointing to his tea.

Sesshoumaru blinked, it was such an innocent comment it caught him off guard. The tea wasn't too pungent and the scent was indeed aromatic, blended perfectly showing Kikyo's knowledge on Herbology. The taste was indeed good for his mood, easing his tension, stress and fatigue, however he wouldn't confess this aloud. He assumed Miyuki believed he was feeling unwell or something was bothering him which is why she was so concerned for him. The weakness of her human blood making her vulnerable. "It's palatable" he mused.

Miyuki hummed, pointing to the endless jars where her mother kept her collection of dried and fresh ingredients. "Mama knows my nose gets sensitive, it's stronger than the other kids, so she makes meals me and papa can eat without getting sick" she smiled. InuYasha's senses were heightened meaning he couldn't enjoy certain foods without it triggering his taste. Miyuki had the same issue and he often comforted her.

Sesshoumaru hummed, demons could enjoy a variety of foods than humans couldn't, their tolerances being higher. Demons could tolerate stronger amounts of alcohol, couldn't get drunk as easily, ingest large quantities of food and so on. But certain potions, medicines and other items used by priests, monks and priestesses could affect them. Kikyo being a human, her senses were dulled in comparison to a demons, she had educated herself on the differences between herself and her loved ones, making sure they could enjoy meals without it being too much for them. Sesshoumaru sighed, it was evident that Kikyo cared for his brother, and Miyuki cared for him though he couldn't understand why. "I was lying when I mentioned that I merely came here to address you of my mothers schemes and announcing my title" he admitted.

InuYasha stiffened, scoffing sarcastically "I knew it" he growled, wondering what big news he was about to announce.

Sesshoumaru had never bestowed anything to anyone, he had no reason for such trivial matters and saw it as a tedious waste of time. He had no inheritance, no tokens, the only thing he had left from his father was his Tenseigha. But he knew Miyuki would appreciate pretty things, the human in her saw them as precious and important. But he had forged something for his niece upon her birth and meeting her. Eventually she would be bestowed with gifts marking her symbol as a member of their clan. A piece of the robe of the fire rat much like her father, acting as her armour to protect her in battle. Her grandmother Izayoi's beni, a priestess garment like her mother Kikyo; DaiYokai armour from their Inu bloodline, just as he had inherited and his father had worn, which InuYasha had rejected. As well as her own blade her parents were forging from her. He had no descendants of his own yet, no bloodline to follow after him, he had no time nor interest in romance. But perhaps he could watch over Miyuki until he found the right path. He rummaged in his robe, he had gone to Totosai and asked him to forge a gift for Miyuki, though not a blade. Gathering silver and a black diamond, to create a double toothed crescent moon hairpin, the black diamond placed in the centre arch of the moon. He revealed the pin in his open palm to Miyuki "It harbours no demonic essence, it has no barrier, no power, it's useless in that sense. Call it a trinket or a token" Sesshoumaru stated.

Miyuki took the hairpin tentatively, admiring it in her hand, she had never seen something so pretty before. She knew this might make other children jealous, the hairpin was shiny, pretty even, the gem in the centre shone brightly. She turned to hurry towards her parents, waving it proudly in the air "Mama, papa, look how pretty" she beamed. She couldn't wait to wear it, knowing her uncle had made it just for her. Kaede snorted, it seemed Sesshomaru had gone soft when it came to his niece. He'd made her something to wear so she would feel pretty, so she would smile. Kikyo smiled warmly, beckoning her daughter towards her, to which she delicately bound the hairpin in her ponytail, making sure it was sturdy so it wouldn't fall out.

InuYasha hummed, seeing Miyuki so delighted about a present from Sesshoumaru was something he never thought he'd see. He was going to have fun teasing Sesshoumaru about this for as long as possible. "Who knew you were going soft on us" he teased. He had always made it clear he thought half breeds were weaklings, a disgrace to his presence, and yet here he was doting on his niece. It seemed his cold heart was slowly melting.

Sesshoumaru frowned, he didn't know what InuYasha was insinuating but he didn't appreciate it in the slightest. When all demons came of age they were presented with a gift from other members of their family. She would never receive anything from her grandfather due to his passing, Izayoi had passed before her birth too. InuKimi would be hesitant about such things, so it was left to him. "It's a coming of age tradition, though she's younger than the expected age. All new members receive a gift from their elders" he protested.

"Yeah, whatever you say" InuYasha smirked, he could be imagining it but he sensed Sesshoumaru cared more about Miyuki than he let on. Knowing there were family members she would never meet, the loneliness of being an outsider. It seemed Sesshoumaru's current potential weakness was his growing fondness for his niece.
