It was another beautiful day in Cerulean City, and Misty was typing away at the keyboard. She recently received an email from her sisters saying that they would be having the final stretch of their trip at Lake May in the Hoenn region, and they were generous enough to invite her for this final leg of the trip! And since Ash was in the Hoenn region, she hoped to see him there…
"So Togepi," Misty said as she looked over her work, "do you think that Ash will be happy to see the two of us if we run into him in the Hoenn region?"
"Toge toge pree!" Togepi chirped. She was sitting on top of the bag containing everything that Misty needed. And like Misty, she was excited to see her "uncle" Ash and "big brother" Pikachu again.
"That's great," Misty said as she sent the last email she would make before heading to the Hoenn region to Ash. She already sent him an email about his complete sham of a gym battle against Wattson, where his Pikachu not only swept Wattson's team, but OHKO'd every member of Wattson's team thanks to an overcharge that Wattson inadvertently caused. But after Daisy gave her that bombshell of an email, she wanted to tell Ash the good news, even if he didn't get it until much later. Just then, she heard a knock on the door. Misty closed the gym for challengers today so that she could get ready and so that her substitute could get settled in. "That must be the stand-in my sisters got for me," Misty said as he headed out into the gym's main lobby to let the person inside...
Misty Chronicles OP1:
"I Ain't The Same, I'm the Power"
Lyrics by TheGlassyGuyArt
Vocals by Rachael Lillis (as Misty)
(Lyrics
Accompanying Visual)
I feel the change in the air, I'm feeling so alive
On a blue background, a silhouette of Misty's feet appears, and zooms up her body as the lyrics continue.
My heart is beating faster, higher than a kite
When it reaches her face, it zooms out and reveals her whole body.
I ain't the same, I'm something new, I'm something bold
Misty pulls out a Pokeball and throws it, a flash of light appears
I'm feeling the power, I'm never getting old!
The logo for "The Misty Chronicles" appears as it transitions to the first verse.
I ain't the same, I'm way much more,
Misty is shown running alongside a river, her Goldeen jumps out and wags her tail before falling back into the water.
My spirit's got the power to open every door!
Staryu jumps out of the water and spins before it too falls into the water.
"Giving up" was never in my dictionary,
Psyduck suddenly pops out of his Pokeball. Misty stops running as Psyduck falls into the water.
My power has been reborn, and so I have been!
Misty sighs as Togepi, who was in her arms, just chirps happily and claps
I'm on a mission to live my life right,
Misty is now facing off against another trainer, as Politoed cheers her on by clapping.
Spreading love and light with all of my might,
Misty sends out Corsola as it makes a pose.
Gotta rise up high don't be afraid to fall,
Horsea and Starmie are swimming behind a glass wall, giving happy expressions as if they are happy to see Misty again.
The courage within me is gonna carry all!
Gyarados swims straight up in front of the Pokemon as it cuts to Misty on the battlefield
OH YEAH, I AIN'T THE SAME BABY!
Misty sends out all of her Pokemon as the chorus starts up.
I ain't the same, I'm the power and younger!
Goldeen jumps up and uses a Horn Attack
I am the victory, feeling so much stronger!
Staryu and Starmie use Water Guns to form arcs as Misty makes a pose in between.
Oh yeah, I ain't the same,
Togepi shakes her arms back and forth like a metronome to the beat.
Oh yeah, I ain't the same!
Psyduck shakes his booty in front of the camera.
I ain't the same, I'm the motivation.
Horsea uses a Smokescreen attack to cover the whole screen.
I'm the heartbeat, born for inspiration!
Corsola clears the smoke by using a Spike Cannon attack.
Oh yeah, I ain't the same,
Politoed claps along to the beat.
Oh yeah, I ain't the same!
Gyarados pops out of the pool and unleashes an attack
I know in my heart I can do anything!
Misty and all of her Pokemon are seen together as the song ends.
On a cerulean blue background, the episode's title appears in white text as Misty Read it out loud:
AN UNDERWATER REMATCH
When she opened the door, she saw a brown-haired boy around the age of her sisters, wearing a red and white shirt, blue shorts, and a straw hat. She recognized the boy as Dorian, the leader of a smaller gym in the Johto region that she and Ash challenged. "Hello, Dorian," Misty said to the Johtonian.
"Hey there, Misty," Dorian said upon seeing the redhead gym leader.
"Thanks for agreeing to help my sisters and I out while I am away," Misty said with a smile.
