Chapter 1.

The large hospital was jammed full and everyone was running around trying to get the people help they needed. Cries of pain, screams of agony and anger echoed through the halls as family members were treated, worked on and even died from this night of pure hell.

Up in one of the upper floors in a room all the way in the back, the door was shut tight with two masked ninja standing guard outside. In the room was a single bed that was occupied by a young man with yellow hair that was a couple shades darker due to the dirt and blood that caked it. His tan skin was littered with dirt, bruises and cuts, his right arm and shoulder was wrapped up in white gauze that went up his neck and along his whole torso, his left hand had a couple patches on it with an IV pumping pain killers and sleeping aid into his wounded system.

At the foot of the bed stood a young ninja with spiky silver hair that seemed to defy gravity, he wore a skin tight blue mask over the lower part of his face. He wore a matching tank top with matching baggy pants and a silver plated vest over the top with full arm gloves and a blue hitai-ate on his head that was tilted to the left over his eye.

Next to him a woman with light blonde hair pulled into two low pigtails with bangs framing her face. She had brown eyes and a young looking face with a purple rhombus on her forehead, she wore a gray kimono shirt that was opened very low to accent her larger than life curves and a dark blue obi around her waist and matching blue pants and blue sandals.

"So …. how is he?" The boy asked staring at the man laying in the bed.
"He'll pull through, he's going to be in a lot of pain … both physically and mentally." She said with a sigh. "He'll probably be able to go home in a week or so after, but I'm putting you in charge of him-"
"I already am." The boy said. "Kushina-hime made me swear to become his companion and take care of him." He said quietly.
"Anyone can do it you can Kakashi." She said touching his shoulder with a gentle smile.

"Thanks Tsunade-hime." He said. "What about the baby?" He asked.
"I have someone checking on her, do you want me to move her in here?" She asked.
"Yes please, he'll need her when he wakes up, and that way I know no one will hurt her." He added.
"Alright, I'll be back." She said rubbing his back before walking out quickly.

Kakashi walked up to the bed and sighed quietly looking at the man who was his hero, his sensei and his kage, Namikaze Minato. Only being 24 years old he had accomplished more than many hope for in their lifetime. He was a hero of the war putting a stop to the third great war essentially by himself, he was feared all over known as the Yellow flash of Konohagakure. He was named Hokage at 23 years old and became a father at 24 just tonight, and unfortunately became a widower tonight as well.

The day that was suppose to be one of the biggest and best days of his life turned into a complete nightmare. His wife Uzumaki Kushina was what was known as a jinchuuriki, which was a human that was used as a jail cell for a chakra beast called a biju. Kushina held the most powerful and feared biju of them all Kyuubi no Kitsune. They were sealed into the humans which usually kept the beasts at bay unless they lost control.

The biju were protected by a complicated seal that was only weak one time and that was when a female jinchuuriki was giving birth. That's exactly what happened tonight.

They moved Kushina to a sealed area that was guarded by elite anbu members, Minato stood by her side along with an anbu medic and the Sandaime's wife. Although it was difficult and put Kushina through agonizing pain between giving birth and the Kyuubi trying to break free, but she managed to give birth to their first child a beautiful little girl.

But their joy was short lasted because a masked man who killed all the anbu easily broke through the seals and forced Minato to leave Kushina's side to save his daughter. Even though he was a flash he wasn't fast enough to save Kushina from the extraction. She survived but was very weak and on death's doorstep. He took the dying mother to the baby letting her spend time with her as he went to stop the Kyuubi and the masked man from destroying Konoha.

The young Hokage managed to free the Kyuubi from the man chasing him off and removing the Kyuubi from Konoha. And while Minato was heartbroken to know his wife was dying he was prepared to seal Kyuubi into his daughter dying as well but it didn't happen the way he thought. The Kyuubi managed to free a paw and swiped it hoping to kill all three but missed only heavily damaging the young father and catching the baby. While Minato was unconscious Kushina sealed Kyuubi inside the baby and perished.

Kakashi who disobeyed orders to stay away from the Kyuubi found them and managed to speak with Kushina before she died and made a promise to the woman who was like his second mother, that he would protect the baby and help Minato through the loss. He promised to be the man's companion and help him anyway he needed whether the young father wanted the boy to help or not.

The room door opened again and Tsunade walked in holding a bundle in an orange blanket, she smiled gently as a nurse pulled in a small crib, she set it up next to the cot she brought in for Kakashi, he looked at the baby and smirked a little. "Here, I have to go help the wounded, a nurse will bring in some milk in a bit." She said, he nodded and took the baby and held her as Tsunade left. He sighed quietly and sat down in the chair holding the baby who was sound asleep. He sighed again and looked at her golden red hair, her pink skin and three whisker-like lines on each of her cheeks, she was tiny in his arms.

"Hey there little Naru." He said quietly. "Wait until you meet your dad, he'll probably drive you crazy." He whispered quietly before standing and setting her down in the crib. He shed his vest and weapons, he dropped his hitai-ate to the ground and sat on the cot and laid down with a sigh setting his arm over his eyes and falling asleep.

-*o*-

Kakashi jolted awake as a loud scream sounded in the dark room, he launched from his cot to see Minato sitting up in his bed shaking and staring out, he was letting out a choked air sound, sweat poured down his face. Naru's cries sounded from the scream that awakened her, Kakashi ran over to the baby lifting her up and quietly hushed and bounced her gently before swaying a little quieting her down slowly.

Kakashi walked up to the Minato who hadn't moved and was still making the choking noise. "Sensei." He said quietly and gulped when the man didn't respond, Kakashi sighed and shifted the baby to one arm before touching Minato's arm which was warm and sweaty. "Sensei! Sensei!" He said slightly louder but stopped as Naru let out a small protest, he sighed and focused creating a clone and passed the baby to it and sent them out into the hallway. "Sensei!" He said louder, Minato shook. Kakashi sighed and cupped the man's face, his electric blue eyes were unfocused and filled with tears. "Minato!" He barked, the man began to pant quietly. Kakashi sighed and cursed before letting out a huff and brought his hand up before it connected with the man's cheek with a loud snap! The man cried out in pain and blinked rapidly panting and gulped.

"Kakashi?" He asked.
"Finally." Kakashi said and grabbed a towel and reached in and wiped the man's face and bangs, Minato mumbled into the towel. "What?" Kakashi asked removing the towel.

"What's going on?" He whimpered, Kakashi sighed.
"Listen to me, what do you remember?" He asked gently.
"I was... no ..." He whined remembering, Kakashi closed his eyes in sympathy and sighed. "Kushina." Minato began to sob, Kakashi watched heartbroken as the strong man broke down. He reached out pulling the man close until his head hit Kakashi's shoulder. He didn't fight just slumped and cried, Kakashi stayed silent just waiting for the man to calm down.

"W...whe... where is … the... b... baby?" Minato asked hiccuping into the boy's shoulder.
"In the hall with a clone." Kakashi said gently, Minato pulled up and wiped his nose and struggled to breathe. "Calm down and then I'll bring her in." He said. "She's very grumpy when woken up." He said and chuckled.

"H...h...How long..." Minato struggled and sighed.
"You've been unconscious for a week." Kakashi answered.
"Wha... what about the vill.." He struggled out

"It's okay, a lot of damage was done, there was a good amount of deaths and many wounded. Hurizen-sama has been taking over for a bit." He said and wiped the mans face again. Minato sighed and looked down at his body. "Tsunade-hime said you'll be wounded and on bed rest for a while." He said, Minato slowed his breathing down controlling it slowly. "Are you ready to meet your daughter?" He asked, Minato looked at him heartbroken and nodded his head, his lip quivered. The clone walked in with the sleeping baby and the real Kakashi took her and dispelled the clone, he moved close to Minato who looked at his daughter and smiled. He gently pulled the baby from Kakashi's arm and laid her against his chest and shoulder gently and smiled before pressing a gentle kiss on her head.