"Anything to help them," Dorian said. Dorian was very close with Misty's sisters before her journey with Ash, and after their experience with him at the Coastline Gym, a friendship between him and the youngest Waterflower sibling formed. "Anyways, how is your life as the new Cerulean Gym Leader?"
"It has been a lot," Misty said as they moved towards the main area of the gym, with her explaining what had happened since she left Ash. "What about you? Have any trainers come to challenge you since we last saw each other?"
"They have," Dorian said, "but nowhere near the amount you have." Made sense, as his gym was a smaller, unofficial gym not in any city in the Johto region.
The two of them arrived at the main battle area of the gym. "Guys," Misty said, "there is something I need to tell you all!" Goldeen, Staryu, Starmie, Horsea, Politoed, Corosla, and Gyarados all popped out of the pool at their trainer's voice. Psyduck popped out of his Pokéball and landed on one of the platforms as they all turned their eyes towards Misty and Dorian. "As you all know, I will be heading away for a few days, and Dorian will be taking my place and watching over you guys for a while. I am sure most of you are familiar with him."
Everyone except for Starmie, Horsea, and Gyarados said parts of their names as if to say, "Yes."
Misty smiled before introducing the Coastline Gym Leader to the Pokémon who were left behind at the gym in the case of Horsea and Starmie, or not befriended yet in the case of Gyarados. "Dorian is a friend of mine and my sisters', and is a water-type gym leader in the Johto region," Misty said, "and he is a very strong trainer as well. I even had an underwater battle with him back in Johto…" She sighed before saying, "That wasn't finished because Team Rocket showed up. Why is it that whenever something interesting happens, Team Rocket just HAS to show up and ruin it?"
Dorian tapped Misty's shoulder which snapped her out of her angry thoughts. "You know, if you have the time, we can have a battle in your pool before you leave."
Misty thought about it before looking at her team of Pokémon. "How does a rematch against Dorian sound, guys?"
All of Misty's Pokémon seemed to approve of the idea, especially those capable of battling under the water.
"Looks like it is settled," Misty said.
"Alright then," Dorian said, "let's get ready for battle!"
Pretty soon, Misty and Dorian were standing on opposite sides at the bottom of the gym's pool. Dorian was now in a green and blue swimsuit with goggles and a device allowing him to breathe and communicate under the water. Misty was wearing a green two piece swimsuit while having a similar device. The two decided to have a three-on-three battle with no substitutions.
"How about you get the first move since you're the home trainer?" Dorian suggested.
"Alright then," Misty said as she pulled out a Pokéball. "Politoed, I choose you!"
"Politoed!" Politoed said as it clapped, slower because it was underwater.
"Alright then," Dorian said as he pulled out a Pokéball. "Let's go, Lanturn!" Dorian never got to use the Pokémon during their initial battle, so he felt like it was a good idea to have him lead the battle off.
"Lanturn!" The Water/Electric-type said once he got sent out of his Pokéball.
The battle soon began as Misty gave the first move. "Alright then, Politoed, use your Mega Punch attack!"
Politoed charged up his fist before delivering his punch, but due to being under the water, the attack was much slower than it was before, giving Dorian and his Pokémon ample time to counter. "Swim out of the way and use your Supersonic attack, Lantern!"
Lanturn quickly swam before it could get hurt by Politoed before its orb glowed. A series of blue sound waves came out of the orb and hit Politoed, who began to walk along the floor of the pool, confused.
"Come on, Politoed!" Misty said. "Try and snap out of it!"
Politoed wobbled back and forth before raising one of his hands up… and slapping himself in confusion.
"Now finish it off with a Spark attack!" Dorian ordered. Lanturn's orb glowed blue before a bolt of electricity came out and hurt Politoed. Somehow, despite them being underwater and Lanturn using an electric move, neither trainer ended up getting hurt. Politoed on the other hand was down for the count.
"Politoed!" Misty said as she swam over to her Pokémon. "Are you okay?"
Politoed gave out a slight croak. "Toed…"
"Well, get some rest," Misty said before returning her Pokémon to his Pokéball. She then thought about what Pokémon to use next. Lanturn was part Electric-type, so pretty much all of her Pokémon would have trouble against its Spark attack. "Alright then," Misty said as she finally came to a decision. She pulled out her second Pokéball and said, "Goldeen, let's go!"
The goldfish Pokémon popped out of her Pokéball and the battle resumed as Dorian told Lanturn to use Supersonic again. "Dodge it with an Agility attack, Goldeen!" Misty told her Pokémon.
"Goldeen!" Goldeen said as it zoomed around the pool, dodging the attack that would cause confusion.
"Alright then," Dorian said, "use a Spark attack!"
Lanturn unleashed a bolt of electricity from its orbs, and it went right towards Goldeen! "Dodge it!" Misty told her Pokémon.
But Goldeen could not dodge the attack in time as it got hit by the attack… but somehow didn't take any damage. Misty could only stand there confused. "How?" she asked. "How is it that Goldeen took no damage from the electrical attack?"
"It appears that Goldeen has a super rare ability," Dorian said. "Lightning Rod isn't the most common ability that Goldeen has, but it can be super useful in battles."
"I guess so," Misty said, smiling as she thought about how she could use it once she came back to the gym and started accepting challengers again. "Alright then, Goldeen, let's use a Fury Attack!"
"Deen!" Goldeen said as she swam towards Lanturn, jabbing her horn towards the Water/Electric-type Pokémon several times, dealing massive damage in the process. Pretty soon, Dorian's Pokémon was lying on the floor of the battlefield, unable to battle.
"You did a good job, Lanturn," Dorian said as he returned Lanturn to its Pokéball. He then pulled out the Pokéball containing his second Pokémon. "Alright, Qwilfish, come on out!"
"Qwilfish!" the pufferfish said upon coming out of its Pokéball before staring its opponent down. The battle started up again as Misty gave Goldeen an order to attack. "Alright Goldeen," Misty said, "use your Horn Attack!"
Goldeen swam towards Qwilfish, ready to attack. However, when it got close enough, Dorian made his move. "Qwilfish, send 'em back with a Poison Sting attack!"
Qwilfish launched a poisonous dart from its body, going right towards Goldeen, hitting her.
"Goldeen!" Misty shouted. "Are you okay?"
"Goldeen…" Goldeen said, but Misty could see that her skin was turning purplish from being poisoned by Qwilfish's attack. She knew she was on a timer with Goldeen, so she had to make a move and fast…
"Goldeen," Misty said, "use a Horn Drill attack!"
Goldeen's horn started to spin rapidly as she swam towards her opponent. "Pin Missile!" Dorian ordered as Qwilfish sucked some of the water in the pool into its body. It then slowly released the water as needles came out to attack Goldeen. Goldeen was able to evade the attacks as she swam closer and closer towards Qwilfish, her horn still spinning but the poison damage racking up quickly.
"Keep it up!" Misty told her Goldeen as she neared the Water/Poison Pokémon as it unleashed one last Pin Missile attack, which hit Goldeen just as her horn hit Qwilfish. Both Pokémon fell to the floor of the pool, fainted.
"Are you okay?" Misty asked her Goldeen as she lay there, eyes swirling. She was returned to the Pokéball as Misty got back to her corner of the battlefield as the final round began. She knew Dorian only had one Pokémon left, and unless he caught something new since she last saw him, she had a good idea of who it would be. And she decided it would be a good idea to end the battle with a Water/Flying Pokémon against a Water/Flying Pokémon. She pulled out Gyarados' Pokéball and looked at it. "Alright, Gyarados," Misty said, "I need you to help me out…" She then threw the Pokéball as the serpentine beast came out with a mighty roar.
"Gyarados?" Dorian asked before he pulled out the Pokéball containing his last Pokémon. "I see you are giving me a challenge…" He threw the Pokéball containing his Mantine out. "But I am going to take it!"
"Mantine!" Mantine said as the Kite Pokémon came out of its Pokéball, ready for a battle. The two Pokémon looked at each other as Misty gave Gyarados the order for the first attack.
"Alright, Gyarados," Misty shouted, "let's start this battle off with a Headbutt attack!"
Gyarados let out a roar as it swam furiously towards his opponent. As Gyarados got closer to Mantine, Dorian gave his order. "Dodge it with an Agility, Mantine!" Gyarados was just about to hit Mantine when the Johto Pokémon hastily moved out of the way, leaving the Atrocious Pokémon confused and outraged. Gyarados swam towards the ray, his six-and-a-half-meter-long body looking graceful as it moved through the water. Gyarados opened and closed his mouth several times in an attempt to intimidate Mantine. It didn't work as Mantine swam above Gyarados and used an upside-down Bubble Beam on Misty's Pokémon. The bubbles hitting Gyarados' skin only irritated Gyarados even more as it glared at Mantine.