"She's beautiful." Minato whispered and sighed.
"I'm sorry sensei." Kakashi said, Minato gave him a small smile and sighed pulling Naru back and held her.
"She's so tiny." He smiled and rubbed his thumb on her cheek across the whisker-like mark, Kakashi smiled gently at the scene. A tear fell from Minato's face and hit Naru's face making her whine and shift around. "Was she hurt?"

"Tsunade-hime had to put some stitches in her but she'll be okay." Kakashi said. "She's a eater too..." He said. "She eats three bottles at a time." Kakashi said, Minato chuckled.

"You know Kushina said she'd be an eater." He said. "She knew Naru before she was even fully formed." He said and chuckled before his lips quivered again, Kakashi motioned for the baby but Minato laid down again and held Naru close to his body and sniffled quietly, he nuzzled Naru's cheek gently and closed his eyes with his arm circled around her protecting her gently. Kakashi sighed and sat in the chair watching as the young father slowly fell asleep holding his baby close to him. Kakashi moved the baby back into her crib after Minato completely passed out again.

When the morning rolled around Kakashi woke up to Minato grunting in pain, he looked to see the man trying to get out of bed. "Whoa!" Kakashi said getting up slightly tripping over his blanket. "You need to stay in bed." He said rubbing his eyes. "You'll break your stitches and be here longer." He said with a slight scold.

"I want my daughter." Minato pouted.
"I'll get her. Just stay put." He ordered, Minato slunk a little and shifted back in his bed, Kakashi stood up and looked at Naru who was slowly waking up, he rubbed the girls face like he did everyday waking her up, she whined and opened her blue eyes wiggling at him, he picked her up and felt her diaper and sighed. "Hang on sensei." He said and grabbed her diaper bag, Kakashi quickly cleaned her up and put a new diaper on her before handing her off to the father.

"Knock, knock." Tsunade said quietly before seeing Minato awake and smile. "How are you?" She asked, Minato gave a slight smile and nod.
"Hello Tsunade-hime." He said.
"I need to check your stitches." She said, Kakashi pulled the baby from his arms, Minato let out a quiet protest with a pout. Tsunade pushed the man to the bed and pulled his shirt up and carefully pulled the bandages away and looked at the stitches. "Alright, your wounds are doing okay, but you'll be in here for a while." She said, he nodded, she fixed his bandages. "But I want you to have some tests." She said.
"For what?" Minato asked.
" … to test your …. stability." She said, Minato frowned.
"I'm not insane." He said sitting up.
"We're not saying that." Tsunade said.

"If you want me tested you must think it." He said hotly, Tsunade sighed.
"Sensei." Kakashi said, Minato looked at him with a pout. "We're not saying that, it's for safety, you went through something …. hard." He said. "We just want to be safe." He said, Minato looked away making both sigh. "Stop being stubborn." Kakashi sniped. "You're getting the test done." He said with a slight order. "It's for safety to make sure you don't have PTSD or that you'll snap at something, get over it." He said, Minato pouted a him. Tsunade smirked as the teen ordered Minato around. 'He really has taken the role on... smart move Kushina.' She thought and sighed.
"I'll come back later for it." She said and walked out.

Minato continued to frown at the boy until he finally huffed. "What?" Kakashi asked.
"You're lecturing me." He said, Kakashi gave a slight shrug motion. "Why?" He asked, Kakashi sighed. "Kushina-sama told me to be your companion." He said.
"No." Minato said.
"Too damn bad." Kakashi said, Minato grumbled.
"I'm ten years older than you! You can't -"
"Shut up." Kakashi said with a smirk. "I'm here to take care of you and Naru. Get over it." He said in a voice no wiggle room, Minato sighed. "I'm not taking her place." Kakashi said. "But I'm going to help you cope with it." He said gently. "It's to help." He said, Minato sighed but nodded his head. Kakashi set Naru in his arms again, he smiled relaxing a little and sighed quietly looking at her. She opened her blue eyes and looked up at him before making a gurgle noise and closed her eyes again.

'I'll never let you go.' He thought.