"Gyarados," Misty commanded, "use a Whirlpool attack!"
Gyarados obeyed as he swam around his opponent rapidly as Mantine was soon trapped inside of a vortex without a way for it to escape.
But Dorian had an idea as he told his Mantine, "Ride the Whirlpool with your Agility and get out of the water!" Mantine got to the wall of the Whirlpool before turning sideways and using agility, moving faster and faster as it rose higher and higher. Gyarados was about to fire a Hyper Beam, but with Dorian thinking of a way for Mantine to escape Whirlpool, he gave chase as both Pokémon jumped out of the pool and soared several meters into the air. As they reached the height of their jumps, Gyarados lunged towards Mantine and bit its wing before using a close-range Hydro Pump attack to force Mantine back into the water. Gyarados dived back in with a huge splash as it saw what happened. Mantine lay there on the ground, fainted. And since Dorian had no more Pokémon who could fight, that made Misty the winner of the battle.
"You did good, Mantine," Dorian said. "Have a nice, long rest." Dorian returned the Kite Pokémon to his Pokéball.
Meanwhile, Misty was praising her Gyarados. "You did a great job out there, Gyarados." Gyarados let out a roar before Misty returned the beast to his Pokéball.
"That was a fun battle we had, Misty," Dorian said as the two stood in the gym's lobby. The two of them had dried off and gotten back into their regular clothes.
"Yeah," Misty said with a smile, "especially since nobody came and interrupted it like last time."
Dorian smiled. "Yeah," the Coastline Gym Leader said to the Cerulean Gym Leader.
"Make sure you take good care of the gym and the Pokémon while I am away," Misty said. For her little trip to the Hoenn region, she decided to bring along her Corsola, Gyarados, and of course, Togepi.
"I will," Dorian said as Misty saw a car outside of the gym, waiting for her.
"Looks like my ride's here," Misty said as she got her bag. "I should be back in a week or so."
"Goodbye," Dorian said as he waved to the redhead.
"Bye," Misty said back as she headed outside.
"Toge toge pree!" Togepi chirped as she waved her little arms as if to say goodbye to Dorian.
Misty soon got into the car and told the driver, "Cerulean Airport." They were soon on their way as Misty looked down at her little baby. "Are you excited to see your aunties, Togepi?" she asked, referring to Daisy, Lily, and Violet.
"Toge," Togepi chirped before saying, "Pi Pi!"
Misty chuckled at the last two chirps of her baby, "Oh yes, and Ash and Pikachu as well…"
After having the battle with fellow Water Gym Leader Dorian that she deserved, Misty is now on her way to see her sisters in the Hoenn region. She also has high hopes of seeing her old friends Ash and Brock as well, as this might be the first time she sees them in person after they separated at the end of the Johto journeys. What kind of adventures await her in the Hoenn region? The answers will be coming soon!
After the Lake May Festival Performance, Ash made a mad dash towards the Pokémon Center's computer. He had been meaning to head towards it earlier, but he just didn't have the chance to until now.
"What are you doing, Ash?" May asked the trainer from Pallet Town.
"Yeah," Max added, "with the way you keep on going there every single time you visit a Pokémon Center, people are going to think that you are a huge computer nerd!"
"I am just checking my emails," Ash said. "I just want to make sure that my friend is doing okay."
"You must REALLY miss her every day, Ash," Max said. "Is she your girlfriend?"
"No," Ash said as he put his hands in the air, his cheeks as red as his starter's. "She is a girl, she is a friend, but she is NOT a girlfriend." He focused his attention back to the computer screen and saw she had a new message. He read it to himself:
"Hey Ash! I have some good news! My sisters have finally given me a small break from running the gym for a while so I can join them on the last leg of their vacation! They had one of our friends from the Johto region, Coastline Gym Leader Dorian, take over while I am away, so that means I can potentially see you! By the time you read this, I should already be at Lake May, so I expect to see you soon!
Misty"
Ash had to read it again to see if he was dreaming. The same exact text. He had to have Brock read it before he realized that this wasn't a dream. "Our friend is finally coming to the Hoenn region!" Ash said. He then shouted out, "MY FRIEND IS FINALLY COMING TO HOENN TO SEE ME!"
The Maple siblings could only look at Ash. "Who is this friend you are talking about?" May asked.
Ash simply smiled before responding, "You will find out…"
